,Fragments" ist das Debütalbum von Billy Fuller, Mitbegründer von Beak>. Obwohl es sich um ein Soloalbum handelt, ist es kein Soloalbum im herkömmlichen Sinne, das die Gedanken und Gefühle eines Künstlers während eines bestimmten Zeitraums widerspiegelt. Es ist ein Album, das einen längeren Zeitraum umfasst, da es Fragmente von Billys Schaffen in seinem Heimstudio aus den letzten Jahren zusammenfasst. Er vergleicht den Prozess der Zusammenstellung der Tracks mit dem Erstellen einer Kassettenkompilation für einen Freund, als er noch ein Kind war. Fragments ist stimmungsvoll, immersiv und völlig ungebunden. Auf dem gesamten Album spielt kosmisch angehauchte, hauntologische Electronica frei mit Melodien und findet emotionale Resonanz für unsere unvorhersehbaren Zeiten. Neu-artige Wiederholungen und motorische Grooves pulsieren unter verzerrten Electro-Texturen, und gelegentliche Spoken-Word-Passagen driften wie Übertragungen aus einer unbekannten Sendung herein und wieder hinaus. Gelegentliche Einblendungen psychedelischer Prog-Gitarren durchbrechen die dunstige Atmosphäre und bringen den Sound weiter in Richtung Fullers eigener Art von hypnagogischem Pop, der seltsam und doch zutiefst menschlich ist. ,Fragments" ist kein Album über Singles oder Trends. Es ist Musik aus Liebe zum Musikmachen, von einem Musiker, der seit über 25 Jahren ununterbrochen neue Musik produziert und veröffentlicht. Es ist ein selbstloser Triumph der musikalischen Freiheit. Billy Fuller ist vor allem als Gründungsmitglied, Songwriter und Bassist der Band Beak> bekannt. In den letzten 16 Jahren haben er und seine Bandkollegen vier Alben, zahlreiche Einzel-Singles, EPs und Soundtracks veröffentlicht, wobei Fullers Bass stets die treibende Kraft in ihren Kompositionen war und Beak> seinen charakteristischen Sound verlieh, der wie immer auf dem Bass aufbaut. Fuller hat im Laufe der Zeit auch an vielen anderen Projekten mitgewirkt. Im Jahr 2003 begann er seine 17-jährige Tätigkeit als Bassist von Robert Plant, spielte Bass auf dem Album ,Heligoland" von Massive Attack, wirkte an vier Alben von Baxter Dury mit und arbeitete außerdem mit Alicia Keys, Billy Nomates, Rachid Taha, Anika, Lucrecia Dalt, Tottenham Hotspur FC und vielen anderen zusammen.

Mit ihrer ersten EP beweisen Fuller, dass es oft nicht viel braucht, um gute Rockmusik zu machen - außer Gespür, Haltung und ein bisschen Mut zur Reduktion. Der Aufbau ist klassisch: Schlagzeug, Bass, Gitarre, Gesang. Doch was daraus entsteht, ist weit mehr als die Summe seiner Teile. Die Songs sind kurz, direkt und dabei voller Details, die sich erst beim genaueren Hinhören entfalten. Die Band verzichtet bewusst auf überflüssige Effekte und verliert sich nicht in ausufernden Arrangements - stattdessen setzen sie auf rohen, ehrlichen Sound, der an DIY-Proberäume und verrauchte Spätsommernächte erinnert. In Stücken wie "Mew" feiert die Band die einfachen Freuden des Lebens, während "The Nix" melancholisch und reflektiert in persönliche Verlusterfahrungen eintaucht - ohne in Klischees abzurutschen. Es sind diese Kontraste zwischen Leichtigkeit und Schwere, zwischen Spielfreude und Nachdenklichkeit, die den Reiz der Platte ausmachen. Die Gitarre übernimmt dabei oft eine tragende, fast erzählende Rolle, während Bass und Drums für das nötige Fundament sorgen. Produziert wurde das Ganze gemeinsam mit Christian Bethge, dessen Feingefühl für Klang und Atmosphäre der EP zusätzlich Tiefe verleiht. Fuller brauchen keine großen Bühnen, um Eindruck zu hinterlassen - sie bleiben lieber im Proberaum, wo alles echt klingt und nichts inszeniert wirkt. Und genau das macht sie so besonders.

Curtis Fuller (December 15, 1932 – May 8, 2021) was an American jazz trombonist best known for being a member of several legendary jazz outfits, his impressive catalog of solo albums and a contributor to many classic jazz recordings.

Fuller was born in Detroit and lost both his parents at a very young age. He spent several years in an orphanage run by Jesuits where he developed a passion for jazz after one of the nuns there took him to see his first live performance. Curtis attended public school in his hometown (together with Donald Byrd and Milt Jackson) where he took up the trombone at the age of sixteen.

Curtis Fuller was a well-respected member of iconic outfits such as Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Art Farmer’s Tentet, The Benny Golson Quintet and Eastern Rebellion. The list of his collaborations is impressive to say the least, Mr. Fuller recorded and performed with greats such as Quincy Jones, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Roland Kirk Rashaan, Miles Davis…and many others.

Fuller was granted an honorary doctorate of music from Berklee College of Music in 1999 and eight years later he was honored as a NEA Jazz Master. Curtis Fuller’s performances were included on classic recordings released by prominent labels from the likes of Blue Note, Savoy, Prestige, Strata-East, Muse, Verve and Impulse!

On the album we are presenting you today: Four On The Outside (Recorded in 1978 at the famous New York CI Recording Studio and released on Timeless Records the same year) the listener is treated to six majestic tracks of the highest caliber and features a remarkable outing of advanced musicianship by jazz-giants in their prime, delivering an inspirational gem of an album.

The all-star line-up includes Pepper Adams (Oliver Nelson, Lalo Schifrin, Herbie Hancock) on saxophone, Dennis Irwin (The Jazz Messengers, Chet Baker) on bass and James Williams (Calvin Keys, Thelonious Monk) on piano.

Four On The Outside shows off Fuller’s mastery of the Trombone and this delightful set features him in a front line with Pepper Adams delivering a unique trombone-baritone saxophone combination (few others have followed this intriguing coupling). Limited Clear Vinyl edition, 500 copies! Originally released on Impulse in 1962 “Soul Trombone and the Jazz Clan” was a major statement from one of the great trombone players in American jazz. Here Fuller displays an outstanding hard-bop ensemble based on a bunch of great individuals all at the top of their game. Fuller himself is part of a super strong horn section with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, while the groove is assured by a hard swinging rhythm section with pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Jimmie Merritt and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Fuller gives lots of space to his musicians who naturally respond and empathize with great solos.In one word: an outstanding record!

Japan's Fuller and UK-based Skelton collaborated on this album during lockdown, and as both were confined to their respective islands they used Judith Schalansky's 'Atlas of Remote Islands' as an inspirational text throughout the project. Exchanging cello, accordion and piano parts, they gradually created three slow moving, beautiful pieces of ambient that mix organic and synthetic studio textures and create a space for thought and reflection in the mind of the listener. Or, if that doesn't appeal, a chance to simply lose yourself and luxuriate in some deeply chilled tones.

RON HOLDEN was born to a prominent black Seattle family in 1939 and was a high school football star. His singing talents were first noticed by police officer Larry Nelson after Holden found himslef in the cells after a night on the booze. Officer Nelson went on to form the ‘Nite Owl’ label and recorded Ron Holden on the #7 Billboard hit “Love You So”. Holden recorded “I’ll Forgive And Forget” for ‘Challenge’ in ’67, produced by label-mate Jerry Fuller.
JERRY FULLER was born into a country music family in Fort Worth, Texas in 1938. He signed to Gene Autry’s ‘Challenge’ label in 1959 and hit with “Tennesssee Waltz” ahead of penning the six-million seller for “Travelin’ Man” for Ricky Nelson (although it was intended for Sam Cooke). The self-penned “Double Life” was released in ‘66 and later achieved iconic status in the UK.

Jerry wrote and/or co-wrote 21 songs that Ricky recorded from 1961 to 1985, certainly the longest time of any composer from Ricky’s musical associations. Born in 1938, Jerry will turn 83 years old on November 19th, 2021 and is still active musically. He continues to compose and issue records that are enjoyed by his many fans.



Little doubt that Jerry’s biggest hit was “Travelin’ Man” that Ricky first recorded during the March, 1961 sessions at United Recording Association studio located on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, CA. It was Ricky’s second number 1 hit on the Billboard Charts, with the flip-side being “Hello Mary Lou” penned by the great Gene Pitney.

It’s an important statistic to note that Ricky carried 11 double-side hits into Billboard’s Top 40. Certainly was not easy to have material strong enough to carry 22 songs into these chart achievements which was extremely impressive musically, then and now. The only other single rock n’ roll performer to eclipse that level of success, was Elvis Presley. And they were good friends.

One of the reasons for Ricky’s longevity in music was made possible by his abilities to reinvent himself during phases of time through many genres of music. He was an artist, a song-writer, a poet, and a real inspiration creatively, to countless musicians that stood on his shoulders and benefitted from Ricky’s musical experiences.

Jerry’s contribution was certainly a factor in that success that Ricky accomplished. Only five tracks composed by Jerry that Ricky recorded were never officially released from his session catalog. This includes what is believed to be released as the follow-up song to “Travelin’ Man” – a song called “Window on the World” recorded during the November, 1961 sessions at Master Recorders on Fairfax Ave in Hollywood, CA. A beautiful and stunning song that would have stood the test of time.

The songs chosen for this LP vinyl record provide a great example of Jerry’s contribution to Ricky’s success. The bonus track (Desire, by The Trophies) has Ricky singing back-up which was well-mixed into the background harmony

For our 7th release we are delighted to be reissuing a single that has brought us a lot of joy in recent times. We first came to hear Delores Fuller’s beautiful single One More Chance Lord in the same way we have heard a lot of new music over the last year and a half – through a friend’s lockdown recommendation. Ever since, the single has been a staple in our collection and permanently on our turntable.Perfectly transcending the genres of gospel, modern soul and disco. One More Chance Lord kicks it off with a piano riff that’ll be stuck in your head for days, building to a soaring chorus with lyrics that would fit any uplifting category. My Greatest Desire on the flip, is a ballad reflecting Delores’ vocal talents. Stripped back with only the piano for accompaniment. Delores singing about values of life - “not searching for riches, not hungry for fame”. Perhaps inadvertently explaining why this single has never had the prominence it so deserves.

The single was originally released in 1983 on Intro Records, a US based label predominately active throughout the 1980s. After a little diggin’ we reached out to Dwain Jones who duly licensed us the both sides and informed us that the single features a truly amazing arrange of musicians. Stanley Banks; bassist on classics albums such as George Benson’s Breezin’, Jonathan DuBose, guitarist with renowned gospel group The Clark Sisters and not to mention Pee Wee Ellis; James Browns band leader in the late 1960s who’s sax can be found peppered throughout Delores’ album God’s Love.Remastered and now available again on the teal green label of Miles Away. GALA announce Ten Years of GALA – a compilation marking a decade of independent culture

Ten Years of GALA is both an archive and a horizon: a reflection on where GALA has come from, and a signal of what lies ahead.

Founded in 2016 as a one-day gathering in South London, GALA has grown into a global point of reference for dancers, artists and collectives drawn together by a shared commitment to independence, collaboration and underground music culture. Rather than charting success through scale alone, the festival has consistently prioritised integrity, community and musical curiosity – values that underpin this release.

Spanning fifteen tracks, Ten Years of GALA unfolds as a considered journey. It opens with an intimate spoken contribution from Charlie Dark, grounding the compilation firmly in GALA’s home of Peckham before gradually expanding outward into fuller, club-focused terrain. From there, the record moves between moods and tempos, tracing a path from reflective moments into the physical language of the dancefloor.

The compilation brings together longtime friends of the festival alongside newer voices drawn into its orbit in recent years. Each artist contributes a distinct perspective, but collectively the tracks form a coherent portrait – not of a single sound, but of a shared ethos shaped over ten years of gatherings, collaborations and days spent dancing together.

Rather than a retrospective in the conventional sense, Ten Years of GALA functions as a living document. It captures fragments of past editions, scenes and relationships, while remaining firmly oriented toward the future. These are not museum pieces, but records designed to be played, shared and folded back into the spaces from which they came.

Together, the compilation holds a piece of GALA’s first decade – not as a closed chapter, but as a foundation for what comes next.

Constructive is pleased to announce, 'Utopia or Oblivion', a new compilation featuring ten artists inspired by the pioneering work of R. Buckminster Fuller, with each track inspired and in response to Fuller's work specifically Utopia or Oblivion', first published in 1963.

From the irregular glitch pop scintillation of 'How Would I Be? What Would I Do' by German artist & founding member of To Rococo Rot, Robert Lippok, to the heartfelt ambient and seraphic voices of 'Afterimage' by Japanese artist Tujiko Noriko (Editions Mego, PAN, Room40), through to the tensile, eruptive, dub-contoured emittances of 'Tensegrity Rhythms' by Peruvian experimental composer Ale Hop (Karlrecords).

Elsewhere, there are appearances from the Bafta-nominated composer Adam Janota Bjowski (Saint Maud OST), musician & Constructive co-founder Adrian Corker, London-based experimentalist No Home, Italian artist & NTS Radio resident Silvia Kastel (Blackest Ever Black, Palto Flats, Youth), British sound artist David Prior, and a unique collaboration between the British DIY experimental musician Richard Skelton & Corey Fuller, a descendant of R. Buckminster Fuller.

Amsterdam-based producer Retromigration makes his debut on the launch of a new Oathcreations imprint "KARAMÜRSELL?" with 'Can't Go', a hyper-kinetic and rapturous piece of dance music sure to ensnare any dancefloor.
Inspired by soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop, his auditory identity is one of profound melodic effusion and expert percussive sequences, absorbed within life-affirming atmospheres.
'Can't Go' feels like yet another landmark, tuning itself into the pulsating energies of the club, drawing lines between bass music, footwork, garage and jungle.
The EP is completed with 'Distant', featuring fuller harmonies, a tear-jerking chordal line and a spiritual sax solo.

Not long after the well-received 'Bottlemess Brunch' and 'Billa' dropped, the FLDIN2 label is back with another killer drop. This one, we're told, draws on Fold producer Rob's early immersion in pirate radio and record-collecting years in suburban London during the early 2000s. Lovers of Ben UFO, Joy Orbison and Floating Points will all be into the lo-fi designs, not to mention the irresistible garage, tech and dub swagger he packs into these jams. 'Lotion' is a crispy, tightly coiled and skeletal UKG sound underpinned with wobbly low ends and sprinkled with chopped vocal fragments that make for a ghostly groove. 'Soft Launch' is fuller, with a more boring emotional impact from the yearning vocal stabs that are teased and buried throughout the mix.

Brooklyn Sway's 8th installment arrives from outside with more unexpected debuts and riotous returns to form. Experienced Barcelonian Larry Lan's epic 10-minute opener 'WTNG' is minimal goes post-punk, repurposing well-known, undisguised lyrics into an aggressive take on early Perlon and explanation enough for his recent album drop on Cadenza. BKS vets N/UM return with 'A Free Woman in Queens' showing off a reduced side of their sound adjacent to mid-00s minimal with plenty of character, its stripped intro giving way to a fuller, dubbed-out second half, with the cheeky vocal and instrumental touches joined by a swelling pad. Featuring spoken vox from Mari Blue and the debut of BKS co-head Asha Jasz alongside DeWinter and Jay Prouty, 'Acid in Your Coffee' takes the dirtier route, with layers of zapping electronics, an insistent single-note acid bass, and synths drifting between tones and textures all veering off like its vocals before eventually returning to center. LA/Bucktown scallywag $coe brings it home with 'The Devil is a MF Liar', an acid jam whose profanity-laced vocal samples don't require divine intervention to decipher. Bookended by a pair of interludes, the first on the power of repetition and the last in memoriam BK legend Big Sexy in his own words, and again featuring striking artwork from notable NYC street artist Fumero, BKS keeps that Sway from going astray.
