Ride bassist Steve Queralt's debut solo album Swallow is a beautifully brooding nine-track collection that combines the darkly textured soundscapes of early M83 and Sigur Rós with an electronic sheen reminiscent of Boards Of Canada. It also features guest vocals from Sonic Cathedral labelmate Emma Anderson (formerly of Lush and Sing-Sing) and Verity Susman (Electrelane, MEMORIALS).Swallow has been slowly but surely pieced together between Ride albums and tours over the past five years and, perhaps as a result, has a slightly dystopian, Blade Runner feel that reflects the liminal spaces in which it was created. Despite the fact that the majority of the album is instrumental, there is plenty of power and emotion poured into these moody, moonlit soundtracks. When words do appear, an underlying anger and political slant emerges and amplifies the album's dark intensity. This is most notable on the closing track, `Motor Boats', where he overlays words from Julie Sheldon's polemic poem The Same Boat ("We're all in the same boat they say, but I would disagree"). According to Steve, these simple words of rejection "capture the reality of our times perfectly". However, it was the collaborations with the two guest vocalists that tied the whole thing together and paved the way to the finished album. "After a few false starts, I had started to doubt the project altogether. It was going nowhere," says Steve. "Then, out of the darkness, Emma got in touch to tell me that she'd found her voice and could I send her some tracks. A few files back and forth and an afternoon in the studio later and we had `Lonely Town' and `Swiss Air'."In the meantime, Verity from Electrelane had added vocals to the song `Messengers' and transformed the track. Matthew Simms, now her bandmate in MEMORIALS, would go on to mix the finished album."Swallow has turned out so much better than I had hoped," enthuses Steve. "I'd fallen out of love with it so many times I was thinking of calling it Loveless. But then, that wouldn't be the whole story...

Often touted as a "masterpiece of jazz-funk live albums," The Wooden Glass's 1972 live recording proves it's more than just hype. Featuring vibraphonist Billy Wooten who previously played with Grant Green, this record was recorded at Indianapolis' The 19th Hole club and captures the essence of fusion driven by soulful 60s influences. Wooten's gentle melodies contrast with the gritty, distorted sound of Harold Cardwell's powerful drumming and Emmanuel Riggins' Hammond organ while the energetic performance from the band, including guitarist William Roach, creates a tapestry of intensity and dreamlike vibes. It's raw, electrifying, high-energy jazz.

Forgetting is Violent is the most powerful release to date from Los Angeles saxophonist and composer Patrick Shiroishi (The Armed, Wild Up), with timely suites that meditate on racism and addiction. The music developed in part through extensive solo touring opening for Emma Ruth Rundle, in which Shiroishi brought effects pedals to the forefront. For the first time on a solo LP, Shiroishi has brought in collaborators: a who’s who of heavy music, including Aaron Turner (SUMAC), Gemma Thompson (Savages), and Mat Ball (BIG|BRAVE). Abgeleitet vom sambischen Wort für 'Zukunft', verwebt 'SOGOLO' den von der Garage inspirierten Psych, Funk und Rock, den WITCH in ihrer Blütezeit in den 1970er Jahren buchstäblich miterfunden haben, mit dem experimentellen Geist des Augenblicks. GAUPA, deren Name im Deutschen "Luchs" bedeutet, kehren mit abgespeckter Besetzung auf dem neuen Mini-Album "Fyr" zurück, wobei die Schweden damit zugleich auch ihr bislang fettestes und stärkstes Material servieren. Der Titel ist ein vielschichtiges Rätsel und Wortspiel in schwedischer Sprache: "Fyr" kann die Zahl "4" meinen und sich somit auf das Mini-Album als ihre vierte Veröffentlichung beziehen. Andere mögliche Bedeutungen sind "Leuchtturm", "Lichtzeichen" und "Feuer", die ihrerseits ebenfalls zur Musik und zur Lyrik passen würden. Der neue und von GAUPA bewusst dafür ausgewählte Tontechniker Karl Daniel Lidén hat den Tracks auf "Fyr" einen rauen, aggressiven Sound verpasst. Gleichzeitig bleiben auch die Kernelemente des musikalischen Ansatzes der Schweden präsent. Dazu zählen eine fesselnde Komplexität, spacige und trippige Strophen, die auf einem stetigen Strom von Psychedelik reiten, sowie Kaskaden harter Stoner-Riffs. Sängerin Emma Näslund hat sich zur Lyrik von "Fyr" durch Ursula K. Le Guins preisgekrönten Science Fiction Roman "Das Wort für Welt ist Welt" inspirieren lassen. Ihre Texte beschäftigen sich mit dem Konzept der Zeit und der Frage nach der Wirklichkeit, die sich in verschiedenen Variationen in allen Songs des Mini-Albums finden. Seit der Veröffentlichung ihrer selbstbetitelten EP im Jahr 2018 haben GAUPA der Stoner und Psychedelic Rock Szene neue Wege gebahnt und einen einzigartigen Kosmos geschaffen, der durch bezaubernden lyrischen Surrealismus und bewusstseinsverändernde Sounds definiert ist. Titans of the UK jazz scene, singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe and clarinettist Giacomo Smith have come together to form The Entertainers, which features members of Kansas Smitty's House Band, Joe's own band, and guest vocalists Emma Smith and Pete Horsfall. 'Can We Entertain You?' is the first single from the forthcoming album 'Welcome to the Club' and this signed vinyl edition is now available.

Dummy is a rock band from Los Angeles comprised of Alex Ewell, Emma Maatman, Nathan O'Dell, and Joe Trainor. Their debut full-length "Mandatory Enjoyment" (Trouble in Mind) arrived in late 2021, becoming one of the year 's sleeper hits and garnering praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum, and more. Coming out of lockdown, the band spent two years touring in support of the record, and it is this transformational experience that pulses through "Free Energy ", the exhilarating follow-up to "Mandatory Enjoyment". A creatively restless band, Dummy (Ewell: drums, synths, bass; Maatman: vocals, synths, organ; O'Dell: vocals, guitar, organ; Trainor: guitar, bass, synths) wanted to get harder, dancier, more psychedelic for their next record. This meant applying explorative potentials of electronic textures to the elemental qualities of rock i.e. more vocal loops, sampling, more crazy rhythms, and playful synths - but make those samples of Trainor 's guitar, let Maatman sing bolder, experiment with using cold mechanical elements in warm and sparkly ways, and lean harder into traditional-yet-still-awesome forms of rock guitar experimentation like feedbackThe result is a record that celebrates music's ability to move the body, whether that be through a teeth-rattling wall of MBV-esque noise, a sticky pop chorus, or a joyous drum machine_or, if you're Dummy, maybe all of them in the same song. Pop music has always been a big part of Dummy's sound and it manifests in different ways all over Free Energy: the bubbly synth sequence made with a Korg EM1 popping all over "Nullspace," the revved-up drone-pop inspired by second and third wave Dunedin Sound bands like Look Blue Go Purple and Dadamah, and the motorik beat powering "Nine Clean Nails," perhaps the most confidently pop song Dummy has ever recorded and one that exemplifies "Free Energy "'s balancing of live performance intensity with electronic augmentations, the dancier rhythmic elements created out of a drum loop recorded by Ewell while the bridge recalls the Feelies with call-and-response guitars from O'Dell and expressive vocals from Maatman. "Free Energy " also features guest appearances from Oakland-based saxophonist and electroacoustic artist Cole Pulice (Moon Glyph) contributes saxophone and wind synths and Jen Powers of Powers / Rolin Duo (Astral Editions, Feeding Tube Records).
