It's been 40 years since these tracks were recorded, but all the original studio and live recordings by Times Beach are finally available on CD & LP Times Beach came together in 1983 with a core of active members from San Francisco's vibrant theatre community. That background propelled the band to a kind of stage glamour that wasn't much seen during the era of post- punk, industrial, and goth music. They were striking to see and hear, with the songs to match. But, like so many excellent bands of the era, they suffered from the "home town curse" since they were not from New York or Los Angeles – but San Francisco. Over the course of two years, Times Beach performed throughout the Bay Area, playing most of the major (and minor) clubs such as The Stone, Baybrick Inn, Cotati Cabaret, Berkeley Square, Sound Of Music, Trocadero Transfer, Ashkenaz, Ruthie's Inn, Sleeping Lady Café, and the beloved Chi Chi Club. They had a legion of dedicated supporters, and many of their shows were real party events. When it came time to record, they accepted an invitation from the illustrious Snakefinger (aka Philip Lithman) and Eric Drew Feldman to produce them at Russian Hill Studio. The first part of their story ends just about there, as they never made enough money to actually produce the album from the recordings. And the various members started drifting off. The final public gig was like their first, at the Mabuhay Gardens, in November 1984. Side One of this LP is comprised of those glorious Snakefinger sessions. Side Two presents just a few of the other great songs they wrote and performed live – never captured in any other form. For fans of Jefferson Airplane, Mutants, Nuns.

For 14 years Throat have been the sonic equivalent of forcing a square peg into a round hole; often abrasive, causing utmost irritation at times and on a rare occasion a feverishly pleasant dose of brooding darkness in one's otherwise dull existence. The peg now fits. We Must Leave You sees Throat dropping pegs of all shape and size through the same hole. The last confines of musical genres are behind them, resulting in an album which can be regarded as the easiest listening Throat has ever presented or simultaneously their most difficult and puzzling work to date. Thematically what we have here is a breakup album. Never ones for thinking small, Throat breaks up with the world. Enough is enough. Bring back lockdown. No need for petty social commentary on how the world is burning. Let it burn. Throat is already walking away and it remains to be seen where they end up next. If anywhere. Breakups always require dramatic music and We Must Leave You more than fits the purpose. Throat have already hinted at new directions and new sounds on their previous two albums, but here it all breaks loose. Rooted in the same heavy, dark rock sound as always, but a touch of gothic drama from the 80s has been injected to the band's sonic palette which obviously means a few deeper shades of black. The noise and dissonance remains, but this time it all has been dipped in honey and black grease paint. We Must Leave You was written over a few years time and finally recorded in 2023 at Tonehaven Recording Studio with Tom Brooke and the band's own Amplified Human Audio. Edinburgh (via Bristol) producer, DJ and balearic psychonaut takes us on a playful exploration through his cosmic arboretum on the Memory of Stolen Bush EP, with four of his own tracks and a very tasty remix from Berlin’s Glenn Astro. Café Lotito draws us into a world of atmospheric chug with dreamy whistles, rich, saturated pads and sneaky acid lines sitting atop a tasteful break and a steady, thudding kick. Gottlieb's Lament drops the tempo further, into a shimmering, melancholic lagoon of dubby psychedel ia, with marimbas and melodicas dancing amongst the mournful, lysergic synth work.
The B side steps straight into the dance with the EP’s namesake In The Shadow Of The Oleander, a pulsing, acidic drum machine workout, bustling with percs and bleeps and cru nchy rhythms, all set to a backdrop of soaring pads and drifting harmonics. Glenn Astro’s remix of Oleander pumps things up into an epic, maximalist realm with huge synth lines and a squarely pounding rhythm section turning the playful roller into a peak ti me thumper. Finally the digital bonus track Memories of Hare uses surrealist snippets of colour to pay tribute to a much missed former Bristol haunt, dropping the tempo back down and putting melody and atmosphere front and centre, with a ghostly marimba l eading the procession beside staccato guitars and shimmering synths unknown

In addition to boasting one of Reid Miles’ greatest album cover designs, Hank Mobley’s 1963 album No Room for Squares is a marvel for the music alone. Standing as one of the tenor saxophonist’s finest Blue Note entries the album features two different quintet line-ups performing a set of 6 compelling original tunes by Mobley and Lee Morgan. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

The first two minutes of Sun June’s third album, Bad Dream Jag-uar, is a reverie - Laura Colwell’s voice floats above a slow-burn,sparse synth, conjuring a tipsy loneliness, a hazy recollection, a disco ball spinning at the end of the night for an empty dancefloor. Performance, honing and refining a talent she has nurtured since childhood.
Since then, she has amassed the kind of following that even the guitar gods she
grew up idolizing would be envious of, with a reach surpassing 3 million followers
across her social channels, built through a steady stream of sharing her talent via
guitar "shredleys", covers and her own original material.
In addition to her own content, Sophie's talent and popularity has led to
collaborations with brands such as Amazon Prime, Hard Rock Cafe, LiveNation
and Harley Davidson, her own Guitar course on Truefire and a stunning
performance at Paris Fashion Week for Redemption Brand Clothing.
She has also released her own signature guitar, becoming the first female artist to
do so for exclusive Californian Guitar maker KIESEL.
Most recently, Sophie could be seen shredding on stage as guitarist for multiplatinum recording artist Machine Gun Kelly on his recent Mainstream Sellout
World Tour, which included sold out shows at legendary venues such Madison
Square Garden in New York and Wembley Arena in London.

Following a standout contribution to the ‘Elevate’ compilation, Mha Iri steps up for her Drumcode EP debut. Continuing Scotland’s grand techno tradition, the Edinburgh-based DJ/producer is one of 2023 breakout artists.

‘Never Go Back to Sleep’ marked her exhilarating maiden offering on Adam Beyer’s label back in March, with the cut spending a mighty two months in Beatport’s techno chart after peaking at no.4, putting her square on the radar of the Drumcode faithful in the process.

Her debut EP on the label, is a tantalising prospect. ‘The Unexpected’ plays with her trademark light and dark motifs, mixing up sharp percussive elements with ethereal melodies, before a ripping bass drop takes the energy up a notch. ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ is a slick accompaniment, as atmospheric techno gets supercharged via a punchy rap vocal and laser-kissed chords. Both tracks were highlights of Mha Iri’s memorable set at Rave The Planet, attended by 300K people in Berlin.

Following a triumphant performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden on 26th September 1998, Prince and his New Power Soul Festival band and friends party into the wee hours at Tramps before an intimate club audience.

Iconic funk bassist Larry Graham and saxophonist Jerry Martini are also on board, and Chaka Kahn and rapper Doug E Fresh also join in on the fun. The entire after show was recorded by a local radio station and broadcast live across New York City, and it is this transmission that provides the recording featured on this double LP set, making this quite unique event available on vinyl for the first time.

For his debut solo release on Not An Animal, label co-pilot Andy Bainbridge serves up a raw, late-night house dub, accompanied by sizzling remixes from Donald’s House & Komodo for good measure.

Up Too Much starts simply, evoking house classics of old. Dubby percussion sets the genre but don’t be fooled, the Buchla synth wobbles that form the track’s melody, delicately placed acid sprinkles and a vocal garnish A-typical to the host label bring the track squarely into the modern day to form a tough yet gentle roller.

Next off the pass is the Donald’s House remix, finely weaving the essence of the original mix into a proggy sidewinder, highlighting the acid arps previously lurking in the background and slowly melting the track into a delicious trancey mess.

Meanwhile Komodo kicks things off in a classic Chicago style; claps, stabs and all, with vocal samples adding that extra texture for the knockout punch.

Dolly Parton's, A Holly Dolly Christmas, features special guest performances from Michael Bublé, Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon and her brother Randy Parton. The limited-edition LP is pressed on silver vinyl.

Colombian producer Faunes Efe known under his moniker Filmmaker, is one of the most productive and vital producers in the EBM, Industrial, Synth-wave and Electro community. He has quickly built a cult following amongst those with an affinity for dystopian electronics drenched in seductive darkness.

After more than 20 records within a 5 year span, Filmmaker keeps running engines with “Machinations”, a mini-album containing 7 cuts that blast a mechanical blend of Electroclash and Minimal Synth. This ride of prominent square waves, robotic beats and detuned atmospheres is born from mainly two instruments: a Syntakt & a processed guitar.

Having been brought up as much on albums as singles, it is a natural progression for Kent to make a 12' version of our 'Masterpieces Of Modern Soul' CD series. The Modern soul fan is used to wielding 12' of plastic in various forms and our latest Kent LP is aimed squarely at them.

We have lifted a fantastic LP-only track from theSpring album by Act 1, 'It's The Same Old Story', one of the most catchy, melodious songs of the era and as a Ray Godfrey Spring production it is high quality. The same source provides the Millie Jackson LP track 'If That Don't Turn You On'; inevitably raunchy - but clean!

The Mayberry Movement were on sister label Event and we have their smooth and addictive 'Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right', unreleased until Kent issued it. On the pricey side we feature Eddie Billups' anthem 'Shake Off That Dream'. Scarce is more the word for Gail Anderson's Doré release 'Just A Little Ugly' which is anything but and stablemates Natural Resources have a recently discovered find, 'If There Were No You': it would have been the buzz of the Mecca a few decades earlier. Into the 80s we go with a 60s legend: Dave Hamilton, whose later recordings are proving to be as highly admired as his tracks from the golden era of 60s soul. Nightchill's 'I Don't Play Games' sounds like a hit to me and the New Experience's pleading 'I've Never Felt This Way Before' is one for those who like to sympathise with a bit of anguish. Darondo provides another gem of west coast soul from his own special perspective.

The Hesitations' GWP recording is as polished and professional as ever and there is more top harmony from Street People with a previously unissued track from their first recording session.

There had to be a teaser. After reissuing Herman Davis' 'Gotta Be Loved' we discovered a brilliant unissued Part 2 to the highly collectable single. It had been abandoned before the 45s' pressing but now rounds off an LP that will grace those large and overburdened LP shelves of the modern soul Kent fans.
