Geplant war es von Omega damals logischer Weise nicht, die eigene Karriere in Genre-Phasen einzuteilen. So etwas machen später Musikjournalisten und Fans - und unter ihnen besonders die Statistiker. Nach deren Lesart gilt die zweite Hälfte der Siebziger als Space-Rock-Ära der ungarischen Band. Abgebildet wird sie durch die Trilogie "Time Robber" (1976), "Skyrover" (1978) und schließlich "Gammapolis" (1979). Zwar waren sphärische Klänge bereits davor und auch danach noch im Schaffen des Budapester Quintetts zu vernehmen, derart konzeptionell fokussiert zeigten sich Omega jedoch tatsächlich nur auf diesem Triple. Nimmt man die Erfolgs-LP "Time Robber" weiterhin als Qualitätsmaßstab, hielt auch "Gammapolis" mühelos mit. Die Kompositionen der Gruppe um Sänger Jànos Kòbor waren melancholischer geworden, die bittersüßen Melodien schmeichelten. Das galt besonders für den siebenminütigen Opener "Dawn In The City" ("Hajnal a város felett"), dem Titelsong "Gammapolis" und "Silver Rain" ("Ezüst esö"). Zwischen der westeuropäischen, englischsprachigen Version und dem ungarischen "Original" gibt es neben dem Gesang und der Sprache in der Titelreihenfolge und bei der Songlänge einige kleine Unterschiede. Minimal ließen Omega die instrumentalen Passagen einiger Stücke auf der Muttersprachenvariante länger fließen. Für die westeuropäischen Omega-Platten-Käufer jedoch hatten diese feinen Unterschiede keine Relevanz, kannten sie meist die ungarischen Songs gar nicht. Ebenso wenig dürften sie registriert haben, dass GAMMAPOLIS in Omegas Heimat mit fast einer dreiviertel Million Einheiten die am besten verkaufte LP der Band-Karriere wurde. Das deutsche Cover-Artwork wich jedoch von der ungarischen Version erheblich ab: Zeigte die Bacillus/Bellaphon-Variante die Silhouetten der Musiker vor einem von Flak-Scheinwerfern durchschnittenen Nachthimmel, war auf dem Pepita-Album offenbar die zwar futuristische, allerdings auch karge Welt auf einem fremden Planeten zu sehen.

The result is not so much a Ben Folds Christmas record as it is a Ben Folds record set at Christmas, a meditation on the inexorable turning of the calendar and our ever changing selves as observed at the most wonderful—and challenging—time of the year.

So entstand beispielsweise die kosmisch-wabernde "Ad Astra" als One Take während einer privaten Gartenparty. Die vier Stücke des neuen Albums, überwiegend ausufernd und mit langen Spielzeiten, wurden diesmal in ihrem Grundgerüst bereits im Juli 2022 an zwei Off Days während ihrer sehr erfolgreichen ersten UK - Tour in den Dystopia Studios in Glasgow, Schottland, aufgenommen. Da Acid Rooster aber bereits im Mai 2022 kurz zuvor ihr vorhergehendes Album "Flowers & Dead Souls" in Bamberg in Franken, nahe ihrer Heimatstadt Schweinfurt, aufnahmen, war die Studio Session mit dem schottischen Produzenten Jason Shaw von eher improvisatorischer Natur und somit wurden die Tracks ohne nennenswerte Vorbereitungen eingespielt. Zurück von der Tour und nachdem eine Weile verging, fügten die drei Jugendfreunde den live eingespielten Stücken in ihrer Wahlheimat Leipzig noch allerhand Overdubs hinzu, welche "Hall of Mirrors" zu einer äußert vielschichtigen, sehr psychedelischen Klanglandschaft werden ließen. Zu hören sind neben zusätzlichen Gitarrenspuren und diversen Perkussionsinstrumenten unter anderem Saxophon, Shruti Box, Synthesizer, Mellotron, Querflöte, Vibraphon und vieles mehr. Gemastert hat das Album der Grammy-nominierte Engineer Joseph Carra in seinen Crystal Studios in Australien, welcher unter anderem für die klangliche Veredelung sämtlicher King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Alben verantwortlich ist. Während der Arbeit am Album ist Joe wohl dermaßen in den Aufnahmen versunken und von den Klangteppichen in den Bann gezogen worden, dass er gar nicht wollte, dass es endete. Völlig begeistert vom Sound und der Musik des Albums rief er den Produzenten Jason Shaw in Schottland an, um ihm mitzuteilen, dass er seit Jahren nicht mehr an einer so wohlklingenden und interessanten Veröffentlichung arbeiten durfte.

The new release continues to expand on Sorey’s ongoing partnership with Diehl, now their fourth album together. The trio presents the McCoy Tyner classic “Peresina” from his album Expansions; “A Chair in the Sky” from the Joni Mitchell album Mingus; “Bealtine” from Brad Mehldau; and “Your Good Lies,” a contemporary soul song from the group Vividry. Predictably, Sorey completely deconstructs these compositions, extracting and shuffling sections of the original recordings while arranging them into elaborate forms that morph constantly and unpredictably. The program is played without breaks, magnifying its focused intensity while creating a prodigious sense of scale more akin to a tone poem than a piano trio performance. It’s yet another manifestation of Sorey’s profound musical wizardry. Vinyl.

Norwegian pianist Eyolf Dale’s lateral approach to composition is given full range on his beautiful new album. Featuring his trio with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, conducted by Edition Records artist Japanese maestro Miho Hazama, The Space Between Two Notes is a nuanced investigation of sound and space.

Eyolf Dale, the renowned Norwegian pianist and composer, releases his latest album, The Space Between Two Notes, his 7th album released under Edition Records. This new album elegantly reimagines selections from Dale's celebrated trio albums, Beingand The Wayfarers, with rich orchestral arrangements featuring the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, conducted by fellow Edition artist, Miho Hazama.

The Space Between Two Notes explores a mesmerising blend of jazz and classical music, harmoniously integrating the intimatedynamics of a trio with the grandeur of an orchestra.

The album is an exploration of musical intervals—the nuanced spaces between notes—which shape the auditory landscapes of Dale’s compositions. This approach sets it apart from traditional jazztropes, which often emphasize vertical structures, like chords and melodies. Dale, however, crafts his music horizontally, focusing on the relationships and distances between sounds.

Eyolf Dale’s approach to music is profoundly influenced by his rich musical upbringing and an early fascination with the varied textures of sound: from the intricate works of Pat Methany to the vibrant tones of Norwegian jazz. This diverse background informs his unique musical language, which is not confined by genre but instead resides in the intriguing liminal space between established musical traditions.

The album features not only Dale's pianistic finesse but also the empathetic interplay of his trio, including Audun Kleive on drums,whose sensitive accompaniment ensures the music's purity of expression. As Eyolf points out "One of the most challenging aspects, in my opinion, of blending classical and jazz elements lies in the delicate balance of the drummer's cymbals.” Together,they achieve a unity of sound that transcends the sum of its parts, further enriched by the poised bass playing of Per Zanussi andthe orchestral collaboration. This synergy allows the music to unfold naturally, each note and silence carefully articulated to communicate more than mere melody.

This record marked the realization of their signature sound. Nowhere is it clearer than on the album opener, "Blue Thunder," the closest a song can come to waves crashing on a beach in song form. Lyrically inconsequential, with a chorus composed entirely of "la"s, the track's power lies in a systematic build and break of intensity that reaches a Spector-like climax. It is the quintessential Galaxie 500 song, encapsulating all that was great about the band. With the Boston trio once again utilizing the bizarre genius of producer Mark Kramer, On Fire sounds like anything but. The guitars are warm blankets enwrapping Dean Wareham's vocals, percolated by the open percussion of Damon Krukowski and anchored by the emotion-laden bass of Naomi Yang. Songs like "Snowstorm," "Strange," and "Decomposing Trees" have an endless quality, without beginnings or ends, but rather frozen somewhere on a spectrum of melancholy. For the first time since its original pressing, On Fire is available again on vinyl. SITW’s fourth studio album is a satirical celebration of mistakes. A joyous lambasting of everyone and everything that’s wrong in the world, against the real-time backdrop of global uncertainty, corruption and political unrest.

A London Charivari. Rough Music. A gleeful old-fashioned cancelling. A Chaunter’s delight. 14th Century recording demons collecting mistakes in a sack. Women mugging rich merchants. Nettles being pissed on. Shit food at Lent. A terrible plan. An undoing. The aftermath of a car crash. Catching people doing something they shouldn’t. Nursery rhymes reimagined as death threats. Behind the sarcastic acerbic delivery, Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter convey thoughtful, essential interpretations encouraging us all to check ourselves, through the multi-layered music of cities through time.

This is about as far away from pastoral folk music as you can get.

In their typical wry city-weary style, a beady eye is cast over those committing wrongs in plain sight, with Kearey narrating a series of tales of people fucking up, or being fucked up, with some brief respite in Lavender - one of London’s oldest street melodies - the album being named after the 14th Century story of Tittivilus, the recording demon, who collects scribes’ mistakes (pokes) and the idle chatter of the “liars with their hairy tongues” congregation.

Despite this seriousness, the album’s working-class dry gallows humour carries a stoic “if you don’t laugh you’ll cry” feeling amongst the corruption, scandals and barefaced lies we all observe on a daily basis, with a warning that “only you can fix your deficits” and “it’s your words and deeds that matter…and let me tell you, they speak volumes”.

The core of the record imagines a sound of traditional London music, where the musical continuum is unbroken by the population decimated by the world wars, or by gentrification and social cleansing that has forced communities apart, and yet absorbs all the influences of all the communities that call London their home.

Carter and Kearey attempted sessions at The George Tavern, Whitechapel, and in Spitalfields, at Denis Severs’ House, and a restored weaver’s townhouse, carrying the aesthetic of the record in their heads as they moved from location to location, before settling into an old factory building and their own workshop. The resulting sparse and economical sound is harsher, more present, more essentially them. It is a mighty haranguing that demands your attention.

It has now been four years since our return to earth in "2020 back to earth". There we had found a cold and inhospitable place, humanity was inexorably channeled on the path to extinction. We therefore decided to flee immediately in search of another planet where we could dwell.
We therefore came to New Babylon, a planet inhabited by humanoids but also by monstrous and ravenous creatures. There are "giants" that march about raising immense clouds of dust, stealing and plundering everything from people. Giants much like our corporations, they know no defeat and have no weaknesses, at least apparent ones.
There are old warriors like jarek who wait for war to feel like heroes, to feel alive. They find their dimension within the battle, where the line between hero and assassin magically blurs.
There are pyramids erected by men who think they are gods and turn the things life gives them into weapons and death, changing their use and meaning. Little men who think themselves omnipotent, burying knowledge of how life works under piles of lies.
We find a myriad of slaves, surrendered to live in huge troughs. They toil at nothing and find meaning in nothing. They prefer a convenient lie to an inconvenient truth.
In short, we realize that we have arrived in a world very much like earth. We are aliens but in a certain way we feel at home. We want to know, to understand, to evolve. We don't recognize ourselves in this deceived humanity, we don't give in, we believe. Nature, life is wonderful but when one thing loses its usefulness life gently explains to it that it is time to make room for something else. This existence has already explained to the dinosaurs.

Nach ihrer Fertigstellung wurde sie zu einer Beschwörung. Aufrichtig und leidenschaftlich hat Maria McKee ganz einfach ein seligmachendes Erwachen erlebt, und in einem Crescendo der Prosa erschließt ihr neues Album "La Vita Nuova" diese Geschichte und skizziert eine bedeutsame und transformative Zeit in ihrem Leben, die vor Jahrzehnten begann, als sie in ihrem Wohnzimmer vorm Kamin mit ihrem älteren Bruder, dem verstorbenen, großen musikalischen Erneuerer Bryan MacLean, Mitbegründer der bahnbrechenden LA-Band Love, sang. Auf dem Weg dorthin war sie Leadsängerin der bahnbrechenden Americana-Band Lone Justice, veröffentlichte eine Reihe stimmungsvoller und eklektischer Solo-Platten, schrieb Chart-Hits, die die Charts toppten, und inspirierte die Hingabe einer treuen kultischen Fangemeinde, bevor sie scheinbar verschwand. Ihr letztes Studioalbum "Late December" wurde 2007 veröffentlicht, seitdem sind dreizehn Jahre vergangen. "La Vita Nuova" ist eine Hommage an Dantes Werk über die unerwiderte Liebe. Obwohl der unbewusste Impuls für die Entstehung dieses Albums darin bestand, den Schock einer der bisher größten persönlichen Herausforderungen für McKee, der Auflösung und Neuerfindung ihrer Ehe, zu verarbeiten, sind die Lieder progressiv und lyrisch dicht. Die Produktion ist orchestral und opernhaft und orientiert sich an McKees Lexikon der Ikonen - John Cale, Scott Walker und David Bowie. Es handelt sich also um ein Werk, das ein hohes Maß an Konzentration erfordert. Man muss vielleicht mehr als einmal zuhören, um sich mit der konfessionellen Erzählung zu verbinden, die im Subtext gehalten wird, und um zu verstehen, dass die "Muse", oder "Beatrice" des Albums innerhalb der Prosazeilen auch ein herzzerreißendes Phantom von McKees jüngerem, idealistischem Selbst ist. Und eine Metapher für die Jugend im Allgemeinen. Das spiegelt sich in den eindringlichen, kaskadenartigen melodischen Klängen der Joni Mitchell, die "I Should Have Looked Away" andeuten, und in der ergreifenden, nostalgischen Wehmut des Titels "Effigy of Salt" wider. McKee ist inzwischen nach London umgezogen. Die Orchesterarrangements des Albums wurden von McKee komponiert und arrangiert, die keine formale klassische Ausbildung hat und keine einzige Note liest. Aber genau das ist die Natur der kreativen Katharsis, die im Allgemeinen mit einem eigenen Willen arbeitet.

Obwohl "God of the Godless" mit der brachialen Kraft tosender Winterstürme und dem oft rauen Charme des Nordseewetters daherkommt, haben die Norddeutschen auch die cineastischen Aspekte ihres Sounds verfeinert, die sie auf dem Vorgängeralbum "Beyond Acheron" (2023) fest etabliert hatten. Over the course of a 70 year career, the pianist and composer established herself as one of the central figures of Australian jazz. Her crowning achievement Colours is a spirited and ambitious recording that captured the maturation and shifting jazz landscape of the mid 1970s Australia. Alongside other notable albums recorded mid decade including the 1975 self titled album by Melbourne's Arena (see Roundtable SIR014)) and Jackie Orszaczky's Beramiada (1975), the album signalled the countries transition from semi-acoustic jazz to electric jazz-funk. Regularly compared to the albums released on Creed Taylor's CTI label, Colours parallel these recordings with their clean production and spacious soul-jazz arrangements. In particular the crisp drums and processed bass heard on Bob James and Joe Farrell albums, the sprightly flute of Hubert Laws or perhaps the more sensual side of Flora Purim's vocals could all be suggested as a source of influence.

Continuing to celebrate and re-document Australia's jazz music legacy, The Roundtable are pleased to offer the first vinyl reissue of this seminal Australian Jazz recording. Carla Boregas is a Brazilian musician, composer and sound artist. By merging synthetic and acoustic instrumentation and techniques, Boregas builds up sonic scenarios driven by an invisible force, where the sensation of presence and discovery lies between density and delicacy. Her work spans composition, improvisation, performance, sound installation and radio art, and aims to transport the listener to different subjective perspectives of time and space, to invoke memories and to reflect about the nature-human relationship.

Carla Boregas writes: "Using a Tascam Portastudio 4-track cassette recorder, I invited three musicians to improvise alone with the sound recording of the sea that I did in Massaguaçu, the place where I used to live in Brasil. The recorder that I used had a defect in one of its tracks, therefore I could only invite two musicians – Vinicius Cajado (double bass) and Réka Csiszér (cello), plus the sea in another track. While listening to the tracks together, I felt a deep sense of absence ("ausência" in Portuguese). Perhaps due to their sonorous answers surrounded by the tape hiss? Because that's one of the symbolic meanings of the ocean? Maybe "saudades do mar, de estar ao seu outro lado"? Who knows – listening can be something very mysterious. Dame Area's highly anticipated fourth studio album, "Toda la verdad sobre Dame Area" ("The Whole Truth about Dame Area"), a collaboration with the renowned labels Mannequin Records and Humo Records.

Formed in 2017 within the vibrant underground scene of Barcelona's Màgia Roja club, Dame Area comprises the Italian-Catalan duo Silvia Konstance and Viktor Lux Crux. They fuse industrial-tribal polyrhythms with minimalist synth basslines, drawing profound inspiration from avant-garde masters such as Esplendor Geometrico, Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Einstürzende Neubauten, Can, Coil, Swans, Big Black, and Wolf Eyes.

This record represents a new phase in Dame Area's discography. It's a big step up in terms of sound, composition and ideas. This record it's the perfect representation of what they have been playing live the last three years and what most people know them for. Also it serves as a companion piece to 2022’s Toda la mentira sobre Dame Area ("All The Lies About Dame Area"), which had a stronger focus on melody, while this latest record is more aggressive and industrial-influenced, with a greater emphasis on percussion.

Tracks like the Suicide-influenced "Si no es hoy cuando es" and "Sempre Cambiare" are an onslaught of industrialism and experimentalism—formidable, volatile, and unpredictable avant-garde subversion. Silvia explains, "One of our biggest influences is doing what our influences wouldn't do. We're more into dynamics and structures atypical of electronic music, with changes in time signatures, starts and stops, and dynamics more typical of rock music. We use any musical idea from any genre. Some songs on the album are based on flamenco rhythms, others influenced by '60s experimental pop, heavy metal, or contemporary electronic music."

The confrontational "Vengo dall'aldilà" accelerates with heavy percussion, while "Tu me hiciste creer" builds into a rhythmic, transcendent noise of yelled vocals and hypnotic beats. Viktor adds, "This song took us more time to complete than any other we have recorded. It was a very organic process, evolving slowly from some instrumental percussive stuff we were doing live. Then we started using feedback as a rhythmic element (through a metallic sheet), and this was the first song where we incorporated this element, typical of noise-rock and experimental rock."

Elsewhere, "Esto Es Nuestro Ruido" represents a manic, eclectic form of contemporary industrial music, post-punk, and EBM. Silvia notes, "It's the first album we recorded outside a studio. Although we've been playing live with metallic percussion and floor tom from the very start, in the studio, with some exceptions, it was mostly sample-based until now. On Toda la verdad sobre Dame Area, all drums and almost all metallic percussion have been recorded live."

With a growing reputation as one of the best live bands around since their inception, Dame Area has toured extensively across Europe, performing at renowned festivals like Atonal, CTM, Nuits Sonores, Dour, and Fusion, as well as legendary clubs such as Berghain, Tresor, Apolo, and Spook Factory.

Das Experiment an einigen heißen Tagen des Sommers 2016 übertraf die eigenen Erwartungen der Musiker deutlich und schon waren PSYCHLONA geboren. Im November wird es in englischen Städten düster, kalt und nass. Doch im Jahr 2018 ließ das sonnendurchflutete Debütalbum "Mojo Rising" nicht nur insulare Mundwinkel nach oben zucken. Damit stellten die Briten auch die Weichen für ihre produktiven folgenden Jahre. Formed in 1983 by singer and songwriter Kirk Brandon, Spear of Destiny is known for its powerful and anthemic sound, combining elements of post-punk, rock, and alternative music. Their music often features Brandon's distinctive baritone voice and lyrical themes that touch on politics, history, and personal struggle. Spear of Destiny regularly tours and produces new material. Their enduring appeal lies in their ability to blend powerful rock music with thought-provoking lyrics and an engaging stage presence.

Nach vier Studio-Alben und einer Compilation waren die ungarischen Top-Stars Omega im Westen immer noch nur ein Geheimtipp. Eine steigende Tendenz bei den Absatzzahlen war aber zu erkennen, selbst wenn die Verkäufe längst nicht durch die Decke gingen. Darüber hinaus hatte sich die Band entwickelt, war live und in ihrem Erscheinungsbild professioneller geworden. Die Bacillus/Bellaphon-Verantwortlichen wollten Omega demnach auf jeden Fall behalten und verlängerten 1976 den Vertrag mit dem Quintett bis 1980. Und dieses zog mit Peter Hauke in die Offenbacher Europasound-Studios und spielte dort "Time Robber" ein. Die LP wurde im Westen Omegas Durchbruch. Bis heute soll sich das Album an die zwei Millionen Mal verkauft haben. Und dieser Erfolg kam nicht von ungefähr, lieferten die Ungarn doch erstmals ein komplexes, in sich geschlossenes Werk ab. Auf "Skyrover" wurden große Stücke gesetzt. Wieder zogen Omega nach Offenbach und produzierten einen exquisiten "Time Robber"-Nachfolger in Alleinregie, der seinem so immens erfolgreichen Vorgänger in Nichts nachstand. Nicht wenige Omega-Fans hallten "Skyrover" sogar für die bessere Platte, da sie die auf "Time Robber" manchmal noch etwas steif nebeneinanderstehenden Stilrichtungen elegant ineinanderfließen ließ. Zu einem Live-Klassiker avancierte "Russian Winter" - auf der ungarischen LP-Version mit "Lena" betitelt. Der Song ragte aus dem musikalischen Konzept mit seinen osteuropäischen Folklore-Verweisen heraus und wurde vermutlich gerade deshalb zu einem Fan-Favoriten.

In April 2023, there was released the first part of the Fluxus edition called Stolen Symphony. The year has come and gone and there is the second part of the Fluxus edition called Keep Together. At the centre of both parts of this edition was a broken piano, acquired by the Opening Performance Orchestra for the purpose of making live and studio recordings. During this time other new works for this broken piano were written by diverse Fluxus and non-Fluxus composers. In the spring of 2022, the Opening Performance Orchestra and broken piano participated in an event hosted by Mieko Shiomi. This was a new version of her early work Spatial Poem, documentation of which was presented at the 2022 Aichi Triennale in Tokyo. At present, broken piano lies in the open air in Prague and is subject to gradual decay.

These both parts of this edition contain 73 new and old pieces, live and studio recordings, finished pieces and scores to be performed, solos and pieces for ensemble, using classical and special instruments from 33 Fluxus artists, which have been played by 10 soloists and 4 ensembles. There are new essays and articles from 15 writers on the theme Fluxus, original photos and other documentation in the booklets.

Die US Death Metal-Ikonen NILE kehren mit ihrem mit lang ersehnten, zehnten Studioalbum The Underworld Awaits Us All zurück, das via Napalm Records erscheint.

Wieder einmal verbinden sie technische Präzision mit unbarmherziger Brutalität zu einer markerschütternden Death Metal-Attacke. Dabei beweisen ausnahmslos alle Bandmitglieder – von Gründungsmitglied und Gitarrist Karl Sanders, Schlagzeuger George Kollias, bis hin zu Sänger und Gitarristen Brian Kingsland Zach Jeter, sowie Bassist Dan Vadim Von – enormes musikalisches Können an ihren Instrumenten.
Das neue Album wurde erneut in Sanders' eigenem Serpent Headed Studios in Greenville, South Carolina produziert und aufgenommen. Für das Mixing und Mastering arbeitete die Band mit dem Produzenten Mark Lewis (Dying Fetus, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder) zusammen, der auch schon am Vorgängeralbum Vile Nilotic Rites beteiligt war und die gewaltige Bildwelt des Covers wurde von Micha "Xaay" Loranc gestaltet, der sich vom Jüngsten Gericht inspirieren ließ.

Den Titel für sein Album "Classical Soul Volume One" hat Pianist und Komponist Alexis Ffrench an klassische Hip Hop-Mixtapes angelehnt. Kurze Melodie-Fragmente aus Soul-Hymnen wie "Ain't No Sunshine" und "A Change Is Gonna Come" verbindet er, wie "Samples" im Hip Hop, mit seinen eigenen Kompositionen. Diese sind von persönlichen Momenten und Erinnerungen inspiriert. Alexis Ffrench sagt: "Dieses Projekt hat etwas von einem Rundumblick und ist auch das Ergebnis eines '360°-Prozess', bei dem ich zurückgeschaut, aber auch nach vorne geblickt habe". Der Tod seines Vaters war ein fundamentaler Einschnitt, ein Verlust, der nachhallte und Alexis neu auf sein Leben blicken ließ. Spectres have been stirring in the shadows for years now. Dark eyes watching from pallid faces. Siren songs calling to lost souls. In the blackest corners of the UK underground, a name whispered relentlessly amongst the faithful, first with curiosity, then soul-shuddering awe: Zetra.

Zetra is also the title of their striking debut LP. Ten tracks whose indefinable blend of shimmering shoegaze and pulsating goth-metal work deep beneath the skin, it is a masterclass in intimate dark romanticism and sweeping elemental beauty. It could be seen as a reaction to the geography of a strange new world, but also to the jagged topography of the human psyche itself. Is it a manifesto? A roadmap? A riddle waiting to be solved? Profound pleasure lies in peeling back its many layers.

Travelling alone, armed only with synths, guitar and drum-machine to compose, The Wanderers’ music could sound skeletal. Instead its early metallic bones have been fleshed-out with the electronic new-wave of Gary Numan and Pet Shop Boys and dreamy, droning guitars that hark to heroes like Slowdive and Sonic Youth as well as dark contemporaries Deafheaven and Alcest. As harsh as the truths with which they deal may be, these songs deliver beguiling brilliance.

Acolytes to spread the word of Zetra aren’t hard to find. British ‘contemporaries’ like Burner and Wallowing, Celestial Sanctuary and Employed To Serve have been dementedly singing their praises as far back as they can remember. Ursa Minor is a constellation in the northern hemisphere. The best-known element of the Little Dipper is the polar star, called Polaris, which is located approximately in the extension ofthe Earth's axis, so that it remains almost fixed in the sky andmarks the geographic north pole.

MOVIE MOVIE takes the listener on a cinematic journey in their songs. They combine elements of power pop, '60s, '70s, and '80s garage, classic, alternative, and glam rock, but they have a sound all their own, with afocus on strong hooks and melodic vocals.

MOVIE MOVIE was formed in NYC in early 2022 by Derek Davidson (formerly of THE ELECTRIC MESS), and includes former members of other popular NYC and internationally known bands, including Andrea Sicco (TWIN GUNS) and Frank Caira (THE ABOVE), with Alan J. Camlet (also from THE ELECTRIC MESS). They recorded their debut 6 track EP "Now Playing" (Ghost Highway/KOTJ), over the summer of 2022, with the addition of Dave Amels (REIGNING SOUND) on keyboards.

They quickly followed it up with a full 10 track LP, "Storyboards" (Topsy-Turvy), completing it in early 2023, and they toured Spain later that year to well-received shows and receptive audiences. Around that time they went back into the studio and recorded the 10 tracks that would become their second full LP, "In 4-D!" (Topsy-Turvy), for release in late 2024. Again, they emphasize their cinematic flashback approach in the sequencing, with a wide range of styles along the way, beginning with '60s garage, through pop psychedelia, glam, New Wave, post-punk, and even veering into stadium rock territory (in the best sense) by the end, all filled with ear worms and indelible vocal arrangements and harmonies.

The long overdue reissue includes a slew of extra material, including an unreleased ‘My Drug Buddy’ KCRW session track from 1992 featuring Juliana Hatfield, B-sides from singles ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’ and ‘Confetti’, a track from the ‘Mrs. Robinson/Being Round’ EP, alongside demos that will be released for the first time on vinyl. Singles such as 'My Drug Buddy' and the breezy perfect pop of the title track might stand out (plus the add-on of 'Mrs. Robinson' which later copies included), but the album's real strength lies in the tracks in-between; the truly fantastic 'Confetti' (written about Evan's parents' divorce), and the eye-wateringly casual acoustic cover of 'Frank Mills' (from the "hippie" musical Hair), a version that seems to resonate with every ounce of pathos and emotion felt for the lost 1960s generation. To hear Evan Dando sing lines like 'I love him/but it embarrasses me/To walk down the street with him/He lives in Brooklyn somewhere/And he wears his white crash helmet' is to truly appreciate how wonderful and tantalising pop music can be. On Hindsight, Nick Zanca's first album as a singer-songwriter, Zanca leads a crack band of musicians from all over New York's musical map. After nearly a decade making electronic music under the name Mister Lies, Zanca began focusing his energies as a producer, working with adventurous up-and-coming artists such as Wendy Eisenberg and Lucy Liyou and sculpting songs of his own. Hindsight moves boldly beyond the synthetic textures of his early career, blending AOR, jazz fusion, electroacoustic improv, and even musical theater into wholly organic music. He examines age-old quandaris from his own unique viewpoint: the dehumanizing effects of industry and capitalism, a childhood developmental diagnosis, a difficult romantic situation. It's unapologetically itself, honest - and relatable. It doesn't equivocate: Zanca's world is ours, too.

Steve Moore returns to the library music fold and it's a total doozy: Cursed Objects is truly sensational prog-synth-wave. Featuring epic electronic explorations with chamber music and symphonic flourishes, it's our favourite thing Steve has ever done. In keeping with the horror heat of the music contained within, this vinyl release is frighteningly limited, with just 500 pressed for the world.

New York-based multi-instrumentalist/producer/film composer Steve Moore is probably best known for his synthesizer and bass guitar work as Zombi, together with Anthony Paterra. But he is also part of Miracle and Titan as well as being a prolific solo artist releasing music as Gianni Rossi, Lovelock and under his own name. Steve’s music has found a home across hallowed labels like Future Times, Mexican Summer, LIES, Static Caravan, Kompakt, Death Waltz, Ghost Box and, of course, Be With Records.

Steve released Cursed Objects for fresh library label Fold. Run by ex-KPM head Paul Sandell, it's a library with values we can all get behind. It's the first production music platform working exclusively with independent labels, publishers and artists to create a truly authentic artist-led sound, at production music rates. Here's what Steve had to say: "I had worked with Paul before, at KPM. After he left, he mentioned that he had started a new library - Fold - and I was very interested in being a part. And I happened to be working on a bunch of music at the time that I thought could fit." So here we are!

The LP opens by letting in "The Uninvited One". Calm and relaxed arpeggiated synths build around sweeping strings and plucked harp to create a mystical and hopeful feel. The title track sees dark synths merge and swell with a piano, string and harp melody that is dark, mysterious and brooding. "Evolutionary Steps" is an electro synthwave track that builds with epic strings and beats, offering an expansive and dreamy approach with a mystical and driving rhythm. Next up, "The Icarus Feather" is daring, pulsing and cinematic synthwave that builds with arpeggiated synths to a hopeful end. "Daily Affirmations" offers calm and meditative ambient synths with plucked harp and strings for a reflective, peaceful, daydreamy feel.

“Mesmer's Bauble” ushers in side two, its dark synth backing builds with plucked harp and strings building with a sense of unknown and dread; it's introspective and heartfelt. "Quiet Springs" is all mystical synths, harps and strings, building to an epic panoramic scope with a hopeful and poignant atmosphere. "Festival Of Samhain" presents a dark and brooding piano melody which builds with synths and strings to create a slow and desolate feel. "The Icarus Feather (Revisited)" is epic building synthwave with arpeggiated synths and strings and a driving rhythm - the beat builds with the strings entering a forceful and marching mood. To close, "Shard Of Medusa" rides a serious and dark piano melody and, in concert with harp and strings, it creates a suspenseful and solemn atmosphere.

Steve recorded Cursed Objects, as always, at his home studio in Albany, NY. For synths, he mostly used his trusty Prophet 6, as well as his Moog Minitaur and lots of Korg Polysix too. But he also utilised a lot of virtual instruments - he doesn't have the budget for a full string section, or a harpist, alas.

The album’s cover was designed by Chris Stevenson. The artwork is a nod to first wave cyberpunk and in particular Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash and the idea of mind viruses and cursed data. Mastering for this vinyl edition was overseen by Be With regular Simon Francis, and it was cut by the esteemed Cicely Balston at AIR Studios to be pressed in the Netherlands by Record Industry. Far from being cursed, this is another future classic library LP.

“Sweet Rain” gilt als eines der besten Alben von Tenorsaxofonist Stan Getz und führt dennoch so etwas wie
ein Schattendasein. Aufgenommen hat er es im Anschluss an seine ungemein populäre Bossa-Nova-Phase
mit einer neuen Band aus Pianist Chick Corea, Bassist Ron Carter und Schlagzeuger Grady Tate, die ihn zu
neuen solistischen Höhenflügen inspirierte und wesentlich freier aufspielen ließ als in den vorausgegangenen
Jahren.

Die aus Hawthorne, Kalifornien, stammenden Thee Heart Tones setzen mit ihrer Musik sowohl eine Tradition fort als auch neue Grenzen. Leadsängerin Jazmine Alvarado ist gerade mal 19 Jahre alt und das älteste Mitglied der Gruppe, Jorge Rodriguez, ist 21, aber wenn man sich ihre Platte anhört, wird deutlich, dass sie weit über ihr Alter hinaus talentiert sind. Thee Heart Tones, das sind Jazmine (Gesang), Ricky Cerezo (Tasten und Orgel), Jorge (Schlagzeug), Jeffrey Romero (Bass), Peter Chagolla (Leadgitarre) und Walter Morales (Rhythmusgitarre). "Eines Tages bekam ich eine Mail von Ricky Cerezo mit der Frage, ob ich einen Song für seine neue (damals noch namenlose) Band schreiben wolle", erzählt Jazmine. "Ich kannte seinen Schlagzeuger und die anderen Jungs aus der Mittelschule, sie waren also bekannte Gesichter. "Magdalena Bay, the Los Angeles-based duo of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, create magical pop music that floats in the ether of our collective social cosmos. Tenenbaum and Lewin met as teenagers in a Miami high school music program. Tenenbaum, who moved from Buenos Aires to Florida at age one, and Lewin, a guitar shredder influenced by his dad’s prog and concept rock records, quickly recognized their kindred spirits. They formed a prog band called Tabula Rasa and began a romance. Both were skilled musicians; Tenenbaum a pianist and singer, and Lewin self-taught in production and music theory. Despite attending different colleges, they maintained their band, traveling hours to rehearse before realizing two things: their relationship was undeniable, and prog rock wasn’t resonating with young audiences.

Shifting their focus to pop, they explored its craft, leading to the creation of Magdalena Bay. They learned the complexities of pop writing and production, striving to create something interesting within the genre. Describing their music broadly as ""pop,"" they released several EPs and singles before debuting their album, ""Mercurial World,"" in 2021. Praised for its melodic hooks and meticulous production, it was often labeled as ""synth-pop.""

Their success is reflected in streaming numbers, social media followers, and festival appearances. Magdalena Bay's stylized online aesthetic complements their music, creating a cohesive artistic vision. Ungod is the debut album by industrial rock band Stabbing Westward, released in 1994. From 2019 to 2023 Lindsay Reamer worked as a field scientist. With a guitar and a bag of books in tow, she would leave her home in Philadelphia for the postcard scenes of the American landscape to gather data on visitation in National Parks. She counted cars and RVs, surveyed visitors, and made a temporary home for a few weeks at a time wherever she landed. All the while, she collected her own observations like specimens and slowly weaved the songs that would form her debut full-length, `Natural Science.' Recorded throughout 2023 by Lucas Knapp, `Natural Science' paints with a full spectrum. Humor rubs elbows with heartbreak. Acoustic guitars brush up against synthesizers, cradling Reamer as she sings about the American Chestnut tree extinction, employee gossip at a Day's Inn, fishing beside a power plant, turf grass farms, and waking up next to day-old take-out. The indifferent beauty of nature is held up next to the everyday as Reamer does her very best to find clues for navigating the latter by musing upon both. Following the release of her self-produced EP `Lucky' (Dear Life Records) in 2021, Reamer assembled a band with musicians from Philadelphia's vibrant music community and began working her once solo-acoustic songs into full band arrangements. After a brief flirtation with dance music which led to 2022's viral single "Touch Tank," Reamer settled into a sound that lies somewhere in the folkrock-pop matrix, explored with the humor and lightness of songwriters like Sheryl Crow or Melanie. Reamer reflects: "When I heard the songs with the band, I knew it was time to make the record. It felt like something I had been working towards my whole life. I grew up around musicians but I never thought I was good enough to be in a band or even to make my own music. My grandmother Joan gave me voice lessons after school, my mom was an opera singer, and my dad a guitar player. But it wasn't until a few years ago that I realized I could do it. It didn't matter if I could shred on the guitar or something. It was like some illusion shattered." Reamer is a sincere storyteller. The self-doubt and heartbreak expressed in songs like "Spring Song," "Sugar," or "Red Flowers" give way to the triumphant moments of self-acceptance and love in "Lucky," "Necessary," and "Figs and Peaches." `Natural Science' chronicles a path to confidence, an honest reflection of someone with the capacity to hold a deep well of emotion who also makes sure to not take it all too seriously. In that same year, Cranes went on a world tour with The Cure, which increased their popularity. Jorge Velez returns to L.I.E.S. with his first effort since 2012's Hassan lp. Through this six track lp we see the ultra versatile Velez weave seamlessly through numerous strains of electronics.
From menacing drones to EBM influenced floor tracks to Sakamoto-esque melodic experiments, he creates an atmosphere equally suitable for home listening or adventurous club play. All of this very much reminding us of the days when Mute, Factory, Cherry Red, or Fetish Records were at their best.

verloren. Von 1988 bis 1994 und noch einmal ab 2015 war Howe der Frontmann einer der meistgeliebten und
geschätzten Metal-Institutionen Amerikas und nahm bahnbrechende und essentielle Werke wie "Blessing in
Disguise" und "The Human Factor" auf.
Mike Howe war ein herausragender Sänger, ein charismatischer Frontmann und für viele die Stimme des
amerikanischen Heavy Metal. Am 26. Juli 2021 starb Howe im Alter von 55 Jahren in seinem Haus in Eureka,
Kalifornien. Die Welt hat an diesem Tag eine einzigartige Stimme und ein einzigartiges Talent verloren. Sein
Vermächtnis wird natürlich weiterleben, in seinen vielen Freunden, Anhängern und Fans, in seinen klassischen
Alben und in den Erinnerungen seiner Bandkollegen. Zum dritten Jahrestag seines tragischen Todes wird
Reaper Entertainment seinen eigenen Beitrag zum Gedenkaltar einer wahren Ikone leisten: ein Live-Album mit
dem Titel "The Final Sermon", aufgenommen bei seinen letzten Auftritten - am 24. und 25. August 2019 im Club
Citta in Kawasaki, Japan. "The Final Sermon" zeigt nicht nur Howe auf seinem stimmlichen Höhepunkt, der
singt, schreit und schmettert, als gäbe es buchstäblich kein Morgen, sondern auch eine Band in bestechender
Form. Thrash-Gitarren-Pionier und -Gründer Kurdt Vanderhoof, Gitarrist Rick Van Zandt, Bassist Steve Unger,
Schlagzeuger Stet Howland und Live-Bassist Bobby Ferkovich waren in diesen zwei langen Nächten in Japan in
Hochform, eine eingespielte Metal-Maschine, die zu allem bereit war. 14 Songs unterstreichen ihren Status als
Quintessenz amerikanischer Metal-Overlords, eine Band, die musikalisch alle Register zieht und gleichzeitig eine
politische, sozial bewusste, philosophische Denkweise verkörpert. Aktuelle Knaller wie das furiose
"Damned if you do", Klassiker wie die bedrohliche Riffwand von "Fake Healer" und frühe Klassiker wie "Beyond
the Black" zeigen eine Band, die sich ihrer Vergangenheit bewusst und stolz darauf ist, sich aber in der

Weniger als ein Jahr nach ihrem Album „Through and Through“ kehrt Baby Rose mit „Slow Burn“ zurück, einer Sammlung von Songs, die ihre Klangpalette von progressivem R&B zu einer raueren, reichhaltigeren und weitläufigeren Linse amerikanischer Musik erweitern. Hier behauptet sich Rose nicht nur als einmalige Sängerin, sondern auch als formidable Songwriterin, die die Punkte verbindet, an denen Muscle Shoals auf Psych trifft, Psych auf Jazz, Jazz auf Americana, und die richtigen Musiker bringen alles zusammen. Produziert von BADBADNOTGOOD, fanden Rose und die Band eine sofortige und scheinbar endlose Quelle der Inspiration; was als Einleitung begann, wurde zu einem Tag, zu einem Song, zu einer Nacht, zu „Slow Burn“. Baby Rose war bereits eine kraftvolle Performerin - sie kann die Bühne mit Robert Glasper teilen, ohne in Schweiß auszubrechen, oder einen epischen Film wie Creed III, für den sie den Abschlusssong sang, mit stählerner Zuversicht beenden. Als Rose sich das erste Mal mit BADBADNOTGOOD traf, war sofort eine Verbindung da, und gemeinsam nahmen sie die Leadsingle "One Last Dance" gleich bei diesem ersten Treffen auf. Es war Roses erster Freestyle-Song, und er brachte entscheidende Teile ihrer Vision auf den Punkt. "Ich wusste schon immer, dass es neue Räume und Sounds gibt, in die ich vordringen kann", erklärt Rose. "Ich war schon immer an verschiedenen Sounds interessiert, die diese raueren Texturen einbringen." Während die Geschwindigkeit ihrer Zusammenarbeit Rose begeisterte und überraschte, waren das Potenzial und die Endergebnisse es nicht. "Wir haben uns schnell bewegt", sagt sie, "und es war wirklich wie ein Wasserhahn. Sobald wir “One Last Dance“ hatten, wurde klar, dass alles fließen würde." Die Songs auf „Slow Burn“ wurden zum Teil von Roses Erfahrungen inspiriert, die sie auf den Fahrten zwischen den Wohnorten ihrer Familie machte: dem Lärm und Chaos von DC und der ruhigen Landschaft von Carolina. Rose drehte die Musik auf und ließ ihre Gedanken schweifen, um Raum für innere Monologe und imaginäre Dialoge zu schaffen, die man sonst vielleicht nicht zu hören wagt. Diese Momente haben etwas Verträumtes, und sie schwelen auf Slow Burn: Erinnerungen verlieren ihre Realität, Gefühle ersetzen Geschehnisse. Der Titeltrack zum Beispiel setzt sanfte, schlendernde Drums gegen Roses lyrische Wiederholungen, während sie diesen Erinnerungen - manche leben, manche fühlen - mit geduldigem, beharrlichem Verlangen nachspürt. Das herausragende "One Last Dance" kommt als Liebeslied getarnt daher, ist aber eigentlich eine Ode an eine verlorene Freundschaft und ein imaginärer Traum von einem weiteren Tag wie in alten Zeiten. Die Realität verschwimmt wieder mit dem Gefühl, der Gesang geht in ein Wiegenlied über, und BADBADNOTGOODs Bassist Chester Hansen bringt diese traumhafte Qualität in einen schleichenden, vorsichtigen, aber liebevollen Unterton. Tatsächlich haben die meisten Songs auf „Slow Burn“ dieses schleichende, schattenhafte Gefühl, als würden sie auf Zehenspitzen daherkommen: intim, aber ein wenig gefährlich, zärtlich, aber ein wenig geheimnisvoll. So vollständig und überzeugend dieses Werk auch ist, Slow Burn weist auf einen größeren, höheren Aufstieg in Baby Roses Zukunft hin.
