Kölsch returns to his first home and Kompakt’s eternal Speicher series following a remarkably productive past 18 months that included his 4th full length opus “Now Here No Where”, a double single on his own IPSO imprint and remixes for the likes of Joe Goddard, Douglas Greed and Agoria.

Expect the unexpected this round from our man with the hat with the squelching “Woohman”. He rolls back the clock and brings back a spirit of RAVE, delivered in the way we adore his signature style most. The flip side “Speicherband” feels for us here at Kompakt like an homage of sorts to one of our founding father’s Wolfgang Voigt. The minimal churn of a technofied bass drum pounds forth, as a troop of horns call forth the return of unadulterated gatherings to the once empty dance floors across the globe.

Kölsch kehrt wieder zurück in die alte Heimat KOMPAKT und zu unserer ewig jungen Speicher-Serie, nachdem er in den letzten 18 Monaten außerordentlich produktiv war und sein viertes Album "Now Here No Where", die digitale Single “Hold/Clear” auf seinem eigenen IPSO Label und Remixe für Leute wie Joe Goddard, Douglas Greed und Agoria veröffentlicht hatte.

Mit dem druckvollen "Woohman" geht es los und hier klingt unser Mann mit dem Hut getreu dem Motto: “Erwarte das Unerwartete”. Er dreht die Zeit zurück und bringt den Spirit des RAVE zurück, und zwar auf seine ganz eigene und unverwechselbare Art und Weise, die wir so an ihm lieben. Die Flipside "Speicherband" fühlt sich für uns hier bei Kompakt wie eine Art Hommage an einen unserer Gründungsväter Wolfgang Voigt an. Dieses minimalistische Dröhnen einer Techno-Bassdrum, dazu ein Satz Bläser, der die Menschen zur Rückkehr auf die einst verwaisten Tanzflächen der Welt herbei ruft.

Born in Egypt, bred in Dubai and now situated in the electronic music hub of Barcelona, RAXON makes his SPEICHER debut with this double header that falls into line just past his breakthrough 'Destiny EP' on DIYNAMIC.

THE ANCIENT could be taken as a twisted modern version of YAZOO's 'Superstition' - subtle and bold this track bridges on the sexier side of electro-strasse with a gleaming dagger of nu-wave sophistication. His roots as one of the Middle East's biggest DJs shines through the 'Dark Light'. Mysterious minimal rhythms propelled with a sinister synth hook drives this track to a nowhere that makes you feel that you are somewhere that is right.

After last year's lauded 3-track EP "TOPINAMBUR" we're more than happy to announce ROBAG WRUHME's return to SPEICHER. On the A-side, Robag delivers a deep hypnotic chugger that goes by the simple but ultimately affirmative name "YES". In all its simplicity, it's one of those tracks that gently tosses you down the famous rabbit hole. The flip side "CALMA CALMA" is pure summer festival bliss, resurrecting the spine-tingling a cappella from C'Hantal's proto techno classic "The Realm" for the 2020's. Both tracks are 100% Robag... highly emotive, über sexy and yet somehow hazardous.

Nach der hochgelobten 3-Track EP “Topinambur” freuen wir uns sehr, ROBAG WRUHME’s Rückkehr auf SPEICHER anzukündigen. Auf der A-Seite liefert Robag einen tiefgehenden, fast hypnotischen Track, der den simplen und durchweg bejahenden Titel “YES” trägt. In all seiner Einfachheit ist das ein Stück, das dich behutsam das berühmt-berüchtigte Rabbit Hole hinunter bugsiert. Die andere Seite “CALMA CALMA” ist pure Festival-Sommer Wonne: Es lässt das A cappela von C’hantal’s Proto-Techno Classic “The Realm” wieder aufleben und sorgt damit auch in den 2020ern für Gänsehaut. ANNA returns for her third round on SPEICHER following an incredible year of non-stop touring the globe, remixing JON HOPKINS and contributing to a recent AFTERLIFE compilation. KITTIN (formerly known as MISS KITTIN) needs no introduction - she is nothing short of a trailblazer in dance music history by contributing countless times through her voice, music and DJing.

Together they are FOREVER RAVERS - dispatching a message of everlasting unity for the dance floor community. ANNA brings her most voracious production skills to date interwound with KITTIN sounding at her best in an explosive consequence that we can only describe as being a must-hear Techno hymn.

ANNA takes the original past the stratosphere with her RAVING IN SPACE MIX. Not to be misinterpreted as a dub version, ANNA keeps the potency of the original but expands the core instrumental elements that moves from suspension to release in a decisively throttling means.

CHRISTIAN NIELSEN is a musician you would not immediately expect to see behind the SPEICHER / KOMPAKT EXTRA crest. We love to surprise your ears and have enjoyed for some time his outsider approach to any genre he chooses to tackle. In particular with 'Hard Times' - a prime-time melodic monster that bridges the right transitions. Right when you need them to.
Berlin via Belgium techno juggernaut LOCKED GROOVE has been on our radar for ages thanks to releases on HOTFLUSH and AFTERLIFE. 'Dawn' is one of those magical tunes that loop along but evolves with every listen. You hold us to it that we think it could be the best set opener 2017 will have to offer. Intricate drums balance well with lush minimalistic melodies.
Our SPEICHER series rapidly heads towards 100. Where it goes, only we know - so savour the flavour while it lasts.

"An einem Samstag im Februar hatte ich eine großartige Nacht als DJ im Oval Space in London. In der Mitte meines Sets brachte ich '1-4 Doctor C'est Chouette'. Ein Fan kam zur DJ-Kanzel um mich zu fragen was ich spielte. Als ich ihm sagte, daß es einer meiner neuen Tracks sei, erwiderte er - zu meiner Überraschung - 'Da ist soviel Melancholie in dem Track, woran hast du gedacht als du ihn gemacht hast' Seine Frage traf einen tiefsitzenden Nerv: er verstand was ich gefühlt habe, als ich den Track machte - ist das nicht, worum's in der Musik geht Aber muss ich ihm wirklich die ganze Geschichte erzählen Es war weder die Zeit noch der Ort um ein tiefsinniges Gespräch anzufangen, also lächelte ich ihn einfach nur an und dankte ihm für seinen Enthusiasmus.

Für SPEICHER 85 präsentiert der Amsterdamer Tanzflurbeschwörer und produzierende Drahtzieher PATRICE BÄUMEL zwei hocheffektive Technoschieber die für jeden anspruchsvollen DJ auf der Jagd nach Momentum zur Waffe der Wahl avancieren werden.

In glühendem Rot gehalten, bringt SPEICHER 85 neues Material von keinem geringeren als PATRICE BÄUMEL, einem der meistverehrtesten Resident-DJs und Techno-Innovatoren aus dem legendären, leider inzwischen geschlossenen Amsterdamer Trouw Club. Aktiv seit den Mittneunzigern, verdiente er seine Produktionssporen auf so unterschiedlichen Labels wie Trapez, Get Physical oder Systematic, mit aktuellen Highlights wie dem exzellenten Remix für GusGus' OBNOXIOUSLY SEXUAL (KOMPAKT DIGITAL 044) im letzten Jahr, oder dem Labelsolodebüt auf Kompakt SPEICHER 81 (KOMPAKT EXTRA 81), einem rauen und energetischen Werk das sich als bewusstseinsverändernde Maßnahme allererster Güte entpuppte.

Two Irish acts crank up the volume for a healthy dose of sweaty, delirious techno

Starting out in 2001 to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, SPEICHER has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing KOMPAKT to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. For SPEICHER 76, two Irish acts crank up the volume for a healthy dose of sweaty, delirious techno - both acclaimed tracksmith CHYMERA and renowned Speicher favorite NAUM GABO hail from the green island... as is reflected in the color choice of this latest instalment in the series.

Für SPEICHER 73 haben sich Hollands Synth-Epiker QUINCE sowie der in Berlin lebende Techno- und Modekünstler TOM PETERS hinters Mischpult begeben, um in zwei meisterhaft auskomponierten Tracks der Suche nach dem Horizont zu frönen.

Weltweit von DJs zum Einsatz gebracht, sind QUINCE's Techno-Etüden ein bekannter Klang im elektronischen Kosmos, dank starker Releases auf respektierten Labels wie etwa DELSIN oder MUSIC MAN RECORDS. Seine Produktionen beeindrucken generell mit ihrer profunden Kenntnis der großen Skylines, doch irrt der holländische Meister hier ein wenig ab von seinem Kurs durch 4/4-Welten und verliert sich stattdessen in den weitläufigen Kellerkorridoren des wolhltemperierten Schaffelbeats. LOST baumelt fast acht Minuten lang von der Klippe und gibt sich ganz als kubistisches Märchen vom einsamen Helden im dunklen Wald: in Erwartung einer zu errettenden Prinzessin bahnte der sich einen abenteuerlichen Weg durchs Unterholz und berichtet nun von unermeßlichen Schätzen und Momenten großen Glücks. Schon massiv gut, wenn sich die eigene, jahrelange Live-Erfahrung so anstandslos in perfekte DJ-Munition ummünzen last.

Zwei Stunden nördlich von Berlin liegt Kartlows kleiner Ortsteil Unnode, wo der ansonsten eher umtriebig veranlagte TOM PETERS wohlverdiente Ruhe in den Alltag eines DJs, Produzenten und angehenden Modezaren einkehren last. Hier, in inspirierender Nähe zur Ostsee, entwirft er die Skizzen für die meisten Tracks; so auch für TAKE YOUR CHANCE, dessen Silhouette sich deutlich geprägt sieht von der Weite der lokalen Natur. Toms Produktionen weisen alle Anzeichen transzendentaler Melancholie auf, verfehlen jedoch nie das urbane Momentum: sein Beitrag für SPEICHER 73 präsentiert eine simple, doch weitläufige Melodie, deren Haar vom Beat elegant zurückgebunden wurde, Futter für die Beine und die Seele. Ganz wie die handgedruckten Botschaften seiner eigenen Modeserie SAVE FASHION, vermag nämlich auch Toms Musik auf dem dünnen Seil zwischen dem Einfachen und dem Mehrdeutigen zu balancieren... dream on, dreamer.

In its own way, Speicher on Kompakt Extra has always been one of the most uncompromising series in the Kompakt universe. Starting out as a mere compilation series to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, it has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, with Kompakt being able to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. That's also where we found the highly versatile Sei A, native Glaswegian, now residing in London and immersing himself in the hybrid house, firm techno and bass-heavy scenes that happily co-exist within UK's capital.

Michael Mayer returns to the Speicher series for his first release since last year’s brain-bursting The Floor Is Lava album. And yes, the floor is indeed lava when Mayer is on peak form, as he is here, with three tracks that oscillate, effortlessly, between the twin poles of Mayer’s music: dancefloor detonation and heart-wrenching beauty. To be fair, there’s more of the former here, but there’s beauty in generous discipline, too, and the unrelenting “Cry Me A Raver” feels, somehow, like it brings together decades of Kompakt pleasure in six giddy minutes – disco-fied arpeggios, glistening and hand-burnished textures, abstruse patterns that fall in and out of step. “Don’t Sync With My Tag” stomps with destructive glee, a beat as undeniable as the shaker cross-rhythms are silkily sexy. There’s always been something practical, functional, and utilitarian about Speicher, but it doesn’t get more everyday DJ-life than this: Mayer tells us the title is “a super-annoying message that pops up every time you open Rekordbox. Nobody knows what it means. It’s a DJ mystery.” But who needs answers, anyway? By the time you’ve started to get close to solving the riddle, Mayer’s taken you to Detroit via Cologne with “It Isn’t What It Isn’t”, a little doffing of the cap to Rhythim Is Rhythim. “You’re May, I’m Mayer, I used to tell him,” Michael chuckles. This made one of our cats almost jump out of its skin, with its stealthy slyness – creeping, amorphous electro noise; percussives that just won’t quit; the whole thing flooded with twitchy strip-light energy and silver-machine flare- outs.

Speicher is as Speicher does, and this is a damn good one. Make Mine Mayer!

Michael Mayer became obsessed with Erik Luebs, an American producer based in Osaka, after stumbling upon his independently released music on Bandcamp.
Luebs’ talent for creating high-energy, minimalist acid techno with impeccable, futuristic sound design swiftly earned him a regular place in Mayer’s sets. It was only a matter of time before Luebs made his debut on Kompakt’s Speicher series with this highly versatile EP.
‘Riding the Blade’ opens the four-track EP, showcasing Luebs’ signature punchy psychedelia. ‘Scarlet Viscera’ features a sleek, minimal groove that is reminiscent of the genre’s heyday in the 2000s. ‘Transform Into Glass’ emanates blissful Detroit vibes, and the EP closes with a real bang: ‘Sucked Through Tube’ creates a frenzy on the dance floor without the need for a single kick drum.
If you like your techno sexy and forward-thinking, there’s no way around the man from Osaka. Play it loud!

Two new faces on the label with the two-faced eagle! Both artists have been much respected forces on the international club circuit for a while. IDA ENGBERG is best known for her affiliation with Stockholm’s Drumcode and Truesoul labels. For her Speicher debut though, she’s tapping into a quite different sound territory. “Nothing Feels The Same” will go down in history as the first 2 Step track ever released on KOMPAKT EXTRA. It’s as sensual as it’s booming. Definitely one for those late morning hours. With “Pink Monkeys” is an EBM/sawtooth trance amalgamation of the highest order with enough psychedelic headroom for the festival season.

MARCO RESMANN’s deep involvement with the late Berlin club legend Watergate has made him one of the German capital’s beacons of house and techno. He’s one half of Lunar City Express and former member of Pan-Pot which speaks volumes about his stylistical versatility.”“RIMA feat. Laatz” he delivers a frenetic rollercoaster ride of a techno track. It’s radical, it’s menacing and super fun all at once – A truly one of a kind techno track. “Dimensions” is a low-slung electro bulwark full of intricate details to keep head and feet going in unison.

MARCO RESMANNs tiefe Verbundenheit mit der jüngst verstorbenen Berliner Clublegende Watergate hat ihn zu einem der Fixpunkte der deutschen Hauptstadt in Sachen House und Techno gemacht und weit darüber hinaus. Er ist eine Hälfte von Lunar City Express und ehemaliges Mitglied von Pan-Pot, was Bände über seine stilistische Vielseitigkeit spricht. Mit „RIMA feat. Laatz“ liefert er eine frenetische Techno-Achterbahnfahrt, die gleichermaßen radikal, bedrohlich ist und ungemein Spaß macht – ein wirklich einzigartiger Track für die Ewigkeit. ‚Dimensions‘ wiederum ist ein tiefgründiges Electro-Bollwerk voller komplexer Details, das Kopf und Füße sicher im Einklang hält.

Patrice Bäumel makes his most welcome return to Kompakt’s Speicher series and it’s exactly as compelling as you expect it to be. “Luce” is a slenderly pumping piece of minimal soul featuring the otherworldly voice of Chiara Gamo. Once more, Patrice masterfully demonstrates how little elements he needs to create suspense, density and warmth on the floor. “The Cave” follows the same mantra, sucking us into a mystique stalactite cave full of echoing droplets and enchanting whispers. We follow him blindly.

Patrice Bäumel’s höchst willkommene Rückkehr zu unserer Speicher Reihe ist genauso fesselnd, wie man es erwartet. „Luce“ ist ein schlankes, pumpendes Stück Minimal Soul mit der entrückten Stimme von Chiara Gamo. Einmal mehr beweist Patrice meisterhaft, wie wenig Elemente er benötigt, um Spannung, Dichte und Wärme auf dem Floor zu erzeugen. „The Cave“ folgt demselben Mantra und zieht uns in eine geheimnisvolle Tropfsteinhöhle voller widerhallender Tropfen und verzaubendem Geflüster. Wir folgen ihm gerne.
