After 20 years of living on the road in different places, Six Organs of Admittance had returned home to Humboldt County - a far country, to some, but still part of the world through which creatures of all kinds are moving through and contributing to. And some of them are human. Alone together - forming connection and exchange out of thought and expression - no different from the people on the other side of the Redwood Curtain. It was there, where Six Organs had long ago emerged, in the name of everything cycling, of circles that spiral concentrically and remain unbroken, the new music was conceived. In moments, it was as if the future had somehow wrapped around 360 degrees; elsewhere, the systems and patterns inside the writing and recording only became evident later - like a recognition that cumulus and nimbus clouds which passed through the sky the day before contained familiar shapes. Informing the songs accordingly as he went, Ben picked up on modes both musical and lyrical, threading backward through the time of Six Organs of Admittance. Almost marinating in it as a way of life. Working on the music and the vocals, then spending some time with them while stepping away from them. Walking the dog and coming back to them Time is Glass is made of that kind of time. Alone time. Recorded in the visceral environs of home, Time is Glass is sharply focused, even as misty impressionist mountains float through the background. Sweet and spiny, "The Mission" sings its purpose, before turning abruptly to the orchestral rumble of "Hephaestus": rural industrial psychedelia, ecosystem goth, synths arcing to lift a helplessly earthbound community into the firmament above. Winding almost imperceptibly back into song with "Slip Away", the time of the record becomes clear, moves fluidly, relaxed but aware, from event to event. People and things coming around again. The intuit, passing through wormholes and time, sounding deep then dissolving into the universal. The acoustic sounds ringing, layered suddenly, then clear again. Explosions of a new kind of distortion. Ecstatic melodies. Communing. The space of a day. The space of a season. Time is Glass, and Six Organs of Admittance is here and will be here, again.

Chasing dopamine in free fall through a burning world. Looks that make you want to go swimming, even though you know you're going to drown. Where is my value? Who do I want to be? And who do I definitely not want to be?

So distinctive that you will recognize them again and again from a big bunch of newcomer bands.



Because the songs go through the marrow and bone. Under the skin or into the heart. Maybe left in and right out, but it's good in between. Because you feel that you're no longer quite so alone with yourself and this shitty world.

CNTS sind zurück!

Nach einem Wirbelsturm von Tragödien, sowohl global als auch persönlich, sind Gitarrist Mike Crain (Dead Cross, Retox, Festival Of Dead Deer), Schlagzeuger Kevin Avery (Retox, Planet B) und Sänger Matt Cronk (Qui) mit dem neuen Gitarristen Koko Arabian und Bassist Rico Adair zurück, um ihr zweites Album zu veröffentlichen.

Nach der Veröffentlichung ihres Debüts "Cunts" (2019) konnten CNTS eine kurze Tour einschieben, bevor die Welt auf Eis gelegt wurde. In der Pause wurden Aufnahmen gemacht und Pläne für die Zukunft geschmiedet. Alle Pläne wurden jedoch über den Haufen geworfen, als Matt Cronk bei einem Autounfall verletzt wurde, was zu einem chirurgischen Missgeschick führte und ihn mit einem gelähmten Stimmband zurückließ, unfähig zu sprechen, geschweige denn zu singen. CNTS gaben schweren Herzens ihr Ende bekannt. Bis zum Winter 2023 widmeten sich die Mitglieder von CNTS anderen Projekten, als Cronks verletztes Stimmband entgegen den Prognosen seiner Ärzte zu heilen begann und seine Stimme innerhalb von zwei Monaten zurückkehrte. Im März dann waren CNTS zuversichtlich, dass sie es noch einmal versuchen könnten.

Gestärkt durch Cronks Genesung und die neue Besetzung, verbrachten CNTS den Rest des Jahres mit der Arbeit an ihrem neuen Album Thoughts & Prayers, dessen Titel von der Banalität unserer kollektiven Reaktion auf Krisen inspiriert ist. Inspiriert von ihren jüngsten Herausforderungen haben CNTS mehrere Jahre der Frustration und des Elends in ein gut artikuliertes und aggressives Statement kanalisiert. Songs wie "Smart Mouth" und "Thoughts And Prayers" erzählen von Cronks Schmerz und Wut während seiner verschiedenen Verletzungen und der anschließenden Genesung. "I Don't Work For You" und Eating You Alive" handeln von der Ungerechtigkeit des modernen Lebens. "For A Good Time (Don't Call Her)" ist eine Wutrede auf das uralte Thema des Streits mit dem romantischen Partner.

Dieses Album enthält ausführliche Anmerkungen von Gründungsmitglied Harry Howard und wird zusammen mit den 2024-Remaster-Editionen ihres Debütalbums 'Get Lost (Don't Lie!)' und ihres zweiten Albums 'I'm Never Gonna Die Again' veröffentlicht. Auf der Tracklist dieses Albums finden sich ihre mitreißende, treibende Neuinterpretation von Alice Coopers 'Luney Tune' aus dem Jahr 1972 sowie Coverversionen von 'Open Up and Bleed' von Iggy Pop & James Williamson, 'Some Velvet Morning' von Lee Hazlewood, das Leadsänger Rowland S. Howard vor allem mit Lydia Lynch coverte, und 'Hey! Little Child' von Alex Chilton.

Die Band bestand aus dem in Australien geborenen Rowland S. Howard, der als Nick Caves Mitstreiter bei der Birthday Party bekannt wurde, seinem Bass spielenden Bruder Harry Howard, dem Schlagzeuger Epic Soundtracks (früher bei Swell Maps und Jacobites) und der Keyboarderin Genevieve McGuckin. Sie schlossen sich 1987 zusammen, nachdem Soundtracks und die Howard-Brüder sich von Crime & the City Solution getrennt hatten, und gründeten zusammen mit McGuckin These Immortal Souls in London.

Napoleon is the 2023 spectacle-filled action epic film that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte's relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed. At the 96th Academy Awards, Napoleon received nominations for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Visual Effects. The film features an original score written and composed by 7-time Primetime Emmy nominatated British composer Martin Phipps. Phipps is best known for his work for the series Peaky Blinders, The Crown, and Black Mirror amongst others. Napoleon marked his first collaboration with Scott and was described by critics as “one of the most interestingly unique, albeit brief scores to debut in this genre for many years.” Napoleon is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on translucent red coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

CONTEXT During the height of the pandemic, Melbourne, Australia experienced the longest lockdown in the world, keeping residents inside their homes for a total of 262 days. In the midst of this were the five members who would form AWOL, driven to create and write music almost out of necessity. Once the ban was lifted, the band hit the recording studio and released their debut EP, AWOL, in 2021 through Last Ride Records. The timing was perfect as the Australia hardcore scene was experiencing serious growth, and AWOL soon found themselves playing shows with Speed, Iron Mind, No Apologies, and on a country wide run supporting No Pressure in early 2022. The band’s persistent drive and heavy playing style caught the attention of Flatspot Records, who will release AWOL’s debut full length, Tear 'Em To Bits this Spring. It’s not hard to listen to Tear 'Em To Bits and feel like you’re going to get ripped apart. The nine tracks are monstrous, filled with gruff vocals, groove-driven riffs, and meaty breakdowns. AWOL draws from bands like Madball and Biohazard, but also fit right along modern day acts like King Nine and God’s Hate. The lyrics are punishing, covering everything from deception and failed relationships to addressing drug addiction and police brutality. And while the record packs a lot of aggression, AWOL is purely here to revel in hardcore and the community it’s built for them. Roy Buchanan gilt bis heute als "der beste unbekannte Gitarrist der Welt". Die Rolling Stones wollten ihn als Nachfolger für Brian Jones, Eric Clapton als Gitarrist bei Derek & The Dominos - beides Angebote, die er ablehnte. Roy Buchanan war ein Meister auf der Fender Telecaster-Gitarre, sein Spiel beeinflusste Musiker wie z.B. Gary Moore, oder Jeff Beck maßgeblich. Roy Buchanan wuchs in Kalifornien auf, wo er auch Gitarre lernte. Als Teenager zog er nach Los Angeles und spielte mit Spencer Dryden (später der Drummer von Jefferson Airplane) in der Band Heartbeats. Danach tourte er mit Dale Hawkins und spielte mit Robbie Robertson (The Band), der Buchanan später als einen seiner Haupteinflüsse bezeichnete. In den 60er Jahren heiratete Roy Buchanan, zog nach Washington DC und arbeitete als Studiomusiker an mehr als 100 Produktionen, vornehmlich für Freddy Canon und Leiber/Stoller. Erst 1971 erschien sein erstes Solo-Album, was dazu führte, dass er und sein unnachahmliches Spiel auf der Fender Telecaster von Größen wie John Lennon, Eric Clapton oder den Rolling Stones als Geheimtipp gehandelt wurde. Die ab 1985 aufgenommenen Alben "When A Guitar Plays The Blues" (1985), "Dancing On The Edge" (1986) und "Hot Wires" (1987) gehören zu den Highlights seiner Karriere. Nur drei Jahre vor seinem tragischen Selbstmord wurde dieses Rockpalast-Konzert am 24. Februar 1985 in der Markthalle in Hamburg aufgenommen. Ein Auftritt, bei dem Roy Buchanans Genie als Gitarrist in einzigartiger Weise überzeugt - nicht zuletzt durch seine kongenialen Cover-Versionen u.a. von Jimi Hendrix oder Don Gibson. Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass Roy Buchanan seine Qualitäten vor allen Dingen bei seinen Auftritten ausleben konnte, von denen nur wenige aufgezeichnet wurden. Ein beeindruckendes Vermächtnis!

Recorded at Abbey Road Studios with legendary songwriter and producer Nile Rodgers, alongside the band's original producer Ian Broudie. Diese Sumpfmonster haben sich nie weit von ihren Wurzeln im Metal, Sludge und Punk entfernt, obwohl sie auf ihrem letzten Album nach dem Tod von Bassist Jonathan Athon darum kämpfen mussten, weiter zu bestehen.
The Way Forward ist das Ergebnis des gewonnenen Kampfes. Das Album stürmt mit neuer Besetzung (zu der auch die ehemaligen Mitstreiter Chris "Scary" Adams und Bassist Derek Lynch gehören) direkt nach vorne. Gemeinsam bahnt sich die Band einen Weg in die Zukunft, indem sie sich auf das verlassen, was Black Tusk am besten kann. Fievel Is Glauque ist eine von der Kritik gefeierte genreübergreifende Indie-Jazz-Rock-Band unter der Leitung von Zack Phillips (NYC) und Ma Clement (Brüssel), deren Sound von The Fader als "cosmic randomness" (kosmische Zufälligkeit) beschrieben wird. Die vier-köpfige Band Porij aus Manchester gehört mit ihrem Alternative-Dance-Sound zu den aufregendsten und spannendsten Newcomern aus UK und durfte bereits Größen wie Coldplay, Metronomy, Friendly Fires und Jungle supporten. Mattiu will release his new EP "Da Casa" on April 26, 2024, featuring lyrics in Romansh (the fourth official language of Switzerland), showcasing his expressive and characterful voice. He proves that he can deliver scenes and images with such overwhelming and captivating power that even without understanding the lyrics, listeners are guaranteed goosebumps. Translated from German, "da casa" means "at home" or "to home," describing a deep sense of gratitude and contentment that Mattiu associates with the feeling of being "at home." This emotion can be triggered by both a place and specific people. "Da Casa" lives up to Mattiu's debut. The Romansh artist once again uniquely showcases his mother tongue. With his extraordinary voice and knack for profound songwriting themes, he consistently manages to touch and inspire his listeners. Christina Kubisch’s Stromsänger finds this legendary sound artist at the top of her game mixing electromagnetic wave recordings with a score for six voices, creating powerful results. Stromsänger is based on a collaboration with the Norwegian vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices and on a special experience while researching and recording electromagnetic waves in the city of Trondheim.

“The general theme of the composition is the idea of sounds which travel. During a tram ride from the city up to the hills with an old tram I discovered not only stunning views of the surrounding landscape but as well a special soundscape. Wearing a custom made induction headphones, I could hear the normally hidden electromagnetic fields of the tram, which were so impressive and musical to me that I immediately decided to base my piece for Trondheim Voices on this discovery.

As a start, a series of pure vocal recordings were produced by Trondheim Voices while listening to a choice of electromagnetic tram sounds and following score instructions. This material was mixed in my Berlin studio and afterward was played back through a multi-loudspeaker setup into the room of the Elisabeth Church in Berlin and was instantaneously recorded. The emerged recording was played back and recorded again. The process of playing back the previous recording was repeated numerous times, generating numerous “re-recordings”, until the voices sounded aethereal and abstract. The last one of these recordings became the very beginning of the Stromsänger piece.

Part A is based on the electromagnetic sounds of the waiting tram and previously recorded voices. The singers come on stage and start to sing together with their recorded part which slowly fades out while the live singing takes over: a kind of choral for electrical tram waves and voices.

Part B is based on the actual tram ride with strong and intense electromagnetic sounds. The single recordings were treated electronically and were divided into six channels. Each singer has chosen one of these files and improvises with the magnetic sounds as a soloist or in duos or trios.

Part C is based on the itinerary of the tram ride to Lian, where a pilgrim's path starts. The names of the single stops, which have very beautiful and poetic names, are performed together as a kind of "sound poetry". The singers walk around on stage and/or can choose special positions for their performance. The recording of the word "Lian", the final stop, was recorded beforehand and played back and re-recorded several times in the open Norwegian landscape near the final tram stop. The voices slowly disappear and fade out.”

Hunting for rhythm, as if our lives depended on it, as if, without rhythm, we’d starve to death. Can body and soul live without rhythm? Seizing its different forms, dissecting it, ingesting it, digesting it, could very well be akin to the Rhythm Hunters’ creative process. What are the rhythmic principles that lead us to develop its polyphonic, groovy and trance-like aspects (Africa), or mathematically complex ones (India), or irregular pulsations that transcend asperities (Balkans), among others? To go on a rhythm hunt, why not explore all these places, appreciate the infinite diversity of rhythms and, back home, try to understand and experiment with enriching your own rhythmic vocabulary with the basic principles underlying each musical tradition. What can these principles contribute if you transcend borders and begin to adapt your musical knowledge and experience to the new ramifications of the rhythm you’ve just discovered? The music of The Rhythm Hunters is one of the answers.

A few years ago, the musicians in this band and I began a specific practice on unusual mixes of rhythmic ideas, inspired by traditions from various parts of the world, with the intention of integrating them until they became a personal vocabulary and means of expression. The result is on this album.

Wenn du nach Jena willst, dann musst du erst einmal durch diese einschüchternde, massive Mauer von elfgeschossigen Plattenbauten in Jena-Lobeda. Und SNOW TRAIL aus eben jener Stadt liefern mit "Abandoned Capsule" den perfekten Soundtrack fürs nächtliche Schlafwandeln durch diese oder andere Betonwüsten. Auf ihrem Debütalbum für It's Eleven Records treibt der Rhythmus mit stoischer Gelassenheit die Schatten voran, während die verhallte Gitarre und der pulsierende Bass in Melodiebögen durch die Dunkelheit mäandern. Der Gesang transportiert eine unterschwellige Aggression, die sich in gelegentlichen Ausbrüchen manifestiert, doch eine spröde, fließende Anmut behält insgesamt die Oberhand. Das Trio agiert minimalistisch und konzentriert die Songs auf ihre Essenz. Behutsam eingesetzte Synths (z.B. bei "Fragments Repeated" oder "Constructions") oder überraschend Alt-Saxophon bei "Murky Acrylic Windows" verstärken die düstere Sogwirkung. Die Songs für "Abandoned Capsule" entstanden größtenteils in den Pandemie-geprägten Jahren 2021/22. Die Perspektivlosigkeit dieser Zeit wirkt als Hintergrundstrahlung auch in den Texten noch nach. Dennoch haben SNOW TRAIL nun mit ihrem Album und einer stärkeren Einbindung von elektronischen Klängen einen neuen Weg beschritten, der ihren ursprünglichen Sound trotzdem nicht verleugnet.

Austin, Texas quartet Gentlemen Rogues celebrate aggressive guitar pop anthems _ bearing the influences of The Replacements, Superdrag, Jawbreaker, and similar visionaries _ and have been gaining momentum and increased attention. Since their debut in 2011, the band _ Danny Dunlap (guitar/vocals), Josh Power (drums), John Christoffel (guitar), and Dave Hawkins (bass, vocals) _ have honed their hooks over numerous singles, EPs, and the 2022 full-length collection, A History of Fatalism. Gentlemen Rogues have supported diverse acts like the Lemonheads, Smoking Popes, the Dandy Warhols, Mrs Magician, and Riverboat Gamblers on stages across the U.S. and the UK. In 2021 Gentlemen Rogues opened for both indie-punk icons Superchunk and Bob Mould, who personally selected the band to provide sole support on the Texas leg of his Distortion and Blue Hearts tour. Keep It Simple!

That's what Tony Allen told me, whether on stage, in the recording studio or when we were working together on the album "The Source"(Blue Note 2017) in my studio. Obviously, if he repeated it at will, it's because it's so difficult, to express the essential, not to scatter, over-play, over-arrange. So natural for him, so constraining for others! For years he pushed us, the members of his group to develop our projects. I had something in mind, necessarily with him, unfortunately his unexpected demise decided otherwise.
It took a moment to accept his departure, to accept being a voice, to find a new path. The desire to continue the work started together, that of mixing styles, sounds to appropriate them and create new, authentic. The desire also to meet new people, another energy.
After composing music for this project, I asked my friend Ben Rubin, musician and producer to help me record it. I found in NYC what I was looking for, a sense of urgency, that of doing, generous and committed musicians. I knew Jason Lindner, a musician that I have been following for a long time and he was the first person I thought of for pianos and synthesizers. He has this ability to find new and powerful sounds, with a direct and unadorned playing. For the drums, I didn't especially thought about a musician whose playing could come close or far to Tony's. Ben suggested Josh Dion to me, I've been following him since his "Paris Monster" project, I love his ability to make his drums sound like a new instrument by playing the bass synth with his right hand, that forces him to keep it simple! He also plays 2 tracks in drum/synth mode on the album.
I'm also happy that he agreed to sing a song on this album.
So we recorded at the Figure8 recording studio in Brooklyn, Eli Crews providing the sound recording, we decided with Ben to create a powerful and assumed sound from the take. Many biases on the tones, whether on the drums and the keyboards. Back in my studio in Paris, I continued to search, to dig while recording additional saxophones, percussions and keyboards.

Keep it simple?
Difficult but I try to remain so on all the phases of evolution of this project, from writing to production, in the improvisation parts. Where I feel it the most is in the immediate joy of playing with Jason and Josh, of tweaking a few sounds in my studio to create the unexpected, surprise in the structures, authenticity. Simple as the desire to go towards something essential, to seek oneself, to find oneself, to doubt but also to invent oneself.

"All our dreamers lose to the light" - from "Angels Go Home" When the pandemic began, and the world shut down, so did the process of creating for Iron & Wine's Sam Beam. In its place was a domesticity that the singer hadn't felt in a long time, and although it was filled with many rewards, making music was not one of them. Reflecting on that time, Beam notes: "I feel blessed and grateful that I and most of my friends and family made it through the pandemic relatively unscathed compared to so many others, but it completely paralyzed the songwriter in me. The last thing I wanted to write about was COVID, and yet every moment I sat with my pen, it lingered around the edges and wouldn't leave. This lasted for over two years." The journey back began with a recording session in Memphis to record a handful of Lori McKenna tracks for the EP Lori with friend and producer Matt Ross-Spang. The cathartic experience reconnected Beam with his love for making music, and soon enough the paralysis had passed, and he was finishing lyrics and booking studio time for what would become Light Verse. Light Verse was recorded with engineer and mixer Dave Way at his studio Waystation high up in Laurel Canyon (with an additional session at Silent Zoo Studio with a 24-piece orchestra), with a host of talented musicians joining Beam: Tyler Chester, Sebastian Steinberg, David Garza, Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane, and Paul Cartwright. And, Fiona Apple joined Beam on vocals for the duet "All In Good Time." Beam lyrically once again takes focus on a series of both fictional and personal insights, filled with desperate characters and wide-eyed optimists, offering promise and a dose of heartache, tears and laughter, life and love. Taking stock in the album's title, he jokes, "Light verse is a form of poetry about playful themes that often uses nonsense and wordplay, and it's my first official Iron & Wine comedy album!_. Just kidding_." While true this may be Iron & Wine's most playful record, Beam says the title mostly reflects the way the songs were born with joy after the heaviness and anxiety of the pandemic. Where recent records like Beast Epic or Weed Garden gave air to the disquiet of middle-aged frailty and brokenness, these songs trade that for the focus acceptance can bring. Moment by moment, they delight in being pointed or silly (or both) and attempt beauty over prettiness. Light Verse arrives April 26th, and it's Iron & Wine's seventh full-length overall and fifth for Sub Pop Records. Fashioned as an album that should be taken as a whole, it sounds lovingly handmade and self-assured as a secret handshake. Track by track, its equal parts elegy, kaleidoscope, truth, and dare.
