Grand River and Sofie Birch are set to unveil their collaborative EP, titled “Our Circadian,” on November 24, through Melantónia.

The two-track release follows Grand River’s final release under the now-discontinued Editions Mego label earlier this year, and Sofie Birch’s two solo albums from 2022. Our Circadian represents the second collaborative release on Melantónia, a platform founded by Hanna Maria & Mattia Onori in 2021, dedicated to music for non-dance environments, featuring early contributions from artists like Polygonia, Plants Army Revolver, and Melantónia co-founders Hanna Maria & Mattia Onori themselves, amongst others.

“Our Circadian” was conceived remotely in 2021 during the lockdown, with the aim of encapsulating two distinct moments of those days – early morning and late afternoon – along with their subtle emotional nuances. The first track of the release – 7PM – conveys dreamy atmospheres that flow into colorful rhythms, recalling the electroacoustic nature of the label’s melancholic sounds. The gloomier 3AM, on the other side of a 7“ record, offers a timeless introspection of a gently intensifying synth sound’s fling.

Grand River, a composer and sound designer, brings her background in linguistics to her work. She draws inspiration from minimalism and ambient music, resulting in atmospheric and rhythmically intricate compositions. Her artistic pursuits traverse the realms of art and electronic music, exploring forms of communication that transcend language, often influenced by nature, scale, and movement. Grand River’s impressive portfolio includes sound installations at 4DSOUND/Monom and Terraforma’s Il Pianeta, as well as performances at prestigious venues like Barbican, Rewire, MUTEK, Le Guess Who?, CTM, Draaimolen, and Atonal’s Kraftwerk. She has also worked on remixes for notable acts like Tangerine Dream. Since 2016, she has curated the label One Instrument, offering a unique creative challenge to artists: creating music using only a single instrument.

Sofie Birch, a celebrated sound artist and producer, is known for her lush ambient releases, art installations, live performances, DJ sets, and her NTS show “Ambient Abracadabra.” Her sonic creations can manipulate space, infuse it with a profound sense of calm, and invite listeners to engage in meditation and introspection through the healing qualities of sound and vibrations. Her music acts as a conduit for understanding the complexities of the mind and body through artistic expression, characterized by a distinct emphasis on stillness, suspension, and sustain. Sofie’s soundscapes open gateways to dream-like states of perception and heightened presence, providing a transcendental journey into an alchemical biosphere. Her extensive repertoire includes performances at renowned events such as Barbican, Roskilde Festival, MUTEK, Unsound, CTM, Rewire, Monom, and Terraforma, as well as award-winning compositions for VR experiences and animated films, in collaboration with artists like Baum & Leahy and animation director Pernille Kjaer.

Maurice Louca & his band Elephantine announce Moonshine, shining brightly with a live, raw, collective sound. Maurice Louca's band is incredible: double drummers Tommaso Cappellato & Özün Usta, Piero Bittolo Bon on alto, Daniel Gahrton on baritone and Isak Hedtjärn on clarinet, Rasmus Svale Kjærgård Lund on tuba, Rosa Brunello on bass, Els Vandeweyer on vibraphone, Louca on guitar/lap steel/synth.

As Asher Gamedze puts it in his essay: "Abstract territories of freedom, always grounded, expansive, multiple, internally differentiated, and elephantine."

One of the most gifted, prolific and adventurous figures on Egypt's thriving experimental arts scene, Louca has in recent years garnered a global reputation through three previous solo albums and an expanding, evolving lineup of genre-defying collaborations. The Wire called his 2014 sophomore solo effort, Salute the Parrot, "remarkable music-dense, driven and splashed with colour.

For Louca, Elephantine serves as both the pinnacle of his wide-ranging experience and a bold next step in his development as a composer, arranger and bandleader, from Cosmic Jazz, African and World music to transcendental modal traditions. The music-from its pensive lulls through its stretches of hard-grooving hypnosis and moments of avant-jazz.

Selected by Jim O’Rourke for his Tone Glow list of 25 albums that “never got their due”, Org was founded in the early 90’s by Espen Jensen and Kjetil D Brandsdal who would later go on to variously record as Elektrodiesel, Noxagt and Ultralyd in the swirl of the highly active Norwegian underground. “Org" was the only album the pair recorded as a duo, pressed in a meagre edition of just over 100 copies which disappeared almost as soon as they were made, lodged in the memory of the select few who have managed to hear it in the years since.

Made up of three long tracks, the near 20-minute ‘001’ opens the album with an extended organ zone-out matched with scraping factory machinery saturated into a dense cloud of harmonic fuzz. There's something transcendental about the sound that intersects with microtonal Alice Coltrane (particularly the unfairly maligned organ-only edition of "Turiya Sings"), as well as Pauline Oliveros and Ramleh. It’s music that pulls you in subconsciously; before you know it, you're fixating on the uncomfortable grind of metal on metal, buried mechanical rhythms and liturgical organ vamps that wind between industrial cacophony and sacred ritual music. For its last few seconds, we go into a full death metal tearout that fades out before it takes full flight, a glorious wtf.

‘002’ connects between minimalist drone styles and shoegaze, distorting fuzzed organ into pliable, dreamlike warbles that end up sounding like Kevin Shields' ‘Loveless’-era glides, or even Sunn O))) at their most devotional. Never losing the numbing overdriven mettle, its a piece that sounds spiritually entwined with Matthew Bower's Skullflower - a minimalist re-reading of high-contrast guitar music that takes all the psychoacoustic power and none of the annoying posturing.

For ‘003’, subaqueous organ is joined by synth and drum machine, sounding like the inspirational spark for Religious Knives' screwed 'n chopped cosmic psychedelia. The choice of sounds links it to Antena's foundational electro samba recordings too, but the overwhelming drone - a constant on all three compositions - connects the music to minimalist spirituals that have simmered beneath the DIY/avant garde for decades.

‘Org’ sits heavy on the nerves with overproof levels of mulched amp worship and ungodly, palms-down organ chords and wheezing, bezonked lines of melodic thought. 25 years out of sight and marinading in the archives, with the benefit of hindsight we can better understand the role these sounds played in the development of music in the contemporary sphere. It’s an important piece of the puzzle, one that makes valuable connections that, over time, have looked progressively more faint.

November erscheint und während eines Urlaubs auf der kleinen Vulkaninsel Gomera nahe der Küste von Marokko geplant wurde, wo er sich zum Großteil in einem kleinen Raum verschanzte und nichts anderes tat, als zehn Wochen lang neue Songs schrieb. Uffe Lorenzen: "Ich hatte im vergangenen Winter die Gelegenheit, für ein paar Monate zu reisen und entschied mich, viel Zeit damit zu verbringen, den Ozean zu betrachten und Songs auf Dänisch zu schreiben. Ich glaube, ich habe meine eigene Methode gefunden und vielleicht sogar einen persönlicheren Blickwinkel. Ich denke immer noch, dass das Schreiben auf Dänisch eine Herausforderung darstellt, aber ich glaube, dass der ehrlichere Ausdruck eine ehrlichere Darstellung verdient, daher sollte der Name LORENZO WOODROSE, der wirklich nur für Leute außerhalb Dänemarks zwecks Aussprache gedacht war, fühlte plötzlich merkwürdig oberflächlich an ".Galmandsværk (übersetzt "Akt des Wahnsinns") enthält zehn Lieder, die in viele Richtungen gehen und sich anhören, als ob BABY WOODROSE, SPIDS NOGENHAT und DRAGONTEARS verschmolzen sind und zu etwas Neuem wurden. Wir haben zum Großteil Akustikinstrumente verwendet und versucht die üblichen Fehle rzu vermeiden, indem alle Songs mit einer einfachen Aufnahme von Gesang und Gitarre anstelle von Rockdrums und Gitarrensolos begonnen wurden und das Album zu einem ganz anderen Universum gemacht hat als alles, was ich in der Vergangenheit getan habe." "Galmandsværk" wurde mit einem analogen Ansatz aufgenommen. Das gesamte Album wurde auf einem Band gemischt, was bedeutet, dass kein Schneiden und Einfügen und keine Verwendung von Pro-Tools erforderlich war. Produziert wurde es von Uffe Lorenzen, Anders Onsberg und Anders Kjærsgaard im wunderschönen STC Studio in Kopenhagen und von Flemming Rasmussen in Sweet Silence gemastert.

"Tre Danser" refers to the three tunes on the EP and to Gangar's signature dance,
"The Tree Dance", where you lock your legs, lift your arms, and sway like a tree
with the wind.
The three tunes show the broad musical spectrum in Gangar's repertoire, from
the heavily arranged heavy metal composition "Fjellets melodi", after Ola Loseth
(Rindal, More og Romsdal, 1897-1978), to a tune rocking like a merciless freight
train, "Reinlender fra Aseral", after Gunnar Austegard (Aseral, Vest- Agder,
1884-1973). "Gammel vals fra Rindalen" consists of a beautiful and sweet melody
in contrast to a hard and mean riff, meaning that you have to listen very carefully
to realize that it is a waltz.
Front person and fiddle player Mattias Thedens grew up in a folk music family,
having played Norwegian and American folk music since he was 9 years old.
Saxophonist Oskar Lindberget is firmly planted in jazz tradition, despite his young
age he has contributed to no less than 18 recordings. Guitarist Richard Max has a
background as a drummer and hardcore fan of prog metal, he's the cause of the
syncopated rhythms and guitar riffs with heavy distortion. Drummer Henrik
Dullum grew up with rock music, first time exposed to folk music when he moved
to the big city Oslo from Trondheim. Bassist Jonas Thrana Jensen has a basis in
popular music and rock, finding Gangar to peek his interest to explore the folk
music traditions.

Erstrand's third recordings for Opus 3, this time with his quartet, which includes
one of Sweden's best keyboard players, Kjell Öhman, playing both the piano and
Hammond B3 organ. Lars Erstrand, who has been ranked as No.3 in the world on
his instrument according to Jazz Journal International, is also joined by Leif "Gus"
Dahlberg on drums and Tommy Johnson on bass.

A year and a half ago, Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen was declared a genius by Mojo, who described his music as a hybrid between Kraftwerk, Air, Tortoise and Serge Gainsbourg. While the debut album was created over a period of almost 10 years, the music on "Inner space music" has been composed and recorded during one intense month in January 2022 in Mathisens own studio in the countryside of Grimstad, Norway. Again, a number of high-profile musicians have left their mark on Rural Tapes' music, including The Dream Syndicate frontman Steve Wynn, PJ Harvey saxophonist Terry Edwards and REM guitarist Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey, both of whom are Mathisen's bandmates in the psychedelic jangle pop group The No Ones. Helga Myhr is a highly regarded Hardanger fiddle player and singer
She has participated in a number of ensembles and has played in a variety of
genres. In this work, originally composed for the 2020 Osa Festival, she combines
her roots in traditional music from Hallingdal with her distinctive form of musical
exploration. This release unites music and visual art on glorious vinyl, designed
by the award-winning artist Solveig Lønseth.Helga Myhr grew up surrounded by
folk music. Today, fiddle tunes are what lie closest to her heart:
"Fiddle playing encompasses infinite possibilities, and it is these possibilities that
inspire me when I create new music. People who know fiddle music well might be
able to hear which tunes or 'layers' I have used, but sometimes it is more subtle" -

The music on this recording was composed specifically for the outstanding
musicians who appear on the recording. Their exceptional musical and creative
qualities have had a profound impact on how the music sounds: "Malin Alander
has a fabulous voice that she can shape and stretch with amazing suppleness;
Adrian Myhr produces a warm bass sound, with lovely and intricate melodic lines;
Michaela Antalová has a superb groove, and she creates elegant tones on the
willow flute; multi- instrumentalist Rasmus Kjorstad adds compelling sound
variations and tasteful contributions on the Norwegian zither, octave violin and
Jew's harp", Helga Myhr explains.
Poems by Margit Lappegard (1918– 2011), from Leveld, Ål in Hallingdal, are
included in three of the tunes. Lappegard was a beloved poet who attracted
considerable attention with her poetry collection "Noko vil alltid lysa", first
published in 1988.
Helga Myhr's solo album "Natten veller seg ut" was released in the autumn of
2019 on the Motvind Records label, and was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy
Award (Spellemannsprisen). Myhr plays in several groups and ensembles,
including the band Morgonrode, which won a Norwegian Grammy in 2019. She is
also a member of Kvedarkvintetten, Dei kjenslevare and a duo together with Tanja
Orning.

RELEASE OF THE CLASSIC 1996 SWEDISH BLACKENED DOOM METAL
MASTERPIECE OF MELANCHOLY 'FOR SNOW COVERED THE
NORTHLAND'.The roots of Ancient Wisdom trace back to 1992 when the
project was formed by Marcus E Norman (Throne of Ahaz/Bewitched) in
Ume, Sweden as Pain', then Ancient'
After the release of the first demo 'In The Eye Of The Serpent' in 1993, the name
was updated to Ancient Wisdom' & the recording of the second demo, 'Through
Rivers Of The Eternal Blackness' swiftly followed in December of 1993. On the
back of this, a deal was signed with Italian label Avantgarde Music, leading to the
recording of the full- length debut album,For Snow Covered The Northland'. The
studio sessions took place in December of 1994, though the album did not see
the light of day until 1996.
'For Snow Covered The Northland' was a triumphant journey of atmospheric &
melodic blackened doom metal, with sombre & hypnotic guitar leads permeating
the album to great effect amid the anguished screams. Also utilising acoustic
guitar & piano/keyboard passages, the opus overall exudes an ambience of deep
melancholy & despair. The album was recorded at The Garageland Studio &
produced by Henrik Kjellberg, plus drum programming was made by Fredrik
Thorendal, founding member of Swedish legends, Meshuggah.
' For Snow Covered The Northland' has been remastered for this release &
contains a bonus disc featuring extensive rare material from the early years of the
band, including the 'In The Eyes Of The Serpent' & Through Rivers Of The Eternal
Blackness' demos, plus rare promo & rehearsal tracks.

“Who Do You Love The Most?” is the young trio’s third album in just over four years, and continues in the tradition of their two previous efforts; beautiful and evocative melodies, rich on harmonies, often rhythmically complex textures and a typically folk-like Scandinavian character with the occasional gospel feel. The album’s 10 songs are all Mulelid originals, except for a gripping cover of Judee Sill’s The Archetypical Man. Two of the originals are the trio’s versions of songs that first appeared on the pianist’s much lauded solo piano album (“Piano”) from last year. Kjetil André Mulelid (31) comes across as an exceptionally mature pianist and composer. The trio’s 2017 debut “Not Nearly Enough To Buy A House” received wide international acclaim, with writers most typically mentioning Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans. The praise continued for 2019’s follow-up “What You Thought Was Home”, with the Jazz Journal giving it a 5/5 rating and calling it “some of the most captivating music I´ve heard in quite some while”. All About Jazz noted the maturity of the work, feeling like coming from three well-seasoned pros. Mulelid grew up in the small village of Hurdal, and started playing the piano when he was nine, after hearing Chopin on the stereo. Later he did a bachelor degree in jazz performance at NTNU in Trondheim, blessed with top teachers such as Erling Aksdal, Vigleik Storaas and Espen Berg. He is also a member of jazz quartet Wako. Bjørn Marius Hegge (33) has been making waves on the Norwegian jazz scene lately, with his quintet’s debut album "Hegge" winning a Norwegian Grammy. He has his own trio as well, with pianist Oscar Grönberg and young drummer ace Hans Hulbækmo (Moskus). In 2019 he released "Ideas" with Axel Dörner, Rudi Mahall, Håvard Wiik and Hans Hulbækmo. Andreas Skår Winther (30) is, like the other two, a "product" of the fertile milieu at the Trondheim Conservatory of Music. Langen Ro, Norwegian Grammy winner Brødløs and St.Hanshaugen Steel, followed soon after. Now, the stage is set for something quite different. The Studio Intim Sessions, Volume 1, Sundstøl's fifth solo album, has taken a trip on its own, away from the cinematic Nordic noir and genre-crossing soundscapes we know, and ended up somewhere south of the Kattegat.

Mit der ”Lord of Chaos”-EP liefert die Originalbesetzung von Killing Joke ihr erstes neues Material seit

Thankfully he still had some of them saved on some old DAT tapes. A selection of original breakbeat hardcore that for one reason or another never got a full release. These tracks are breakbeat hardcore that featured on dubplates, and on mix tapes, but never got the full vinyl release back in the day! All 4 tracks are very Justin Time in style but the track JT Goes North has been on so many peoples wish lists for about 25 years now as it was featured on a compilation CD and nowhere else!

Just another repress here, nothing to see! That is of course a joke because this EP is proper fire! For many, Funky Sensation is their favourite N-Zo & DJ Invincible track…but for the rest it is this total classic “Take Me Away”! N-Zo & DJ Invincible had a sound that was distinctly their own, being able to take big vocals and pianos mixed with very jungle inspired chopped breaks but keeping the sound firmly hardcore. Take Me Away remains pure goose bump material to this day. With such a classic on one side it’s not surprising that the other side doesn’t get the airtime it deserves. Red 5 is another amazing track that shows off the style of N-Zo & DJ Invincible perfectly but this time without the big piano and female vocal. Don’t let that fool you into thinking that this isn’t really another A side in disguise. Once again you can hear the jungle influence in it, especially with the slightly darker tone, compared to Take Me Away.

This EP is Justin Time doing what he does best! Making anthems that are instantly recognisable, uplifting vibes without the cheese. Sweet In Pocket is one of those tracks! No matter were you where in the club or rave, when you heard this coming in, you knew the dance floor was gonna rock. It is a close fought battle between this original and the DJ Force & The Evolution remix as to which is better, and either could win on any given day! Movin’ is another great track from Justin Time and on any other EP it could have been the A side title track but when on the flip to such monster track you are to be overshadowed for sure. Don’t let that distract you from its magnificence!

Continuing the remastered, repressed series, we have two amazing remixes from Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter & J.D.S. First there is Just Another Artist – Rhythm, already an amazing track but under the guidance of Billy Bunter & J.D.S. on remix duties they took this track to the next level! Then they turned their hands to what was already an absolute classic, Sunshine Productions – Take Me To The Top. They took parts of the original track and turned the dial right up to the max, threw them back into the pot and added their own flare and style to produce a remix that tore up raves both back in the day and still today on the old skool circuit.

Not very often does a remix equal the original track it follows, but every now and again it happens. The thing is the original was already a monster track but somehow this, the DJ Force & The Evolution Remix of Sweet In Pocket came along and just blew up! For so many people, this is one of the best tracks ever to grace a dance floor and to say that it doesn’t still sound fresh more than 25 years later would be a lie! Then we have the flip side!
