Following on from the recent Elegiac release - a meeting of two mavericks Blurt's Ted Milton and Wire's Graham Lewis we have teamed up with Blurt for a double sided 45 featuring two new tracks "Cry" & "I'll Be There Now".
Milton is a poet, with several volumes under his belt, as well as an avant-garde puppeteer. Yet he's probably best known as vocalist/saxophonist with psycho-funk afro punk fake no-wave pogo jazz trio Blurt. Milton's group has produced an impressive string of albums, not to mention his numerous solo recordings. Brimming with the pogo punk energy the band are known for, the lead side "Cry" is a mesh of raw drums and piercing sax slowing down on the flip side to a head nodding pace with Milton's echoing refrains backed by the raw bounce of the band.
Legendary Memphis soul brothers William, Bertram and Randy Brown released an album under the group name TEN-63 entitled FACING THE MUSIC, it was published in 2009, but recorded sometime earlier. YOU AND ME was played out and initially covered up by Mike Ward circa 1989/90 receiving cult status.
YOU AND ME and our pick for the flip SAY WE’LL STAY are beautifully constructed songs with each of the Brown brothers serving up a solo part, it cannot be denied their contrasting vocal styles and harmonies are supreme in the extreme!
The Browns’ contribution to the Memphis music scene is etched in history. William, who sadly passed away in 2015 was a member of The Mad Lads. Randy and Bertram were members of The Newcomers, Bertram went on to be a part of soul funk group Kwick and of course Randy had a glittering solo career with LPs on Parachute, Chocolate City and Stax as well as numerous singles; he is regarded by many as being one of the finest vocalists of his genre.

Funk and soul at its finest. Two Chicago classics from the Gene Chandler vault get an official remastered, reissue exactly as they deserve to be.
On the A side, 'I'll Make The Living If You Make The Loving Worthwhile' combines heavenly orchestral flair with Chandler's sweeter than sweet vocals. That early 80's influence weaves it's way throughout with a healthy dose of slap bass bringing a flavour of funk to the fore.
Take to the B side and Chandler offers up a more disco focused track, complete with a killer boogie tinged bassline, sensuous keys and strings of stratospheric proportions. Those silky-smooth trademark Gene Chandler tones keep the iconic soul running deeply through the veins of this 1980 number.
Any self-respecting music lover deserves this remastered version nestled in their collection.

While living in bucolic seclusion in Belgium with Marie-Claire, Tucker invited visiting musicians (Derroll Adams, Wizz Jones, Maggie Holland, Dave Evans, Ian Anderson) into his home studio to play and live tape whatever songs he had at hand. Maggie Holland and Ian A Anderson feature, while Tucker found a freeing simplicity in just guitar, ’70s organ, bass and piano. We are so grateful to Ian A Anderson, who carefully kept and curated these recordings from 50 years ago. “Every time I would leave, Tucker would hand me another tape full of songs”. The word 'classic' get's bandied around a lot when talking about certain records, artists, labels etc but rarely is it truly justified. In the case of the monumental slab of NYC deepness that is 'I'll Be Your Friend' we feel the tag is genuinely justified. Originally released in 1991 on the RCA label the track has been one of house music's most enduring anthems. Literally one of the deepest tracks out there, it's combination of Owen's vocals paired with the stellar production techniques of Def Mix's David Morales (and THOSE drums) is such a heady combination that the record crossed over so many scenes and to this day remains an evergreen staple in DJ's of all persuasions bags. Featured here we have all the original mixes (with the exception of the shorter radio edit) in their original forms.
