John Edwards’ early releases, mainly at Aware Records under the tutelage of Floyd Smith, thrilled soul lovers with his consummate vocals and impressed the multi-million selling Spinners enough to hire him to replace their revered vocalist Philippe Wynne.
Edwards’ first Aware hits, such as ‘Stop This Merry-Go-Round’ and ‘Careful Man’, led to his eponymous debut LP. As the label’s major male artist, the company followed up by recording a second album and were probably anticipating a further hit. But Aware collapsed thanks to the label owner’s criminal activities, putting paid to that proposed disc.
When the master tapes were uncovered in the ’90s, the tracks were issued on the 1996 Kent CD ‘Careful Man’ and handful of singles were issued to great acclaim.
At last, we have collected the tracks on vinyl and the beauty of ‘Tin Man’, ‘How Can I Go On Without You’ and ‘Cold Hearted Woman’ can be enjoyed as they were originally intended. Modern soul fans will be able to sleep easily again.

Anfang der 1970er Jahre legte die Band aus Hilden und Düsseldorf ihren Namen Q 66 ab und trat seitdem als Cobraa auf. Ein Demo-Tape der Band fand Gefallen bei den Talentscouts der Kölner Plattenfirma EMI Electrola, die ihr daraufhin einen Plattenvertrag anbot. Bereits 1973 erschien die Single "Ride a Pony" und 1974 wurde das Album "Cobraa" veröffentlicht. Die LP erhielt in den bekannten Musikzeitschriften sehr gute Kritiken und sogar das Teenager-Blatt BRAVO fand lobende Worte. Vor allem die mehrstimmigen Vocals, die eingängigen Melodien und die variantenreichen Arrangements - nicht nur Schlagzeug, Bass und Gitarren, sondern auch Querflöte, Mundharmonika und Streicher - gefielen den Kritikern. Die Bandmitglieder zeigten sich jedoch enttäuscht über die Zusammenarbeit mit ihrer Plattenfirma und schrieben dem Boss der EMI einen Brief, in dem sie sich über die mangelnde Unterstützung und die lustlose Kooperation beschwerten. Nach einem klärenden Gespräch in der Chefetage einigte man sich darauf, mit "Take A Look At Love" eine weitere Single zu veröffentlichen. Weitere Zugeständnisse wollte die Plattenfirma jedoch nicht machen, sodass es bei nur einer LP-Veröffentlichung blieb. Über 50 Jahre später hat dieses Cobraa-Album unter den Progressive-Rock- und Krautrock-Fans Kultstatus. Nun erscheint es als Rerelease auf Vinyl sowie erstmals auf CD und digital, inklusive der Single "Ride A Pony" / "The End Of A Day" aus dem Jahr 1973.

2007 begann der Sacred Bones Gründer Caleb Braaten damit, rare und seltene Post-Punk, Deathrock und Dark Punk Tracks für eine Compilation auszugraben. Sieben Jahre später erschienen diese Tracks erstmals auf Vinyl und CD. Auf ,Killed By Deathrock Vol. 1" kommen Bands aus der ganzen Welt zusammen, von den bekannteren Schotten von TWISTED NERVE bis zu den nicht über Google auffindbaren MOVE aus Italien. Dazwischen gesellt sich eine bunte Palette von amerikanischen und europäischen Bands. Was alle diese Songs neben ihrer düster-eisigen Atmosphäre gemein haben, ist ihr Status als essentielle Puzzlestücke einer Deathrock Geschichte!

Das war gar nicht so einfach für uns, denn unser Schulenglisch aus DDR-Zeiten reicht gerade mal für ein Gespräch auf dem Schulhof. Red Dwarf Star emerges as a striking new chapter for Coley Taylor of famous US/CH based MASERATI, a new project that captures a deeply personal arc that spans continents, relationships, and creative reinvention. Working largely alone, Taylor embraced a deliberately stripped-down approach, navigating unfamiliar technology with joyously unpolished determination. Much of the material was recorded in a modest, direct manner that prioritizes feeling over finesse. This DIY ethos is balanced by key collaborations that elevate the record's sonic depth. Beginning life as a trio in London, 2003, the original line-up consisted of Allison Brice (vocals, flute), Richard Olson (acoustic guitar) and Ben Phillipson (guitar, mandolin) before expanding the following year to include the rhythm section of Mark Nicholas (bass) and Karl Sabino (drums, autoharp) and finally Alison Cotton (viola).
This being the mid zeros, the independent music scene in the UK was reluctant to embrace a sun-dazed folk band but this, their sole album, has gradually feathered a bed of affection amongst international folk fans. Twenty years on, the album is now rightfully seen as a trailblazer for the myriad alternative/psych folk bands that emerged in its wake.
Andy Childs who signed the band originally takes up the story. “I first heard their music on a cover mounted CD with the much missed Comes With A Smile magazine and as far as I could tell no-one was making music like this anymore, certainly not with such panache and confidence. To my jaded ears it all sounded so uninhibited - old weird folk songs, Americana, original psych-folk, minimalist drones. Great melodies and all six of them could sing! A joyous, unfettered sound that could in one moment conjure up flashes of The Byrds and then effortlessly the spirit of Velvet Underground would drift through. They even covered a Spacemen 3 song. I loved the fact that they had the aplomb to tackle traditional folk songs like Lady Margaret and Flowers In The Forest and not be afraid to stamp their own identity on them.
Signing them to the Hannibal label was straightforward. If anything the album somehow sounds fresh and undated, even better than it did in the day when perhaps eclecticism was out of synch with the times; its subtleties have become more apparent.”

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated debut album of Poland’s TORPOR, Ɖungeon Ɖescent, on CD and vinyl LP formats. TORPOR were formed in Warsaw by three school friends and music fans under the huge influence of Bathory. DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present JORDSJØ’s highly anticipated new album, Pestkrønikene, on CD and vinyl LP formats. JORDSJØ released their first tape in 2015. With the fourth tape, 2017’s Jord, the band got a wider audience outside their native Norway and subsequently released full-lengths on such labels as Karisma, Pancromatic, and Apollon. The band works as a duo in the studio, but for the last eight years, they have played live as a quintet. JORDSJØ are led by multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung, who has been a part of Oslo’s psychedelic, progressive, and heavy rock undergrounds for many years, and has played in Black Magic, Tusmørke, The Chronicles of Father Robin, Wobbler, Zenon, and labelmates FLIGHT to mention but a few. He’s joined by longtime companion and childhood friend Kristian Frøland, who plays drums and percussion, and also produced and mixed Pestkrønikene. Pestkrønikene is a part of JORDSJØ’s 10-year anniversary, and their ninth release overall. The record started out as a compilation of studio outtakes from 2020-2025, but then took on a form of its own, with the songs linked together thematically. Lyrically, those themes reflect war, upheaval, the fall of kings and the rise of a new dawn, and cults and sects. Sonically, Pestkrønikene encapsulates the JORDSJØ experience as well as extends beyond it. Mythical and magickal, the album honors the band’s background in hard rock and heavy metal, and combines this with their own analog and organic blend of progressive / psychedelic folk rock.

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the long-awaited debut album of Italy’s INTO DARKNESS, Route to the Other Side, on CD and vinyl LP formats. Italy's INTODARKNESS have been a work in progress since their formation in 2011. Led by vocalist / guitarist Doomed Warrior from the very beginning, the band released a handful of demos, a couple splits, and a couple EPs during their first decade of existence. While all short-lengths, they certainly did not lack in quality. As time (and lineups) went on, INTO DARKNESS’ primary influences – equally early Asphyx and Soulburn, Pentacle, Sinister, Gorefest, Dead Head, Phlebotomized, Acrostichon, and Thanatos among others – came more sharply into focus, aligning reverently within old-school Dutch death metal in style but with a unique lyrical focus: divulgative astronomy. Not astrology, not sci-fi, no Lovecraft – only and specifically divulgative astronomy, maybe poetically but definitely realistically. Now, at long last, INTO DARKNESS are prepared to unleash their debut album. Tellingly titled Route to the Outer Side, the Italians’ first full-length is a concept record about the outer solar system, which still considers Pluto as a planet and also includes Halley’s Comet.

Futurismo are thrilled to present Give Thanks, the long out of press 1984 hardcore classic by Articles Of Faith. Produced by Bob Mould, and newly remastered directly from the original tapes, this powerhouse of a record is now coming on both LP and CD after being unavailable for decades. Originally released in 1984, the debut LP Give Thanks by Chicago hardcore legends Articles Of Faith, is proof a hardcore record can be both political and poetic. Fuelled by rage, introspection and a musical progression that could be seen as a blueprint for what would later become known as post-hardcore, this album ticks every box you want from a record of the era: intense, emotive, scathing, unpredictable, all topped off by the masterful production of Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü/Sugar). Give Thanks is perhaps overlooked in many top ten’s of the genre, but leaving the bands debut LP off that list would be a mistake. A demonstration in raw emotion and political angst, Give Thanks harnesses a sound that could have only happened during the Reagan era. Hardcore was of course a musical explosion built upon aggression and discontent, yet Give Thanks forcefully fuses this concept of raw power with a multitude of musical influences at a time when some of their contemporaries perhaps seemed to tread water. Whilst the principles and sonics harnessed on AOF’s debut album may have had more in common with the sounds coming out of Washington D.C., this record has an authentic Chicago savvy running through it, effortlessly projecting a street level tone whilst simultaneously aiming to show the possibilities of what a hardcore record could be. In retrospect, AOF’s debut was a hardcore album ahead of it’s time, perhaps the reason it’s fervent themes and artistry still feel so fresh and relevant. Whether that’s due to Vic Bondi’s gravelly tones geared to critique the societal regime at play, or the considered guitar work aimed to both blast and texturize, or the intense drums rhythms inspired by jazz and dub, there is a depth to the final album that feels like a band testing their parameters, one listen to ‘Every Man For Himself’ and you know you are listening to something special. Familiarity and originality rarely crossover, but in this case they coexist to leave us with a forward thinking punk record that is more interested in shouting it’s emotions from the street, than it is screaming into a vacuum.

A true American hardcore record, and a must for fans of Minor Threat, Dead Kennedy’s, Bad Brains and Fugazi.

Jahrestags seiner Veröffentlichung bringt Secretly Canadian Yoko Onos bahnbrechendes Album ,Season of Glass" aus dem Jahr 1981 in einer erweiterten CD-Version sowie erstmals seit mehr als 45 Jahren wieder auf Vinyl heraus, ergänzt durch ein erweitertes und überarbeitetes Coverdesign. ,Season of Glass", das zu den Top 200 Alben der 1980er Jahre von Pitchfork zählt, erschien im Juni 1981, nur sieben Monate nach dem sinnlosen Mord an Onos Ehemann und kreativem Partner John Lennon. Voller Songs über Liebe, Verlust, Wut und Angst spiegelte das Album Onos Erfahrungen in aller Deutlichkeit wider und schuf so fast ein Pendant zu den ,Primal Scream"-Alben der Plastic Ono Band von Ono und Lennon aus dem Jahr 1970. ,Season of Glass war eigentlich einfach nur ich selbst, denke ich", sagte Ono 1982 gegenüber Newsweek. ,Irgendwie war es in gewisser Weise wie ein Urschrei; weißt du, etwas ist in meinem Leben passiert, und ich musste es einfach sagen. Und ich glaube, es war für mich mehr als alles andere therapeutisch. Und ich war ziemlich ehrlich, nehme ich an." Onos fünftes Studioalbum, ,Season of Glass", war auch das bis dahin kommerziell erfolgreichste der Künstlerin und schaffte es in die Top 50 der Billboard-Albumcharts, war jedoch nicht ohne Kontroversen. Das Cover des Albums zeigte ein Foto von Lennons blutgetränkter Brille, so wie sie Ono vom Roosevelt Hospital nach seiner Ermordung zurückgegeben worden war. Obwohl David Geffen, der Chef von Geffen Records, der im November 1980 Onos und Lennons ,Double Fantasy" veröffentlicht hatte und auch die Originalversion von ,Season of Glass" herausbrachte, Ono eindringlich bat, das Cover zu ändern, blieb Ono standhaft. ,Ich werde das Cover nicht ändern", erinnerte sich Ono, Geffen gesagt zu haben. ,Das ist es, was John jetzt ist." Begleitet von derselben Band, die bereits auf ,Double Fantasy" gespielt hatte, reiht sich der Sound von ,Season of Glass" nahtlos an dieses Album an, das zu dieser Zeit bereits als künstlerischer Triumph für Ono galt, die junge Künstler wie die B-52s und Sonic Youth inspirierte. In den Jahren seit seiner Veröffentlichung hat das Album ,Season of Glass" aufgrund der ehrlichen, liebevollen und manchmal erschütternden Natur seiner Songs nur noch an Bedeutung gewonnen. Heute wird es allgemein als kraftvolles künstlerisches Statement über Trauer und Verlust gewürdigt und gilt als Meilenstein sowie als eines von Onos besten Werken - ein vollendetes künstlerisches Statement.

Almost 400 multi-track tape reels, totalling 150 hours of music, were recorded during the Waterboys' famous Fisherman's Blues sessions of 1986-88. Among these were 80 tapes with no song titles, just rough notes like "jam" or "unknown." In 2024 band leader Mike Scott went through most of these, listening to them for the first time since they were recorded, and discovering in the process dozens of tracks the band had forgotten about; lost recordings, some improvised on the spot, others painstakingly worked on, that in many cases equal the quality of those on the original classic 1988 album.

Scott has compiled these into a triple CD and vinyl collection titled THE LOST FISHERMAN'S BLUES RECORDINGS. This fascinating release will gain much attention and will come with a book containing 15,000 words of Scott's own sleeve notes plus lyrics and unseen photos.
