Nachdem er im April 1960 als Sideman auf Jimmy Smiths Soul-Jazz-Zwillingsklassikern “Midnight Special” und “Back At The Chicken Shack” einen starken Eindruck hinterlassen hatte, gab Blue-Note-Chef Alfred Lion Stanley Turrentine im Juni die Chance, sein erstes Album als Leader für das Label aufzunehmen. “Look Out!” verkündete die Ankunft eines zutiefst gefühlvollen neuen Saxofonisten, der sein Herz und seine Seele in jede gespielte Note goss.

Die Aufführung, die Yunchan Lims Karriere begründete, über 16 Millionen Aufrufe auf YouTube erreichte und ihn über Nacht zum Weltstar machte.

Im Juni 2022 wurde Yunchan Lim der jüngste Goldmedaillengewinner des Internationalen Van-CliburnKlavierwettbewerbs; seine Darbietungen zeugten von einer „magischen Fähigkeit“ und einer „natürlichen, instinktiven Qualität“ (La Scena), die Zuhörer in aller Welt in Erstaunen versetzte. Die Juryvorsitzende Marin Alsop äußerte sich wie folgt: „Yunchan ist der seltene Künstler, der tiefe Musikalität und erstaunliche Technik organisch miteinander verbindet.“

Nun veröffentlich Decca Classics pünktlich zum diesjährigen Van-Cliburn-Wettbewerb Lims phänomenale, von Kritikern und Fans gefeierte Aufführung von Rachmaninoffs Klavierkonzert No.3 erstmals physisch und in Dolby Atmos, mit zusätzlichen Liner Notes von Jed Distler und einem speziellen Text der Juryvorsitzenden Marin Alsop.

Das Herzstück der klanglichen Reise von Waltari ist Kärtsy Hatakka, Mastermind und treibende Kraft der Band. Hatakka, der für Lead- und Backing-Gesang, Bass, Programmierung, Keyboards und Perkussion zuständig ist, hatte während der Entstehung dieses Albums mit einem persönlichen Sturm zu kämpfen - dem Verlust seiner Mutter, einer schmerzhaften Trennung und der Tatsache, dass er mit ansehen musste, wie die Welt immer tiefer in Chaos und Spaltung versank. Die Frustration und der emotionale Aufruhr dieser Zeit sickern in jede Note von »Nations' Neurosis« ein und machen es zu einem von Waltaris bisher aufgeladensten und zum Nachdenken anregenden Werken.

"Metalhorse" ist das dritte Studioalbum von Billy Nomates, nach dem von der Kritik hochgelobten "Cacti" von 2023 und ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt von 2020. Ein Konzeptalbum, das sich um das Bild eines verfallenen Jahrmarkts dreht und für die Turbulenzen des Lebens steht - Risiko und Vergnügen, Gefahr und Rausch. Die 11 neuen Songs erkunden Blues, Folk und pianobetonte Arrangements, die Billy Nomates' starken Punk-Sound in eine pastoralere Richtung lenken. "Metalhorse" ist das erste Billy Nomates-Album, das in einem Studio und mit kompletter Band aufgenommen wurde. Zur Besetzung gehören die Bassistin Mandy Clarke (KT Tunstall, The Go! Team) und der Schlagzeuger Liam Chapman (Rozi Plain, BMX Bandits), dazu gab es einen speziellen Gastbeitrag von The Stranglers-Frontmann Hugh Cornwell zu dem Song "Dark Horse Friend". "Metalhorse" ist eine Balance der Extreme. Verlust, materielle Unsicherheit und der Versuch, sich selbst treu zu bleiben, vor dem Hintergrund eines zunehmend unvorhersehbaren globalen Chaos - die Waage hätte leicht in Richtung Dunkelheit kippen können, aber je mehr Tor Maries durchmachen musste, desto wertvoller wurden die kleinen Momente des Glücks. "Metalhorse" fordert den Hörer auf, seinen eigenen Rummelplatz zu finden; es wird immer Dinge geben, die sich gefährlich anfühlen. Gleichzeitig muss man die Lichter bestaunen, solange sie noch brennen. "Metalhorse" tanzt mit diesen Gefühlen von Ungewissheit und Freude und ist von Schmerz und Ausdauer durchdrungen.

There are bands that you feel you have known forever -- recent ones, new
ones even -- because you are already so familiar with what you know they are
going to offer, familiar with the anticipation and the need, with the pleasure
you expect them to, quite rightfully, provide the masses (by which I mean
people who have once considered calling their first-born Kang)
VERDICT is such a band. It has members of MEANWHILE, NO SECURITY,
WARCOLLAPSE, 3- WAY CUM, TOTALITAR, and too many other bands, and even
though I have never actually met any of them, I still have had more interactions with
them through (over)playing and rocking to their records than I have had with some
members of my family, which, to be honest, is definitely for the best. VERDICT is a
rather new (but experienced in the things of the D) kang hardcore band, and they know
exactly what they are doing and how to do it. Had they produced something different,
that would have completely taken me aback -- something horrendous like ska- punk
would have made so little sense that I would have had to quit punk altogether. Alright,
what about The Rat Race, then. This is the follow-up to last year's Time to Resign, and
this one has even more punch, fury, and pummeling power than its predecessor.
Unoriginal, in a good way, and thoroughly checking all the correct boxes: the
drumming is pure and relentless, the riffs' efficiency is religiously executed in a
"Scandicore 101" way, the vocals are angry, direct, and raspy. Think a joyous orgy
between NO SECURITY, UNCURBED, and TOTALITAR.
This is the kind of record that makes the world a better place to rock. Thank you

Corsican artist Barbara Carlotti does wonderful, slightly melancholic chansons. Her noble timbre was an almost perfect match for the subtly arranged tones of her debut album "Les Lys Brises". With the follow-up work "L'Idéal", Carlotti has gained even more class. Both albums have been released on the English 4AD label, which proves that pop need not fear any language barriers. And a great singer like Barbara Carlotti certainly doesn't. Further albums on e.g. Atmospheriques, Elektra France and Les Maison Des Reves did follow, in 2025 Carlotti returns with new French Pop chansons now. This limited two track 12" showcases two titles from her current March 2025 album and is exclusive to RSD 2025

Nils Frahm hält sein Versprechen aus dem letzten Jahr und veröffentlicht eine weiteres Piano-Album nach Day. Die Stücke auf Night nahm Frahm auf dem Klavins M450 auf - einem einzigartigen Klavier, das in seinem Studio im Berliner Funkhaus steht. Gebaut wurde es vom deutsch-lettischen Klavierbauer David Klavins für den ersten Piano Day im Jahr 2015 - ein von Frahm initiierter Feiertag, der in diesem März bereits zum zehnten Mal mit Konzerten und Aktionen rund um den Globus begangen wird. Mit 4,5 Metern Höhe und über einer Tonne Gewicht war es damals das größte aufrecht stehende Klavier der Welt. Das neue Album erinnert daran, dass Nils Frahm zwar längst für seine komplex arrangierten, multiinstrumentalen Werke bekannt ist, aber seinen Ruf ursprünglich mit ebenso meditativen Klavierkompositionen auf Alben wie The Bells (2009), Felt (2011) und Screws (2012) begründete. Wie schon Day zeigt auch Night, dass Frahm ein Meister der subtilen Schönheit bleibt - mit Stücken voller Zärtlichkeit, Eleganz und einer prägnanten Ausdruckskraft, die lange nachklingt.

The Deepshakerz return to Crosstown Rebelswith a new three-track EP, ‘Give It 2 U’. The Italian duo deliver a trio of original productions as they make their second appearance on the label. Italian pairing The Deepshakerz make their long-awaited return to Damian Lazarus’ iconic Crosstown Rebels imprint with their latest EP ‘Give It 2 U’, set to open May in style. However, eventually, in a hidden enclave in the highlands of Reykjavík, he met Dr. Amara El-Amin, a neuroscientist fascinated by his unique immunity. Together, they discovered that Gunnar's resistance was a gift, offering insights into human consciousness and the power of music.
