Die langerwartete Rückkehr eines Kompakt-Pioniers steht ins Haus: endlich präsentiert REINHARD VOIGT mit RACHANEE neues Solo-Material - das erste 12'-Release unter eigenem Namen seit ALL IN von 2007 (KOMPAKT 168). Zwei beeindruckende Techno-Stücke rangeln hier um die Führungsspitze im Frequenzbereich, erfolgreich die altbewährten Methodiken des Künstlers aufbohrend für eine zeitgenössische Meute am Rande des Abhebens.

Was erste Eindrücke angeht, sammelt der Opener und Titeltrack RACHANEE bereits in den ersten paar Sekunden eifrig Punkte, dank des inspirierten Einsatzes eines hypnotischen Vocalsamples. Eine Lektion in griffigem Minimalismus, ist es vor allem dieser wogende Stimmschnipsel, der den Hörer ins Geschehen zieht - gefolgt von einer stoischen, aber überraschend funkigen Bassline deren Sex-Appeal eindeutig in ihrer Einfachheit liegt. Die DNA des Tracks weist ihn als Verwandten des Outputs von Voigt & Voigt aus - insbesondere deren wendiges Debüt-Album - Die Zauberhafte Welt Der Anderen' (KOMPAKT 274 CD 104) und die Verwendung von Found Footage und Collage-Ästhetik mit attraktiven Rhythmusmustern.

Der rückseitige Klopfer TISCH FÜR ZWEI hat eine etwas andere Mentalität und zeigt offen seine schwindelerregende Vorliebe für oldschoolig schleifende Synth-Spuren - erinnernd an eiskalte Klassiker aus dem Voigtschen Katalog wie etwa How We Rock' (KOMPAKT 72) oder - Supertiel' (KOMPAKT EXTRA 2). Als aufgebockte Reminiszenz und meisterhafte Wiederaneignung dieser traditionellen Kunst der Hirnschraube funktionieren die ausscherenden Synth-Bleeps hier prächtig - sie halten die Beats am Raten und sichern das richtige Maß an Irrsinn in einem Track der exklusiv nur nach eigener Pfeife tanzt. Hier springt keiner zweimal in den gleichen Fluß.

Snuff Trax celebrates magic record release number 010: - Happy Jackin Birthday!' For this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the label`s back catalogue. Leading us off, Mr White (you know him from his collaboration with Larry Heard) made an edit of Snuff Crew`s - Are You House'. Followed by Humandrone from Tokyo remixing Perseus Traxx - - Don`t Feel Alone'. On the flipside you hear a remix treatment for Raiders of the lost ARP - - Stealing My Love' made by our man Takeshi Kouzuki of Kobe/Japan. And last but not least DimDJ from Thessaloniki created his own version of - Galaxian Journey' by Elec Pt.1

Second installment from freshly launched FILM label comes from The Rhythm Odyssey and Knights Of Olde also known as Stevie Kotey and Dean Meredith. Together they created the powerful and bass heavy original 'Intro Theme". Hotflush Artist South London Ordnance delivers a darker approach of the track, while MUSK takes the track into the peaktime. Last but not least Uncanny Valleys Lounge44 comes up with a decent deep house remix.

One of the main features of techno music is that the music is not limited by geographical boundaries. This feature is well demonstrated by the second release of the Techno Gipsy label, which presents their works of techno artists from different corners of the globe. Two tracks from Swedish breakthrough Sev Dah are simply «dancefloor killers» - Shaban gradually increasing voltage and polished groove and Hamush hits right on target. Remix by Frenchman - Antigone sounds like powerful waves of pulsing bass and Argentinian Jonas Kopp presents two very different interpretations of the original, each of which is in his own original style.

matt karmil ---- worauf berufen wir uns was erlernen wir durch erfahrung was unterscheidet uns vom tier wer hat angst vor der freiheit wer bewertet opportun wer war hier pionier wahre kommunikation passiert nonverbal - point of view einer avantgardistischer wirklichkeit - einer temporären party. die welt ist nicht rund - sie ist eine scheibe. Nach Jahren der Arbeit in verschiedensten Bereichen der Musik wurde Matt Karmil fast mit der Veröffentlichung seiner ersten eigenen 12 " gezwungen - eine zufällige Begegnung mit Ada während einer Session der Kölner Band Cologne Tape führte zu der irr 15 - der Reverse Peephole EP. Mit Support unter anderen von Barnt , Dj Koze , Axel Boman und Michael Mayer verwandelten sich die Dinge zu einem überraschenden Start - " Ich habe noch nie ein Demo verschickt und dachte wirklich, es würde auch keinen die Musik interessieren, die ich nur für mich selbst gemacht habe, aber ich realisiere langsam, dass je mehr ich Musik auf der Grundlage dieser Prämisse mache, um so mehr scheinen die anderen Menschen es zu genießen . " Der sozusagen Nomade Matt Karmil produziert und ist DJ seit Jahren unter vielen Alias-Namen in verschiedenen Formen, aber hat nun den Flow und den Sound, der ihn in eine rosige Zukunft schreiten lässt. Releases auf Tim Sweeney`s Beats In Space , der a lot to share 12" (PNN06) , die geheimnisvolle HAF001 und nun sein Debüt- Album auf PNN (PNN07) werden ihr übriges tun, dass 2014 ein sehr spannendes Jahr für Matt Karmil sein wird.

#3 Live Act of 2013 at Resident Advisor, one of the most in demand remixers around, a total of 156 gigs in 2013, releases for Rush Hour, Ovum, Macro; booked out months in advance from Berghain to Ibiza to the main electronic festivals ... KiNK: Arguably the world of dance music has not witnessed anyone else rising so clearly from bottom to top just by the centrifugal force of sheer talent. Being based in Sofia, Bulgaria, without a support network, a campaign or any media hype, his music alone - live and in the studio - created a momentum whose end we have yet to see. Lenin said: 'Communism is Soviet power + electrification of the whole country.' Hardly did Lenin suspect what an inspired take on these words could do: post-socialist techno. A child of 80's late socialism, KiNK grew up on the home computers Bulgaria's IT scientists had created by backwards-engineering Western technology. Fueled by nuclear energy on the edge of desaster, a whole generation of kids was trained to hack. Dance music gradually dripping in through early dial-up internet connections, the acoustic fingerprints of distant parties put Eastern producers from KiNK to Nina Kraviz to Vakula under a spell. Yet KiNK spent years of backwards-engineering the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and early Warp.

It's now almost two years since German producer Sawlin made his debut on Ann Aimee, but now he is back for a third EP on the Delsin sister label. Entitled 'Niedertracht', it features four more tracks of searing techno in truly uncompromising Sawlin style.

'Kontraktion' goes first with heavy metallic hits, lots of industrial machinery found sounds and thumping kick drums. It's lumpy, mechanical and stiff stuff that is slow and purposeful. The surface of 'Padjam' is then covered in squirming, scratchy little effects as syncopated drums swing deep down below. Eventually the thing gets fleshed out with some malfunctioning melodies and slurred vocal stabs yet still it sounds like no other techno out there.

'Niedertracht' takes up the b1 with a spangled techno track that has gurgling synths and fizzing drills all encased in a ravey arrangement of horns and windy howls. The broken sounding 'Weißhaupt' is made up of metal loops, punctured drums and rasping synths that sound like factories in melt down. This is truly inventive electronic music that's laced with a very real and unmistakable sense of industrialism, and proves Sawlin is one of the day's most exciting producers.

Their release on Kompakt at the tail end of last year was a big record for me and this follow-up has been getting incredible reactions in my sets. We're excited to bring it to you on Systematic as our #99 and keep a look out for the limited white transparent vinyl. Enjoy." - Marc Romboy

France proves to be rich pickings once more for the Minimal Wave label with this absolutely superb collection of "ritualistic minimal electronics" from French duo DZ Lectric + Anthon Shield. Crossing paths in Paris in the early 80s, Christian Dezert (DZ Lectric ) and Michel Lecamp (Anthon Shield) bonded over a mutual appreciation of The Stooges, Throbbing Gristle and Suicide and went on to record numerous albums together over a five year period. The focus of Minimal Wave's attentions on the Lickin' LP is the cassette Confessions D'Un Masque the pair released in 1985, with eight tracks lifted and remastered from the original reel to reel tapes. DZ Lectric + Anthon Shield's sparse yet manic approach, described as "challenging and hypnotic" by Minimal Wave, will appeal to fans of CHBB.

As per our collective minds; music is a universal language which is spoken and written around the globe. With his backpack loaded with records and his mind full of ideas, Tagtraumer has been exploring foreign countries and undiscovered sounds. Eight years have passed on his seemingly endless journey. On Speedy Ortiz's Real Hair, the band sets a course between the knotty discord of debut album Major Arcana and the pop bonafides of the preceding Sports EP. Recorded and mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie (Pixies Radiohead), the new EP finds them subtly adding new techniques to their songbook. Guitarists Sadie Dupuis and Matt Robidoux bring on additional guitar effects to color the roundabout feel of 'Oxygal,' while bassist Darl Ferm and drummer Mike Falcone hit hard to deliver the jump-in-the-pit urgency of 'American Horror'.From the vocal melodies to the no-nonsense guitar turns, this is Speedy's catchiest outing yet, drawing inspiration from contemporary Top 40 and R&B radio in addition to their regular arsenal of guitar rock. Traversing with an understated technical assuredness, the ambitious shapes of Steely Dan, the popping lounge funk of McDonald era Doobie Brothers, the sweet mourning of the Stylistics and Delfonics, and the exquisite song-craft and flawless harmonising of CSNY, Daniel Collas (The Phenomenal Handclap Band), Bart Davenport and Quinn Luke aka Bing Ji Ling have recorded an absolute darling of an album under the name Incarnations. They are three friends with enough musical guises, side-projects, collaborations and production jobs to fill the annual itinerary of your average musician twice over. When three CVs like these get together on a regular basis, it's only logical they speculate and hypothecate on the possibility of an album together. But, how to make those congested diaries synchronise? Bart lives in Oakland and Quinn and Daniel are in New York, all three of them are on tour for the better part of the year. One sunny day in Madrid, Spain, a plan was hatched and a proposal was made. Lovemonk, a small, eclectic and affable Spanish label, dangled the carrot that clinched the deal; 'find two weeks between gigs/productions/recordings and head down to this little place we know in Tarifa, Southern Spain'. A family-run studio, in a house 5 minutes from a wild beach and a short ferry ride from the coast of Africa; the perfect ambience for the fleeting melody and sultry grooves of the Incarnations debut album, "With All Due Respect". Arriving with bits and bobs of half-songs, grooves and melodies, Daniel, Quinn and Bart, sketched and improvised their way to the most intensely evocative songs you'll hear this year. Punctuated by a day trip across the water to Tangiers, all 9 songs were written and recorded inside a fortnight in October 2009 and laid to rest while our protagonists jetted off to their respective diary appointments. Whether it was the beach, the soft weather, the fact that you can smell Africa from the studio, the home cooked Spanish food or the relaxed environment of the recording room, when the band returned to the songs at a New York studio earlier this year, they found an album as fresh and resonant as the moment it came into being. Quickly mixed down with no over-dubs or re-records, "With All Due Respect" captures the combined gifts of Tarifa and the three very talented friends that paid a visit. Struments Records opens 2014 presenting ''Fire to the Empire'', third record in 12'' format from this Barcelona label. Following the special dedication referred to the local talent shown by the label in its two previous releases, in this occasion the reference is signed by Clip!, relevant artist in the Spanish electronic scene that, after a versatile and prolific 2013, shows in this publication a new coordinate of their chameleonic sound. Thereby opening the door to more visceral coordinates, opaque and less intense dance that exudes less kindness and infects the club atmosphere with light and dark. The set, consisting of three original songs (Fire, Ash and Bitch), and a remix of ''Ash'' by the British artist Kommune1, discovers on side A two descriptive and powerful snapshots of translucent clubber atmosphere, winding and unfiltered. Proper of the dance hours closer to twilight in the shadows and lights mergers into sensations. While on the B side, the artists pays tribute to the most evasive and escapist concept that music can evoke, forged between the rage of techno and the subtlety of house, when instinct takes control over any convention and presents itself as a purely physical experience between the listener and the sound. Closing the total minutes of the reference, Kommune1 prints cosmic and expansive notes to ''Ash'', as well as he brightens the original version. ''Fire'', the central tune that starts and gives name to this third reference of Struments Records responds to six minutes that shapes a direct and powerful presentation letter. In which you can acknowledge progressive melodic phases and raw vocals that serve as a growing force of initial contact. ''Ash'' continues the incursion between hard and chiaroscuro dynamic, printing analog rhythm coordinations. ''Bitch'' represents the exact balance and highlight of ''Fire Your Empire'' EP, sobriety in enviromental nuances, vocal flare and power high-flying shape a depth completely orientated to the dance floor that condenses much intention in a speech coherently aligned with the sound. Kommune1 sets ''Ash'' with an eye towards fantasy and space, using resources in the original maximalist melodies and rhythmic accelerating phases provide the remix to get faster.

JUSTUS KÖHNCKE & THE WONDERFUL FREQUENCY BAND - his first major release in five years after SAFE AND SOUND (Kompakt CD 63) - is JUSTUS KÖHNCKE's long-awaited return to the full-length format: neatly coinciding with Kompakt's exuberant 20th anniversary activities, the leftfield house virtuoso, former Whirlpool Productions member (see "From: Disco To: Disco") and producer of seminal cuts such as "Was Ist Musik", "2 After 909" or "Timecode" hits the floors with an entirely new set of future classics, remedying desolate crowds in dire need of a party to remember.

With France's long-fallow club scene back in international resurgence as Paris storms back into fighting form, Europe now has found a new source for yet-unheard music. It was a long time brewing, but names like Concrete, Katapult, Zadig, and Society of Silence, have begun to appear in the international clubbing circuit, and the growth is not limited to the capital. Further south in Lyon, a city quickly gaining its own renown for busy club parties booking bigger names, there exists a smaller circle of energetic operators whose name is also spreading rapidly and whose recent accomplishments include Nuites Sonores, Boilerroom and more. Spearheaded by Kosme, a DJ and producer of quickly increasing notice, the provincial powerhouse has already turned heads throughout France as Kosmo's Caramelo Records was snapped up by legendary Parisian distributor Syncrophone; he has a new label set to launch in 2014. It is with this background in mind that THEMA proudly offers Kosme's international debut, the 'April Moon' EP.

Kosme comes to the table with six tracks of low-slung Detroit-referencing house music laced with extra grit. 'Fondamental' rides shuffling hats and a building acid line to dramatic heights. 'Ever Shake My Mind' is slower and dirtier yet, with crushed hats and a bottom-lurking bass between Theo Parrish-esque drum-machine-down-the-stairs breakdowns. After an interlude, 'Mothafunka' resumes the beatdown with a talkover house track that escalates uncontrollably in intensity as drums shuffle before breaking down in congos & pads. 'Deep Function' dials down to sexier sounds with sultry vocal samples and sampled hiss, but it doesn't lose the drum kink. Finally the digital bonus 'A Thought for Yvonne' is the most subdued and skeletal of all with echoed drums and a lonely bassline tumbling over each other in slow motion.

Following the explosion of new sounds from the capital, it is no surprise to find the movement spreading, and THEMA arrives first with the freshest France has to offer.

The German producer Team Shuko & F. (of Audiotreats) are back with their third part of the Cookies & Cream series. After releasing the second part producer Shuko had multiple productions to catch the audience's attention.

He was by producing beats for well known rappers like Talib Kweli & Ra the Rugged Man. He also participated in production for platinum-albums of french rap crew 1995 & also Sexion D'assault, which both became No.1 in the French Charts this Summer.

He also worked on german rap-phenomenon Cro's #1 Album in Germany & co-produced a track for the newcomers of GENETIKK, who stepped on the scene of german HipHop quite recently with a #1 chart entrance. The JBG2 album of Farid Bang & Kollegah sold 80.000 units via Selfmade Records in first week in Germany, containing eight productions by Shuko on the album.

Shuko did also please his backpacker-fans by releasing his collabo with westcoast-MC Blu via JAKARTA RECORDS as a strictly limited 10inch LP. F, who is also part of the Audiotreats producer-team created beats for acts like Chima, Joy Denalane & Dendemann.

The third part of Cookies & Cream series is soulfull & eclectic as his preceding LPs & shows instrumental HipHop music as it's best & lifts german productions into the company of the worldwide beat-scene.

album from Brazilian DJ, producer, club and label boss Renato
Ratier. After emerging with some already impressive EPs, the
time has now come for a full artistic statement that spans 17
tracks of slo mo electronics, deep house ambiance and tripped
out, disco inflected grooves.
Rather than this being a collection of dancefloor tracks, its
more a carefully programmed journey that takes you up and
down through many different moods and grooves, but all of
them untied by Ratier's analogue textures, unfamiliar hooks
and futuristic melodies.
Opening with the found sound recordings and muffled ambiance
of 'Love Me Tokyo' the album goes through the funky licks of
'Jamaicanese', the well-sampled 'Midnight Sun' and freewheel-
ing deep house and ethereal melodies of 'Teatime'. The latter
half of the album points more towards the dancefloor with the
title track's knotted bassline, the deep and spaced out house
hypnosis of 'Fetisshu' and plenty more besides. It's a stunning
debut from one of Brazil's most important figures.

Long serving Cadenza recording artist, Mirko Loko, has always worn his Detroit musical influences on his sleeve, counting pioneer Carl Craig as his mentor, and having worked with the likes of Derrick May and Stacey Pullen in the studio.

And on Daybreak, Mirko fully indulges in the one genre that seems never to get tarnished, the mechanical and industrial beats working off the deep and soulful strings and melancholic pads, a true hallmark of the classic sounds of the Motor City. Originally released on Outpost Recordings, the label run by Scottish techno don, Funk D'Void, the masterful Original Mix from Takuya Yamashita gets three new versions from Mirko. Takuya, a techno artist from Kobe, Japan has already sparkled on labels like Biotech and Espai, and in his Original version we have a driving and energetic piece of classic techno. Mirko remains ever faithful to the melody and sounds of the original, providing a full beats re-rub on the 'Mn version', and an alternate 'Taiy version' that's more urgent, with its broken beat. The digital only 'Kanj no' version dispenses of a backbeat entirely, creating a remix that forever teases with it's percussive elements, building up great anticipation throughout. As Cadenza continues to celebrate its 10th year as a label, it takes delight in backing great music from its artists and associates, and this release is another curveball in the label's eclectic catalogue.

Daniel Lopatin, Sohn russicher US-Einwanderer, hat sich als Oneohtrix Point Never mit experimenteller Elektronik einen Namen als talentierter Komponist erarbeitet. Er veröffentlichte drei Alben auf Minilabels, arbeitete mit Antony Hegarty als Sänger und mit Animal Collective als Festivalhoster (ATP) zusammen und schrieb neben Brian Reitzell die Musik zu Sofia Coppolas jüngstem Film "The Bling Ring". Lopatins musikalisches Schaffen wird von Kritikern mit einem zerbrochenem Spiegel verglichen, in dem sich Klänge aus der Vergangenheit brechen. Auch auf seinem Warp-Debüt "R Plus Seven" blinkt seine Neigung zum Experimentellen immer hervor, zeitgleich wagt er sich so nah wie nie zuvor an traditionelle Songstrukturen heran, so dass die zehn neuen Tracks zu gleichen Teilen aufwühlerisch wie hypnotisch wirken.

SVS Records was set up by Beni Brachtel and Daniel Hermann-Collini as an imprint of Brachtel's sister project Selbstversorgersound (SVS). A compilation titled "SVS 1" was released in Oct 2012. Das Ergebnis ist ein zeitloses House-Juwel, das sich durch warme Flächen und elegante Percussion auszeichnet. Einmal mehr wird hier der Beweis erbracht, daß elektronische Musik eine Frage sowohl der Präzision als auch der Emotion ist - für jedes Klub-Release ein anspruchsvoller Balanceakt. Was auch der Grund für unsere Begeisterung über eine äußerst gelungene Platte ist.
