Improvisation ist der Kern - oft werden große Teile von Aufnahmen bearbeitet, um das Werk wie ein Marmorbildhauer freizulegen. Es ist eine expansive und interdisziplinäre Praxis, die es JJJJJerome ermöglicht, sich an jedes Medium und jede Form anzupassen, darunter aufgezeichnete Musik, Live-Theater und Performance-Kunst, Filmmusik, Spoken Word und Storytelling sowie multimediale/visuelle Werke, die Klang integrieren. Als Mensch, der stottert, fiel es ihm in der Kindheit schwer, sich mit dem Mund auszudrücken. Den Künstlernamen ,JJJJJerome" zu buchstabieren, rührt von der Erkenntnis her, dass das am häufigsten gestotterte Wort der eigene Name ist. Trotz einer kurzen Sprachtherapie als Kind - als er in der siebten Klasse zum Saxophon griff, machte es plötzlich Klick. ,Ich stottere immer noch beim Saxophonspielen, aber es ist anders." Als Künstler dreht sich sein kreatives Ethos nun um die Erforschung des Stotterns durch Musik, wobei er die Fähigkeit jedes Einzelnen, Zeit zu gestalten, näher erläutert. Er ehrt das Stottern durch Kunst. Er begann damit, zu CDs von John Coltrane und Billie Holiday auf dem Horn zu improvisieren. Aber als jemand, der sich gerne mit Grenzen auseinandersetzt, hat sich JJJJJerome seitdem zu einem versierten Multi-Instrumentalisten entwickelt, wobei jedes Instrument einen Wendepunkt darstellt, der neue Wege zu potenziellen Klangwelten ebnet. Seine Stimme wird zusätzlich von einer Ehrfurcht vor der Erde und den Vorfahren - sowohl menschlichen als auch anderen - geleitet. Aufgrund der familiären Verbindungen seiner Mutter zur Kirche und den unvergesslichen Geschichten seiner Großmutter, die als Pianistin und Organistin auftrat, hat JJJJJeromes jüngste Affinität zu Tasteninstrumenten eine bedeutende Gewichtung. Das kommende zweite Album ,Vesper Sparrow" (Shelter Press) ist aus dieser Verbindung zur schwarzen religiösen Tradition und zum Erbe entstanden. Es ist eine Fortsetzung der fortlaufenden Auseinandersetzung des Künstlers mit den Schnittstellen zwischen Musik und Klang, Stottern und Schwarzsein aus der Perspektive der Zeit. Das Album besteht aus zwei vollständigen Gedanken und dreht sich um ein aufgezeichnetes Stottern. JJJJJerome teilt die vierteilige Komposition ,Evensong" auf, indem er das Stottern in Teil zwei ausblendet und die Tracks drei und vier (,Vesper Sparrow" und ,Black-Throated Sparrow") dazwischen einfügt. ,Das Stottern wird zu einem strukturierenden Moment", erklärt er in Bezug auf die Möglichkeit, die entstandene Zeit zu füllen. Die Aussetzung wird somit zu einem integralen Bestandteil der musikalischen Sprache von JJJJJerome. Sowohl Stottern als auch Granularsynthese können Momente in der Zeit aussetzen und ,zu vielfältigen Arten des Verweilens, Durchquerens und Verbindens mit anderen in diesen Momenten einladen". Der Künstler greift auch auf Elemente der Pop-Produktion zurück - elektronische Texturen und Verzerrungen, die teilweise vom Indie-Rock inspiriert sind, sowie Spoken Word, Sampling und Audiomanipulationen, die aus der karibischen und afroamerikanischen Musik stammen.

Moody and Zeitgeist have had the utmost privilege to bring onboard a team of some of the most accomplished musicians/wordsmiths India has to offer for this album. Working out of Island City Studios in Khar West, Mumbai, the duo assembled a team of musicians including acclaimed and awarded vocalists Vinay Sugatha Ramadasan and Anuja Zokarkar. The pair bring a lyrical depth to the music informed by millennia of North-Indian classical poetry and melody. Metaphor and imagery is intermingled with EX GENERATION's unapologetic rhythm and production style to form something that is profound and complex, whilst also accessible and innate in the way it confronts the listener.

A surefire Salsoul classic and comfortably one of the label's finest moments, the self-titled LP from The Strangers was originally released in that golden year of 1983 and is one of the greatest albums of the post-disco era. It’s one of Be With's favourite ever LPs and it's a complete honour to be giving it our reissue treatment.

Still strangely overlooked but not for much longer, The Strangers contains flawless tracks with truly top tier production and includes the eternal Paradise Garage favourite "Step Into My Dream."

Are they Strangers to us? Well, no, they shouldn't be. The Strangers were a US electronic-funk studio concept group comprising Edward "Tree" Moore, Howard King and Hubert Eaves III, all key members of Mtume and Gary Bartz NTU Troop and, in the case of Eaves, one half of D-Train.

We kick off with the dope electro-funk of "Wanna Take Your Body" which features Gary Bartz on sax (!) and becomes more sensational and irresistible the longer it plays. The wonky super-bomb "Let Me Take You Home" has a punk-funk, post-Prince feel, driving and delicate all at the same time while "Show Me How You Like It" is pure FUNK, the groove just pure fire.

Side B is perfection. It kicks off with the NTS favourite "Love Rescue", a track so slick it positively SLAPS out the gate and, while it bangs throughout, the vocals and melodies elevate this to the status of EMOTIONAL POP.

Next up, "Step Out Of My Dream" swaggers forth, the undisputed masterpiece that was huge with the London DJs and UK Soul fraternity; it's not hard to see why. It's a gliding, smooth, soulful piece of once-in-a-lifetime magic.

Swedish DJ, producer and songwriter Johan Blende debuts on Hell Yeah with a journey to the heart of a grown-up dancefloor in the Med.

Blende is a master of mixing up retro 70s and 80s sound into modern dancefloor delights. He's been doing it for two decades on a wide range of cultured labels from Studio Barnhus to Eskimo, always with a rare charm and leftfield perceptive. With this EP, he taps into the magic of hazy afternoons turning into euphoric evenings by the sea.

'Off To Mallorca' jangles with taught bass notes and sunburnt vocals. Distant synths glow, the jumbled percussion injects just the right dose of ass-wiggling funk and this playful yet sophisticated cut builds toward a blissful rapture. 'Television' ups the ante with prickly acid panning about the mix over sleazy, low-slung drums. Tension simmers as edgy synth motifs stalk the groove and anticipation builds before the whole thing explodes into a cosmic disco payoff. It's raw, unpredictable, and perfect for when things start to get a little weird.

'Como No Brasil' gazes skyward and basks in a wash of shimmering melodies and breezy, wordless vocals that drift like clouds over layered, sun-drenched rhythms. It’s a dreamy, tropical float until a surprise acid storm rolls in and moves things from tranquil paradise to dancefloor hypnosis. Finally, 'Carousel Bagatelle' is a layered, late-night trip that feels both playful and introspective. Hypnotic synths swirl around screwy acid lines and supple, dubbed-out house drums that spin you into a daze.

Blende’s debut on Hell Yeah lands like a postcard from a perfect party - sun-dazed, acid-kissed and endlessly replayable.

Gledd returns home with an album full of collaborations and influences. He creates an atmosphere rich in samples and recorded instruments that together form an explosion of groove and driving melodies. The result is a mix of cultures and rhythms that shapes his increasingly distinctive sound

A1 - Everybody

ASC opens his latest Spatial EP in subtle fashion, classic genre effects punctuating anunsettling intro before deliciously crisp drums seize the stage and build continually with hi-hats generating an urgency to the vibe. A series of micro melodies delivered withtrademark technical flair float across stunning breaks, before a rousing baseline caps off asuperbly evocative mix which delights the listener and dancer in equal measure.

A2 - Seconds To Midnight

Straight in with a purposeful 808 bassline, ASC delivers another powerhouse display ofbreakbeat fluency, jumping between chunky, juddery drum patterns with a choppedversion of a lesser-used but very effective break sample last heard on ASC's very ownclassic, Polaris. Epic vocal effects surround Seconds To Midnight with a tense aura whilesuitably pitched strings and synth work are dusted liberally throughout the piece.

AA1 - Restless Dreams

Amen fans unite! ASC's love for the most classic of breaks shines through once againwith an enthralling workout for the ages. Introduced with eerie pad work and a solobassline, the atmosphere is crafted through a plethora of pads and samples while theamens thunder on with a detailed array of editing skills on show - thumping kicks andsnares keep the energy levels high bar after bar leaving nothing in their wake.

AA2 - Core Memories

A gorgeous female vocal opens Core Memories, a track which uses the classic breakfeatured on the first ever Spatial release, Force Majeure. Here, a refreshing set oftechniques are on show from ASC as he carves and chops the break to the tune ofcautious horns, highlighting the serene yet uncertain backdrop to a wonderfully varied anddetailed collage to close this distinctive and progressive EP from the label head.

F_Phono is an artist who has spent a significant part of his life immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of clubs, where he discovered a deep passion for electronic music. Magnificent Fall, The Notwist's new rarities compilation, compiles some special and wild moments from this unique German indie group's rich history. They've always snuck gorgeous songs and thrilling remixes onto split singles, extended plays, and other formats, across their career, and pieced together here – compiled thoughtfully, with sensitivity to flow and the listening experience – these thirteen selections work as a kind of ‘shadow narrative’ of The Notwist, an alternative index of the possibilities this shape-shifting group uncovered during their time together.

They've been smart to let go of chronology when sequencing Magnificent Fall, so the songs here move across phases and stages of The Notwist's career, helmed by brothers Markus and Micha Acher. This approach makes plenty of sense, as this music compiled here abstracts from two impulses – to push forward and not repeat what has come before, while building from the group's very specific musical language. Just one example: the loveliness of the instrumental “Avalanche”, from 2020's Ship, follows elegantly from the happy-sad glitch-pop of “Blank Air”, from a 2010 split with former member Martin Gretschmann's project Console. Different phases, different memberships, shared concerns.

The Notwist have always been interested in and open to community, and one of the many ways they reach out to others is through the remix. There are three here, sent back to The Notwist from different corners of the world, both aesthetically and geographically: Grizzly Bear take on “Boneless”, Ada tackles “Run Run Run”, and Odd Nosdam submerges “Sleep” in noise and clatter. Another connection, of course: Odd Nosdam is part of The Notwist's extended family, through Markus and Micha Acher's 13 & God project with fellow Anticon artists Themselves and Subtle.

So, the music on Magnificent Fall traverses varying terrain – abstract hip-hop, chamber pop, sweet and simple folk song, indietronica, free-floating improvisation. There are several unreleased songs, as well, drawn from across the group's history. Core to it all, though, the thing that makes The Notwist so singular, is the thumbprint of the Acher brothers, their gently poetic way of moving through the world and welcoming other musicians and artists into the fold, expressively and with generosity.

Historically aware without being nostalgic, Magnificent Fall is the perfect way to introduce The Notwist's reissue programme with Morr Music, too, including a box set, and the group's eight albums, documenting their three-and-a-half decades of music and community-making. Looking back to move forward? It's a very good idea.

Following a number of more vocal-led releases, French deep house don Franck Roger returns to his tracky house roots with this latest drop on Seasons Limited. Kicking off is 'Mind Games', a swirling, peak-time house seducer built for late night floors and on the flip, 'I Can Feel Ur Love' stays deep but has a subtle skip to the kicks, while molten chords are draped over the beats and subtle vocal swirls marble the mood. 'Gerkin Moods' pays tribute to the legend Larry Heard, not just in title. It's got real emotional depth and a deeply cosmic atmosphere.

Lay Down The Groove returns with their first release in four years — and it marks a milestone. ChordPlay is the debut full- length album by the label heads, following their 2021 EP Pursuit of Sound.

Spanning seven tracks, the album captures a period of personal and artistic growth for the duo. Written and recorded across multiple studios and seasons over the past years, it flows effortlessly through tempos and moods while staying rooted in the pair’s emotive, synth-forward identity.

With a shift toward higher BPMs and more club-oriented energy — without losing the warmth and musicality that define the LDG sound dPlay signals a new chapter in the Lay Down The Groove story. Influenced by the rich legacies of Detroit and Chicago, the record features hardware-driven textures shaped by the Juno 6, SH-101, Prophet 8, Analog Rytm and MicroKorg.

Rooted in rhythm and feeling, ChordPlay captures Lay Down The Groove in evolution — looking forward while honouring their foundations.

Dr Strange was one of the alias of Erick ‘ADN’ Ckrystall’ circa mid-90’s till early 2000’s, when he was producing a sort of Leftfield-Trippy-Goa music, including a lot of Ambient stuff mostly released on CD on a series called Animorph. Everything had a very cinematographic touch like it was made for some documentaries about amphibians and snakes that would evoluate in the deepness of the jungle or on some exotic island...

The music was so magical, that the envie to do a mini-retrospective of the CD series came instantly, specially because none of those golden gems had never been printed on vinyl, It was also a good way to put into the light the Dr. Strange side of ADN’ Ckrystall which was kept in the shadow since many years and that deserves much more attention as the regain of interest for the goa scene has been rising in the last few years.
