A loose ensemble, Liquid Canoe is the brainchild of Wolfgang Matthes, a lost Angelino who’s swapped the rush and push of a mega city for the space of the Pacific Northwest - and listening to this eight track offering, you’ll realise that space is the place. Armed with an array of vintage synths and programmed rhythms, Wolfgang sketched out a slew of inter dimensional transmissions, inspired by the commune electronics and space rock of 70s Germany and inhabited by the spirit of the boogie. Inviting friends to drop by and lend their own instrumental skill, Wolfgang quickly turned Liquid Canoe into a true collaboration. Finalised in a converted stable on Galiano Island, the LP is a perfect marriage of the electronic and organic, shimmering arps and spheric synth bass intertwined with American primitive guitar, nuanced hand percussion and glassy chimes. As this mind expanding collection stretches out towards infinity, you’ll hear Floyd-ian funk, cosmic dub, tangerine daydreams and micro-dosed ambience, all imbued with the memories of New York lofts, Bay Area warehouses, skyscraping pines or the world wide web of fungi. Im heutigen Progressive Rock scheint es, als gäbe es jede Woche eine neue Supergroup. Aber lange bevor das die Norm wurde, und bevor Musiker regelmäßig in mehr als einer Band involviert waren, gab es Liquid Tension Experiment. 1997 vereinten Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Sons of Apollo), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) und Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) ihre Kräfte und erschufen Liquid Tension Experiment. Das Quartett veröffentlichte 1998 ihr legendäres, selbst-betiteltes Debütalbum und 1999 dann direkt das beeindruckende Nachfolgeralbum 'LTE2'. Dabei kreierten sie einen dynamischen, wilden und erfinderischen Sound, der bis heute einmalig ist. Die unglaubliche Kreativität dieses Kollektivs führte dazu, dass Petrucci und Portnoy Rudess einluden, Dream Theater beizutreten, was das Ende dieses Seitenprojekts bedeuten sollte. 22 Jahre lang passierte nichts, obwohl kaum eine Reunion gefragter war als diese. Doch wenn die Welt sich im Lockdown befindet und sich die Kalender dieser vier Ausmahmemusiker unerwarteterweise als leer erwiesen, ist das Undenkbare passiert... LTE3.Die acht Songs auf LTE3 sind ein Mix aus vier vollständig komponierten Tracks, zwei Duetten, einem spontanen Jam und einem akribisch arrangierten Cover. 'Wir haben vier Songs komponiert. Wir realisierten, dass es das Gleiche war wie bei den ersten beiden Alben.', erklärt Portnoy. Jordan Rudess stimmt zu, 'Es fühlt sich wie eine Fortsetzung an. So als hätten wir LTE2 aufgenommen und wären eine Woche später wiedergekommen, um LTE3 zu machen. Ich weiß, es ist unglaublich, aber die Zeit verging wie im Flug und die Chemie ist genau die gleiche. Es war damals großartig und das ist es auch heute.' Petrucci kommentiert: 'Wer hätte gedacht, dass eine Gruppe Typen in unserem Alter so spielen würden? Es ist unerbittlich. Es ist definitiv ein Statement, du weißt, wir sind zurück. Es ist wie immer, wenn du 'play' drückst, walzt es dich nieder.

Three years after Stroom TV released his debut album Modified Perspectives, Kolàr released, Loops & Pieces, a documentation of sounds he has been working on in the period 2017-2020. According to Kolàr, this tape, also his first release for Dauw, was full of vaporous drafts transforming into solid forms with the help of time and distance. Compared to his previous work, the music on Loops & Pieces is much more stripped down and minimal, yet the dreamy character remained.

On Liquid Rhythm, we see Kolàr combining approaches of both albums. Using synths and acoustic instruments, he created 10 songs reflecting his typical playful yet melancholic aesthetics.

Noon Garden is an exotic psych-pop odyssey from one of the founding members of Flamingods. Drawing on worldly sounds from the likes of Francis Bebey and Dur Dur Band to Shintaro Sakamoto, tearing up the sonic rule book and conjuring up a distant land where you find yourself cutting loose to grooves that meander their way through a wide spectrum of African disco, funk, exotica and psychedelia. Noon Garden has received support from the likes of Clash and The Line Of Best Fit and recent single Decca Divine was playlisted on Amazing Radio. The track also picked up love at DSP playlists including Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds: Indie’ and Apple’s ‘New in Alternative’. British born with Nigerian & Jamaican heritage, Prest spent his childhood living in Bahrain surrounded by people, like himself, who were all living on an island away from their homeland. Seeing the world from a young age and the experience of 10 years of globe-trotting touring with Flamingods are imprinted on his new project and have been a huge influence on shaping Noon Garden’s tropical adventurism. As a talented multi-instrumentalist Charles has written, self-produced and played all the parts on the single himself. Noon Garden says of the album: "This debut was an experiment to get to know myself better. Taken from the name of an area not too far from my family home in Norwood south London, the literal words ‘Beulah Spa’ conjured up imagery of being a place to contemplate in warmth and complete tranquility. Writing music is a therapeutic process for me and it’s taken about eight years on and off to finish this album by myself, to try understand what it was exactly that I wanted to say lyrically and explore sonically. The album’s lyrics have shape-shifted so much with time but they take a curious look at the human experience; in my case growing up and soaking up a lot of cultures from an early age in the Middle East, the UK and briefly in Singapore. It’s a reflection on what’s past and what’s yet to come, my connection with others over the years and how that inevitably shapes your outlook on what’s around you. All of this told through the lens of psychedelia which has always given me a sense of possibility. Beulah Spa is the first marker of where I’ve gotten to so far in my life, channeling it all into a musical odyssey that lays the foundation for a lot more to come.”

In Belgium - more specifically in Aalst - four friends of friends decide to make music together. A year or so later, Intergalactic Lovers achieves its first successes and in 2011, with 'Greetings and Salutations', the band records its first album. The press is wildly enthusiastic, the gigs are piling up, the train is rolling...

13 years and two more successful albums ('Little Heavy Burdens' (2014) and 'Exhale' (2017)) later, singer Lara Chedraoui, guitarist Maarten Huygens, bassist Raf De Mey and drummer Brendan Corbey know each other like the back of their hands as they have navigated many waters together, both professionally and privately. The unbreakable foursome is ready to start the next chapter in the career of Intergalactic Lovers. "We kept a low profile the last two years" Brendan admits, "but we always have to disappear for a while after a tour. From the stage and from each other. Otherwise, you couldn't keep doing this for 13 years alongside a job, a family..."

Liquid Drops proudly presents the first vinyl release of AgainstMe called "Inequalities". The A-Side includes original mixes of two melancholic breakbeat tracks and the B side has two amazing DnB Remixes by Syban aka Myselor and label's boss mSdoS. "Inequalities" is a personal and self-discovering trip that came to life during the hard times of the first lockdown in Athens. AgainstMe's vision for these tracks was to release his inner pressure during the quarantine, feel again the vibe of Germany's countryside and dive to the cold sea of Eressos Lesvos Island.

Charlotte de Witte mints her new KNTXT label with a suitably epic collaboration, joining forces with techno royalty Chris Liebing for ‘Liquid Slow’, due for release on 27th September. The CLR boss and German techno pioneer has been a regular at KNTXT parties over the years, not least at the sold-out stadium event at Antwerp's Sportpaleis last year where he will be returning to once again this November, alongside de Witte, just after the release of this new EP.
The influential pair spent time hanging out together at Awakenings Festival last year when they had the idea to collaborate. “I field-recorded the sound of a crane that was already taking stuff down next to us and thought it would be a good starting point“ says Chris. Whilst he admits the sample didn't made it on to this release, he teased a future collaboration saying "who knows, maybe there is more in the pipeline, I still have the recording". Current BBC Radio 1 resident Charlotte de Witte is once again in the midst of a non-stop summer that finds her taking her dark, stripped and powerful sounds to the biggest clubs and festivals in the world. She adds, “we have shared a lot of laughs, a couple of beers and a million different mixdown versions of both tracks. I consider Chris to be my friend and I’m very proud and honoured to have worked with him on this EP". Opener ‘Liquid Slow’ is seven minutes of heavy and hypnotic techno. It is stripped back to an acid bassline and earth rumbling kicks, with a meandering lead synth line and a darkly absorbing spoken word vocal over the top sure to lock in the dance floor for the duration. ‘In Memory’ ups the pressure with rumbling drums and bass sweeping you up as more acid twitches and tough hits nail down the groove. It is another powerful and compelling piece of techno from this vital pair.
This is the latest fascinating development in the story of Charlotte de Witte and her KNTXT brand. Now a label as well as a radio show and event series, KNTXT strives to be a progressive player within the vibrant techno scene.
