Soul Quest are proud to present the latest release from Berlin based DJ and producer Jean-Jez, who continues on with a musical journey with flourishing roots and a bright, bright future.

Jean-Jez has made waves in Berlin’s underground for a good while now, with his Kedi Bounce parties (whom he co-founded) quickly becoming a celebratory cornerstone of community and culture. His DJing style and production approach act as a core expressional loop, with Jean-Jez embracing a multitude of styles and sounds with both. Bridging the gap between house, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afro-Latin and beyond, Jean-Jez is all about nurturing the collective joy found within music - either through his own tunes or deep in the mix at a Kat Nip party.

‘Soul Notion’ wears its heart on its sleeve, and embodies the core musical principles to which Jean-Jez holds so very dear. ‘Did you want to dance!’ kicks things off with a deep melodic embrace, before spreading outwards with brassy frills, evocative simmering drumming patterns and vocal samples which kick the inner consciousness into another gear.

‘Take me to the moon’ contains an up and front piano lead, with uptempo drums providing a twist and flair to proceedings. Some inspired vocals add further to the atmosphere, one of airiness and emotional escapism.

‘What is it tell me’ stirs into life with a wide scope through the low ends, but Jean-Jez cooks up a storm with some wondrous jazz guitar that weaves one final spell to get lost deep within.

To wrap things up, Jean-Jez enlists his own collective: Kedi Bounce to put an Acid twist on ‘Did You Want To Dance’ to close the ep in style. This mix is exclusive to the vinyl mix and won’t be released digitally.

Jean-Jez looks to celebrate and resonate through his music, and this EP is a full demonstration of his abilities to bring things together. Seamlessly blending some of his favourite styles, this record contains all the feels to be wished for, and an experience that leaves plenty of room for return visits, this EP has you covered.

November 1965 im französischen Fernsehen ihre magische Stimme entdeckten, während sie Piafs Lieder sang. 200 Millionen verkaufte Tonträger weltweit und fast 60 Jahre später präsentiert Mireille Mathieu eine besondere und abwechslungsreiche Neuauflage ihrer sehr erfolgreichen Hommage an die französische Ikone Edith Piaf. Diese neue, remasterte Ausgabe von Piafs zeitlosen Liedern wird auf allen digitalen Plattformen, als Doppel-CD im Digipack und zum ersten Mal auf Double Gatefold Vinyl erhältlich sein. Mit vielen seltenen alternativen Versionen, zwei bisher unveröffentlichten Live-Tracks aus dem Jahr 1965 und einem brandneuen, von Mireille Mathieu selbst komponierten und von Claude Lemesle geschriebenen Tribut-Track mit dem Titel "L'amour en robe noire" ("Liebe im schwarzen Kleid") wird diese Wiederveröffentlichung 2023, die an Edith Piafs sechzigsten Todestag erinnert, sicherlich ein ganz besonderes Highlight sein. Die mit einem großen Orchester aufgenommenen Interpretationen und die einzigartige Stimme von Mireille Mathieu zeugen von ihrer musikalischen Leidenschaft und Bewunderung für Edith Piaf und ihre weltberühmten Melodien. Dieses unverzichtbare Doppelalbum von Mireille Mathieu, einem zeitlosen Star des französischen Chansons, der sein Leben dem Gesang gewidmet hat, ist eine Hommage an die große Edith Piaf, für die Mireille bei ihren Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt immer noch einige ihrer ikonischen Lieder singt.

The EP also includes a remix of the popular single ‘SAMO’, which
spent four weeks on the BBC 6 Music playlist, accompanied by an
animated lyric video paying homage to the graffiti tag it was named
after by Al Diaz and American artist and wunderkind, Jean-Michel
Basquiat. The final track on the EP is a remix of ‘Waiting on a Train’,
presenting a new and special version of the original song, with the
presence of featuring artists Ellen Beth Abdi and Chunky remaining
strong.

Formed in 1978 with a core line-up of Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and
Donald Johnson, A Certain Ratio emerged from the hallowed grounds
of the late 1970s punk scene, and from that day on they’ve moved
forwards with gleeful disregard for the boundaries of style and genre,
their eye fixed firmly on constant progression.
