‘When The 2000s Clashed: Machine Music For A New Millenium’ is the story of how, 25 years ago, a new form of electronic music – known as electroclash - reignited a tired clubland and gave the indie scene and mainstream pop a shot in the arm in the process. Over this 3LP highlights set, carefully curated from the 5CD box of the same name (also released, 3rd October) the collection showcases the back-to-basics electronic beats that heralded in a new generation of exciting and innovative new artists - Hot Chip, Peaches, LCD Soundystem, and Ladytron, to name a handful. It also shows how the sound and attitude of electroclash plugged into the decade’s cutting-edge indie bands, (Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party), and became intrinsic to the way chart pop would sound in the first decade of the 2000s (Kylie, Goldfrapp).

The collection also shows how the scene’s underground DIY ethos evolved and inspired the next generation of electronic buccaneers (Simian Mobile Disco, Justice Vs. Simian). ‘When The 2000s Clashed’ brings together a dazzling, diverse selection of artists, producers and remixers from right across the 2000s zeitgeist – from The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, from M.I.A. to Soulwax and many points in-between. For good measure, there’s also one side of LP3 given over to the original post punk and electronic sounds (including Kraftwerk, The Human League and Cabaret Voltaire) who’d played such a big influence on the electroclash sound. ‘

When The 2000s Clashed’ was compiled and sequenced for Demon / Edsel by Jonny Slut, founder of London’s electroclash citadel Nag Nag Nag. Established in 2002, in a small Soho venue called Ghetto, ‘Nag’ quickly became THE hottest club, first in London and then in the whole world. A glorious mess and hedonists’ hotspot, a night at ‘Nag Nag Nag’ (if you could get in!) saw the capital’s club kids, students and creatives rub up alongside names from the fashion and music worlds - Björk, Pet Shop Boys, Kate Moss, Boy George, Alexander McQueen, and Pam Hogg were among the regulars. Madonna visited, so did John Peel, Yoko Ono asked to perform and did, Throbbing Gristle’s Chris and Cosey DJ’d, so did Marc Almond, and Too Many DJ’s.

Justin Timberlake was refused entry (too many bodyguards)… even Cilla Black was spotted getting down! Jonny shares these reminisces – and many more - in the collection’s sleevenotes. Named after the 1979 Cabaret Voltaire classic, ‘Nag, Nag, Nag’ became the first place to hear the seemingly endless flow of thrilling new tunes coming from every direction during that decade of dance. Many of them are included on this collection.

For the 33rd release of the Acid Avengers series, we invited two projects made by four veterans of the french electronic scene. Fondzyo, a new duo composed of John Lord Fonda and Kazyo (half of Teenage Bad Girl), is delivering here its first release. Nomenklatur, the pair formed by the founders of Elektrofon, is already known for bomb releases on Module, Space Factory and their own imprint. Visionary producer and one half of pioneering electronic duo The Chemical Brothers, Tom Rowlands returns to Phantasy with ‘We Are Nothing / All Night’, the first solo dancefloor material since his last appearance on Erol Alkan’s storied London label in 2013 with ‘Through Me / Nothing But Pleasure’.

Once again, Rowlands delivers a double A-side single in order to commit two progressive new productions to wax. Heavily road-tested across the world in Chemical Brothers DJ sets, the sprawling arrangement of ‘We Are Nothing’ trips through a decades-long obsession and subversion of house music and psychedelia alike. Imaginatively sampling Canadian outsider artist Bill Bissett, Rowlands uses the poet’s existential phrasing as the foundation for a rising slalom of acid catharsis, peppered with snatches of soul, analogue freakouts, and all-encompassing groove.

‘All Night’, meanwhile, finds a different, perhaps unexpected rhythm. Here, Rowlands’ unmatched studio instincts deviate in a different direction entirely, employing a searing tempo to embrace the analogue experimentation at the heart of his work, as well as an appreciation for electronic music’s willingness to barrel ever-forward; the result is a worthy head spinner from both label and artist alike.

Tom Rowlands will play a rare solo DJ set at Glastonbury's Stonebridge Bar on Friday 27th June, as part of Bugged Out's 30th Anniversary celebrations.

Having established a reputation as one of the most versatile and respected producers in the game - with over a decade at the forefront of UK bass music, spanning UKG, grime, bassline and drum & bass, Flava D needs no introduction. Now, with her debut drum & bass album Here & Now, she levels up once again, channelling years of dancefloor know-how into a project that's as weighty as it is emotionally dialled-in.

A self-proclaimed fan of Hospital Records from the age of 14 - the first drum & bass CD she ever bought being 'Hospital Mix Vol. 1' - Here & Now marks a particularly paramount milestone for the Bournemouth-born beatmaker. Across 15 tracks, Here & Now captures the breadth of Flava D's musicality, offering a bass-charged, genre-spanning statement that's rooted in experience but tuned into the present moment. With a star-studded bank of collaborators, including MPH, Anais, Unglued, SOLAH and more, the album highlights Flava D's curatorial ear and the strength of her network across the scene.

At its core, Here & Now is a meditation on presence - a fresh, fearless chapter from one of the UK's most consistently innovative producers. The album is equal parts masterful and functional, giving fans what they came for while revealing new layers of Flava D's ever-evolving sound. Through its stacked line-up of collaborators, Here & Now also connects voices who are helping shape the future of dance music, from the underground up.

Kyntral is a co-founder of the so-far so-sophisticated Argentinian label Danza Nativa, and he serves up a deeply immersive trip here. 'Inner Depths' is liquid deep techno in the mould of Neel or Donato Dozzy. Percolating rhythms and dubby undercurrents subsume mind and body while deft little details place you underwater. 'Bloodstone' is a little more lumpy with a gentle smattering of percussion of drums that bump. 'Ancient Apparition' is a spacious sound with wispy pads disappearing to infinity, glassy tinkles and undulating drums all getting you into a meditative state. The Patrick Russell Phantom remix is more warped and dark to add a nice counterpoint.

Troubadours is a tentacular collective oscillating around Laura Lippie, Kim Khan and Dr Winzo.

“Everything Is Being Recorded All The Time” is the result of three years of sonic explorations in Lyon, Abbecourt, Berlin and Den Pasar, carving hours long studio jams into deep, narcotic mutated funkiness.

Traditional instruments and high-tech ones are invoked to confront beauty and misery : the system is contemplated through dilated pupils. Eric Broucek war der Ur-Ingenieur der fruchtbarsten Ära der DFA Studios, etwa von 2003 bis 2008 (niemand weiß genau, wie es damals war, da alles im Nebel des Chaos verloren gegangen ist). Er hatte seine Hand im Spiel bei allen Remixen, LPs und Dance-12s. Er war fast jeden Tag in diesem überladenen Equipment-Keller, nahm auf, mixte und bemühte sich, Tim und mir nicht die Augen zu verdrehen. Und irgendwo in diesem Nebel veröffentlichte er still und leise drei limitierte 12-Inch-Veröffentlichungen auf seinem eigenen Label Stickydisc Recordings - zwei unter dem Namen Babytalk und eine als Watussi zusammen mit einem weiteren DFA-Stammgast, Morgan Wiley. Damals wollte Eric seine Musik nicht auf DFA veröffentlichen. Er wollte seine eigene Identität entwickeln, was ihm auch gelang, indem er Musik herausbrachte, die mit ihrer einzigartigen schrägen, umgekehrten und zurückhaltenden Kraft vom DFA-Pfad abwich. Seine Musik ist so anders als alles andere aus dieser Zeit, so einzigartig, dass sie immer noch völlig zeitlos klingt. Vor ein paar Jahren begann ich wieder, die Tracks aufzulegen, und sah, wie die Welt immer noch von dem überrascht war, was Eric geschaffen hatte, und so entstand die Idee zu dieser Compilation. Axkan + Duellist – Resilence
Mexico meets Scotland for a brutalist assault: hammering kicks, serrated synth textures, and walls of analogue saturation. No safe passage here, only forward momentum into the heart of chaos.

EAS – Honored One
From Los Angeles, EAS delivers a tense, ritualistic construction where a subterranean EBM bassline pulses through metallic drones. Hypnotic, uneasy, and charged with controlled dissonance.
Ha†elove + Ogmah – Hanged Bodies
A dark ceremonial groove, heavy with ritual percussion and spectral synth chants. The layers rise to a fever pitch, blurring the line between transcendence and collapse.
Crystal Geometry + Axkan – Kratom
France’s Crystal Geometry joins Axkan for a militaristic strike of modular chaos and pummeling drums. EBM infused basslines drive beneath razor-sharp synth fire, rallying the midnight faithful to the front lines.

Next up on Bosconi, the ever-persistent Italian outpost helmed by DJ sorcerer Fabio della Torre, comes a bold new chapter from label mainstay Lapucci—a familiar name to heads who remember his trippy debut Levitated Sensor Detector (LSD).

With Level of Control, the Florence-based Burbi Dub dubplate conjurer delivers a four-track EP that travels across moody electronics, psychedelic grooves, and off-world rhythms.

Kicking off the A-side is “Radio Controller”, a dark and melodic new beat jam with deep ‘80s roots—think obscure synths, rolling drum-machine funk, and a haunting vocoder line that crackles like forgotten transmissions.
Next up, “Einstein”. This one’s a jacking electro-techno burner, all drive and tension—built for those peak-time moments where things feel like they could go off the rails. There’s a cinematic sense of anticipation here, a nod to the cosmic weight of relativity and dancefloor gravity.

Flip to the B-side for “Level of Reality”—a trance-soaked electro weapon, laced with a screaming guitar-like lead and a soaring, emotional melody. It’s peak-time power with sunrise sensitivity—equal parts rave and revelation.
Closing things out is “Irabijanti”, a stripped-back, hypnotic afterhours tool with a fresh, effortless groove. Subtle nods to Middle Eastern scales and rhythms give it a dreamlike, drifting feel—like getting lost in the dunes of some alien desert.

Another must-have from the Bosconi mothership—Lapucci pilots us further out, not with a bang but with a slow magnetic pull into somewhere weird, warm, and wired.

SOULMEEX sixth label release is finally here, delivering a luminous burst of dancefloor energy with The Velvet Dust EP by Faroese-Copenhagen artist Brynjolfur. Infused with Balearic dream house aesthetics, it unfolds as a three-track euphoric journey. Deeply cinematic yet built for the club.

The EP features Skyline Groove, Solstice Serenade, and Golden Circle, each offering a different facet of Brynjolfur distinctive sound. To complete the package, Portuguese-Italian producer Vhyce delivers a striking remix of Skyline Groove, adding his own personal touch.

The visual identity of the release is completed with artwork by Icelandic photographer Valtýr Daregard, adding an atmospheric layer to the record.

BERNADETTE BASCOM - I DON’T WANNA LOSE YOUR LOVE

I DON’T WANNA LOSE YOUR LOVE is a revered soulful gem courtesy of the incomparable Bernadette Bascom. The original 1981 ‘Solidarity’ 7s command a four figure price tag.

Reissued again due to high demand and presented here is an extended version which includes a sublime instrumental break - crafted by Philip Ward.

CAN’T YOU FEEL MY LOVE on the B Side is a sultry smouldering song from a demo session that Bernadette recorded some twenty years ago, produced by the famous Sir Mix-A-Lot.

‘Moonshot’ is a genre-defining EP heavily influenced by electro and dark wave music.

It crafts intense, pulsating beats that seamlessly blend intricate rhythmic patterns, bleak pad synths, and a driving atmosphere into powerful, club-focused tracks — all layered with groovy basslines and sharp breakbeat energy. What sets it apart is XXOK’s haunting voice, delivered in both Korean and English — a personal interpretation of introspection and melancholy that adds emotional depth and resonance.

Die Cinematic-Funk-Visionäre The Diasonics liefern mit ihrem neuen Album ,Ornithology", das am 3. Oktober über Record Kicks veröffentlicht wird, ein weiteres solides Set aus östlich angehauchtem Psychedelic, Cinematic und Disco-Funk. Nach ihrem 2022 von der Kritik gefeierten Debütalbum ,Origin of Forms", das von PopMatters zum Library Music Album of the Year gekürt wurde, kehren die in Moskau ansässigen Instrumentalisten The Diasonics mit ,Ornithology" zurück, einem zweiten Album, das ihre klanglichen Grenzen erweitert und gleichzeitig ihrem unverwechselbaren Stil treu bleibt. Aufgenommen in ihrem eigens errichteten Studio 23, das sich in einer umgebauten Lampenfabrik aus der Sowjet-Ära befindet, ist das Album das Ergebnis von zwei Jahren intensiver kreativer Erkundungen und Experimente. Berlin musician and DJ Nastia Reigel presents her debut solo album, Identity, on Function's legendary Infrastructure New York imprint.
