Die erste Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem japanischen Noise-Titan Masami Akita, alias Merzbow, dem legendären brasilianischen Schlagzeuger und Produzenten Iggor Cavalera und dem zukunftsorientierten italienischen Gitarristen und Sounddesigner Eraldo Bernocchi, ,Nocturnal Rainforest", schafft eine Klanglandschaft, die fast überwältigend dicht und verwirrend ist, aber niemals aggressiv oder chaotisch. Es ist ein vollständig immersives Erlebnis, das die jahrelange Arbeit des Trios im Bereich der extremen experimentellen Musik neu kontextualisiert, indem es sich auf Textur, Atmosphäre und sensorische Überlastung konzentriert. Der Noise selbst wird verwendet, um ein raffiniertes Maß an Konzentration zu provozieren; ,Nocturnal Rainforest" ist auf seine eigene Weise meditativ und umhüllt die Zuhörer mit Wellen von Verzerrungen, phantasmatischen, ungemessenen Rhythmen und verwirrenden, bearbeiteten Feldaufnahmen, aber es ist nicht für passives Hören gedacht. Als einer der bekanntesten und produktivsten Noise-Künstler der Welt hat Akita vielbeachtete, genreprägende Alben auf so unterschiedlichen Labels wie Relapse, Important Records, Tzadik, Cold Spring und Soleilmoon veröffentlicht und mit einer Vielzahl von Künstlern zusammengearbeitet, von Keiji Haino und Mika Patton bis hin zu Melt-Banana und Boris. Seit 1979 hat er über 500 Merzbow-Alben veröffentlicht, darunter das Tape-Experiment ,Pornoise/1kg Vol.1" von 1984, das bahnbrechende Noise-Wall-Album ,Pulse Demon" von 1996 und das dubartige ,Merzbuddha" von 2005. Cavalera ist vor allem als Mitbegründer der brasilianischen Metal-Band Sepultura bekannt. Seit er die Band 2006 verlassen hat, beschäftigt er sich intensiv mit experimenteller Underground-Musik und arbeitet mit Künstlern wie Laima Leyton, Ninos Du Brasil, Raven Chacon, Linekraft, Petbrick, Pig Destroyer, Soulwax, Dwid Hellion, Shane Embury und anderen zusammen. Bernocchi begann seine Karriere in den 70er Jahren in verschiedenen Punkbands und wurde in den 80er Jahren bekannt, als er das postindustrielle Kollektiv Sigillum S mitbegründete und Kontakte knüpfte, die sich über die gesamte globale Underground-Szene erstreckten. Als aktives Mitglied der einflussreichen Illbient-Bewegung arbeitete er mit einigen der wichtigsten Persönlichkeiten des Genres wie Spectre, Bill Laswell und DJ Olive zusammen und nahm für WordSound sowie das Kult-Hip-Hop-Label Rawkus auf. Bernocchi hat seine innovativen Aktivitäten fortgesetzt, indem er als SIMM mit dem Grammy-Gewinner Grime MC Flowdan zusammengearbeitet und mit Harold Budd, Robin Guthrie von den Cocteau Twins, Gaudi Nils Petter Molvaer, Hoshiko Yamane und vielen anderen aufgenommen hat. ,Nocturnal Rainforest" ist das Ergebnis der kontinuierlichen musikalischen Entwicklung jedes einzelnen Künstlers, angetrieben von extremer Musik, aber gemildert durch Deep-Listening-Techniken, die Präsenz statt Distanzierung erwarten. Auf ,Swietnenia Macrophylla" vermitteln suggestive, feuchte Klanglandschaften zunächst ein prekäres Gefühl der Sicherheit, das an den Rändern durch schnurrende Schwingungen, die die Fauna des Dschungels imitieren, verschwimmt. Und diese Ruhe wird schnell durch perkussive, nebelhornartige Verzerrungen unterbrochen, die das Ausmaß der Vision des Trios verdeutlichen. Es handelt sich nicht nur um rohen Lärm, die raueren Elemente werden durch subtile Wellen wogender Atmosphäre und schwüle Low-End-Drones unterbrochen, bevor der Track in eine Symphonie computergenerierter Stottergeräusche übergeht. Es gibt ein ständiges Hin und Her zwischen organischen und künstlichen Klängen - bevor man sich an den DAW-verfälschten Lärm gewöhnt hat, trüben collagierte Bandübersteuerungen und zerschnittene Verstärkerbrummen die Atmosphäre, verwirren gezielt die Sinne und verschleiern die Quellen. Dieser Gedanke wird in ,Ceiba Pentandra" fortgesetzt, wenn das Trio den wimmelnden Klängen des Dschungels mit knurrenden, surrenden Elektronikklängen und dichten Interferenzen folgt. Was als Vogelgesang und Insektenchor beginnt, verwandelt sich in eine Wand aus ohrenbetäubender, transzendenter Vollspektrum-Textur, die sich wie ein langsam voranschreitender Sturm über einer schattigen Wildnis auftut.

Suburban Architecture are pleased to announce the sixth instalment in their 'Architecture Dubs' series of limited edition 10" vinyl releases. While previous editions have seen some of the most revered names active during the mid 90s golden era of Drum & Bass deliver remixes of Suburban Architecture material, this final release from the series sees the remix duties handled by the duo themselves.

Following on from the now sold out release of Architecture Dub #001 to #005 (featuring remixes from Peshay, Blame, Nookie, Ray Keith and 4Hero among others), edition #006 features a pair of VIP versions, previously only heard in Suburban Architecture DJ sets.

The A-Side features a rework of the track that started it all, 'Visions '96', the title cut from the duo's 2019 debut EP. The familiar pitched Rhodes pads, ominous vocals and intricately chopped Apache breaks of the original are all present, but new layers of atmospherics, tougher drum programming and a full, deep bass all serve to elevate the track in this 2025 rework.

On the flip, 'Future Jazz '95', originally featured on the duo's 2020 sophomore EP 'Alternative Futures', gets a musical rework. Maintaining much of the structure of the popular original, the original vocals and some of the drums remain while, Rhodes, Bass, Atmospherics and more are all replaced, delivering a cut which manages to feature largely new material while retaining the feel of the original.

Pressed on 10" vinyl and housed in brown Kraft paper sleeves, the series makes visual reference to the exclusive dubplate pressings which introduced so many classic cuts to the UK's dancefloors in the 90s.

Mutant is proud to present Academy Award®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s latest installment of his Exotic Themes for the Silver Screen series - Featuring more iconic scores from Giacchino’s career that have been exclusively rearranged and re-recorded for this series in the retro lounge style of the 1950s.

Volume 2 spans the period of 2012 to 2022 and features not only his work with Marvel Studios (including their iconic Marvel Studios Fanfare, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and more!) but also more career defining music for Disney • Pixar (Inside Out, Coco and Lightyear) as well as smaller, cult classics like John Carter, and Tomorrowland, more personal films such as Jojo Rabbit and The Book of Henry. He has taken these iconic themes and transformed them into soothing, beautiful 60’s lounge-inspired reworks.

Other highlights include ‘The Batman Suite’, taken from Matt Reeves' 2022 blockbuster The Batman, ‘Jyn Erso’s Theme’ from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as well as themes for War For The Planet Of The Apes, Jurassic World and two selections taken from his directorial debut Werewolf By Night

Der Grammy-nominierte, New Yorker Komponist/Perkussionist Eli Keszler präsentiert sein neues, selbstbetiteltes Album. In den letzten Jahren kollaborierte Keszler mit Oneohtrix Point Never, Skrillex, Rashad Becker und Laurel Halo, komponierte die Filmsoundtracks für Olmo Schnabels "Pet Shop Days" (2023), Lotfy Nathans "Harka" (2022) und Dasha Nekrasovas "The Scary Of Sixty First" und lieferte mit Daniel Lopatin die Filmmusik für "Uncut Gems" (2019). Nach gefeierten Alben wie "Icons" (2021) und "Stadium" (2018) ist sein neuestes Werk ein freizügiger, Lynch-artiger Songzyklus, in dem Keszlers virtuose Darbietungen eine lebendige Landschaft abstrakt-elektronischer Klänge durchqueren. Das Album atmet, knarrt und seufzt auf 12 Tracks. Noir-artige Jazz-Torch-Songs machen huschenden Trommeln und filmischen, dubartigen Texturen Platz. Die Texte werden von fast unhörbaren Stimmen geflüstert und geweint, als kämen sie aus einem entfernten Raum. Mit Gastauftritten von Sängerin Sofie Royer und Saxophonist Sam Gendel.

"Echomania" (1993) ist ein klassisches Dub Syndicate-Album, auf dem Drummer "Style" Scott und Bassist "Flabba" Holt, das Fundament der mächtigen Roots Radics, die monströsen Rhythms zusammenhalten, während Adrian Sherwood seine Magie an den Reglern wirken lässt. Mit Gastauftritten von Lee "Scratch" Perry bei "Dubbing Psycho Thriller" und "Dubaddisababa", Michael Franti (Beatnigs, Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy) bei "No No" und dem Tabla-Virtuosen Talvin Singh auf mehreren Tracks. Das seit langem vergriffene Vinylformat wurde von Frank Merritt im The Carvery neu geschnitten und enthält rare Fotos von Coneyl Jay und neue Linernotes von Rob Harris (Testpressung).

Exotic Themes for the Silver Screen – Volume 1 spans nearly two decades of Michael Giacchino’s music, from his early video game scores to his television hits and blockbuster films. The album transforms these works through the lens of Exotica, replacing epic strings and thundering drums with vibraphones and marimbas.



“This album was inspired by the work of Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny,” says Giacchino. “What would they do with the Star Trek theme? Or video games like Medal of Honor? It was a way for me to play in that world I loved so much growing up. I thought it would be fun to create a fantasy world, where this album was recorded back in 1967 and then lost, only to resurface today.”

The album showcases Giacchino’s unerring talent for melody, stripping down grand symphonies to their essential elements while retaining their aesthetic and emotional core.

Bay Area producer Dubamine returns to Dub-Stuy with yet another sureshot featuring the label’s own JonnyGo Figure on vocals. The title track, Bulletproof, is a classic Dubamine tune: a ghostly, flute melody riding over a deceptively minimalist riddim that showcases his skills in crafting compelling beats. Jonny comes correct on this one, mashing up the dance in his own trademark style. The flipside is another Dubamine banger, this time sampling the unmistakable voice of an iconic British DJ, over a rolling riddim with righteous horn lines that channel Aswad. Kicking things off on our next 4-track vinyl sampler series is Toolroom's very own Martin Ikin who returns to the label with ‘Make U Sweat’! He was the Best-selling Tech House artist on Beatport in 2020 and 2021 and has over 1m monthly listeners across streaming platforms. Recent studio collabs have included Noizu and Joshwa and tours have seen him travel far and wide to the US, Brazil, Bali, Ibiza, Italy, Croatia and of course, his hometown of London. This new record is the follow up to 'Oscill8' that dropped in March 2023 and sits in a similar lane, in that it's pure, unadulterated club weaponry! Next up is Italian house legend Flashmob with the frenetic, high-energy club vibe of new cut ‘My Body’. Flashmob's sound, production and go-for-broke DJ sets have changed with the game, embracing the vitality of new house music rather than hankering after sentimental sunsets. His ethic and aesthetic move relentlessly forward, using the old and new to craft unique sonic alchemy from big festivals like Tomorrowland to the intimacy of small clubs on the international circuit. ‘My Body’ is typical of Flashmob's current sound, combining solid drums and some insane synths and fx, alongside an earworm vocal sample that results in yet another memorable club cut from an established master. Canadian Tech House maestro Nathan Barato debuts on Toolroom kicking off the B-side to the vinyl alongside studio partner, Matheo Velez with 'Weapon'. A record that has already caught the attention of the underground elite with Michael Bibi premiering the track at his first appearance back at DC-10 in Ibiza last Summer. Both artists are enjoying great success across key labels such as Viva, Circus, Snatch and RAWthentic. This is an addictive, bumpy club track

that packs a huge punch on the dance floor and actually features Nathan's very own 'Move me… Rock me' vocals! Rounding things off is UK DJ/producer duo, Jenn Getz & Alfie who are residents at Dubai's #1 nightlife destination, Soho Garden, where they warm up for legends such as Sonny Fodera, MK, Claptone, Solardo & Fisher on a weekly basis. In their relatively short 3 year career they have already released on Solotoko, Abode and Toolroom Trax and now debut on Toolroom with 'Vibration'. Both girls are incredibly passionate about house music and are also big advocates for a life centered around well-being and meditation, and the idea of this record was to combine their 2 passions in life, so they proceeded to co-write these original lyrics to accompany the track, which in itself is very inspiring! Als weiteres Alleinstellungsmerk: die Wortschöpfungskreativität. ,In der Tradition der Neuen Deutschen Welle, lassen wir Wörter entstehen, die ohne Erklärung auskommen. For a long time, the music of Congo-born Bony Bikaye had to be sought in the purgatory of "world music", where diamonds in the rough cohabited with bland nightmares of white dudes who froze rumba like fish sticks. Worse, they did put it on the menu, when so many longed to move on. Take Bikaye, who grew up listening to modern european music, digs Krautrock, struggles with tradition, obviously looking for trouble in the genre. In Brussels, he recorded a few albums with CY1 (Loizillon/Micheli), and brilliant defectors from Aksak Maboul, produced by Hector Zazou. Now it's up to french trio TONN3RR3 to take up the torch and build this project that proudly brags: "It's a bomb". Thought up at home by Guillaume Gilles (compo/keyboards), the album was finished at One Two Pass It studio, with Olivier Viadero and Gae"lle Salomon on percussion, Yoann Dubaud (machines & bass) and Guillaume Loizillon (synth of CY1 fame, and matchmaker of this affair). It's a deeply musical record, crafted by no-attitude reference players with nothing left to prove, and you can hear it. Floats well above the fray. "Keba na butu", beware. Indeed : beyond the simple pleasures of soukouss, or the rumba guitar riff that spins like a merry-go-round that skipped technical inspection, lie lush orchestrations. Freestyle, synthetic : something old, something new, something what-the- fuck-is-that-now. There's straight, there's syncopated, there's 808 and knee-jerk inducing bass patterns_with a vision. BIKAY3 plays his voice more than ever. His crazy vibrato has improved like hard liquor over the years. In "Zela" and "Balobi" in particular, he puts it to good use with flamboyant, Screamin' Jay Hawkins-style antics. He can also resort to pure storytelling : "La fore^t et les dieux", is a French-spoken excursion into the wild, moving along in grasslands of synths and percussion with TONN3RR3. A tale of gods and spirits, plain and simple. Nicole Mitchell brings the occasional flute in "Akei" for this trip in the bush of ghosts where lingala and kikongo rub with English and French. They saved "It's a bomb" for the end, a bastardized rumba, with rimshots that slap like a cool hand on willing skin. We're living in a golden age of reissues coming out in droves and satisfying our desire to catch up on our neighbors' musical heritage, but let's not miss the boat : it's now or never to listen to the music of the living. - Halory Goerger

Following on from the now sold out release of Architecture Dub #001 (featuring remixes from Peshay and DJ Trax), and #002 (featuring Blame and DJ Trace), edition #003 features remixes from two further legends in the scene, Nookie and DJ Crystl.

Nookie needs little introduction. From early 90s Hardcore through to present day heavy hitters via a string of mid 90s classics, Nookie has had an enviable career in the genre. Having recorded for seminal labels that heavily influenced the Suburban Architecture sound: Reinforced, Moving Shadow and Good Looking, Nookie was an obvious choice for this remix package. On this release he takes 2021's 'Renegade Horns' to more dancefloor oriented territory with an energetic roller that marries classic drum breaks with a contemporary production feel.

DJ Crystl is also a name with a storied history in Drum & Bass. Also releasing music since the early 90s, Crystl has seen releases on influential labels, Lucky Spin, Dee Jay Recordings, Moving Shadow and iconic US Hip Hop imprint Payday. Crystl's remix of 2020 Suburban Architecture cut 'New Horizons' carries classic 1994 flavour, delivering an extended, Amen-laced rework of the original, full of classic Intelligent sonics.

Pressed on 10" vinyl and housed in brown Kraft paper sleeves, the series makes visual reference to the exclusive dubplate pressings which introduced so many classic cuts to the UK's dancefloors in the 90s.
