Die seltenste Chicagoer Sweet-Soul-LP, zum ersten Mal seit einem halben Jahrhundert wieder im Druck. Arrow Browns unvergleichliches Album "The Magic of The Majestic Arrows" entstand im Keller seines Harems/Hauptquartiers in Bronzeville und war das Ergebnis jahrelanger Arbeit am Rande von Chicagos berühmter Record Row. Die auf seinem eigenen Bandit-Imprint erschienene LP ist eine mit Streichern besetzte Fantasie, die sich zwischen dem Doo-Wop der 50er Jahre und dem Studioexzess der 1970er bewegt. Unterstützt von den Chosen Few und den Scott Brothers, arrangiert von Benjamin Wright, gesungen von Browns 17-jähriger Tochter Tridia und dem marokkanischen Falsettisten Larry Brown und gezeichnet von Eugene Phillips von The Wind, ist das Album ein Außenseiter-D.I.Y.-Soul-Genie, das darauf wartet, dass die Reibung einer Phononadel seine unsterbliche Magie offenbart.

Andy Donnelly has been actively releasing a broad swathe of electronic music since the late 00s, but it's his sharpened focus on jungle and drum & bass over the past 10 years that has cemented his reputation. As well as working closely with fellow scene leaders like Tim Reaper, the Australian artist has hit a flow state with his productions where the quality and quantity seems limitless. Since Mindgames started as a Samurai Music sub-label, Kloke has been a core part of the imprint's identity. Having already dropped the Mindgame 8 EP earlier this year, Donnelly is back with a full-length salvo of advanced jungle heavy on the technicalities and even heavier on the vibes.

Lucidity makes its mark from the very first blast of breakbeat science that opens up the title track. From that point on Donnelly works at full tilt, edging gritty textures into his sampling and capturing classic jungle's melancholic mystery through an expansive palette of re-pitched hooks. This is carefully crafted soundsystem music in thrall to the tradition of jungle, but at no point does it sound tired or throwback. One key element is the dynamic intensity of Donnelly's arrangements, shifting gears with devastating poise whether darting through the starry-eyed arps and deft breaks of 'Mobius Strip' or chopping around the jagged angles and noirish licks of 'Goose Cuts'.

Donnelly folds many moods into his jungle tapestries. 'Paradiso' conjures a smoky, haunting atmosphere while 'Nightfall' leads on techy darkside stabs before unfurling shadowy jazz licks that flicker like ghosts through the dense forest of drums. At all times, the commitment to mind-bending configurations of compound breaks drives the album forwards. No two beats roll the same as Donnelly indulges his precise and profound instinct for next-level edits and heavyweight production.

Gritty, raw and true to the roots of the culture, Kloke stands tall on Lucidity. It's the kind of detailed, deep and deadly album that shows jungle at its absolute best — a sound that still feels like the future in the right hands.

While most Japanese bands in the early ’70s were chasing British rock trends, Hiroshi Segawa took a bold, singular path—crafting country rock and Southern rock, sung entirely in Japanese. His masterpiece Pierrot stands as a rare and beautiful outlier, brought to life by a dream team of legendary musicians from Japan’s New Rock scene: Hideki Ishima and Jun Kozuki (Flower Travellin’ Band), Tetsu Yamauchi (Samurai), Yuushin Harada, and Katsuo Ohno (PYG).

Diese sehr bedeutsamen Veröffentlichungen wurden bereits 2007 und 2015 von Kyrck Productions unter dem Titel "Stigma Diabolicum" zusammengestellt und physisch veröffentlicht. Mit den aktuellen Neuauflagen werden diese historischen Aufnahmen jedoch endlich auf eine Weise in Szene gesetzt, die sie verdienen. Die Seiten der hochwertigen 36-seitigen Artbook-CD-Edition enthalten persönliche Erinnerungen und Notizen der ursprünglichen Bandmitglieder, die Geschichten erzählen und faszinierende Einblicke in die Zeit der Wiedergeburt des Black Metal bieten. Sie enthalten außerdem eine Sammlung seltener Fotos, die unverfälschte Momente hinter den Kulissen einfangen und ihren intensiven, eigenwilligen Kreationen eine zusätzliche Ebene verleihen. Die Künstler offenbaren, was sie von anderen abhob und warum ihr Vermächtnis so heraussticht. Die neue Vinyl-Edition präsentiert "Stigma Diabolicum" erstmals auf einer Doppel-LP mit allen 15 Titeln – vier mehr als auf den vorherigen Vinyl-Editionen. In Erinnerung an die aufregenden vergangenen Zeiten erscheint "Stigma Diabolicum" außerdem erstmals im MC-Format.

Auf "Cryptic Aura" rotiert der fette Wahnsinn! AZURE EMOTE laden mit ihrem vierten Album zu einer "Tour de Force" durch die äußeren stellaren Gefilde des Death Metal ein, wo die musikalischen Möglichkeiten gegen die Unendlichkeit konvergieren und sich in alle Richtungen und Dimensionen auszudehnen scheinen, bis die Gravitation ihres ultraschweren Sounds alles in den Schlund eines zermalmenden Ereignishorizonts zieht. Jeder Track auf "Cryptic Aura" ist in seiner eigenen abstrakten Verrücktheit einzigartig, aber sie sind dennoch allesamt durch eine Verschmelzung von verstörenden Atmosphären, rastloser Unruhe und trotziger Kreativität miteinander verbunden. AZURE EMOTE wurden im Jahr 2003 von Sänger und Keyboarder Mike Hrubovcak mit Unterstützung seines langjährigen Freundes, den Gitarristen Ryan Moll (TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania gegründet. Sein Ziel war die Erschaffung eines experimentell-musikalischen Ventils, um persönliche Negativität auszudrücken. Alle willkürlichen Einschränkungen wie etwa Genregrenzen, die oft die extreme Metal-Szene prägen, lehnte Hrubovcak dagegen entschieden ab. Dieses Ziel wurde bereits mit dem Debüt "Chronicles of an Aging Mammal" (2007) erreicht. Obwohl das Album schnell Kultstatus erlangte, mussten AZURE EMOTE eine Pause einlegen, da sich Hrubovcak auf ausgiebige Tourneen mit seinen anderen Bands konzentrierte – insbesondere MONSTROSITY und VILE. Im Sommer 2011 wurden AZURE EMOTE gemeinsam mit dem FEAR FACTORY- und MALIGNANCY-Schlagzeuger Mike Heller wiederbelebt, was schließlich zur Veröffentlichung des zweiten Langspielers "The Gravity of Impermanence" im Jahr 2013 führte. Dabei bleibt der brutale Kern des Genres unangetastet. AZURE EMOTE laden zu einem atemberaubenden Ritt in die Unendlichkeit des Death Metal ein.

Mit ihrem elften regulären Studioalbum "Every Rock, Every Half-Truth under Reason" feiern die experimentellen Konzeptkünstler KAYO DOT das 20-jährige Jubiläum von "Choirs of the Eye" mit einer Wiedervereinigung der Originalbesetzung. Dies ist als kühnes Statement des Komponisten und Bandkopfs Toby Driver zu verstehen. Dieser markiert damit sowohl eine Rückkehr, da er jene kompositorischen Praktiken wieder aufgreift, die den Erstling definiert haben, als auch eine Weiterentwicklung, weil Driver gleichzeitig in unbekanntes Terrain vorstößt. Unter Ablehnung traditioneller Rock-Strukturen und der eher vorhersehbaren Konturen des Metal formt "Every Rock, Every Half-Truth under Reason" einen Sound, der sich gleichzeitig vertraut und fremd anfühlt, in dem eigens entworfenen mikrotonale Orgeln und Gitarren den Versuch unternehmen, die unmögliche Spannung zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft aufzulösen. Das Werk entfernt sich von der typischen Betonung der tiefen Frequenzen und schwebt stattdessen im oberen Spektrum, wo die Texturen zerbrechlicher und intimer, aber auch rauer und erschreckender werden. Auf diesem Album werden KAYO DOT auch von dem Geist einer kommenden Zukunft heimgesucht: dem Gespenst einer KI-generierten Kreativität. Die zunehmende Präsenz von künstlichen Kompositionen, prädiktiver Modellierung und algorithmischer Ästhetik wirft bereits einen langen Schatten auf die künstlerische Kreativarbeit. Dies veranlasste Driver dazu, auf eine Art und Weise zu komponieren, die sich Vorhersagen widersetzt, und eine Musik zu erschaffen, die sich der Mustererkennung entzieht. Ein großer Teil von "Every Rock, Every Half-Truth under Reason" ist dem Versuch geschuldet, gegen den Strich der Lesbarkeit zu bürsten und etwas zu erschaffen, das sich dem Zugriff von Vorhersagesystemen entzieht. Nach der Auflösung der beliebten Band MAUDLIN OF THE WELL gründete Toby Driver im Jahr 2003 das Avantgarde-Musikprojekt KAYO DOT als neues Vehikel für seine sprudelnde Kreativität. Horace Silver’s 1962 tour of Japan had a deep impact on the pianist who dedicated his album The Tokyo Blues to his Japanese fans. With his quintet of Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor, and John Harris Jr., Silver combined a “Japanese feeling in the melodies with the Latin feeling in the rhythms.” This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

London’s melodic punk outfit Burnt Tapes have released their most powerful and emotionally chargedrecord to date: New Lungs. Out now via Lockjaw Records, the album is a cathartic journey throughmental health struggles, lost connections, and the desperate hope for renewal.

Produced by Daly George (Creeper, Milk Teeth), New Lungs was recorded in two parts — split between the rustic isolation of an old stable-turned-studio in Aldershot and the famed Ranch Studios in Southampton. The band took a more collaborative, experimental approach to writing this time, building tracks piece by piece and capturing the visceral energy of their live shows.

Sonically, New Lungs builds on the grit and heart of 2019’s Never Better, but cranks up the intensity. Think big, anthemic sing-alongs, driving guitars, and a heavier edge, without losing the melodic honesty fans have come to love. New album from Field Medic, "surrender instead". surrender instead is everything a Field Medic fan could want and everything a Field Medic agnostic could need as a convincing sampler. The album returns to each checkpoint in Sullivan’s career thus far, documenting a twentysomething musician becoming a thirtysomething musician—an artist settling into what life exists just beyond the pale and oft-daunting demands of songcraft. This music does not adhere to one shape, and Sullivan is acutely aware of his own lore. He does not avoid well-trodden ground, but this is not the patchwork of old material that Floral Prince was near the dawn of this decade. These songs spawn from a never-finished nexus that hems the Field Medic universe together.

Acid Tongue is an American garage band heavily influenced by classic soul, punk & psychedelic rock. Formed in a damp Seattle basement in 2015, the band immediately hit the road, extensively touring the US & Europe and refining their unique brand of rock & roll. The brainchild of singer/songwriter Guy Keltner, the band also includes numerous touring & studio musicians scattered between Paris, New York, London, Mexico City, & Los Angeles, with a rotating roster that seems to grow larger by the day. In 2015, Acid Tongue established their own label, Freakout Records, and in 2017 the band released their debut album, aptly titled BABIES. The album is a soulful, stoney, heartfelt approach to modern psychedelia. Their 2020 sophomore album, BULLIES, expanded upon the themes of their debut, cementing the band as the Pacific Northwest's most unique garage-rock proprietors. For their third studio album, ARBORETUM, the band recruited veterans from the psychedelic rock scene during production, resulting in first-rate collaborations with artists such as Death Valley Girls, Naked Giants and Canadian singer Calvin Love. Acid Tongue's fourth full-length, ACID ON THE DANCEFLOOR, showcases their now signature sound and a back-to-basics approach to rock music.
