Mitreißende kubanische Rhythmen treffen auf zeitlose Weihnachtsklassiker
„Cuban Christmas ist ein Fest der Kulturen, des Miteinanders und der Musik, die die Weihnachtszeit so
magisch machen“, sagt Sarah Willis, Hornistin der Berliner Philharmoniker. Gemeinsam mit ihrem kubanischen Ensemble, der Sarahbanda, lädt sie mit diesem Album zu einem ganz besonderen Weihnachtsfest ein!
Die farbenfrohe, mitreißende Energie der kubanischen Musik trifft dabei auf zeitlose Weihnachtsklassiker
wie We wish you a Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad u.a. - einige davon mit Gesang von Carlos Calunga,
bekannt durch den legendären Buena Vista Social Club. Zu hören ist ein fröhlicher Mix aus Klassikern
wie Jingle Bells und Stille Nacht, alle durchdrungen vom unwiderstehlichen Groove von Salsa, Mambo,
Bolero und Son. Auch Tchaikowskys Nussknacker-Suite und Bachs Brandenburgisches Konzert Nr. 3
erklingen voller kubanischem Flair. Ein beschwingtes Weihnachtsfest mit Tanz um den Weihnachtsbaum
ist garantiert!

As time marched on, many of the DJs I had been working with such as Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Trevor Fung, Simon Dunmore and Johnny Walker got involved in the world-leading UK dance scene, raking in cash by making records. I thought ‘I’ll Have some of that!’ This led to my first foray into the studio creating the proto-acid jazz classic 12”, ‘Psychedelic Jack (That’s Where It’s At)’, which cheekily sampled Frank Zappa, Soft Machine and Gong. With me and Gilles on vocals, it got us signed to Acid Jazz Records, who released in 1988 under the name of Extasis.

That was just the start and nearly 35 years later (gulp!) I’ve had a ball, producing Galliano and Paul Weller, working with Mick Talbot, Roy Ayers, Linda Clifford and Sharon Redd, remixing Will Downing, Ce Ce Rogers and Blaze. I’ve made house tunes with Faith’s Terry Farley, run the legendary Dadhouse Records label with Dave Jarvis. I also set up my own studio and released music under a variety of names, both for my own labels and Acid Jazz Records. Recent releases include my solo albums “Firebird” (2023) and “Dream World” (2024). There was also “Back To Business” with Mick Talbot, released in 2023.

Christopher Willis und dem Grammy-Gewinner William
Ross geschrieben wurden. Durch den Einsatz neuester
Technologien im Bereich des maschinellen Lernens wurde
die bestehende Gesangsstimme sorgfältig restauriert und
verbessert, um ein bisher nicht gekanntes Maß an
Klarheit und Tiefe zu erreichen. Das Ergebnis ist ein
gefühlvolles, atmosphärisches Album, vertraut und doch
anders, mit üppigen Klanglandschaften, die den
unverfälschten Gesang begleiten.

I Can Only Be Me ist das jüngste Kapitel einer unvergleichlichen posthumen Karriere und ein bahnbrechendes neues Kollabo-Album mit dem London Symphony Orchestra. Eva Cassidys Originalgesangsparts wurden isoliert und mit neuen Arrangements von Christopher Willis (Schmigadoon!, Death of Stalin) und William Ross (Star Wars, Harry Potter) versehen. Mithilfe neuer Technologien des maschinellen Lernens wurden die vorhandenen Gesangsparts sorgfältig restauriert, um eine bisher ungehörte Klarheit und Tiefe zu erreichen. Das Ergebnis ist ein gefühlvolles, atmosphärisches Album mit üppigen Klanglandschaften, die den unverfälschten Gesang begleiten. Das Album enthält neu definierte Versionen von Klassikern wie Songbird, Time After Time, Autumn Leaves und Ain't No Sunshine.

Acid Jazz has a long history with Chris Bangs (who coined 'acid jazz')
and Mick Talbot (founding member of the Style Council) who appeared on one of our earliest and rarest singles as 'King Truman' back in 1988.

We're thrilled to welcome them back with a 7" slice of mod jazz
brilliance, taking its rhythmic and naming queues from Willis Jackson as it cooks up a storm.


We've already been inundated with requests for this single after its
solitary play on Ed Piller's Eclectic Soul Show, and the limited vinyl
release will not hang around for long!

Sing a song fighter have never been more proud and happy than to finally announce and release this unissued and unheard fantastic recording South African in exile Johnny Dyani was one of the greatest bass players. Played with Don Cherry, Chris McGregor, Archie Sheep, Dollar Brand / Abdullah Ibrahim etc etc. He also made many great albums as a bandleader. And a few rare minimal albums where it was mostly him and his upright bass. He died way too early, in 1986. Karl Jonas Winqvist (Sing A Song Fighter) ranks some of Dyani's works ("African Bass", 'Witchdoctor's Son" with Okay Temiz and "Good News From Africa', with Dollar Brand) as "the most natural, creative musical force there is'. KJW investigated for years if there was more recorded Dyani material waiting to be heard. And where After e-mailing endlessly with the National Radio Museum in Switzerland he finally found what he was looking for.In 1978 graphic designer Niklaus Troxler arranged the great Willisau Jazz Festival in Switzerland. A lot of legendary artists like Max Roach, Jan Garbarek, Elvin Jones and Don Cherry were performing, and Johnny Dyani was one of them. He did this rare solo concert with some of the material that two years later would end up on his great album "African Bass". This LP contains the concert from beginning to end, showing Dyani at his very best on piano, gong, bass and vocals.
