Milton Bradley — aka Alien Rain — begins proceedings with a hammering assault in the form of ‘Driving Force’. Detuned, ravey synths produce a cacophonous barrage of sound as the rubbery kick groove intones more hardcore vibes. There’s a touch of John Carpenter vibes in the spooky arpeggios that permeate the more stripped back sections. Bone-crushing groove abounds throughout.

Italy’s Kill Ref delivers a distorted thumper on ‘Subbaculta’, slowly eeking out a rasping groove from the underbelly of his pummeling drums. The track keeps building throughout, the shuffling rhythm
bolstering some seriously raw machine funk in the latter half that emerges almost imperceptibly.

The ringmaster herself, Jamaica Suk, makes her contribution to the series on ‘Escape’. She conjures up a tripped-out soundscape where layers stack in potent combination. Squelchy acid licks do battle
with the stomping bass groove and heavily-reverbered sustained textures. It sounds as if there are monsters loose in the speakers.

Nicolas Bougaïeff closes this momentous four-part release with his second contribution, ‘Nocturne 3’. Rocking a stuttered kick pattern, it revolves around grunting swathes of industrial noise, on-beat
clap patterns and all manner of weird and wonderful sounds that pitch-bend, tweak and freak to delightful levels of intensity. It’s a very well arranged and sequenced track that keeps you guessing.

Isaac and Callum, known for their respective club nights: OCHI and Planet People have been quietly chipping away at the coalface of underground dance music for quite some time now.

Isaac - perhaps known more widely as a regular at Circoloco & Phonox has shared bills with the likes of Moodyman, DJ Bone, Kai Alce, Laurent Garnier and Marcellus Pittmann whilst being championed by Joy Orbison, Ben UFO, Moxie, Seth Troxler, Raresh and Floating Points to name but a few. With such an impressive CV and wide ranging support, it’s wild to note that the first EP released on his own label, OCHI only came out in 2023. His star is clearly ascending with rapidity - so when we throw long term collaborator Callum Asa into the mix, things start to get really interesting. Calum has been running Planet People for the last couple of years, welcoming incredible names such as Shed, Surgeon, Willow, Ploy, Cooly G, Rroxymore and so many more. Steel sharpens steel and having been surrounded by such esteemed talent, it’s clearly rubbed off on the pair who present 4 polished, meticulously constructed, club ready masterpieces, each with their own distinct feel and an insatiable groove.

‘Feel Me’ sets the scene with a descending baseline that would eek a wiggle out of the most reluctant spectator. The twisted dub eeks out even more groove, locking in a more sinister bounce for the heads. By The time ‘Understand’ get’s into full swing, we’re already under the spell of Carter & Asa, this is the kind of roller that could go on forever and ever. The synth embellishments and washes of analog synth pull us deeper and deeper in, prepping us for the finale , ’Try You’ which simmers with deep, brooding intensity.

The magic of the dup’s appeal is that this EP will find its way into the bags of the deepest diggers and also appeal to a new generation of house fans. Elements of it are accessible , but in the right hands - the EP will open a portal to new worlds.

Barnabas' einzige LP erschien in US-Miniauflage, wurde nie neu aufgelegt und entwickelte sich zur begehrten Rarität. Das italienische Reissue-Label JAMDUNG legt sie nun nach 50 Jahren neu auf. Von Dubplates & Mastering Berlin aufwendig restauriert, enthält sie neue detaillierte Linernotes der beiden renommierten Reggae-Autoren Helmut Philipps und David Katz (Lee Perry-Biograf), die hier erstmals zusammenarbeiten. Stanley "Barnabas" Bryan erlebte die Wiederveröffentlichung seines Albums nicht mehr. Er verstarb am 18. August 2025 im Alter von 65 Jahren während der Arbeiten zu dieser Neuauflage, die unerwartet zu seinem musikalischen Vermächtnis wurde.

Die Aufnahmen des Originalalbums von 1982 finden sich auf der ersten LP, sie wurden mit den Musikern der Roots Radics in Bestbesetzung im Channel One Studio eingespielt und im King Tubby Studio abgemischt. Am Mischpult saß Hopeton Overton Brown, besser bekannt als Scientist, und für die Produktion zeichnete Linval Thompson verantwortlich. Auf der zweiten LP finden sich die dazugehörigen Versionen der Sänger u.a. von Eek-A-Mouse, Linval Thompson, Dennis Brown und den Viceroys und den Meditations. Für dieses herausragende Re-Issue Projekt wurde die Top-Adresse, was Audio-Mastering in Europa angeht, die Firma Soundmasters in London, engagiert. The Skankin' Monks featuring Kenyatta Hill making a big tribute to his father, the legendary Culture vocalist, Mr. Joseph Hill. Babylon's Big Dog is a rearranged remake of the Culture classic from 1982's Lion Rock LP.

The Skankin' Monks are a reggae formation from Amsterdam that gets inspiration from several styles. In 2013, they had a big hit with singer 'CHEZIDEK's "ALL MY LIFE" - Since then they collaborated with artists like Eek-A-Mouse, Meta Dia, Kenyatta Hill & Christos DC etc.. Mafia & Fluxy are the UK’s foremost Reggae rhythm section and were initially inspired by Sly And Robbie, consisting of brothers Mafia (Bass) and Fluxy (drums). Legends of the stage and the studio, they record regularly in the UK & Jamaica, building rhythm tracks for Bunny Lee, Blacker Dread, King Jammy, Exterminator and Jah Shaka. They continue to work with the cream of the crop in terms of Reggae, having recently backed Luciano & Eek-A-Mouse on their world tours.

The album classic from from 1982 re-issued. All music recorded at Channel One and mixed at King Tubby's studio by Scientist, as backing band the Roots Radics in fine style. A top-a-top Henry 'Junjo' Lawes production. Riddim directory note: "Love In A Mi Heart" is a reminiscence of "Bubble Up", the title track "Chip In" is based on the Prophecy/Peanut Vendor riddim and "Saturday Night Jamboree" is on the same riddim as Eek-A-Mouse's "Noah' Ark".

UK/Yorkshire born multi-instrumentalist Jules Brennan has been
creating original funk, jazz and psychedelic soundscapes for most of
his life. Cutting his teeth in the fertile ground of the acid jazz and hiphop scene of 1990s Nottingham in bands such as My Family Tree and his own quirky funk combo Eekman, he then took a left turn and planted himself in Kyoto, Japan, where he has lived for 20 years. This
eastern influence and his obsessive jazz vinyl collecting has inevitably filtered into his productions and lately his kaleidoscopic, Japanesetinged instrumental grooves have been finding their way onto the airwaves, gaining support from some of the leading tastemakers of the global underground.

Debuted by BBC One in the UK and NETFLIX globally, psychological horror series Requiem became an instant hit, not least because of it’s haunting, spine-tingling score. Conjured by award-winning composers Dominik Scherrer (The Missing, Ripper Street & Marple), and Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes, Requiem is an eerie landscape of sharp, scraping cello, soothing harps and tense string sections. From the urban uncanny to folk horror, there is a distinct atmosphere in the fresh collaborative dynamic between the British-Swiss decorated grandmaster of unique television series soundtracks Scherrer, and the rising enigma of alt-pop, twice Mercury Music Prize-nominated singer/songwriter Khan. Of their alchemical and otherworldly creative chemistry, composer Dominik Scherrer recalls: “Natasha Khan and I spent some weeks in my studio in Brick Lane, coming up with themes and recording outlandish vocals and terrifying sounds. There is a cheeky element to the show, as well as a genuinely scary one. Together with a pastoral spookiness of the cello and strings themes started to give Requiem its own unique atmosphere. We experimented with deviant playing techniques and unconventional recording approaches, to complete a moody air of retro horror and pastoral spook.” Available for the first time on CD and LP, this highly celebrated “spooksome” score harkens back to the 1970s lo-fi soundtracks from BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop or 1970s horror soundtracks. Winning an Ivor Novello award for the “Best TV Soundtrack” in 2019, Requiem is a one of a kind treasure, now rightfully preserved and beautifully presented on lush vinyl and CD format by Svart Records. “Requiem promises much, not least in way of sound. Nominally just another spooksome BBC tingler – old castle in Wales, birds flying into windows, locked room, pagan symbols, creepy locals – it is rendered a whole cut above by not having the heroine’s every move into peril foreshadowed by dissonant eek-eek string” (The Guardian)

Only four releases into it's blossoming back catalogue, and Molly's RDV label continues to establish itself as an unmissable outlet for contemporary house and techno with an EP from long-established, always-vital German producer, Dana Ruh.The twitchy, rhythmic 'Natural High' sets the rhythm, ideal for those easily seduced by Ruh's indelibly tight drum work (or those about to be converted to it nonetheless). 'Moonday' then expands the sound with a deeply satisfying bassline that blossoms in myriad evocative directions, incorporating trippy acid fluctuations, haunting vocals and a general sense of strobe-lit urgency.On the flip, and 'Vattenfall my A' establishes the energy which which it shares its namesake, trading in a minimal but flexible bassline and eeking out each ounce of tension, in the confident, minimalist style Dana Ruh is beloved for. To close the EP, Molly herself takes 'Vattenfall my A' to task, tunneling deeper still with a remix that establishes several shades of fresh, sensual ambiguity, not to mention, an ominous bassline that flirts with the edge.

It's no exaggeration to say that Geraldo Pino and his band the Heartbeats kickstarted the whole soul/funk/afrobeat scene in West Africa. Mixing highlife, funk and jazz, and using the latest equipment, they laid waste to all before them. In 1966 Fela Kuti was a jobbing musician, eeking out a living with highlife bands. When Gerlado Pino came to town, it changed his life. Pino tore up the scene,' he recalls in an interview with Carlos Moore. I knew I had to get my shit together. And fast!'. Produced by Odion Iruoje and engineered by Emmanual Odenusi, Let's Have A Party is Geraldo Pino's masterpiece. It's slick and heavy, tough and uncompromising, with musicianship that will blow your mind. It's all killer, no filler, with 'Heavy Heavy Heavy' and 'Let Them Talk' bonafide, nailed on funk classics. The Heartbeats are exactly that, a tight and efficient engine that keeps the groove moving. This is US-style funk, with an emphasis on extended percussion workouts and organ wigouts. You can't listen to 'Power To The People' without being impressed - or compelled to dance. The extended call out to each Heartbeat in 'Let's Have a Party' is well deserved. If my house caught on fire, this is the one album I'd rescue. After one listen, I reckon you'd do the same. - Peter Moore

Following the excellently received Dilation LP on FILM, the duo return to the Berlin based imprint for a remix package featuring FaltyDL, Grand Optimist, Djrum & Portable Sunsets. Erol Sarp & Lukas Vogel's ingenious use of the grand piano has won them many plaudits over the years.
