Hank Mobley was inspired by Birth of the Cool on his 1966 album A Slice of the Topfeaturing Duke Pearson’s arrangements for an octet that added euphonium and tuba to a group with James Spaulding on alto sax, Lee Morgan on trumpet, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Bad Astronaut zeichnete sich durch experimentellere Klänge und eine aufwendige Produktion aus, und stand in vielerlei Hinsicht im Gegensatz zum Punk. Kein Handynetz, Telefonkabel über Land, eine Straße durch den Wald, auf der sich kaum zwei Fahrzeuge begegnen können. Ruhe, Refl exion und das schnelle Ziehen der Wolken beeinfl ussten den Dinkelsbühler Gitarristen bei seinem neuen Album. In einem raumeinnehmenden Kompositionsprozess entstanden Solo- und Trio-Stücke, die auf der klassischen Nylon-String Gitarre interpretiert werden. Im Zusammenspiel mit Sieverts und Jütte entsteht ein spannendes, voller Spielfreude steckendes Programm.

Nur selten erscheinen Platten wie "ada" (Release: 06.12.2024), die scheinbar endlose Möglichkeiten zum Wegträumen bieten - weil so viel Geschichte in ihnen steckt: "Das neue Album ist so etwas wie die Essenz aus über 30 Jahren Electric Orange", erklärt Dirk Jan Müller, der das langlebige Projekt schon 1992 in Aachen gestartet und später zu einer großartigen Band ausgebaut hat. Electric Orange sind eindeutig im Krautrock der Siebzigerjahre verwurzelt (und nutzen teilweise auch das Equipment dieser Ära), so erinnern viele Tracks an die altbekannten Legenden des Genres: Can, Tangerine Dream, Amon Düül - eine Mischung aus all dem, was die Bandmitglieder lieben. In dieser Welt ist jeder Groove noch besser, wenn man ihn minutenlang durchzieht. Die Musik von Electric Orange entwickelt sich durchgehend weiter, sphärische Klänge kommen dazu und gehen wieder... oder werden von experimentellen Wah-Wah-Gitarren abgelöst. Weltall-Soundeffekte? Film-Samples? Yes! Electric Orange legen eine weitläufige Welt offen und führen den/die Hörer*in dann hindurch; ihre Musik ist treibend und verträumt zugleich.

Als ein Zusammensetzung aus zwölf musikalischen Kurzgeschichten, befasst sich „Pairing Mode“ mit dem zentralen Thema „Aloneness“ – Das zelebrierte Alleinesein. Was man auf dem Erstling noch mit (be-)rauschend geringer Klangtreue über den Äther jagte, wird auf "Wieherd" druckvoller denn je dargeboten. Unweigerlich fragt man sich einmal mehr, was zur Hölle nur die da unten in Stuttgart dem Wasser beimischen... Es ist für mich jedes Mal schwer beeindruckend, wenn Musik auch ohne üppige Instrumentierung intrinsische Größe hat. ZweiLaster spielen minimalistischen (Pop- & Post-)Punk bar jeder Effekthascherei, nähern sich hie und da gar dem No Wave. Lieder wie der Auftakt "Allein" oder das gellende "Everywhere" sind eingängig, ohne stumpf zu werden, "Berge", "Angerufen" und "Graureiher" schürfen tief, ohne sich großem Gestus bedienen zu müssen. Ehe man sich allzu wohlig wähnt, wechselt sowieso schon das Tempo und ZweiLaster ver- und zerfällt in dissonant charmantes Chaos. "Wieherd" wirkt nie gekünstelt, nie schablonenhaft, immer wie eine Momentaufnahme. Mut braucht es, so ein schonungslos ungeschöntes Abbild in die Welt zu entlassen. Oder vielleicht muss es dann einfach nur gut sein und das hier, das ist gut. Sind Taylor Swift Fans Swifties, dann bin ich Lasti." - Drangsal

'Kaleidoscope' erschien ursprünglich 1999 und stellte Kelis' einzigartigen Stil vor, der R&B, Funk und die futuristische Produktion von The Neptunes vermischte. How did Dexter make a TV audience sympathize with a serial killer? No question, it took an ingenious premise, great writing, great direction…and a stellar ensemble cast headed by lead actor Michael C. Hall. But long-time viewers of the show know there was another “character” that played a huge role in the series: the soundtrack. From Rolfe Kent’s unforgettable title theme to the well-chosen Latin-tinged tunes that fit the Miami setting to composer Daniel Licht’s brilliant themes, the score of Dexter commented on the action even as it amplified its emotional power. Special mention must be made of the late Licht’s work, which employed Latin and electronic elements to portray Dexter’s warm and cold sides; among the favorites here are “Astor’s Birthday Party” and the haunting “Blood Theme” that played over the credits in every episode. In 2007, the Milan label put out a CD and a truncated single-LP soundtrack album containing music from the first season; now, for the first time, we at Real Gone Music are offering all of the music that appeared on the CD in an expanded double-LP edition, pressed on blood with white swirl vinyl and housed inside an appropriately gory gatefold. In C and Rainbow in Curved Air get all the ink (inc?), but its own somewhat subtle way, 1980’s Shri Camel, the last of the three brilliant albums Terry Riley recorded for CBS, is every bit as groundbreaking as its hallowed predecessors. Not content to rest on his laurels as a minimalist master, Riley studied with Hindustani classical singer Pandit Pran Nath during the ‘70s; by blending that Eastern influence with his own experiments in just intonation (where tuning is dictated by equal mathematical intervals rather than the “tempered” tuning familiar to Western music), Riley made an album whose shimmering textures (played through a specially modified Yamaha organ) seem to change with one’s own breath or thought, like the reflection of rippling water on rock. And while Shri Camel is far more demanding and ultimately rewarding than any “New Age” recording, one definitely gets the sense that its ever-evolving, ecstatically hypnotic rhythmic and harmonic patterns are massaging the brain’s neural circuitry, leaving one refreshed, relaxed, and, yes, maybe even a little smarter than before listening. First LP reissue and long overdue!

A fairly short-lived yet influential in San Jose. They released two demos, one which was recorded by Bart Thurber, and they are both featured on this album. Band members later moved to Operator Generator, Burn Thee Insects, High On Fire and Bliss The Triple Six.

Motion I is the debut album from Out Of/Into, the collective formerly known as The Blue Note Quintet, featuring pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer. The Cat is jazz organist Jimmy Smith's 1964 album, a notable release that reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Featuring Smith on the Hammond B-3, this set has some tasteful big band arrangements by Lalo Schifrin and some other-worldly playing by the great organist on a variety of other blues-oriented material.
