Selection of IKIGAI Album by Nadia Struiwigh. IKIGAI was born in the quiet space between grief and remembering... Made entirely on hardware, from my living room in Berlin near Hermannplatz (my dad's name is Herman -- the odds), in the months my father passed away. Every sound, every sequence, every texture carries his fingerprint. Not because he made music, but because he made me love gadgets. Circuits, signals, blinking lights. He was the man who opened me up to machines and taught me how, eventually, to listen to them and use them for my craft. The name IKIGAI, a Japanese word for ''reason for being,'' found me when I was at a crossroads. The kind where you ask yourself: Why am I still here? What am I still creating for? What part of me still believes in beauty when everything feels like it's falling apart? These pieces came through slowly, on Japanese gear like Yamaha SEQTRAK, KORG, Roland -- like threads weaving a tapestry I didn't know I was making. Each track is a kind of purge... to him, to myself, to the listeners who find themselves in the in-between. The space where you're not who you were, and not yet who you're becoming. I found myself back into soundscapes and Ambient with a touch of Electronica. I weaved in sounds I captured from daily life, memories -- like the laugh of my sister. I built in silence and let the machines cry for me and let them tell the story I couldn't find the words for. IKIGAI is spacious. It's not trying to impress anyone. Dam Swindle present ‘House of House’, a triple vinyl V/a compilation marking the one-hundredth release milestone on Heist Recordings, landing on 8th May 2026. Across nineteen all-new tracks, ‘House of House’ reads like a roll call of modern house royalty.
The compilation features contributions from scene legends and contemporary torchbearers alike, including Kerri Chandler, Two Soul Fusion (AKA Louie Vega & Josh Milan), Folamour, Cinthie, Kolter, DJ Sneak, and Supershy, the dance music alias of Tom Misch, alongside rising talents like Papa Nugs, Lolu Menayed, and many more.

The King of K-Pop Returns!

To those unfamiliar, G-Dragon is regarded by many as the Godfather of K-Pop. Rising to fame in the mid-00’s with his group, Big Bang, that later went on to become one of the world’s biggest selling boy groups. He quickly stood out with his unique and intricate songwriting as the leader of the group. A talented songwriter and trendsetter within the youth culture and fashion space, G-Dragon has received a bevy of awards, nominations for his music and fashion sense from the World Music Awards, to Hypebeast’s 100 list, to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, it’s apparent that G-Dragon has cemented his place in cultural relevance.

After serving his mandatory South Korean military service and a brief hiatus from music, the global superstar, G-Dragon has returned! He announced that he signed with indie-powerhouse, EMPIRE, and released his first comeback single on October 31, 2024 with POWER to immediate global fanfare and buzz, with the music video garnering over 44 MILLION views in a month and over 115 MILLION global streams. He soon followed that up with an electrifying performance at the 2024 MAMA Awards show in Osaka coupled with the release of his new single, Home Sweet Home which has garnered 100 MILLION global streams since release.

Nichts auf Wired klingt stagnierend, kein Teil wirkt unausgereift. Die Band ließ sich von einer Vielzahl abenteuerlustiger Vorbilder inspirieren (R.E.M., Interpol, Smashing Pumpkins, um nur einige zu nennen), ohne jemals wie eine dieser Bands zu klingen - und auch nicht wie eine Kopie ihrer selbst. Der Albumtitel fasst all das in einem einzigen Wort zusammen. Die texturalen Konnotationen von "Wired" - metallisch, scharf, zackig - spiegeln die stählernen Klangwelten des Albums wider. Auf konzeptioneller Ebene spricht der Titel für die unerschütterliche Zähigkeit der Band: eine analoge Band, die in einer immer digitaleren Welt erfolgreich bleibt, ohne sich auf nostalgische Bequemlichkeit zu verlassen. Fünf Freunde, die mehrere Trennungen und Neuanfänge überstanden haben und dabei als Menschen und musikalische Einheit gewachsen sind. Basement müssen ihr Schicksal akzeptieren: Sie sind einfach dafür gemacht.

Es war eine einfache Idee: ein Festival zu schaffen, das brillante Musik und Kunst aus aller Welt vereint, entstanden außerhalb des Mainstreams entstanden – Musik, die nicht im Radio gespielt wurde und in Plattenläden noch schwerer zu finden war... Das allererste WOMAD-Festival fand am Wochenende vom 16. bis 18. Juli 1982 in Somerset, Großbritannien, statt. Mit dem Traum, „Weltmusik nicht nur als Beigabe zu einem Rockfestival zu präsentieren, sondern zu beweisen, dass diese großartigen Künstler selbst Headliner sein können”.

An den drei Tagen fand im Showering Pavilion auf dem Festivalgelände eine „Abendkonzertreihe“ statt. Am Freitagabend traten Tian Jin (eine Gesangs- und Tanzgruppe aus China), Simple Minds und Peter Gabriel mit einem „speziellen Festival-Set mit Nicht-Album-Material“ auf.
Live at WOMAD 1982 ist eine Aufnahme dieses Freitagabendkonzerts. Bei dem Nicht-Album-Material handelt es sich um sieben der acht Songs, aus denen das Album Peter Gabriel 4 (Security) bestehen würde. Ein Album, das erst zwei Monate später veröffentlicht werden sollte.

Peter Gabriels Live at WOMAD 1982 versetzt uns nicht nur zurück in die Geburtsstunde eines Festivals, das mittlerweile mehr als 160 Ausgaben in 27 Ländern veranstaltet hat, sondern auch in die Premiere eines Albums mit Songs wie "The Rhythm of the Heat", "San Jacinto" und "Shock the Monkey", die zu zentralen Werken im Schaffen Gabriels geworden sind. „Live at WOMAD 1982“ ist mehr als nur ein Live-Album, es ist ein entscheidender Moment, der zum ersten Mal auf CD und LP erhältlich ist.

Mit Maaya präsentiert Ami Yerewolo, die bedeutendste weibliche Hip-Hop-Stimme Malis und eine zentrale Figur des westafrikanischen Rap, ihr neues Studioalbum. Maaya ("Menschlichkeit") verbindet die rohe Energie modernen Hip-Hops mit traditionellen malischen Instrumenten wie Kamalé Ngoni und Tamani. Das Ergebnis ist ein kraftvoll geerdeter, zugleich zeitgenössischer Sound, der Amis künstlerische Identität präzise widerspiegelt. Als Rapperin, Produzentin und Gründerin eines eigenen Frauen-Rap-Festivals hat sich Ami Yerewolo gegen gesellschaftliche Widerstände durchgesetzt und eine Vorreiterrolle für eine gesamte Generation junger afrikanischer Künstlerinnen übernommen. Ihre Texte thematisieren Resilienz, Selbstbestimmung und den Mut, gegen konservative Normen aufzustehen - Botschaften, die weit über Mali hinaus Wirkung entfalten. Mit Gastbeiträgen von Jah Moko und Mina la Voilée erweitert Maaya seine musikalische und emotionale Tiefe. Das Album ist vollständig unabhängig produziert und überzeugt durch Authentizität, Haltung und eine klare, unverwechselbare Stimme.

Primordial Mind forms the mysteries and intensity of inner life into eight mandalic instrumentals where Mas Aya and Khôra, artists who share 15 years of music making, orchestrate an inspired, prismatic palette of percussive and melodic sources. Each composition presented stages a vigorous meshwork of colours and textures, contrasting riveting polyrhythms with towering arrangements for flutes, synths, and processed acoustic instruments. Tendencies which the artists trace in their solo practices are amplified, blended, and refracted sublimely in unison, serving as energetic portals to the collective awareness.

Combining trans-ethnic scaling alongside a heady brew of rhythmic influences and advanced electronic processing, the recordings on this album operate with a tactility that vaults between free jazz, dub, raga, ambient, and ritual music. Assimilated powers of primal drum patterning and psychoactive, ceremonial melodies, invoke fourth world adjacencies with the work of Don Cherry, Jon Hassell, Popol Vuh et al. There is an alchemical, Buddhist/Taoist/Hindu inflection that guides the record’s narrative, formed through dialogue between the artists over lifelong shared interest in spiritual modalities generally and the tantric approaches of the global east in particular. The album title is derived from an unexcelled esoteric work known as the Kalachakra (Wheel of Time)Tantra and its associated commentary the Ornament of Stainless Light which detail forms of inner and outer transubstantiation within its complex cosmology and metaphysiology.

Mas Aya is the moniker of Brandon Miguel Valdivia, acclaimed Nicaraguan-Canadian composer, producer, and musician whose electronic and jazz inspired works creatively interlace Colombian, Cuban, and a wide array of traditional music. Khôra is the name of the occult entity that uses multi-instrumentalist, producer, and writer Matthew Ramolo to pronounce itself. Returning to Marionette following 2024's monumental Gestures of Perception, Primordial Mind reinforces the rigorous and magical approach to creation which defines Khôra’s two decades of sonic output. Brandon and Matthew met back in 2011 and the pair toured around eastern Europe with Toronto band Picastro in 2013, also performing as a duo with Brandon contributing drums to Khôra's opening sets. After a short spate composing and playing in the ensemble Bespoken together, they continued to discover shared inspiration in psych/art rock, jazz, experimental and electronic music, providing a fertile soil for friendship and collaboration resulting in their collaged, lo-fi album Tangled Roots in 2017. Mythic and talismanic, the duo's Marionette debut weaves a luminous tapestry of organic pulses, offering itself as a support for resonant meditation and a motor for lucid action and intuition.

Das 1990 erschienene 4AD-Debütalbum von His Name Is Alive festigte die Stellung der Band innerhalb der bereits etablierten, ätherischen Klangtradition des Labels, indem es dessen Sound neu erfand und durch ein Prisma brach. Ein zartes und leicht entrücktes Dream-Pop-Album, das nahezu zehn Jahre von Defevers Heimaufnahmen bündelt - zusammengeführt zu einem eindringlichen Gesamtklang durch den geisterhaften, femininen Gesang von Karin Oliver. Produziert und gemischt von Ivo Watts-Russell sowie dem This Mortal Coil-Kollaborateur John Fryer, ist das Album ein kraftvolles Eröffnungsstatement, das mit rauschhaften Refrains und texturierten Gitarrenklängen Neugier weckt. Es behandelt die beiden zentralen Themen Liebe und Verlust, die taumelnd und wie in einem Traum vorgetragen werden.

Zusammenarbeit von Khruangbin und dem malischen Gitarrist Vieux Farka Touré zu Ehren von Vieux' Vater Ali Farka Touré. Der "König des Wüstenblues" galt als einer der renommiertesten und talentiertesten Gitarristen, die Afrika je hervorgebracht hat. Das Rolling Stone Magazin wählte den 2006 verstorbenen Musiker unter die einhundert besten Gitarristen aller Zeiten. In Alis Sound verschmolzen traditionelle malische Musikstile mit verschiedenen Elementen des Blues, wobei er in den lokalen Sprachen Songhay, Tamasheq, Fulfulde und Bambara sang. Das Ergebnis war die Schaffung eines bahnbrechenden neuen Genres, das heute als "Wüstenblues" bekannt ist und Ali drei Grammy-Auszeichnungen, weltweite Anerkennung und den Spitznamen "afrikanischer John Lee Hooker" einbrachte. Die Kollaboration zwischen Khruangbin und Vieux Farka Touré zollt Alis Vermächtnis Tribut, indem sie einige seiner wirkungsvollsten Werke neu interpretiert und mit verschiedenen Sounds experimentiert, ohne die Integrität des Originals zu vernachlässigen. Das Ergebnis ist eine würdige Hommage an eine Legende, die eine erfrischende westafrikanische Mischung aus musikalischen Referenzen schafft. USA Hardcore/Punk Geschichte! M.I.A. wurden 1980 in Las Vegas gegründet, zogen 1981 nach Orange County und begannen im berüchtigten Cuckoo's Nest zusammen mit Fear, Shattered Faith, T.S.OL. u.a. Shows zu spieln. Ende '81 gingen sie in ein lokales Tonstudio in Costa Mesa und nahmen an einem Nachmittag neun Songs auf, bis ihnen das Geld ausging - 300 Dollar gut angelegt! Eine Kassette wurde rasch kopiert und herumgereicht. Eine Kopie der Kassette wurde KevinSeconds bei einem Gig mit 7 Seconds in Reno gegeben. Kevin gab sie an Tim Yohannan von Maximum Rocknroll weiter. Schließlich gelangte sie in die Hände von Felix Alanis von Smoke Seven und Greg Shaw von Bomp. Mitte 1982 waren M.I.A. dann auf drei Vinyl-Veröffentlichungen vertreten: "Tell Me Why" auf der Compilation American Youth Report von Bomp, "New Left" auf Maximum Rocknroll Presents: Not So Quiet On the Western Front von Alternative Tentacles und acht der neun Tracks landeten auf der berüchtigten Split-LP mit Last Rites auf Smoke Seven. Alle 9 Tracks des ersten Tapes sind hier versammelt, zum ersten Mal richtig abgemischt. Der Begin von M.I.A. Art Bound launches its label with Ghost Signal Theory, a split EP by Brazilian producer Artürst and Georgian producer Toke, exploring a dark, progressive and electro-oriented sound where each track develops its own atmosphere while contributing to the overall flow and cohesion of the project.

Side A features Artürst with two tracks blending progressive grooves with layered textures and subtle acid-infused elements, delivering a hypnotic drive built for peak-time sets.

Side B is a three-tracker exploring Toke’s take on the Tbilisi underground, moving through high-energy electro and trance-infused passages, before closing with a deeper broken rhythm that shifts the pace and brings the journey into a more contemplative space, offering a final moment of suspension.

Josiah and the Bonnevilles is the band name for singer-songwriter Josiah Leming, a powerful acoustic performer and prolific singer-songwriter amassing attention from millions across the globe Described as "self-taught," Leming has been traveling across the United States since he was 17 years old, and even had a brief stint on American Idol in 2007. East London producer and DJ IZCO announces his debut solo studio album ‘POWERSCROFT’, set for release on 1st May via Brownswood Recordings. The album’s first single, ‘Strike a Pose’ featuring the vocals of Camille Munn offers an early glimpse into the project. To celebrate the release, he will go on a run of UK dates from March to May, culminating at London’s Jazz Cafe.
Named after the road where he grew up, ‘POWERSCROFT’ marks a defining new chapter for an artist who has spent the past decade shaping the sound of UK dance music. Drawing from jungle, broken beat, grime, garage, soul and dub, the album channels the energy of the dancefloor while remaining deeply rooted in memory, instinct and identity. It captures what it feels like to be inside IZCO’s world, where thoughts, memories and influences collide.

Hailing from East London, IZCO is a producer and DJ spearheading a new generation that is bringing soul back to the dancefloor. Shaped by the rich musical heritage of his hometown, he has developed a sound that feels familiar yet forward-looking, diverse yet distinctly his own. That sound has taken him across the globe, from New York to Tokyo, alongside standout sets at We Out Here, Outlook and Glastonbury.

IZCO began his journey making grime beats for local rappers including Capo Lee, Novelist and Reek0, before becoming a key figure in the UK’s evolving garage and dance music landscape. In 2018, he launched his long-running Rinse FM show and released his debut EP Tek 5, earning early underground acclaim. His production credits include PinkPantheress’ breakout track ‘Passion’, created alongside Jkarri, as well as collaborations and remixes for artists such as Katy B and Greentea Peng.
Beyond his solo work, IZCO is a label head, promoter and co-founder of the Brighter Days Family, a collective built on community, craft and cooperation. With ‘POWERSCROFT’, he steps fully into the spotlight, presenting his most personal and fully realised body of work to date. “This album is about channeling my true musical personality and character,” he says. “I’m marking a new chapter by paying tribute to my foundations.”
