RAWAX proudly welcomes Mr. Gari Romalis to the family!

Gari Romalis is at the forefront on the techno scene in Detroit, working with labels such as Tresor, Soma Records, Terrence Parker's Intangible label, Mike Banks' Happy Soul Records, Reggie Dokes' Psychostasia label and Cliff Thomas' D-Bass Records.

Gari has been djing for over 30 years and has played at Detroit's most infamous underground club, the "Music Institute", along with traveling overseas spinning at Tresor in Germany.

Gari has worked for Transmat Records as well as managing Detroit's famous Buy Rite Records. Gari is single handedly responsible for training and influencing some of Detroit's most famous DJ's and producers. Gari heads also the Butch Strange Group, LLC, which houses several labels under his direction. He's back in 2012 with 'The Last Man Satnding EP'.

TERRANOVA returns to the fore with the HEADACHE EP, another impressive assortment of floor-ready house weaponry - after the sublime sophistication of the PAINKILLER EP (KOMPAKT 262) and its accompanying remixes (FM X/PAIN 001), the new material shoves the pendulum back into more rugged club territory, showcasing the sort of sonic urgency and rawness the legendary project has become known for in the first place.

As missing links between the dystopian pop of TERRANOVA's turn-of-the-century work and the slick kinetic drama of their current incarnation on Kompakt, the three cuts of the HEADACHE EP congenially continue the multi-layered, nifty thrust of 2012's house nouveau epic HOTEL AMOUR (KOMPAKT 248 CD 95), but also manage to evoke the wonderstruck immediacy of an act burning through its first speakers. This becomes particularly manifest with the deployment of CATH COFFEY as vocalist for title track HEADACHE (also a primer for TERRANOVA's upcoming full-length). A member of iconic British rap outfit Stereo MCs in the early 90s and collaborator of Tricky, the singer was featured on TERRANOVA's initial outings and is a well-established presence in their early work. On the new 12", she reintroduces her unique brand of battle-hardened, deadpan soulfulness to the searing funk of the reinvigorated project.

HEADACHE, a cover of a song from Birmingham's iconic and controversial postpunk outfit The Au Pairs, as well as its instrumental sequel HEADLOCK are both fuelled by the propulsive beats and upscale hooks we've grown to expect from TERRANOVA, but there seems to be something else at work, too - a somewhat darker undercurrent that may or may not be part of the actual arrangement. In any case, this adds much-needed depth to today's dance floors, providing them with a riveting soundtrack for the most intense of prime times. There's no need for EP closer TOURETTE to hide behind its compatriots, either: it's a full-blown thrill ride in its own right, brimming with jittery sampling, arresting percussion and some pretty rad bassline abrasiveness thrown in for good measure. A well-placed shot at the dancer's solar plexus, this wraps up the HEADACHE EP nicely, giving players and punters another perfectly valid reason for post-apocalyptic celebration.

Die beiden Jungs von Audision melden sich wieder zurück und ihr nächstes Release kann sich durchaus sehen (farbiges Vinyl) und hören lassen. "Chimes 1" wurde für ihr Live-Set produziert und hat somit bereits Reaktionen direkt von den Dancefloors einfangen können. Kristallklar klingen die Bells des neu im Studio integrierten Roland JD 800 und schwingen magisch im Raum. In der Vorbereitung für ihr Live-Set im letzten Jahr in Frankfurt waren noch nicht alle Maschinen auf Ursprungszustand gestellt und plötzlich meldete sich der JD 800 mit einem neuen Sound auf einer alten Soundbank. Die Maschine einfach sprechen lassen, ist ihr Motto von Beginn an und so wurde sofort die Record Taste gedrückt und es entstand "Chimes 2".

"Away" war der beatlose Track der letzten Erfolgs Single "Up & Away" (2012). Kein geringerer als Gez Varley aka G-Man machte daraus ein Tech-House Dancefloor Monster vom Herrn. Als Mitbegründer der legendären Kombo LFO (Warp Records) schrieb er zusammen mit Mark Bell Musikgeschichte. Als G-Man glänzte er als Solokünstler auf Labels wie Wir, i220, Force Inc. und nicht zuletzt Swim, auf dem er mit "Quo Vadis" die Clubs in den 90ern weltweit aufmischte.

Nicht weit entfernt saß im letzten Jahr noch Christiopher Rau. Der Tausendsassa ist in der Zwischenzeit von Hamburg nach Berlin gezogen, konnte aber vorher noch einen Remix beisteuern. Der Typisch, rohe aber immer deepe und warme House Sound aus den Kreisen der Smallville Familie, rundet die 12inch perfekt ab. Wir meinen ein Must-Have!

As with their first various artist compilation EP, Let's Play House has chosen to grab tracks from a handful of artists both new and old to the label and party. Portuguese duo Johnwaynes released the I Can See EP on the imprint in July of 2012 and Belgium's Mugwump has been part of the company's NYC party stable since 2010. The newcomers here—montel and Last Waltz—are obvious shoe-ins for inclusion in the roster.

As with the last V/A, this one tells a cohesive aural story. montel kicks the thing off with a no-nonsense jackin' house boogie, underscored by a slightly-out-of-tune and elastic bass that infects your whole body. Johnwaynes darkens the mood a bit without loosing montel's sense of urgency. The track throbs forward with the assistance of another thick bass, scattered synth ditties, herky-jerky hats, and breathy overlaid effects, giving it a cavernous vibe.

Brussels-based troublemakers Mugwump start the flip with a tune that seamlessly fits into their cannon—it sounds so familiar that it's hard to believe it's only just come out. As always, the duo's foundation is a choppy, hook-laden bass that's wrapped in playful synth lines, water-submerged effects, and big drums suitable for the largest of rock stadiums. Then Last Waltz wraps the whole affair up with their own melodious house boogie. As with the A2, theirs is more somber and spooky, yet just as catchy and addictive as the brighter montel and Mugwump songs. Imagine this EP as a miniature rendering of one of LPH's warehouse parties: it's big, bold, and lots of fun, while still having an obvious sense of a buildup, peak, and comedown.

Olmec Save Us is the new single by R&B powerhouse Donnie. Donnie's powerful words will take you on a journey that spans from the origins of mankind to modern times. Olmec Save Us was featured on Defected Presents Osunlade In the House in 2012. Now released as a single on vinyl- with mixes from Kai Alce, Osunlade and instrumentals of both versions!

Alex Niggemann's 2012-defining long player 'Paranoid Funk' dropped in June to a rapturous response from DJs, dancers and home listeners alike. Here, Poker Flat Recordings revisits some of the exceptional highlights of that record, and deliver a remix package sure to be as equally sought-after by those in the know. 'Paranoid Funk' saw the Berlin resident explore a variety of grooves and textures, an experiment that won him many new admirers and a great deal of critical acclaim. Here, some of the hottest remix talent in the scene get their hands on the originals and twist them into new shapes. Following on from releases on Cocoon, Kling Klong, Circle and two strong EPs on Poker Flat ("Dinosaurs' and 'This") renowned producers Alex Flatner and LOPAZZ take on 'Don't Wait' and drop a growling, main room monster that will standout in any set. Francys, the young Italian making quiet a name for himself on the underground house and techno circuit, lends his skills to 'Back 2 Basics feat. Benji' - channeling the spirit of the early 90s into seven ecstatic minutes. Next up is Salvatore Freda - the highly respected Swiss DJ and producer who injects Niggemann's 'I Don't Care' with a narcotic groove that sits somewhere between Detroit and Berlin - the dubbed out vocals adding an element of otherworldliness that work in perfect compliment to the track's twisted (paranoid) funk. Berlin's own Andre Lodemann picks out 'Lovers' for his excursion, a deep bomb that grows and grows around an exceptional vocal from John Rydell - this is one for the very late nights or early mornings. What is clear from this release is that Alex Niggemann's star continues to rise - the classical pianist turned producer and DJ extraordinaire is moving on to the next phase of his career - and with the slew of outstanding releases to his name already, who is to say where that could lead. Following up his EP 'String Theory' on Simple, Julian 'October' Smith has teamed up with label head Will Saul, for 'Light Sleeper', Aus Music's final release of 2012. The EP comes with a remix from Kompakt boss Michael Mayer. Jules & Will met last year when Will relocated to Somerset and they seemed to click instantly in the studio. A natural division of labour emerged which proved to be both effective and fun whilst also playing to both's strengths. Jules mans the drum machines and outboard FX and Will controls the synths....they hit record and see what happens. Look out for another 12 from them in Feb next year with a remix from Fred P. October's profile has been steadily rising since the launch of his first label, Caravan Records in 2007. In the last few years, his brand of off-kilter house and techno has also appeared on Skudge, Misericord, Jack Off and Applepips, and been championed by the likes of Ewan Pearson, Skudge and Appleblim. Smith's label 'TANSTAAFL', has been widely praised by the music press, and sets the course forv more of the jacking dancefloor house and techno he is known for. This year Will Saul revealed he was behind Close, a project he's created as a vehicle for his forthcoming album 'Getting Closer' and a A/V show which will feature Will on various machines and Al Tourettes on drums all backed with lovingly crafted visuals created & mixed by Silent Studios. The A/V show debuts at Fabric on the 23rd February and the album will be released in May 2013 on !K7 and features vocals from Joe Dukie of Fat Freddies Drop, Peacefrog artist Charlene Soraia and Paul 'Tikiman' St.Hillaire as well as collaborations with Scuba, Appleblim, Ewan Pearson, and of course October. In the eight years since Michael Mayer released his debut album 'Touch', he's maintained a tightly packed schedule of DJ gigs and remixes.

Mario & Vidis, the top Lithuanian House duo, is back with a real treat. A solid remix package to follow up the original release of their perfect-set-closing track of summer 2012. Even though all ticking at the same tempo four different remixes and remixers on the plate represent a wide spectrum of moods and styles. From Garage and Bass infected sounds of up and coming Lithuanian producer Darius Vaikas, via Miami Bass rooted Dub version of steady groovin' American Danny Daze, to golden French Touch era reminiscent slick grooves of German combo Trickski, and summery New Disco vibes of two Lithuanian comrades from Downtown Party Network.

DVA started off Hyperdub's barrage of albums in 2012 with his brilliant 'Pretty Ugly', and now closes the the year with the 'Fly Juice' EP's bumper selection of machine tooled tracks, each created for optimum dancefloor damage and road tested by DVA, Kode9 and a select bunch of DJs. These four tracks are a brilliant example of what he's been describing as 'power house' for a while, a colourful chunky techno sound that switches up every 8 bars like grime and has plenty of shuffle and offbeat swing as a counterpoint to the 4/4 drums. 'Fly Juice' opens with sweet jazz funk Rhodes before dropping into weightless bouncey chopped vocals and stuttering drums building through 8 bar patterns - with the Rhodes as a sweetner, it's bliss! 'Do It' runs a stuttering voice, a huge deep bassline and relentless building stabs against shuffling drums. On 'Walk it Out', the repetition of the title over a pummelling two note melody is positively dumb, but pitched against swirling effects and whooshing chords the effect is epic. 'Long Street' features a collaboration with South African producer Big Space, and echoes the sound of early UK bleep and bass with a stern melody, breaking down into swirling Detroit-like chords, while shuffling along on a crisp, scissoring rhythm. After the sweet and sour songfulness of his album 'Pretty Ugly', the 'Fly Juice' EP shows DVA returning to his dancefloor roots. As an amazing DJ/producer, you can expect more of this in 2013.

Brighton's Dismantle second single with Wheel and Deal once again delivering his multi genre club smashing sounds.Destroy: Destory is the angry big brother of his first Single Computation & Word Dance! Dismantle delivers the goods again with his bouncing Electro / crack house step. The bit crushed vocal 'Destroy' breaks the epic build to a monster drop that gets every dance floor screaming for the wheelers! This track has been smashing it worldwide with support from N-Type, Hatcha, Mistajam, Shy Fx, Hizzle guy & Kutz to name a few.Computation VIP: The previously unreleased Dubplate! This wasn't going to see the light of day! A staple in the bag of N-Type, MistaJam, Hatcha, Soap Dodgers, Benton, Walsh & The Others! A sick little rework of the original track that launched Dismantle in to the limelight last year. Dismantle is join from strength to strength, and is a force to be reckoned with in 2012.

Amplified cointinues their quest to find new and interesting talents out there. Disco In Distress pt. 3 again is an amazing collection of slow house and disco. Quell comes with a slow house joint that even has some Techno elements: rough beats and tough stab and synth work. S3A (Sampling as an Art) has had an excellent release called Continuation early 2012 and serves you with another killer discofied house tune Holdin' On here. Russian newcomer Kirill delivers the breathtaking house cut Feel The Broken Line. Last but not least Sellouts does what he does best: slow-mo-spaced-out-disco in She Knows. Tip!

Leisure System, the collective, label and famed Berghain club night of four years standing, is back with their third release from co-founder and resident, Sam Barker. Known for its genre-defiant lineups, Leisure System's quarterly residency has consistently brought together artists with varying styles. Flying Lotus, Autechre, Afrika Hitech, Jackmaster, Surgeon, Jimmy Edgar, Blawan, 808 State, Dopplereffekt, Clark, Machinedrum, Surgeon, Venetian Snares, Objekt and Egyptian Lover have all graced the decks, showing off the collective's commitment to the exploration of new and experimental sounds in EDM. The development of the label, and now this release from Barker, is no exception. After discovering computers and raves in the late '90s, Barker began making tracks at age 13, building up a sizable collection of vintage analogue synths, paving the way for his future solo work and collaborations with artists like Tim Exile, Clark, Shitmat, Scotch Egg, The Field, Leafcutter John and Jimmy Edgar. Shortly after his 2007 move to Berlin, Barker began collaborating with fellow Berghain resident nd_baumecker, resulting in their ongoing project Barker & Baumecker. Their first EP 'Candyflip', was released on Ostgut Ton in 2010, followed up by a live show tour throughout Europe. The duo is currently readying their second EP and have a long player due out in August 2012. For this new solo EP, mastered by electronic music legend Pole, Barker presents a creative three-track lesson in diversity and highlights Leisure System's ever-evolving aural curiosity. The opener and title track 'Like An Animal' is a number that builds and builds, quickly changing course and mutating into a percussive and texturized melting pot of sounds. Up next the hypnotic 'I Feel', which is filled with moody pads and syncopated breakbeat rhythms, paving the way for the mechanical, yet smooth half-step rhythm of 'Hot Lover'. Siimilar to the collective, this offering pushes boundaries and mirrors the progressive ideals of the collective. Just like Leisure System's first two 12's from Pixelord and Eprom in 2011, Barker's 'Like An Animal' EP is a clear statement of the label's simple and distinct commitment : to be a platform for timeless, thrilling and soulful dance music in the fields of house, techno and electronica, disregarding media hype and genre borders. In keeping with this clear sonic manifesto, Leisure System's design aesthetic is equally individual, with all vinyl releases housed in deluxe die-cut jackets.

Here we are with the first Curle of 2012, after a lengthy but refreshing hibernation. To wake up slowly but surely, we picked out these two fine dubby techno tunes. The A-side is kinda housey even. Man at work is Resoe from Copenhagen, a fixture on the Danish Echocord label. He is also a part of Pattern Repeat and runs his own Baum imprint. We will release this one on limited transparent green & white mixed vinyl.
