The Southern Fold wurde 2014 in Kilkenny, Irland, von Sänger/Gitarrist/Songwriter Emlyn Holden gegründet. Die Band integriert Elemente aus Country, Blues und Gospel in einen Folk-/Roots-Sound und findet Einflüsse von so weit her wie Hank Williams, Nirvana und alles dazwischen. The name dreamcastmoe is somewhat synonymous with the Peckham based "Rhythm Section INTL" Label. With a sound equally indebted to hip hop, house, hazy electronics and DC"s very own "go-go" sound - dreamcastmoe, born Davon Bryant-James burst onto the scene with a refreshing mix of styles matched with an irresistible personality.

More than 20 years after their debut, Witchcraft's seventh album, 'IDAG,' is an awaited full accounting of who they are as a band. Those who have clamored for the return to an earlier sound rooted in '70s classic progressive and heavy rock will delight to the strut of "Irreligious Flamboyant Flame" while the eight-minute opening title-track is the heaviest the band have ever sounded, and a succession of interspersed acoustic-based pieces helps create a vision of a new, soulfully folkish doom taking shape as they continue to move inexorably forward. Founding guitarist/vocalist, Magnus Pelander, says of 'IDAG': "This album will reap souls and destroy wicked minds. And perhaps mend a couple of broken ones." These enigmatic few words from the Swedish band's main songwriter give clues as to the songs' intentions; a reference dropped to Coven's 1969 album, 'Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls.' Coven also had a folkish, proto-doomed take at that point in their history, and that multifaceted nature has been a part of Witchcraft all along. On one level, Magnus is winkingly telling you it's a Witchcraft record. The actual meaning of that becomes clear when you hear the album and find out just how much 'a Witchcraft record' can encompass. The storyline of Witchcraft's growth, from Pelander's starting the band in Örebro in 2000 in the wake of his prior outfit Norrsken's disbanding. A generational landmark of a 2004 self-titled debut helped spark a retroist movement that has become its own subgenre, but Witchcraft never stopped growing. 2005's 'Firewood' and 2007's 'The Alchemist' introduced more progressive sounds, and five years later, the pointedly modern 'Legend' established in 2012 that they had moved beyond the analog worship they had been a part of pioneering within the contemporary heavy rock and doom scene. In 2016, the 2LP 'Nucleus' introduced fuller-toned doom, and 2020's 'Black Metal' diverged into moody acoustic minimalism familiar to some fans from Pelander's early solo work, but different from anything Witchcraft had done prior. 'IDAG,' then, is the tie that draws all of this - more than two decades of exploring and growth - together. Im Französischen sagt man oft, dass man in alten Töpfen die besten Suppen kocht. Dieses Sprichwort trifft auf Rash Panzer idealer Weise zu. Anfang Dezember erst veröffentlichte die Genfer Power-Rock-Combo ihr neues, fünftes Studio Album, und das mehr als 40 Jahre nach der Gründung der Band! Nach dem Erfolg bedankt sich die Band jetzt bei ihren Fans, mit einer remastered Version des im Jahr 2013 veröffentlichten Albums Back On The Rocks.

Die großartige Zusammenarbeit mit Producer Serge Morattel bei den letzten beiden Alben, inspirierte die Band dazu ihr früheres Werk nochmals mit stärkerem und frischerem Sound zu veröffentlichen. Es wurde nicht nur remastered, sondern auch auf drei Tracks geremixed und Band-Leader JJay Guerchakoff hatte das Vergnügen, einige Vocals neu aufzunehmen. Ein must have für alle Fans der Band und guten Hard Rocks.

Die isländische Band KALEO kündigt ihr drittes Studioalbum "Mixed Emotions" für den 9. Mai bei Atlantic Records an. Das Album, produziert von Eddie Spear und mitkoproduziert von JJ Julius Son und Shawn Everett, verspricht eine Mischung aus energiegeladenen und tiefgründigen musikalischen Elementen. Die neue Single "Back Door" ist bereits erhältlich.
"Mixed Emotions" thematisiert persönliche und gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen und spiegelt die emotionalen Höhen und Tiefen des Lebens wider. JJ Julius Son beschreibt das Album als vielfältig und für jeden Geschmack etwas bietend. Die Aufnahmen begannen im März 2023 in Nashville und wurden zwischen Tourneen fortgesetzt.

The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four is a
double album of tracks written by Andy Gill and Gang of Four, all newly
reinterpreted and recorded by artists whose own unique contributions to
music were enriched by listening to Gang of Four.
The album features songs from across Gang of Four’s 40-plus year career, each
individually chosen by the artists who covered them. Andy Gill originally conceived of the album to mark the 40th anniversary of the release of Entertainment! in 2019. His widow, Catherine Mayer, explains that this plan had already
changed by the time of Andy’s death in 2020, after some artists chose tracks
from different albums and periods.
“Andy was massively excited about this project,” Mayer says. “It wasn’t of
course conceived as a tribute album, but it’s comforting to me that he lived to
see artists he hugely admired enthusiastically agreeing to participate, signalling that the admiration was mutual.” The album artwork has been created by
English artist Damien Hirst, a long-time friend of Andy’s.

Dazu haben sich WEB WEB diesmal (wieder) in Originalbesetzung (ohne Max Herre) einen besonderen Gast ausgesucht: JJ Whitefield (The Poets Of Rhythm / Karl Hector & The Malcouns / Syrup), der den fantastischen Gitarrensound beisteuert. Seine Riffs sind manchmal funky wie bei den Poets Of Rhythm oder Syrup, oder psychedelischer wie bei Karl Hector & The Malcouns oder seinen vielen Live- und Studioaufnahmen mit Embryo. Die Soundfarbe seiner Gitarre gibt dem Album den Schub in die wunderbare Atmosphäre spaciger Jazz-Kraut Bands der Siebziger. Das Konzept des Albums sollte das exakte Gegenteil zum vorigen WEB MAX Album (WEB MAX II) darstellen: Wieder zurück zu den (WEB WEB-) Wurzeln, mit spontanen, improvisierten Stücken, Fragmenten, Ideen, die größtmögliche Freiheit und Live Spirit bedeuten. Und genauso unvorhersehbar und improvisiert war auch die Idee, JJ Whitefield mit ins Boot zu holen: Einen Tag vor der Session dachte sich Roberto Di Gioia: "JJ und ich leben seit jeher in München. Wir sind uns aber leider nie wirklich über den Weg gelaufen. Ich bin ein großer Bewunderer seiner Kunst, seiner Musik, seiner Art zu spielen. Er ist so inspirierend, weil er keine Kompromisse eingeht. Er spielt auf seine so eigene Art und Weise, er ist keine Kopie von irgendwem und irgendwas."

Die 14 Kompositionen entstanden an zwei Tagen, aufgenommen von Jan Krause (Beanfield) in München. Die energetische Live-Session ging über zweimal 10 Stunden, und alle - Roberto Di Gioia (Rhodes, Fender Precision Bass, Moog, Mellotron, Percussion), Christian von Kaphengst (Fender Precision Bass, Rhodes), Peter Gall (Drums, Percussion, Fender Rhodes), Tony Lakatos (Tenorsaxophon, Querflöte) - waren bis ins Mark "on fire". Dabei wechselten die Musiker die Instrumente, um einen vollkommen anderen Gesamtklang zu erzeugen: Kaphengst am Fender Rhodes klingt anders als Roberto, sein Spiel hat einen anderen harmonischen Aufbau, und Roberto am Bass kennt man von zahlreichen Max Herre Aufnahmen, oder von Till Brönners Album "Till Brönner", und natürlich auch bei dem von ihm produzierten "Let Yourself Be Loved" von Joy Denalane, das auf Motown Records erschienen ist.

Chaotic Shimmer is a collection of songs that vary in texture and genesis. The A side has a stronger sense of familiarity with the more rocking numbers, while the B side stretches out in more exploration. Some of the same electronic elements of 2024's Black Holes Don't Choke can be found in songs like "Music For The People" and "Caught Waiting". There is also a subtle nod to Minor Threat in the lyrics of "Caught Waiting". The track "Path I'd Like to Follow" is dreamy and meditative - channeling JJ Cale or late sixties San Francisco fog. The opening track is a rocket ship waiting to escape the dull confines of this singular consciousness, and it creates a space for the title track to transcend at will. All of the songs were recorded by Charles Moothart at his studio in Los Angeles. He wrote, performed, recorded, and mixed everything heard on this album. Reserving the right to do as thou wilt is rock and roll 101. The world is chaos, and chaos is creativity. To accept and embrace this is to tap in to the Chaotic Shimmer - a transcendent energy. Music is for the people. Charles Moothart is a multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. He plays guitar in bands like FUZZ and Primitive Ring, as well as drums in GØGGS and Moonhearts. He was the touring drummer for Ty Segall's Freedom Band, as well as the Ty Segall and White Fence collaborative tours. Moothart has also released solo work under his initials CFM.

You know you’re about to be pulled somewhere new against your will. Inertia is a hell of a thing. It’s nice here. Surely, the party’s not over yet? JJULIUS’ Vol. 3 album is a big step forward, or a step up, out of the murky basement of the preceding two volumes. There’s no time to acclimate. A spindly violin grabs you by the hand and pulls you into the pastoral bounce of “Brinna ut,” which, in spite of its meaning (“Burn out”), creates the kind of blind positivity and warm stomach feeling less cynical people might find in self-help seminars. For us, we have records like this. And, inertia be damned, Vol. 3 has charm like a balm. JJULIUS records have always arrived like meteors from another planet, an impression hammered home by the fact that they’re titled like compendiums of artifacts. And while Vols. 1 and 2 carried that notable tinge of darkness, Vol. 3 has (almost!) cast that shadow, adding elements of disco (“Dödsdisco”) and dream-pop (“Etopisk hallucination”) to his forever favorites Arthur Russell, African Head Charge, and The Fall. Some of that new car smell could be attributed to a change in process. Each song was written over beats played by Tor Sjödén of the wild-eyed Stockholm group Viagra Boys, beats that were themselves inspired by tracks from the likes of Patrick Cowley, CAN, Count Ossie, Black Devil Disco Club and others that Julius would send to him as inspiration. Unless you’re Mark E. Smith, fervor fades. Eventually we all crave a lie down in some nice grass, a few minutes to gaze at the sky and wonder if everything is actually all that bad. Vol. 3 gives you 35 of those respiting minutes. “No looking back, no misery, no talking trash, no enemies.”

The members of the New Orleans band ditched the dirtier riffs of their past projects (Jeff The Brotherhood, Bottomfeeders) for a West Coast curl that balanced country twang and honeyed harmonies with a rhythmic stomp that fishtailed through the speakers with glee.

An eponymous full length on Third Man fully distilled the scope of their sound, turning stage-battered ballads and barroom burners into one of 2021’s most promising debuts. They return for a second salvo, honed with a tour-tight symbiosis and some ace drop-ins from southern slingers Luke Schneider (pedal steel) and Rex Gregory (sax, flute). Rosalie finds Silver Synthetic refining their sound, softening their approach, and letting a breeze of ‘70s AOR weave among the country swagger. Between the tanned riffs, the band also balances societal burnout with sunshine, transforming scoffs and sneers into smoke-curled sighs draped in a windows-down aura.

They make their way to Curation Records for the new outing, a welcome home for the band’s sun-streaked Americana, turning ‘Preflyte’ Byrds, JJ grooves, beach-bound Neil, and ‘Water of Love’-era Dire Straits into an album that smooths the seams and steers the listener towards new horizons.
