Wie die Zeit vergeht: 2013 - vor zehn Jahren - brachte Gregory Porter mit ”Liquid Spirit” sein Blue-NoteDebütalbum heraus, sein insgesamt drittes Album, mit dem er einen weltweiten Durchbruch feierte.
”Liquid Spirit” gewann den Grammy Award 2014 für das beste Jazz-Vokalalbum und der “sanfte Koloss”, wie ihn Spiegel-Online nannte, etablierte sich endgültig als eine der ganz großen männlichen Stimmen des Jazz. Das Album erreiche Platinstatus in Deutschland und Großbritannien, Gold in Frankreich, den Niederlanden und Österreich - inzwischen wurde es weltweit über eine Million Mal verkauft.

Für Gregory-Porter- und Vinyl-Fans präsentiert Blue Note jetzt anlässlich des 10-jährigen Jubiläums eine limitierte Vinyl-Edition, die das Originalalbum auf 2 LPs plus eine Bonus-LP mit Zusatztracks und Remixen enthält, von denen 5 Stücke zum ersten Mal auf Vinyl erscheinen.

Der Titel von Wayne Shorters elftem Blue-Note-Album kam nicht von ungefähr. Denn auf “Schizophrenia” begab sich der Saxofonist 1967 mit einem All-Star-Sextett auf eine atemberaubende Gratwandlung. “Diese Musik bewegt sich an der Grenze zwischen Post-Bop und Free-Jazz”, meinte Stephen Thomas Erlewine auf AllMusic, “sie wurzelt im Post-Bop, weiß aber, was auf der anderen Seite der Grenze vor sich geht.

Ein paar Jahre später sollte Shorter diese Grenze überschreiten, aber ‘Schizophrenia’ knistert vor Spannung, weil er und seine Kollegen versuchen, die beiden Extreme auszubalancieren.”

Der aus Kansas City stammende dynamische Hammond-B3-Organist Big John Patton spielte in den 1960er Jahren eine Reihe von exzellenten Soul-Jazz-Alben für Blue Note ein. Meist war er auf ihnen in der Standard-Besetzung mit Orgel, Gitarre und Schlagzeug sowie Verstärkung durch Bläser zu hören. Von diesem Schema wich er erst 1965 auf dem grandiosen Album “Let ‘Em Roll” ab, auf dem er mit Bobby Hutcherson zusammenarbeitete. Der Vibraphonist ergreift hier die Gelegenheit, um Pattons Musik mehr Tiefe und Struktur sowie einen moderneren Dreh zu verleihen.

Out Of The Blue is the debut studio album by Debbie Gibson and was released on August 18, 1987. The album received favorable reviews from music critics and sold more than five million copies worldwide.

Trents body of work -Raw Footage- is also particularly scary genius material, although still of totally solid stress field and background from the musical spectrum between the Windy City and the Motor City engine bridled her.-But heres to the Future- For Sir Trent more than twenty years after -Altered States- and the relevant follow-ups, thats not really a problem!

Wer sich je
eigentlich gefragt hat , welcher House-Sound so für eine Reise durch die endlosen Weiten des Universums angemessen sein könnte, kommt an dieser Stelle jetzt völlig(st) auf seine Kosten. Trent 2012 und seine Tracks reflektieren mit diesem Album zwar viel von dem revolutionären Gründerspirit einer Musik aus der Mitte der 80er-Jahre, die damals wie heute dennoch nur unzureichend mit Slogans wie ihrer Zeit um Lichtjahre voraus zu erfassen ist. Denn wie Trents Gesamtwerk ist eben auch :Raw Footage: insbesondere furchteinflößend genialer Stoff, wenngleich auch immer noch vom ganz und gar soliden Spannungsfeld und Background des musikalischen Spektrums zwischen der Windy und der Motor City her aufgezäumt. :But here's to the future: - Für Trent auch mehr als zwanzig Jahre nach :Altered States: und den einschlägigen follow-ups nicht wirklich ein Problem!

Drummer and composer Tony Williams’ adventurous 1965 album Spring—his second as a leader for Blue Note—found him convening a stellar line-up with saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Sam Rivers, pianist Herbie Hancock, and bassist Gary Peacock. The five Williams originals presented here offer the musicians spacious realms in which to go exploring.

The intrepid free jazz pianist Cecil Taylor made his Blue Note debut with the explosive 1966 album Unit Structures featuring trumpeter Eddie Gale, saxophonists Jimmy Lyons and Ken McIntyre, bassists Henry Grimes and Alan Silva, and drummer Andrew Cyrille. To mark the 65th anniversary of the album’s recording, Blue Train will be released in two special editions on September 16 as part of Blue Note’s acclaimed Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series. A 1-LP mono pressing of the original album will be presented in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket, while the 2-LP stereo collection Blue Train: The Complete Masters will include a second disc featuring seven alternate and incomplete takes, none of which have been released previously on vinyl, and four of which have never been released before on any format. The Complete Masters comes with a booklet featuring never-before-seen session photos by Francis Wolff and an essay by Coltrane expert Ashley Kahn. Both Tone Poet Vinyl Editions were produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI. Charlie Hunter’s 1995 Blue Note debut Bing Bing Bing! was a groove-heavy tour-de-force that announced the arrival of a virtuosic new guitarist on the scene. Hunter’s unique concept on his 8-string guitar allowed him to lay down a bass line and play chords as well as a melodic line at the same time, producing music that was at once impressive and irrepressible. With his powerful trio featuring tenor saxophonist Dave Ellis and drummer Jay Lane plus contributions from trombonist Jeff Cressman, Ben Goldberg, pedal steel guitarist David Phillips, and percussionist Scott Roberts, Hunter delivered a 10-song set of propulsive originals including “Greasy Granny” and “Fistful of Haggis” plus an unforgettable cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” Hunter would go on to record six more excellent albums for Blue Note, and also gain notice for playing on D’Angelo’s 2000 neo-soul masterpiece Voodoo.
