Pharoah “Farrell” Sanders was a leading figure in the world of jazz and his tenor saxophone playing earned him a legendary status among jazz circles.

This 2LP compilation Welcome To Love features the master saxophonist playing straight-up jazz ballads and includes the bonus track “Moonlight In Vermont”. Sanders is accompanied by William Henderson on piano, Stafford James on bass and Eccleston W. Wainwright on drums.

LA-based composer/arranger E. Lundquist (aka Eric Borders) returns with ‘Art Between Minds’. Having cut his teeth in the LA hip-hop and beats scene and explored realms of cosmic-funk under previous monikers, E. Lundquist’s music displays a rich tapestry of influences including the cinematic & experimental jazz-infused library music that influenced his previous LP ‘Multiple Images’. Now he is back with another ample helping of his hallucinogenic sonics, utilizing a bevy of vintage gear to replicate that warm glow of ’70s jazz-funk. From the Fender Rhodes MKI to the ARP Odyssey, to the Mellotron, the keys and synths he employs on these tracks display a genuine appreciation for the groove-driven music of The ‘Me” Decade.

The album plays like the score to a cult classic B-movie. The sun-drenched haze of “Soliloquy” could easily be what you hear during the calm before the storm in a Blaxploitation flick and the laidback crawl of “Euphoria” seems ripped right out of a fuzzy ‘70s blue movie. But there is a certain sophistication here, like the way the horn section, slinky guitar, and trippy synths combine on “Escape” to sound like liquid one moment and like a summer breeze the next.

While E. Lundquist’s artistry will eventually take him to new plateaus of sound, where he is right now is undoubtedly a high watermark in his career. He has become a torchbearer for jazz-funk in a new jazz revolution, updating the sub-genre with his delicate balance of digital and analog elements that will easily appeal to fans of Kamaal Williams, Surprise Chef, BADBADNOTGOOD, Khurangbin, Robohands and similar.

The rediscovery of Terry Callier is of the high points of in the history of Acid Jazz Records, who present the reissue of the 7” version of the song that started it all - ‘I Don’t Want To See Myself (Without You)’. A true classic of the modern soul scene.

‘I Don’t Want To See Myself…’ was the final release from Callier, whose career encompassed recording for Prestige, Chess’s Cadet label and Elektra, before this one- off single on the independent Erect label.

Despite the record fetching huge sums by the 1990s, his career had been largely unexplored, until Acid Jazz founder Eddie Piller decided to track him down. After several attempts, Eddie finally found him working as a computer programmer, and in July 1990 Acid Jazz reissued the single.

Over the next decade Terry resumed his recording and performing career, releasing new music, and was finally recognised for his brilliance as an artist. In 2006 Eddie found himself once more in conversation with Terry and they agreed on releasing a 7-inch version of the single, with an edit created by Andy Lewis.

This single is long since deleted, and now sells for upwards of £30, so with the full co-operation of his daughter Sundiata and licensed from Terry Callier Music, it is set for reissue in March 2025, backed with ‘If I Could Make You’.

Soul Media, led by Jiro Inagaki, played a part in the development of jazz rock in Japan. This work, "Memory Lane" recorded in 1980, was the final work under the same name. Inagaki said about this work, "We tried to create this work while predicting the fate of fusion music" and it is true that the sound is completely different from ordinary fusion. The mellow and emotional "Memory Lane" the stormy and refreshing "I Will Give You Samba" and the groovy and edgy "Take My Hand". The sound that was created with his ally Norio Maeda, which looks , is of an extraordinary level of perfection in the songs, arrangements, and performances. It is a masterpiece that is still vivid and fresh when listened to today.

Together they created their Chiron EP, an important chapter on Outis, bringing Sabatini’s immersive hypno grooves and the captivating sonorities of Cascella together. The duo explores mythological and archetypal themes, intertwining the intensity of mental techno with dark and transcendental atmospheres.

The mighty Ron Sexsmith, will release his wonderful new album Hangover Terrace. Ron is one of Canada"s most accomplished singer-songwriters. He has collaborated with Daniel Lanois, Mitchell Froom, Ane Brun, Tchad Blake, and Bob Rock. His songwriting appears on albums from Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris and Feist. Film-maker Doug Arrowsmith made an acclaimed documentary about Ron in 2010 called "Love Shines". In 2017 Ron published his first book, a fairy tale entitled "Deer Life".

Das zweite Album von Runnner, A Welcome Kind of Weakness, entstand aus einem gleichzeitigen Riss im Körper und im Leben des Songwriters Noah Weinman. Während der Monate, die er im Bett verbrachte, um sich von einem Achillessehnenriss und dem drastischen Umbruch einer Trennung zu erholen, schrieb er die 11 Songs auf diesem Album, die Weinmans stärkste sind und die vermeintliche Verletzlichkeit des Albumtitels bereitwillig aufnimmt. Aber zur gleichen Zeit sind diese Songs die präsentesten von Runnner, trotzig und selbstbewusst, eine Erinnerung an die Entschlossenheit, die aus der anmutigen Unterwerfung entstehen kann. Langjährige Fans von Weinman haben sich wahrscheinlich in seinen unverkennbaren Indie-Rock verguckt, der fast ausschließlich in Schlafzimmern und Heimstudios aufgenommen wurde, wo seine ergreifenden und selbstironischen Texte über Banjos, Gitarren und hallenden Bläsern schweben, die sich zu kathartischen Gipfeln steigern. Aber auf A Welcome Kind of Weakness erhebt sich Weinman zum ersten Mal in High Fidelity. Aber so hoch die klanglichen Höhen auf A Welcome Kind of Weakness auch sein mögen, wir sehen Weinman auch, wie er anmutig mit den Fragen kämpft, die sich aus Momenten des körperlichen und emotionalen Verderbens ergeben. Es erfordert eine gewisse Tapferkeit, lange genug in der trüben Mitte zu sitzen, um darüber zu schreiben. Und in seiner Bereitschaft, diesen transitorischen Raum zu bezeugen, scheint Weinman uns zu beruhigen: Du magst denken, dass du nicht mehr laufen wirst, aber mit der Zeit, könntest du es.

Nach zwei Jahren unermüdlichen Tourens und zahlreicher Festivalauftritte kehrt die finnische Melodic-Death-Metal-Band Suotana mit ihrem bislang ambitioniertesten Album zurück: „Ounas II“, dessen Veröffentlichung für den 29. August 2025 geplant ist.

Als epische Fortsetzung von „Ounas I“ aus dem Jahr 2023 hebt dieses Album den charakteristisch frostigen Sound der Band auf ein neues Level und liefert eisige, zugleich mitreißende Melodic-Death-Hymnen, die das Genre neu definieren werden. Nach dem Erfolg ihres letzten Albums begab sich Suotana Anfang 2024 auf eine Asientour mit Kalmah sowie auf eine Europatour mit Finntroll und brachte ihren energiegeladenen, atmosphärischen Sound einem neuen internationalen Publikum näher. Auch bei namhaften Festivals wie Summer Breeze, Ragnarök Festival, Nummirock, Tuska und dem Hellsinki Metal Festival konnte die Band ihren Ruf als ernstzunehmende Größe der Szene weiter festigen. Die Rückkehr ins Studio mündete in einem Werk, das Aggression, Melodie und monumentales Storytelling meisterhaft vereint. Ounas II ist ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis für Suotanas Weiterentwicklung – epische, frostklirrende Melodic-DeathHymnen mit Einflüssen aus Black und Power Metal. Songs wie „Twilight Stream“ und „Winter Visions“ demonstrieren das gereifte Songwriting und die eiskalte, zugleich elektrisierende Atmosphäre der Band. Das unbestrittene Herzstück des Albums ist jedoch „1473 Ounas“ – eine zehnminütige Melodic-Death-Odyssee mit einem atemberaubenden Gastauftritt von Zoe Marie Federoff-Šmerda (Cradle of Filth). Ihre eindringlichen Gesangslinien verschmelzen nahtlos mit Suotanas Signature-Sound und machen den Song zu einem sofortigen Klassiker.

Norman Connors' Mr. C is a masterclass in sophisticated modern funk and boogie-infused soul that was way ahead of its time. Originally released in 1981, the album finds the renowned jazz drummer/producer at a creative crossroads, boldly diving deep into street-level boogie-funk without losing his soulful, jazzy touch. What once might have puzzled jazz purists now delights soul/funk aficionados; it has quietly become a cult favourite and now, nearly 45 years later, Mr. C sounds fresher than ever. Brimming with infectious heavy funk, lush arrangements and soul-stirring performances, it's an album that flirts with perfection, ensuring its enduring significance in the boogie/jazz-funk-soul canon.

From its opening moments, Mr. C makes one thing clear: this is Norman Connors at his funkiest. The majority of the album is a straight-up party: think dancefloor-ready beats complemented by punchy horn riffs and slick early-80s boogie vibes. There’s heavy use of synths and drum-machines, demonstrating Connors' gleeful embrace of contemporary funk trends. Each track shines in uniquely thrilling fashion, showcasing Connors’ versatility and happy knack for blending genres whilst crafting unforgettable melodies.

Irresistible thumper “She’s Gone” opens the album with a dyno-Rhodes electric piano groove and a seriously thick boogie-funk rhythm. Lush string accents and horn stabs weave through the funky bassline, while the vocals (handled by a young Beau Williams) soar with gospel-tinged emotion. Over four decades later, it endures as a masterpiece. Living up to its name, the shimmering “Party Town” brings deep Electro-Funk Energy by layering bubbling synth bass and shiny lead synth lines. The groove is downright addictive, a brisk, brass-kissed jam that implores you to move. Up next, the sophisticated funk of “Keep Doin’ It” is a low-slung post-disco glider, propelled by a sleek vibe, leaning into the late-night boogie sound. Funky guitar, tight drumming (with Connors’ jazz-honed chops in the pocket) and smooth vocals urge you to “keep doin'” whatever it is that's working. “Stay with Me” works a bit of island flavour into the mix, riding a thick Caribbean groove complete with tropical percussion and an upbeat tempo that could almost be calypsoul. The fusion of Caribbean rhythm elements into an R&B context demonstrates Connors’ willingness to experiment with global sounds while keeping things soulful and danceable.

Side B opens with the sassy funk-deluxe workout, "Anyway You Want" dripping with that soulful strut. Bringing a real quiet storm swagger, “Sing a Love Song” slows the tempo ever so slightly into a sexy, swaying jazz-funk gem, featuring a young Glenn Jones on lead vocals. The arrangement is elegant, built on warm keys and an undeniable groove. The celestial “Love’s In Your Corner” is all about soulful uplift. Featuring the legendary Jean Carn's powerhouse vocals soaring over a brass-kissed driving funk, it's an R&B burner. The refined, jazzy instrumental “Mr. C” is a slinky, smooth, funk-filled mid-tempo groove, with sax and warm keys gliding effortlessly. Connors combines jazzy arrangements into the post-disco/boogie framework one last time, and the result is sublime. It’s sophisticated and cool and, as a finale, “Mr. C” wraps up the album in classy style.

On release, Mr. C flew under the radar but time has been exceptionally kind to this record. DJs, collectors and soul connoisseurs alike have since rediscovered its magic. As ever, this crucial reissue has been lovingly remastered by Simon Francis, cut by engineer of the year Cicely Balston at Abbey Road Studios and pressed to perfection by Record Industry in Holland. Norman Connors was something truly extra. He was a visionary. And Mr. C is proof.

Im Alter von 50 Jahren gelang Dean mit dem Debüt "Nothing For Me Please" 2023 der Durchbruch. "I Hope We Can Still Be Friends" ist im Wesentlichen eine Anthologie - von den Anfängen bis zur heutigen Reife. Jeder Track enthält scherzhafte Gesellschaftskritiken oder liebevoll wiedergegebene Herzensangelegenheiten. Wie der Country-angehauchte Sound von John Prine oder Kris Kristofferson, der umwerfende Humor und die ökonomische Tiefgründigkeit, gebrochen durch den Dunst einer Kneipe, ist das Album voller lässigem Twang, trauriger Charaktere, universeller Wahrheiten und der Absurdität des Alltags. „Rivière Noire“ ist das erste Album von Reginald Omas Mamode IV auf dem Kölner Label Melting Pot Music und sein erstes Solo-Projekt seit 2022.
Reginald Omas Mamode IV ist ein anglo-mauritischer Sänger, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist. Geboren und aufgewachsen in Großbritannien, pflegt er eine enge Verbindung zur afrikanischen Insel Mauritius, der Heimat seines Vaters. Seine musikalischen Wurzeln reichen von Süd-London bis zu den Maskarenen-Inseln (Réunion, Mauritius und Rodrigues), wo seine Familie einst an den legendären „Electric Sega“-Aufnahmen der 1970er beteiligt war. Musik liegt den Mamodes im Blut: Auch seine Brüder sind als Musiker aktiv.
Reginalds Stil vereint Elemente aus Golden Era Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, Afro, Funk sowie den traditionellen mauritischen Stilen Sega und Maloya. Man hört Einflüsse von J Dilla und D’Angelo, aber auch den Spirit von Sly Stone, Shuggie Otis oder Lee Perry. Mit vier Soloalben auf dem Londoner Label Five Easy Pieces sowie zahlreichen Kollaborationen gehört Reginald zu den prägenden Stimmen der britischen Beat- und Jazzszene. Seit 2012 wird er regelmäßig von BBC-Legende Gilles Peterson unterstützt, der seine Musik seither kontinuierlich spielt.
Gemeinsam mit seinen Brüdern Mo Kolours und Jeen Bassa sowie langjährigen Weggefährten wie Al Dobson Jr. und Tenderlonious zählt Reginald zu den Mitbegründern der 22a-Kooperative. „Rivière Noire“ markiert eine künstlerische Weiterentwicklung – fast schon eine Wiedergeburt. Zum ersten Mal verzichtet Reginald vollständig auf Samples. Stattdessen spielt er sämtliche Instrumente und Gesangsspuren selbst ein. In seinem bescheidenen Studio erschafft er organische Grooves aus Live-Drums, Drumcomputern, Perkussion, Gitarre, Fender Rhodes und Synthesizern.
Seine Musik ist Ausdruck einer tiefen Sehnsucht nach universeller Liebe und Mitgefühl. Sie reflektiert globale Herausforderungen ebenso wie persönliche Erfahrungen: wachsende Armut, politische Spannungen, ethnische Spaltungen – aber auch alltägliche Beobachtungen. „Rivière Noire“ ist Reginalds Aufruf an die Menschheit, sich ihrer Verbundenheit bewusst zu werden.

Lathe of Heaven kehren mit ihrem zweiten Album Aurora zurück, einer kühnen Erweiterung ihrer klanglichen und thematischen Palette, die sich wie eine Reihe lebendiger, emotionaler Vignetten entfaltet. Students of Decay presents The Dip, a new full-length recording by Berlin-based artist and composer Thomas Ankersmit, marking his debut with the label and sixth album to date. Comprised of two expansive, sidelong pieces composed entirely on the Serge Modular synthesizer, it signals a subtle yet significant shift in Ankersmit’s trajectory, imbuing the hyper-physical, psychoacoustic intensities of his live performances with introspective, atmospheric, and even melodic elements.

Primarily known for a site-responsive approach to sound, often realized in the moment of performance, Ankersmit’s turn toward the studio in the last few years has opened up a new dimension within his practice. It is in this quiet rupture that The Dip emerged, a study in internality and suspended states, rich with cinematic undercurrents and ghostly spatial suggestion. Here, electricity itself feels transfigured – becoming supple, even organic – within an environment shaped entirely by analog signals.

Over the past two decades, Ankersmit has established himself as one of the foremost practitioners of the Serge, the notoriously idiosyncratic and expressive instrument that has remained central to his work. On The Dip, he harnesses its potential not for brute force or disorientation, but for spaciousness, resonance, and lyrical abstraction. Maxo releases his new album Mars Is Electric. Earlier this week, Maxo released a third haunting video, directed by Vincent Haycock, from the visual world of ‘Mars’ for the title track. Maxo previewed the album with the release of singles “Human?” and “Donahoo’s Chicken” this spring, which arrived with equally raw, inventive, and unnerving music videos.

Mars Is Electric is Maxo’s first official release since he dropped two critically acclaimed albums in 2023 with Even God Has A Sense of Humor and Debbie’s Son. His fifth full-length album finds the Southern Californian artist self-aware and mature. Having lived the last decade of his musical life intentionally creating specific bodies of work rooted in imagery, observation, and capturing moments, Maxo spent this previous year freely creating without a specific plan, relieved from all obligations and restrictions.

“This is the first time that I really didn’t care, I didn’t approach things so seriously,” the artist shrugs off, meaning that without expectations or specific goals, his creativity flourished. This opening finds the artist having conversations he’s been avoiding, having lived silently in the pain of those topics for the past few years. Kernaussage:'grau und 20 Jahre hinterher', war ja 'ne Mangelwirtschaft, da gab es halt nicht so viel, auch nicht Wörter. Themen des Alltags mit der Sprache des Alltags. Ob Nazi-Stress, Liebe oder machtgeile Studie-Punker, die Thematik wird auf den Punkt gebracht und die Kernaussage so oft wiederholt bis der Letzte es versteht. Der Sound von THE COCKHEADS ist zwar schlicht, aber genau das macht ihn gefährlich, er setzt sich fest und lässt nicht mehr locker. Noch Stunden nach dem Konsum wippt man in seinem Takt. Gewarnt sei hier besonders vor dem Titeltrack, sein Genuss kann als Nebenwirkung einen Ohrwurm erzeugen! Mit nur 14 Jahren begann Trelane als Backgroundsängerin bei Billy Childish und CTMF und sprang bei einer BBC6 Session als Leadsängerin für einen Ramones-Song ein. Als die Band Trelanes großartige Stimme hörte, beschloss sie, ihn bei einigen Monkees-Covers als Leadsängerin auszuprobieren. Trelane kam auf die Idee für den Bandnamen. "Ben Harper has unveiled his new album Winter Is For Lovers, and in many ways his entire musical life has culminated in this moment. The solo recording, which features just Harper and his Monteleone lap steel guitar, is a 15-song work of original instrumental compositions imagined as a symphony. Harper has pushed musical boundaries since his 1994 debut and his lap steel guitar has played a tremendous role in his distinct sound throughout his career. But he"s never made an album that so purely distills his reverence for the instrument, and his mastery of it. “Great Doubt” is the third full length LP by Danish composer Astrid Sonne. Throughout her acclaimed discography, Astrid Sonne has been carefully crafting different moods through electronic and acoustic instrumental endeavours. On “Great Doubt” this skill is refined, now with the distinct addition of the composer's own vocal in front. The tone of each track is unmistakably Sonne’s, structured around contrasts through an impeccable sense of timing. Lyrics on the album are sparse, merely highlighting different scenes or emotional states of being, leaving the music to fill in the blanks. Yet they also form a pattern of ambiguity, consolidated through the album title, searching for answers through looking at how and what you are asking, questions for the world, questions of love. The viola, a trusted companion since Astrid Sonne’s youth, appears effortlessly throughout the album, fully integrated into the sonic universe; through a pizzicato driven arrangement in the poignant track “Almost” or along with booms and claps in mutated cinematic stabs during “Give my all”, paraphrasing Mariah Carey's 1997 ballad. Yet the string section also gives way to explorations of woodwinds, counterbalancing the bowed movements with digital brass and airy flutes. Finally, beats and detuned piano are fresh additions to the soundscape, cementing how Sonne’s practice is always evolving into new territories. In fall 2022, Astrid Sonne relocated from Copenhagen with its peers of artists such as ML Buch, Erika de Casier and Smerz, to live in London, where musicians of the South-East London scene like Coby Sey, Lolina, Still House Plants and Mica Levi provide a new inspirational framework. “Great Doubt” bears witness to both of those geographical locations, yet finds itself in its own unique space, in many ways due to the presence of Sonne's voice throughout. A voice that has always been present in her work, but never fully explored as a solo instrument before now. Astrid Sonne elaborates on the wish to work more in depth with the voice: “I come from a tradition of choir singing where I’ve used my voice as a way of creating unity with other voices. Reissue of Philemon Arthur and the Dung's debut album, originally released in 1972. Comes with a bonus 12" where Philemon Arthur play a Bob Hund track, and Bob Hund play Philemon Arthur. Two still anonymous youngsters from Skåne, in the far south of Sweden are making music that divide music Sweden in two halves with their bold vocals, experimental lyrics and fantastic songs. Either you love them or the opposite. Clearly there are influences from early rock bands as Velvet Underground and Rolling Stones and others. But they make something completely of their own out of it with accordion, guitar, biscuit jars, granny's radiator and some other stuff. 1972 they were awarded a Swedish Grammis. Of course there was no one to receive it. The Grammy awards were shut down for 15 years after that.

Legendary postmodern, post punk, post human, past caring collective Mekons return with a brand-new album for 2025. Their first release on Fire Records, ‘Horror’ a collection of songs written in late 2022 but providing a horribly prescient reflection of the world in its current miasma and how we got here. ‘Horror’ looks at history and the legacies of British imperialism with mashed up lyrics set against a typically eclectic sound that amalgamates everything from dub, country, noise, rock & roll, electronica, punk, music hall, polka and you can even take your partner for a nice waltz on ‘Sad And Sad And Sad’. The roots of their global sound reflect their nomadic journey through time and space from Leeds to California in the West and Siberia in the East and is woven into the fabric and intricacies of their song creation… Sounding like The Chills and R.E.M circa the I.R.S Records years, ‘Mudcrawlers’ sees just about the whole band joining Jon Langford on vocals speaking of Irish famine and refugees journeying to Wales. ‘War Economy’ shivers in the cold of such Boroughs spiked one-liners: “Clinical coercion will not achieve dominance!” Sounding like its straight off a Jenny Holzer neon sign (she of Abuse Of Power Comes As No Surprise), it’s held together by a disgruntled swaggering riff that underpins an explosion of disquiet. Meanwhile, Rico takes the lead on the maliciously luscious ‘Fallen Leaves’ an appalled and appalling Hammer Horror take on climate breakdown reminiscent of Rolling Thunder Dylan, that recalls The Pogues at their most introspective, its Celtic twilightism augmented by Susie Honeyman’s keening violin as the dying sun sinks down and the river Styx flows on in the pitch black night. Almost 50 years in the making, these Mekons continue to astound, their sound, sentiment and method of delivery blended to perfection by bass player and studio wizard, Dave Trumfio. Following on from FR023, Soulox & Soeneido are back once again on Future Retro London with a solid 2 tracker release. They sent me "It Been" last year, shortly after their first release had gone into manufacture and I really liked the tune and was playing it a lot in DJ sets but I didn't really have any plans to release it.

At the same time, I remember there being a track in Phineus II's set from the Future Retro London event that took place in February 2023 and I really really liked it but had no idea who it was by. When I later found out it was by Soulox & Soeneido and it was called "Why", it give me the idea for this release as neither track was signed to any other label and I felt that both tracks needed to see the light of day.

Ranil is undoubtedly the most unconventional figure among the greats of Amazonian cumbia, earning a well-deserved place alongside iconic bands like Los Mirlos, Los Wembler's, and Juaneco y su Combo. DESCRIPTION Ranil is undoubtedly the most unconventional figure among the greats of Amazonian cumbia, earning a well-deserved place alongside all the better-known iconic bands. He worked as a teacher, criollo guitarist, radio host, TV entrepreneur, and politician, but gained lasting fame as the founder of Ranil y Su Conjunto Tropical in the 1970s. By 1968, around the same time Los Destellos were making waves in Lima, groups like Los Wembler's de Iquitos and Juaneco y su Combo began electrifying cumbia in Iquitos. This new genre, dubbed Amazonian cumbia, exploded nationwide in 1973, thanks to hits by Juaneco y su Combo, Los Mirlos, and Los Wembler's. The success these bands achieved spawned dozens of other groups from the Amazon. Ranil, always a visionary, recognized the movement's potential and joined forces through his first single recorded on the Dinsa label in 1974. Unhappy with the contractual terms, he went on to found Producciones Llerena, the label on which he would release the rest of his discography. Over the years, Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical featured guitarists like Límber Zumba and Luis Nigro, while Ranil remained the lead vocalist and bassist for group. Zumba and Nigro had already played with other regional bands and written songs for groups like Los Destellos and Los Mirlos. This compilation offers a glimpse into the vast musical output Ranil created in the late 1970s and early 1980s, bringing together 14 tracks from the band's 10 LPs. These records have always been hard to come by as, despite being recorded in Lima, they were distributed by Ranil from Iquitos. Following up 2017's album "Udu" this is slow and powerful – with its set narration, but generous space and time, a room for imagination can cautiously be kept. A-side is direct, with generous intro's and endings, dense but with a light sonic specter, and a balance between the atonal & harmonious. B-side has darker undertones, being less framed it's more earthy and cosmic at the same time. Non rhythmic but all contrasting elements are here inseparable in sound and arrangement, from beginning till end, like a sonic tide.

Since our first contact with NYC based producer Thavius Beck in 2018, he sent us over 100 unreleased tracks, or beats, as he calls them. 25 of them have been selected for releases on U-TRAX, good for over 2 hours of music, across this album and the Lovesick EP.

Growing up in LA, Thavius Beck entered the hip-hop scene as member of Global Phlowtations, and released several solo albums under the Adlib moniker. In later years, he released five albums under his own name on labels like Mush, Big Dada and Plug Research, and also produced albums for artists like Saul Williams and K‑the‑I???, and did some remixing for amongst others Nine Inch Nails.
Nowadays he combines making music with a career as a succesful certified Ableton and Bitwig trainer and as a music teacher at Berklee NYC.

The tracks vary in style a lot, but what they have in common is that they either are moody – in U-TRAX lingo: deep - or they are drum heavy. The common denominator would probably be 'experimental/instrumental hip-hop', reminiscent of producers like Flying Lotus. People have tried all sorts of comparisons to pinpoint Thavius' sound, ranging from 'between DJ Shadow and Orbital' and 'a mix of Massive Attack and The Orb'. None of these are spot on, yet quite a few of these tracks feel like a happy marriage between hip-hop beats and techno sounds.

Despite the fact that some tracks are 20 years old and have been made with widely different gear (one track was even made on a PlayStation 2), this selection sounds remarkably balanced, yet diverse.

From the irresistible single 'Lovesick/Still Sick' to the dark and massive 'Birdsong' (that echoes the sound of his popular song 'Atmos'), and from the head-nodding 'Work!' to the soothing 'Reunited With The All' - if this collection showcases anything, it's Thavius' brilliant production and composing skills, as well as his wizard-level sampling techniques. The result is a luscious electronic music album with a broad appeal.

Aura Sonora return with a second release to follow up the fantastic first one, this time it brings together two meticulous studio craftsmen, DYL & Tammo Hesselink. Their Moire Patterns EP kicks off with 'Pattern 1', a deep and rhythmic slice of rubbery techno that rides broken beats with atmospheric pulses up top. 'Pattern 2 slows down to a predatory crawl with icy pads making fro a dystopian vibe then 'Pattern 3' brings a sense of mystic tribal ritual deep in some futuristic jungle and 'Pattern 4' closes down with more fantastically crafted, dubby, broken rhythms that are topped with organic percussion and almost impossible not to move to. Pure rhythm science brilliance.

Recorded as part of the same daydreaming puzzle as Unwishing Well, Still Clouds at Noon brings out the slowcore/sadcore elements that drift through The Reds, Pinks & Purples' melancholy catalog. Donaldson names '90s hometown San Francisco acts such as American Music Club and the more obscure Timco as pivotal to his guitar playing and development as a songwriter, both of which shine bright here. The slower tempo ballads on Still Clouds_ often culminate in heavy fuzz drenched codas and showcase the more abstract poetic side of Donaldson's lyricism.
