The Moonwalkers is a unique immersive show about the Apollo and Artemis moon missions narrated by Tom Hanks. Anne Nikitin’s rousing soundscape to

this epic experience which offers a unique perspective on humankind’s past and future voyages to the moon, was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

at the iconic Abbey Road Studios. The show opened at London’s Lightroom on 6th December 2023 and continued until 9th June 2024 before moving on to South Korea.

One of London’s most loved underground parties, Tangent, celebrates its 10th birthday this year with a new compilation on Mr Bongo. Its residents, John Gómez and Nick the Record, have curated a selection of prized, rare and dancefloor-ready tracks that have soundtracked the past decade of their parties. Alongside remastered reissues of these original cuts, the CD version of the compilation also houses three incredible edits from Nick, John and Dan Tyler of the Idjut Boys. These were too good not to press onto vinyl, so we’ve given them the standalone 12" they deserve.

Contextualising their edits Nick states, “Tangent was not only the place for us to play the music we love the most, it also became the testing ground for our edits. It was really helpful being able to see the effect each of these had on a dancefloor before the records were released and many of them also became firm Tangent classics.”

Up first, Nick is joined by Dan Tyler (Idjut Boys), who he runs the edit label Record Mission with, for a furiously feel-good re-edit of Leo Basel’s ‘Quelle Drôle De Vie’. Basing their edit on the 1987 ‘Special Remix’, it does what any great re-work does, dropping the sections from the original that don’t quite hit the mark, whilst focussing on the gold in amongst it all. The result is a slice of peak-time, French boogie joy, that will warm even the coldest hearts.

John then joins Dan at the dials for a cosmic revamp of Love Isaacs 'Surprise Surprise'. A serving of ‘80s electro-funk, dripping in swagger with a highlife tinge. John and Dan extended the grooves for maximum dancefloor power, space echoing it into the stratosphere at all the juiciest points.

Lastly, Nick takes on Rick Asikpo and Afro Fusion 'Let's Get High' from the super sought-after 1980 album, Got To Be Me. Celestial, gospel-infused soul from Nigeria, Nick homes in on the energetic last 2 minutes of the original as the building block of his 12-minute edit. A completely reworked, feverishly paced creation, Nick switches the sections around, saving the slow, soulful segment for a brilliant cosmic breakdown before the track erupts back into its full flow. Synthesised, jazz-funk elation from start to finish!

The Midnight Rock label was home to some of the greatest productions of the era, and like any smart Jamaican producer, label owner Nkrumah Jah Thomas worked his rhythms hard, using them to create scores of records by dozens of artists. Sometimes the tracks that he created were released, but still more languished in the vaults. Caught on multi-track tape, but never released.

That was the fate of a session that he recorded with Sugar Minott. The singer - known in the UK for his monster hit ‘Good Thing Going’ - had made his name in the vocal group The African Brothers, before working as a soloist for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. For the Acid Jazz distributed Roots Records, Thomas has worked hard in creating sharp new mixes for this single - a plea against gun violence as apt today as when it was put down on tape - the first fruits of that work.

After the Spanish escapade 'Teatro Lucido' and the sweet journey 'Paris Hawai', the group created by Marlon Magnée and Sacha Got continues their world tour with 'Rock Machine,' their first album entirely written in English. Composed over the past few years during various tours around the world, this new LP has been strongly inspired by the succession of dates in the USA, Canada, South America, Australia, and the encounters that ensued. The band returns to its New Wave and Synthwave roots from their acclaimed first LP 'Psycho Tropical Berlin' (Machine), which they mix with an Anglo-Saxon rock sound from the 80s/90s (Rock). This album is an ode to rock'n'roll, its effectiveness, and timelessness, but also an ode to love and despair. La Femme continues to develop with Rock Machine a universe beyond trends with their own sound and aesthetics. In addition to rock and synthwave sounds (of which 'Clover Paradise' is the perfect example), there's still electro (Sweet Babe), surf music (Ciao Paris), disco with a UK punk twist (My Generation), and even elements of western. The list is long but always unique and coherent

Both tracks were written and produced by Lee Perry. This is the first time these two complementary tracks have been released together.

The A side is the first ever reissue of the gorgeous SINNER MAN by ANNETTE CLARKE. This rare track was initially released as the B side of JUST ONE LOOK, also performed by ANNETTE CLARKE on the Technics label in the UK in 1973. It seems it was never released in Jamaica.
The B side SINNER MAN DUB is a very rare Lee Perry Dub version of the A side. It was released only as a single for a Lee Perry box of 8 very rare singles by Trojan in 2005. This box is now also rare.

ABOUT LEE SCRATCH PERRY:
Lee "Scratch" Perry was born Rainford Hugh Perry on the 20 March 1936 in Kendal Jamaica. An eccentric Reggae artist and a genius producer, Lee has written, sung and/or produced unique tracks for himself and everybody else worldwide from Bob Marley and Junior Murvin to the Clash and many more… Under his own name, he recorded over 80 albums, countless singles and covered every musical style from Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae to Dub, Roots Reggae and their electronic variations... His influence on Jamaican music and Reggae is just immense.
Perry died on 29 August 2021 in Lucea, Jamaica, during the Covid outbreak, aged 85.

ABOUT ANNETTE CLARKE:
Unfortunately, very little is known about Annette Clarke besides the fact there was a Jamaican singer that recorded Rhythm’ n Blues and Ska duets with Shenley Dufus in 1961 and with Charley Organaire in 1964. She also recorded this gorgeous duet with Roy Pantone “My Baby” in 1963.
Then nothing until this session with Lee Perry in 1973 where she aparently recorded just two songs, the lovely cover of the 1963 Doris Troy’s “Just One Look” and “Sinner Man”, a gorgeous song penned by Lee Perry and unrelated to the Nina Simone’s hit. Then there is no trace of further recordings after these. A real shame considering the outstanding talent she showcased with these two superb songs…

As the lead singer of the Archies, he had the year’s biggest selling song with the #1 Hit “Sugar Sugar.” Ron’s golden voice was coveted by every producer in Manhattan and he was the “go to” guy at Don Kirschner’s legendary Brill Building. Even Madison Avenue called as Dante made national TV jingles for American Airlines, Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Tang, and Gillette. As a Broadway producer he had hits with “Ain’t Misbehavin” and “Children Of A Lessor God.” In a career high, Ron sold over 60 million records as the producer and background singer of the first nine Barry Manilow albums.

This Limited 2 LP set covers all the original versions of songs that inspired the Rolling Stones on their album, “Blue & Lonesome”, along with 27 remastered originals from England’s Newest Hit Makers in the early sixties. You can hear The Stones' versions of Muddy Waters' "I Just Want To Make Love To You" and Slim Harpo's "I'm A King Bee" appeared on England's Newest Hit Makers, Chuck Berry's "Come On" on their debut single, Dale Hawkins' Susie Q" on 12 X 5, Marvin Gaye's "Hitch Hike" on Out of Our Heads and Howlin' Wolf's "Little Red Rooster" on their second no. 1 single. Howlin’ Wolf’s “Little Baby” (‘Stripped’ 1995). There’s Allen Toussaint’s “Fortune Teller” (‘Got Live If You Want It’ 1966), Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy” (‘Love You Live’ 1977), The Coasters’ “Poison Ivy” (‘No Stone Unturned’ 1970) and the closing track on the album is “You Better Move On” from southern soul singer Arthur Alexander (‘December’s Children’). …Into a Real Thing is the first record David Porter produced by himself, and it sounds like an important checkpoint in the invention of progressive R&B as a genre, an album that bent the space-time continuum around R&B and willed it into something new altogether. It’s in conversation with Isaac Hayes’ own output of the era — Hot Buttered Soul especially — but where Hayes blew up the R&B form by throwing a bomb into it, helping create funk in the process, Porter worked more firmly in R&B’s space to build something new from within. …Into a Real Thing is a six-song powerhouse that manages to cram an 11-minute cover of a garage rock hit by the guy who’d later write Hulk Hogan’s entrance song alongside gut-bucket ballads with intricate string arrangements, and metaphorical tracks that compare grocery delivery to lovemaking. Its 33 minutes feel more like a fever dream than most other collections of 33 minutes.

Wieder hat Scott Matthew eine breite Auswahl seiner persönlichen Lieblingslieder adaptiert. Hits und weniger bekannte Songs aus den verschiedensten Genres hat er dafür in seiner typisch akustischen Instrumentierung neu aufgenommen und mit seiner ergreifenden Stimme vertont. Darunter finden sich unter anderem "All The Lovers" von Kylie Minogue und "Live It Up" von Mental As Anything.

Zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum erscheint das Debüt-Album einer der erfolgreichsten Indie-Pop- Bands der 00er Jahre erstmals auch auf Vinyl. 2004 waren Schubladen noch wichtig. Popmusik war noch nicht dieses eklektizistische, sich aus universell verfügbaren, entkontextualisierten Quellen speisende Internet-Monster. Wer also beispielsweise deutschsprachigen Gitarrenpop spielte, musste sich positionieren: Bewegte man sich eher in der diskursverliebten, kopflastigen Tradition der Hamburger Schule und hoffte auf "Indie-Credibilität"? Oder wollte man Teil der immer größer werdenden Deutschpop-Industrie werden, vornehmlich repräsentiert von "female fronted" Bands wie Mia, Juli oder Silbermond (nicht zu vergessen die stets gut gelaunten Jungs von von Sportfreunde Stiller), die - mal mit eher studentisch-intellektueller Grundierung, mal mit eindeutig schlagerhafter Geste - das Gefühlige in den Focus rückten. Es gab aber auch Acts, die sich nicht entscheiden wollten. Auf der Insel hatten es die Bands der Britpop-Welle schließlich vorgemacht. Hier ging es mit cooler Haltung, jeder Menge Subversion, aber eben auch goldenen Melodien und echten "Hits" in höchste Popstar-Gefilde. Wieso nicht auch in Deutschland Anspruch, Originalität und Gefälligkeit miteinander in Einklang bringen? Hier kommen nun also Anajo ins Spiel, eine 1999 gegründete Band aus dem provinziellen Augsburg, die 2004 mit ihrem Debüt-Album "Nah bei mir" genau diesen Sprung zwischen die Stühle wagte - und dafür mit sehr viel Liebe bedacht wurde, auch wenn die Indiepolizei nicht immer einverstanden war. "Nah bei mir" ist eine durch und durch leichte Platte, die mit catchy Sounds und Melodien bisweilen gewichtige Themen verhandelt: Überwindung tiefer Trauer ("Der Vorhang geht auf"), Entfremdung ("Einmal noch schlafen"), bittere Enttäuschung ("Die Tränen sind immer noch meine") - immer aber präsentiert mit einem süffisanten Lächeln auf den Lippen. Als wahre Meister beweisen sich Anajo auf dem Album in der schwierigen Disziplin der unblöden Partysongs: Auch nach 20 Jahren überkommt einen beim Hören so skurril-absurder Feger wie "Monika Tanzband", "Honigmelone" oder "Ich hol dich hier raus" noch diese unbändige, mitreißende Freude.

SCANDAL ist eine Street-Punk-Band aus dem Süden Londons, Großbritannien, die 1998 gegründet wurde und ihre Wurzeln in der rumänischen Punkszene hat. SCANDAL wurde schnell zu einer der gefeiertsten Bands des rumänischen Undergrounds, bekannt für ihre Arbeiterklassen-Hymnen und energiegeladenen Live-Shows. Ihre mitsingbaren Refrains, die sich oft um das Punk-Leben, das Trinken und die Kameradschaft drehten, wurden legendär, und die berüchtigte Anti-Polizei-Hymne ,Patrula Suge Pula" wurde zum Schlachtruf für ihre Fans (und die Unterdrückung durch die Regierung und die Bullen). Nach einer sechsjährigen Pause gingen SCANDAL 2016 nach Großbritannien und fanden mit drei der ursprünglichen Mitglieder wieder zusammen. Dort wurden sie schnell in der Szene groß, mit vielen Festivalauftritten (wie Undercover , Obscene Extreme in der Tschechischen Republik, Exit Festival in Serbien oder Rebellion/ Blackpool) sowie der *5 Seconds To Riot Euro-Tour*. Nach ihrer Fertigstellung wurde sie zu einer Beschwörung. Aufrichtig und leidenschaftlich hat Maria McKee ganz einfach ein seligmachendes Erwachen erlebt, und in einem Crescendo der Prosa erschließt ihr neues Album "La Vita Nuova" diese Geschichte und skizziert eine bedeutsame und transformative Zeit in ihrem Leben, die vor Jahrzehnten begann, als sie in ihrem Wohnzimmer vorm Kamin mit ihrem älteren Bruder, dem verstorbenen, großen musikalischen Erneuerer Bryan MacLean, Mitbegründer der bahnbrechenden LA-Band Love, sang. Auf dem Weg dorthin war sie Leadsängerin der bahnbrechenden Americana-Band Lone Justice, veröffentlichte eine Reihe stimmungsvoller und eklektischer Solo-Platten, schrieb Chart-Hits, die die Charts toppten, und inspirierte die Hingabe einer treuen kultischen Fangemeinde, bevor sie scheinbar verschwand. Ihr letztes Studioalbum "Late December" wurde 2007 veröffentlicht, seitdem sind dreizehn Jahre vergangen. "La Vita Nuova" ist eine Hommage an Dantes Werk über die unerwiderte Liebe. Obwohl der unbewusste Impuls für die Entstehung dieses Albums darin bestand, den Schock einer der bisher größten persönlichen Herausforderungen für McKee, der Auflösung und Neuerfindung ihrer Ehe, zu verarbeiten, sind die Lieder progressiv und lyrisch dicht. Die Produktion ist orchestral und opernhaft und orientiert sich an McKees Lexikon der Ikonen - John Cale, Scott Walker und David Bowie. Es handelt sich also um ein Werk, das ein hohes Maß an Konzentration erfordert. Man muss vielleicht mehr als einmal zuhören, um sich mit der konfessionellen Erzählung zu verbinden, die im Subtext gehalten wird, und um zu verstehen, dass die "Muse", oder "Beatrice" des Albums innerhalb der Prosazeilen auch ein herzzerreißendes Phantom von McKees jüngerem, idealistischem Selbst ist. Und eine Metapher für die Jugend im Allgemeinen. Das spiegelt sich in den eindringlichen, kaskadenartigen melodischen Klängen der Joni Mitchell, die "I Should Have Looked Away" andeuten, und in der ergreifenden, nostalgischen Wehmut des Titels "Effigy of Salt" wider. McKee ist inzwischen nach London umgezogen. Die Orchesterarrangements des Albums wurden von McKee komponiert und arrangiert, die keine formale klassische Ausbildung hat und keine einzige Note liest. Aber genau das ist die Natur der kreativen Katharsis, die im Allgemeinen mit einem eigenen Willen arbeitet.

ABOUT THE SOULETTES:
The Soulettes initially comprised Alpharita Anderson, born in Cuba, her male cousin Constantine Walker and her school friend Marlene Gifford and started recording as backing vocalists at Studio One from 1964 including the first Wailing Wailers’ hit “Simmer Down”. They also backed Lee Perry on a series of dirty songs such as ‘Rub & Squeeze’ and ‘Doctor Dick’. Under their own name The Soulettes were moderately successful have a string of minor hits such as ‘Opportunity Knocks’ and the lovely ‘Friends And Lovers’. Alpharita married Marley in in 1966 and the Soulettes disbanded. In 1969, Rita Marley re-formed the Soulettes with Nora Dean (later replaced by Hortense Lewis) and Cecile Campbell, Cornel’s sister.
The new line-up with Nora Dean and Cecile Cornell started working Lee Scratch Perry for a couple of songs including the outstanding cover of the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ which became their main hit in 1970. Following the group’s demise around 1973, Rita joined Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt to form the I-Threes whom became the de facto female backing trio for Bob Marley…

Courtesy Of Balance is the tasteful house label run by Brawther and it was back in 2019 in Lviv during an underground warehouse party that he first made contact with Laconica label founders Ocean and Sasha Pervukhin. They all hit it off and so were invited to showcase the deeper side of the house sounds of Western Ukraine, and the results make up this new EP with the artists taking one side each. Ocean T's opener is a psychedelic, trance-infused cosmic trip while 'What If' rides on crisp beats with some lush dubbed-out synths. On the flip, Pervukhin's 'I Hate This DJ' is balmy, heady deep house from up amongst the stars and 'TR 18 Blues' is a nice kinetic, lithe minimal house cut.

Next up on Funnuvojere Records is label boss Massimiliano Pagliara’s highly anticipated ‘Hooking Up’ EP. Featuring four distinct club belters, each one is crafted to suit different moments of the party. The new EP once again truly showcases Massi’s deep understanding of the dancefloor.

The title track, ‘Hooking Up’, is a cosmic pop song infused with Chicago house influences, embodying Pagliara’s signature style at its best. The track is a journey through lush melodies and infectious rhythms, capturing the essence of Pagliara’s sound and setting the tone for the rest of the EP.

‘Last Kiss (On Acid)’, is a pulsating acidic banger designed for late-night parties where the energy is high, and the walls are dripping with sweat. ‘Fave Rave’ is characterised by its dirty bass line that conjures the foggy, intimate atmosphere of a packed dance floor.

Closing the EP is ‘Poseidon’s Dream’, a cheeky Italo disco hit that brings a playful, nostalgic, but no less energetic finish to the release. With its catchy melodies and upbeat tempo, the track is the perfect way to end the night on a high.

Drawing inspiration from David Hockney (a favourite artist of Pagliara), French artist Grav Jonz crafted the beautiful artwork. Hockney’s influence permeates not only the artwork but also serves as the muse for the entire EP, weaving his unique artistic spirit throughout.
