The Black Madonna aka Marea Stamper ist durch ihre Residency in der Chicagoer Smart Bar bekannt geworden und wurde 2016 vom Mixmag als DJ of The Year gefeiert. Sie verknüpft Georgia's ansteckenden Pop mit einer unverkennbaren souligen Disco- und House-Produktion und treibt das Original damit sogar noch mehr in die Höhe.

A Bath Full of Ecstasy vereint den Sound, für den die Band berühmt geworden ist - Euphorie und Melancholie verschmelzen mit bunten Melodien, eigenwilligen Gesangslinien und pumpenden elektronischen Pop-Rhythmen. Für die Produktion holten sie Philippe Zdar, den französische Maestro, der die Magie von Cassius und Phoenix geprägt hat, und Rodaidh McDonald, der mit The XX, David Byrne, Sampha, u.a. zusammen-gearbeitet hat, ins Boot. Es geht zurück auf das, was Taylor als Inbegriff von Hot Chip versteht: "Eine musikalische Formulierung dessen, was gesagt werden muss, oft aber nicht ausgesprochen werden kann".

Producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter and vocalist Devonté Hynes returns with his fourth album as Blood Orange, Negro Swan, released on Domino on August 24, 2018.

Raised in England, Hynes started out as a teenage punk in the UK band Test Icicles before releasing two orchestral acoustic pop records as Lightspeed Champion. In 2011, he released Coastal Grooves, the first of three solo albums under the moniker Blood Orange. His last album, Freetown Sound, was released to critical acclaim in 2016, and saw Hynes defined as one of the foremost musical voices of his time, receiving comparisons to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and D'Angelo for his own searing and soothing personal document of life as a black man in America. He has collaborated with Solange Knowles, Skepta, fka twigs, Carly Rae Jepsen, A$AP Rocky, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Blondie, and many other artists, and was recently one of four artists invited to the Kennedy Center to perform alongside Philip Glass. In addition to his production work, he scored the film Palo Alto, directed by Gia Coppola.

Negro Swan was written and produced by Hynes. Says Hynes:

'My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.'

Weird-Pop-Männerfreundschaft: Connan Mockasin und LA Priest vereinen ihre Kräfte unter dem Moniker Soft Hair!

Unter dem Moniker Soft Hair haben sich gleich zwei Enfants Terribles der Szene zusammengefunden. Sam (Eastgate) Dust ist bereits unter seinem Pseudonym LA Priest Mitglied der Domino Familie. Zusammen mit Connan Mockasin haben beide jetzt die Haare schön. Soft Hair ist ein Projekt, das Mockasin und Dust schon vor über fünf Jahren auf Facebook angekündigt hatten. Das war etwa ein Jahr, nachdem die beiden sich auf der letzten Tour von Late Of The Pier kennengelernt hatten. Connan hatte damals den Support für Sam Dusts Band gespielt. Während Sam Dust aber die Welt bereiste, seine eigenen Instrumente erfand, malte und Bildhauerei lernte, bevor er 2015 als LA Priest sein Solo Debüt "Inji" veröffentlichte, veröffentlichte Mockasin mit "Forever Dolphin Love" und "Caramel" sogar zwei vielbeachtete Alben, tourte mit denen durch die ganze Welt und arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Vince Staples, Charlotte Gainsbourg und James Blake. Es ist so also kaum verwunderlich, dass es mehr als fünf Jahre gedauert hat, bis das Album der beiden fertig wurde. Alle Songs wurden in einer Sozialwohnung in St. Anne und einer Fabrik in Sneinton in Nottingham aufgenommen, über einer Autoreparaturwerkstatt und einem alten Schulgebäude in Anawhata, Neuseeland, im Keller und Schlafzimmer von Sams Haus in Loughborough, in Connans Wohnung nahe Old Street, London, im Studio Ferber, Paris, in einem Bungalow in Kurby Muxloe, in Leicestershire und ein bisschen auch in Hotels überall in Europa

Nach der Veröffentlichung seiner "Dreamzone EP" verbrachte der gebürtige Finne Jaakko Eino Kalevi das vergangene Jahr hauptsächlich damit, Shows und Festivals von Europa bis Japan zu bespielen. Letzten Sommer veröffentlichte der finnische Workaholic zudem seine "Yin Yang Theatre EP" für das Beats In Space Label des New Yorker DJs & Radio Hosts Tim Sweeney, die mit ihrem bohemen Disco-Sound erneut aufzeigte, wie vielseitig Kalevi sein kann. Die zweite Hälfte des Jahres 2014 mixte Kalevi sein fertiges Album dann in New York mit Nicolas Vernhes (The War On Drugs, Run The Jewels) und zog anschließend nach Berlin. Sein selbstbetiteltes Synthie-Pop Album erscheint Mitte Juni auf CD und Vinyl via Weird World/Domino Records.

"Fading Love" ist das Debütalbum des britischen DJs und Produzenten George FitzGerald. Die zehn Songs wurden in London und in Georges Wahlheimat Berlin aufgenommen und produziert. George hat mit seiner Kombination aus House, Garage, Techno und Dub seinen eigenen Sound gefunden und sich in den letzen Jahren in der internationalen DJ- und Produzenten-Szene einen Namen gemacht. In an era where Gangsta Rap and G-Funk dominated the West Coast Rap scene, Souls broke ground on a completely unique and thoroughly west coast sound. While the Dr. Dre’s and the Snoop Doggs were garnering much of the mainstream attention, Souls were quietly forging a charismatic, critically acclaimed, and cohesively shaped record that when categorized, sounded much closer to A Tribe Called Quest than N.W.A. The sound of their debut is characteristic of the distinct style explored by the collective, including a rhyme scheme based on internal rhyme and beats centered around a live bass and obscure jazz and funk samples. 93 ‘Til Infinity was propelled into success by its title track and lead single, which reached #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Considered by many to be a textbook “slept-on” classic Rap record, 93 ‘Til Infinity has only grown better with age. The album simply defines the Hiero golden age with a sound that would later be fine tuned with strong releases from MCs Del The Funkee Homosapien, Casual and Pep Love. It takes some serious bravado to name your album 93 ‘Til Infinity, but certainly the goal of creating a Hip Hop “classic” must have been on the collective minds of group members A-Plus, Tajai, Opio, and Phesto when recording this landmark moment in Hip Hop history. It’s true, even seventeen years after the album’s initial release many people are still discovering it, and with this re-mastered reissue on double vinyl, fans all over the world will once again discover the brilliance that 93 ‘Til Infinity delivers and will continue to deliver beyond infinity.
