Remixed With Love Volume 3 is the latest edition of what has become the industry-leading disco remix series. No one knows this era of music better than Dave Lee, who under his Joey Negro alias once again turns his impeccable hand to some of the best-loved records ever committed to wax.
“I can clearly remember in the 80s having fantasies about being a remixer and dreaming of tweaking my favourite songs and re-releasing them. I really never thought it would happen. The days when I receive the parts for some of these classic recordings are literally a dream come true.” – Dave Lee
Remixed With Love Volume 3 has been a real labour of love, and a release several years in the making. With original parts for some of these classics hard to find, and with major labels rightly protective of songs created by legendary artists, it is a testament to both the perseverance of Lee and the esteem in which he is held as a remixer that the project was ever completed. Luckily for us though, here we are: Remixed With Love Volume 3 is done, dusted and ready to deliver a healthy dose of joy to us all.
As with previous volumes, Lee has put his own inimitable spin on more than a dozen seminal records, with The Fatback Band, Patti LaBelle, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Odyssey and many more vying for attention across a stunning three part gatefold double vinyl, double CD and digital release.
As you’d expect from an artist of Lee’s calibre, he’s taken the task extremely seriously. “Some songs I’ve wanted to get access to the multi for ages turn out to be far less straight forward than I imagined. You know it’s a great track, but unlocking the key to doing a
worthwhile new version doesn’t always come easy. To make more of a feature of one element sometimes means there has to be less of something else. There are many decisions to be made, lived with, revised, maybe reversed until finally your gut tells you it’s about right.”
There are very few producers with either the confident or ability to take on records of this heritage, but Dave Lee has once again proved that when it comes to sensitive re-workings of disco staples, he’s in a league of his own.
Released back in 2016, Remixed With Love Volume 2 included exclusive reworks of classic soul and disco records all from the original master tapes, with the collection going on to be Traxsource’s best-selling of 2016, reaching top 30 on iTunes album chart, and also being named DJ Mag’s compilation of the year.
All the remixes here are 100% new and exclusive to the compilation, making Remixed With Love Volume 3 an essential purchase for any serious disco devotee.
“Judging from comments and suggestions I get from people online thankfully there is still a large appetite for re-workings of 70/80s material, something you can’t bank on when you embark on the project. I hope you enjoy the music.

The Emotional Rescue reissue series of Noel Williams aka King Sporty working with other artists and singers on the Konduko label's roster comes to completion with the deep funk disco of The Prolifics' Boy Child.
Formed in 1970 as part of "Senator" Nolan Jones' New Orleans soul and funk label Hep' Me Records, the bands early deep southern soul saw them release a series of 7"s for Hep' Me and Avco, plus an Xmas single for EMI and the minor hit A Place Called Home, recorded at the infamous Musle Shoals studios, backed by the Rhythm Section band who, from the early 60s, turned out hit after hit, from When A Man Loves A Women to Brown Sugar.
Landing on the newly inked Drive label, set up in '72 by Henry Stone as a sub label of his burgeoning T.K Records empire, their developing move in to funk saw them featured alongside Funky Nassau, Jimmy Castor and Peter Brown. It is here the connection with Noel Williams was formed. While putting together the "Konduko Six Pack" showcase album, the band were invited to the Miami Sound Studios for sessions that brought us both title cut Boy Child and the accompanying You Got Me.
All brass and claps, Boy Child is as funky as Williams got, backing the groups soul vocals, a story of first born's energetic path in life and a mothers love. The backing from Deep Rockers band bring the swing, the trippy keys and wide bottom end has made this a secret drop for many. You Got Me on the other hand is true King Sporty, a driving 9-minute disco boogie cut, where the warm harmonies lay down this uplifting, killer dance floor stop.
To close, the flip is again given over for reinterpretation, welcoming back Felix Dickinson to expertly cut, loop and dub. A special personal song for Dickinson, his subtle extension teases the intro for DJ play, before letting things fly - "the little show-off" as the song notes. With a near 30-year DJ and production career in place, his Discomix is a fitting way to complete this cycle of reissues of this benchmark label, for now.

Take It Easy is back with the first solo appearance by Bugsy, party co-owner and DJ. "Love For You" open the EP with some acid vocals vibes. Chicago's master Jamie 3:26 gives his groovy and disco-sample reinterpretation to the track on a2. "Sick "And Tired" on b side gives some dreamy, filter-sweeping reverie to the EP. Dirty Channels are back on the label too with their groovy and powerful house remix of "Sick and Tired"

Making his return to the label after last year's springtime favorite, Everlast, is Dorsi Plantar. Better Listen's twelfth entry in the main run marks their first repeat of an artist, and the Copenhagen man does not disappoint.
Tack Farsan is a balanced sample-driven EP intended to milk the last of summer's flavors for the dancefloors enjoyment.
The top side hosts sunny disco affairs in the release's title track, and a polished collab with label mate Sune. The logo side, on the other hand, explodes into deep latin affairs.

Here we are at the dawn of a new compilation series and we’re kicking things off with an absolute gem that features a selection of hard-to-find records (some impossible to find) and some that have been hiding in plain sight all along. They all share common qualities, being that they are beautiful, soul quenched songs that sing of love, peace and unity.
‘With Love: Volume 1’ has been compiled by Miche and presents a curated selection of rare Brazilian, gospel, modern soul and jazz-fusion fire. We have Brazilian rarities by Alcione and Quientaessencia, UFO gospel by Keith Chism & Light, the jazz-funk/AOR sounds of City Lites taken from a Radio Station album, and the anthemic feel-good emotional soul of Belita Woods to name but a few.
Tracking down artists and musicians from the past is an art form. Like a seagull swooping for treats, sometimes the prizes are easily found, and at other times, it’s the result of very late nights trolling through Facebook profiles, message boards, hitting dead ends and following red herrings, and yet still the search goes on. This compilation is a true labour of love with all the artists tracked down and licensed by Miche. It has long been an ambition of the London based musical connoisseur to compile an album, and like anything that requires craft, care, and knowledge - it takes time. There are many twists and turns in the hunt for those records that make your jaw drop.
In 2018, when just 24, Miche became a music programmer for London’s illustrious Spiritland group of venues. From this musical sanctuary, he was able to listen, learn and meet some of the best selectors from around the world. It was a musical education, and he was particularly drawn to the deep sessions by DJs such as Mark Taylor, George Arthur, Kev Beadle, Patrick Forge, Dr. Bob Jones, and Colin Curtis to name a few. He also used this time to begin running his re-issue label Discs of Fun and Love with co-owner and friend Frederika.
Sometimes the cynical knock compilations, there is certain snobbery amongst some about the original pressing, but music shouldn't just be about lucky collectors giving over large sums of money to record dealers. It's also about a bridge to the past, a celebration of the legacy of somebody’s art, and a second chance for initially overlooked work to shine. As with all the best compilations, it has been compiled with love…

Hailing out of the Rhythm Plate universe, Yse Saint Laur'ant is back with more of that fanciful house music he does so well. This latest drop on Vinyl Only leads in with 'Rivers', a beautiful warm-up track led by a powerful spoken word performance from an unknown source. 'Finality' is a smouldering, slow-build epic which finally releases in a burst of brass to get a big mass of bodies moving as the sunnier days hit and we head outdoors to dance. 'Your Man' is a dustier affair for the heads down crowd, 'Paradiso' slows things to a gentle murmur and 'Entrance To The Future' takes a sharp left turn into synthwave territory. If you like bags of personality in your house music, look no further.

A top value for money opportunity here, as Moiss Music deliver the latest in their sweet and sticky Jam series of various artist 12" line ups, bringing you no less than six bubbling, vivacious disco triumphs from six artists. Khemir's 'Disco Bandit' kicks off proceedings, a production that sounds like it was made by a band of around 45 musicians, a proper cavalcade of strings, brass, brazen disco thump and beautifully bold vocals. Wurzelholz's 'Prince' goes for a bit more economy but with a slinky funk bassline like that - not to mention the occasional exclamation from the purple overlord himself - it's equally devastating in dancefloor terms. Among the other highlights, 'Golden' by I Gemin has the feel of a lost Daft Punk flip tune and Cosmocomics' 'Glamorous Garcon', boasting 70s-style synth bubbles that are as cute as they are retro. Tasty as ever.

Freerange Records are thrilled to announce the arrival of Crackazat's latest long-player, the scintillatingly soulful and jazz-enriched masterpiece, 'Evergreen'.
There can be few artists to have emerged in the last decade or so who've made a more indelible mark on the deep house universe than producer, Ben Jacobs, better known as Crackazat. The accomplished musician's effervescent productions routinely hit the sweet spot between elemental dancefloor fire and cerebral musicality – thanks to a propulsive sound combining influences of jazz, house, garage, funk, hip hop, Latin, neo-soul (and far beyond). While he's already forged an instantly recognisable sonic palette all of his own, new album 'Evergreen' represents his most accomplished work to date. Making his full vocal debut while introducing a new level of songwriting prowess to his long-established dancefloor credentials, this is the complete Crackazat.
Composed during – and undoubtedly informed by – these trying times, 'Evergreen' explores themes of adversity and gratitude, arriving as both a masterclass in contemplative songwriting and a celebration of musical influences. Elegantly bridging the gap between the soulful house underground and jazz-flecked crossover realms – inhabited by the likes of Jacob Collier, Thundercat, Tom Misch, and Jordan Rakei – the album echoes of a time where jazz-funk sensibilities and popular appeal were not mutually exclusive. Few artists boast the musical aptitude or creative vision to attempt such a bold fusion of styles, and thanks to its exceptional execution and irresistible appeal, 'Evergreen' is primed to introduce Crackazat's sound to an entirely new audience.
'Evergreen' is endowed with a distinctly live feel throughout, with virtuoso musicianship combined with carefully assembled song structures – elements so often missing in the dance canon. “It's the album I’ve always wanted to make” says Crackazat. Soul-heavy vocals – performed by Jacobs himself – are a cornerstone of the collection, with the power and soul of his delivery proving something of a revelation. “By far the hardest part was getting my vocals to a standard I was happy with,” he says. “So I was over the moon when Freerange responded to the first draft with two thumbs up and a big grin.” The album's arrival on benchmark UK deep house label Freerange feels like a particularly natural fit. When, in 2020, Crackazat started posting clips of himself singing alongside live bass and Rhodes, it quickly piqued the interest of the label's ever alert A&R team. “Crackazat really nails the sonic realm where crunchy house beats inspired by the likes of Masters At Work and Mood II Swing meet contemporary neo-soul and jazz-influenced rhythms,” says the imprint's co-founder, Jimpster. “There’s not many that can fuse the two so well and I get a sense that big things lie ahead for Ben. We're very proud to be able to release this brilliant LP on Freerange!”
Blending the purest forms of deep house with authentic jazz sensibilities, opening track 'Beacon Of Light' lays down a tantalising statement of intent – with its combination of live instrumentation, heartfelt vocal, club-ready beats and compelling arrangement offering a vivid introduction of what's to follow. Illustrating the pop-centric focus of the album, 'Everybody Talks About It' explodes with emotion – its searing vocal rising over shimmering pads and bass before building to a horn-filled crescendo, showcases Crackazat at his song-writing zenith.
The deep disco of 'I'm Easy' sees blissful chords glide over weighted bass as the vocal powers across the panorama, bursting with Quincy Jones-inspired horns above delicately woven keys and raw house drums. Nowhere are the album's meditations on hardship more vivid than on the modern jazz ballad 'Simple Things’, This compelling composition blends shades of Robert Glasper with futurist deep house to dramatic effect.
Fusing modal jazz with UK garage, we segue directly into the warm throes of an enraptured dancefloor via the irresistible bump of 'It's All Different', its soulful vocal embellishing a heavy club rhythm as the trumpet solo and Rhodes chords cascade across the horizon. Title-track 'Evergreen' opens with a sprightly jazz swing before dusty drums add body to the sophisticated instrumentation, presenting jazz and house as a single entity as the well-orchestrated wind instruments, keys and mallets dance over an improvised walking bass line. The distant vocal elevates the track into the stratosphere before the arrangement resolves, neatly leading us into the Collier-esque accapella and vintage jazz aesthetics of 'Cedencia', where signature vocal cadences ascend to celestial heights for an interlude that ushers in a departure from the futurist first-half of the album.
Arriving in the funk-infused second act, the salsa rhythms of 'True Power' intoxicate as they propel the Peven Everett-inspired vocal, with driving percussion skipping over live bass and keys before horns add tension to the groove, dissipating for a dub-heavy outro. The scattered, broken jazz of 'Save Something' finds Crackazat and his live band in full effect. Fiercely dynamic while intellectually riveting, the track incorporates Latin energy with understated cool to devastating effect.
Once again illustrating an unparalleled songwriting prowess, the Hancock-esque e-piano solos, slap bass and enthralling lead vocal of 'Nominee For Love' prove spellbinding as they combine, the sing-along chorus interplaying with buoyant horns for an unfettered celebration of life. Maintaining the celebratory sentiment, boogie-themed 'Thank You' arrives as an exuberant outpouring of gratitude, once again marked by breathtaking orchestration and a proudly positive aesthetic as loose-limbed piano solos and boogie bass cement the track's authentic Stevie meets MAW feel. Finally, the immaculate collection comes to a close with the self-nurturing intention of 'Good Enough', where sparkling chords, emotive synth solos and impassioned vocal merge for an emotional modern soul ballad.
'Evergreen' is nothing short of a triumph, exhibiting all the hallmarks of a future classic while propelling Crackazat into stratospheric artistic dimensions. Expertly fusing primal dance magnetism and jazz dexterity with a flawless production sheen, this remarkable album is destined to find its way into the playlists of a multitude of admirers while enhancing this exceptional artist's already glittering reputation.

In LNTG own words of how their "No More War Rework" came around :
About 6 months ago, just before I set off on my 5 month tour of Europe I got a message from a good friend of mine asking me if I would edit a track that he loves.
I said of course, and asked him what track.
Turns out its a big favourite of mine also.
'Why Can't We Live Together' by Timmy Thomas is an amazing song with a strong message that is even more relevant today than it was back in 1972.
The message is clear, it's simple, it's beautiful.
I'm saddened by recent events around the world and I've always tried to spread love through music, because for me, music is love.
I hope you share the message and enjoy.

YUNG DUMB is pleased to welcome the return of Westcoast Goddess for the label's first release of 2022. 'Elfin Glamour' is a delicate balance of feel-good melancholia, as the Berlin-based synth wiz comes forward with innovative sample flips over intricate melodies. The EP includes 'Deep Trance City' and 'Girl Who Dreamed Tomorrow', two unearthed DAT recordings from 2002, bringing new life to 20 year old songs.
Once in a blue moon a singer comes along that stops you in your tracks, Lady Blackbird is one such talent. Dubbed by Gilles Peterson “the Grace Jones of jazz”, her album Black Acid Soul dropped in September 2021 to glowing reviews across the board from the likes of The Guardian and New York Times.
One of the standout tracks ‘Lost and Looking’ - a cover of Sam Cooke’s sparsely arranged original, where Lady Blackbird builds the track with her haunting vocal and sparkling piano notes performed by Deron Johnson, gets the rework treatment from none other than Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy.
Released via Ross Allen, and long-time collaborator Andy Thompson’s Foundation Music, the Classic Album Sunday’s originator, co-founder of the Lucky Cloud System parties and David Mancuso protégé, turns in her ‘Cosmodelica Remix’ muscling up the track for the dancefloor, with a demon bassline, funk fuelled bass guitar, and cosmic acid lines. There’s also a dub for those who prefer a more stripped down but equally pumping affair.

Unidisc continue to bring us anthems, classics and groundbreaking hits from their vaults, reimagined, reworked and re-presented in celebration of 4 decades in the game!
None come much bigger than the pairing of legendary synth alchemist Patrick Cowley and the incredible gay icon Sylvester. 'Menergy' is such a classic record, a slamming piece of HI-NRG funk that will have everybody within the nearest vicinity on the dance-floor in a heartbeat, the sound of early 80's gay San Francisco, unashamed, proud and ridiculously ahead of it's time. Pair this music with the skills of cult producer and editor extraordinaire Purple Disco Machine and you have a potential new classic on your hands! This PDM extended mix is backed with the killer original mix and is undoubtedly an unmissable reissue package beautifully presented by your friends over at Unidisc.

Massive reissue of these signature and much loved weirdo, disco-not-disco (but disco) cut-up cuts from the Bastedos camp. The likes of Young Marco, Horse Meat Disco, Soul Clap and Wax'o Paradiso have all been rinsing this EP, sky rocketing Discogs prices well up to £75 a piece.
The painstaking editing for these bombs comes from Bastedos themselves, A.M. and Last Waltz. Side A brings us 'Sit On This', a rolling, chugging, clapping, marimba-ing (!) disco workout in the vein of Material, edited by Bastedos. It pulls you along through a peaky peak time vocal, a sexed up guitar break, and some chopped-up chanting, all the way to its inevitable hands in the air Piano finale.
Side B first provides us with AM's edit, 'No Smoking On The Moon' and it's celestial choral stylings. Soft synths and tough bass play with each other beneath B-Movie FX and ecclesiastic organs. The sound of a space age disco cult... from the past.
Finishing off the record is Last Waltz's 'Magicke', the extended soundtrack to the opening of the gates of hell. Shuffling go-go perc, syncopated drums and fuzzed out chords play out under Satan's saxophone, before giving way to a damned (damned fuzzy that is) guitar, sounding out the call of Cthulu.

Local Sugar Diggers features re-edits & reworks of old and rare records from Scru's friends collections.
The series starts with two perfect tunes "Mostly Sunny" a mash-up of some German & Japanese 80's funk, and "Opyat' 25" an obscure Japanese jam spiced with some classic Roland 303 acid sounds.

In 2002, New York producer Ursula 1000 released his groundbreaking, genre-busting album Kinda' Kinky, meshing groovy retro sampladelic licks with modern breaks and beats. For its 20th anniversary this year, Ursula revisits the 60's swinging London mod shaking title track with his own 2022 redux. UK breakbeat master A.Skillz remixes the flipside into a relentless, giggling funky disco monster! The cover design is by world renowned space-age bachelor pad artist Shag.
German DJ and producer Delfonic has been putting out great edits and reworks for some time on labels like Razor-N-Tape, Too Slow To Disco, or Nomada, but he has gained great recognition thanks especially to the Illegal Jazz series with his friend Kapote from Toy Tonics. Now comes his debut for Night Shift Records with an EP of four edits entitled 'The Journey Reworked' that reveals all his good work when it comes to giving new life to classic tracks and making them perfect for today's dancefloors. Side A opens with 'Boogie On', a classic that never fails with its funky guitar and signature piano, followed by 'It's Dancing Time', a dark dance track full of tropical disco vibes. On the B-side we find 'Bring On The Music', a perfect example of a funky disco rework with great voices and melodies, and to close 'The Mass Fire', an authentic hurricane of funky rhodes, boogie horns and crazy rhythms that will make you dance until dawn.

Whether or not they are actual twins, Shiho and Yuhiro do create magic on their Basic Fingers debut.
Both of them have made edits and reworks for quite some time and the idea of combining their crate digging skills with their love for edits is nothing short of brilliance.
On the A side, the Twins goes all in with 'Magic Theme', a driving percussive, exploding latin groove that's relentless in its dance floor and chin stroking pleasures.
It's heavy on rhodes and jazz funk solos, a jazz dance bomb for the peaktime hours, what's not to like?
They also bring us 'It's Bright', a joyously celebratory piano jam, the perfect fit for your sunshine filled dancefloor.
Enjoy !

ATA proudly presents it's first foray into the world of disco with "United Disco Organisation's"Send The Rain/Funky Thing
Conceived by producer/bassist Neil Innes and guitarist/singer Chris Dawkins, United Disco Organisation present two sprawling dancefloor fillers reminiscent of the early underground disco explorations of philly soul and Joe Bataans Salsoul label.
A-side "Send The Rain" features the sinuous flute of label-mate Tony Burkill before Chris Dawkins vocals takes centre stage, while the instrumental features an extended flute solo from Tony.
Dawkin's guitar drives B-Side "Funky Thing" with Vibraphone bringing to mind Roy Ayers ubiquity's mid to late 70s disco tracks on the instrumental.
Scheduled to be played on 27th November by Craig Charles on his flagship BBC6 Music show, these 2 tracks have already garnered a great deal of interest including from DJ/Producer Smoove of Smoove & Turrell.

Örtmek comes back round, presenting another vinyl only pressing of three invaluable edits of vintage Turkish funk, rock and disco delicacies. Following the raw, percussive experiments of the first release. Opening track 'Özil Dans' rains down crashing cymbals and freak-out-worthy wah guitars, maintaining an irresistible and authentic groove that doesn't falter for five minutes of Eurasian hypnosis. 'Dokuz Sekiz' weaves traditional string elements alongside bursts of wild chanting. Finally, 'Mozart'in Davul' stitches a frantic, dense rhythm from the fuzz and feedback of an unknown slab of Turkish psychedelia.
The Konduko series features Noel Williams (King Sporty) working with other artists and singers on the label's roster, and continues with the killer boogie 'You're In My Pocket' by Reanna Coleman.
While little is known about Ms Coleman - beyond the fact that she was an R&B singer who was part of Betty Wright's 'Miami Sound' backing troupe - here she is stepping up in front of the mic for a one off release - backed by an esteemed team of writers and producers including the legendary Tommy Stewart.
Stewart's standing in disco history is guaranteed by his classic eponymous solo album, and the boogie classic 'Bump And Hustle Music'. He has also written for the likes of Loleatta Holloway, Tamiko Jones, Mad Dog Department. Fellow writer Julian Chatman was an established composer in his own right, for Salsoul, T.K Disco and AVI Records.
All based in Florida, teaming up with Noel Williams was a logical step. Working with members of Stewart's own band, the marriage can be heard from the first bars. Williams' funk and JA influenced bass is pulled back and a laidback, horn-intersected boogie groove underpins Coleman's warm, gliding lyrics. Now a mega rarity, here it comes in vocal and instrumental, it is backed with the latest Discomix for the label, welcoming back digger, dealer and DJ, Nick The Record to create his own version. Gently cutting between versions, with deft dub touches to bring this latest Konduko delight up to date.

Aldorande is back! The French Jazz-Funk quartet returns with a strong new EP “Summer Body / Breakfast in Space” widening its musical universe to join the Favorite Recordings’ 2020 Disco Jazz-Funk series.
After their first eponymous LP released in June 2019, our explorers strike again with two club-friendly compositions joining the dots between Jazz-Funk and Disco/Boogie. Recorded with great care, reflecting Favorite Recordings’ journey towards the authentic analogue sound, both tracks coming with a Charles Maurice dub versions. With this new musical space trip, Aldorande confirmed – if needed – their solid position at the heart of the French jazz scene: a great appetizer before their upcoming 2nd album to be released later this year.
A-side opens with “Summer Body”, a boogie banger driven by a magnetic bassline, surrounded by lush synthesizers and catchy backing vocals arranged in the tradition of the best Brazilian songs. On the B-side comes “Breakfast in Space”, a sort of cosmic opera. The slap bass and drums set up a P-Funk foundation. On the top, Aldorande put psychedelic vocal lines making the whole journey a definitive trip into funkiness.
Behind Aldorande, you will find a team of great musicians including bandleader and founder Virgile Raffaëlli on bass (Setenta, Camarão Orkestra), Florian Pellissier on keys (Iggy Pop, Guts, Setenta, Cotonete,…), Mathieu Edward on drums (Chassol, De La Soul) and Erwan Loeffel on percussion (10LEC6, Camarão Orkestra). For this new EP, always looking for more funk into their groove, they’ve been joined by French guitarist Farid Baha (Cotonete, Camarão Orkestra).

Paint A Picture are incredibly pleased to announce news of their first release: a fully
remastered, licensed reissue of rediscovered British 7” Funny Situation recorded by Reflex - a
band put together by drummer David Humphrey (Public Image Ltd., Sparks, Mike Oldfield) and
privately released on his Star Records back in 1981. With the original record now changing hands
for in excess of £200 and just in time for a 40th anniversary release the reissue - remastered and
cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery - will include updated original artwork whilst also containing an
insert providing further details and context on the release.
Recorded a few months after seminal Britfunk tune "Southern Freeez" at the very same Vine
Yard Studios and with the same engineer Simon Sullivan - the release unfortunately suffered from
a lack of marketing and proper distribution but almost forty years later the record is now receiving
the attention it deserves and with a price tag to match.
The A side presents a beautiful mesh of funk and soul styles with influence from other Britfunk
bands of the time but with a more overt jazz and rock feel fusing a tight rhythm section with smooth
vocals and climaxing in a guitar and saxophone duel.
The instrumental Version Two provides a fresh approach with the addition of dub FX and
Indian percussion with the use of a tabla added to the mix.
Voilaaa is one of the many projects led and produced by Bruno “Patchworks Hovart, who’s proven over the past 15 years, his place amongst the finest producers of groove music in all genres. This time exploring the wide spectrum of the African and Tropical Disco scene, he received a massive international support for Voilaaa’s two first album, On te l’avait dit, and Des Promesses. Following to that success and pursuing the same direction combining of the festive, yet sometime futile nature of Disco, and the instinctive, deep, sometimes rough nature of African music, Voilaaa’s now presenting a new 4 tracks EP, which will be followed later this year by a new LP.
Another killer package where Patchworks teams up again with longtime partner Pat Kalla, but also with newcomers to the project, like here Ramatou Traore and Ayuune Sule, both bringing great African languages vocals to “Tu mens devant moi” and “Woman Can Do”.

Cover[15,08 €]
Tobias Bernstrup is a contemporary musician and video artist born 1970 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He received an MFA from Royal College University of Fine Arts Stockholm in 1998. Using the visual language of pop culture, video games, sci-fi, classicism and gothic noir, he has created a stage persona with notorious live performances. Dressed in elaborate costumes of skin-tight rubber suits and fetish gear, Tobias' external appearance is androgynous. He raises questions about representation of identity, the body and physical space in both virtual and non-virtual realities. Between 1997 and 1998 he self-released two limited CD-R EPs. In 2002 his debut album 'Re-Animate Me' was released by Tonight Records followed by two limited 12' singles for the song 27' and the Italian version Ventisette'.
.
27' is a 5-song EP collecting 4 different mixes of the title track plus one unreleased song from the 'Re-Animate Me' recording sessions. The material on this EP is closely connected with the world of computer games which Bernstrup also inhabits. Bernstrup's music is influenced by 1980s Italo disco and synth pop, reminiscent of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Ken Lazlo. On the A-side is the original mix at 115 bpm followed by the Lazer Mix set to an faster beat and additional arpeggiations and heavier bass drum beats. Lyrically the song tells the story of a good looking 27-year old boy from a small town searching for love with any man who can spoil him. On the B-side are both the vocal and instrumental of Ventisette', the Italian translation of the song 27.' Both versions of Ventisette' are stripped back compared to the A-side but keep the melodies in tact. Also released for the first time ever is the demo Dirty Money' a Pet Shop Boys influenced song about male prostitutes ready for a night out working the streets.
All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. For the jacket Eloise Leigh transformed the original portrait of Tobias into a Warhol-like painted polaroid with a striking likeness to Liza Minelli with blue eye shadow and red lipstick. Each copy includes a photo postcard with lyrics and notes. I would rather create alternative routes to experiencing and understanding the world, understanding what it means to be human today,' says Bernstrup. We are more artificial than we want to admit.'

Back in 1979, a new kind of superhero entered the Chicago music scene, "...Daryl Cameron somehow entered the phonebooth of his mind and emerged as Captain Sky." His first album for LA based AVI record “The Adventures of Captain Sky” was a smash hit and established Captain Sky as a serious Afro Funk artist right next to Detroit’s George Clinton and Bootsy Collins.
The first song on the album, Moonchild was released as a very limited promo 12” and remixed by Chicago radio DJ Peter Lewicki. The result is a timeless cosmic disco tune that may be one of the best disco song ever made.
Jerome Derradji and Past Due Records are proud to officially reissue this most wanted Captain Sky 12” for the first time. Later this year, Past Due Records will reissue all of the Captain’s full length and some more surprises along the way… Enjoy!

Emotional Rescue completes another set of Discomix collaborations, this time with the Idjut Boys' Dan Tyler, with the dub-disco-reggae of JA meets Brixton's Floyd Lloyd Seivright.
Born in Brown Town, 1948, his music life was formed while attending the cradle of Jamaica music, the legendary Alpha Boys School that spawned the likes of Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Johnny Osbourne, Cedric Brooks and Rico Rodriguez. Leaving for London in 1969 to pursue music he soon established himself, recording with Vista Sounds and Trojan, where he also worked on A&R, before setting up his Tropic label, as well as signing to KPM Music that has seen his compositions appear in film / TV from Eastenders to Friends and recently, Stranger Things.
By the 80s he was working with Red Cloud (ERC102/123), mixing a fusion with soul and disco. Check Out Your Mind comes from these sessions, appearing on his sophomore album. Jazz keys and horns, funk bass and infectious guitar back Seivright's call to awaken, a rising consciousness of the times.
The righteous groove is exemplified on the super rare instrumental. Appearing on the Sexy Lady 12, it now commands serious attention. Featured together for the first time, the interplay shinning a light on Rudy Steel's guitar, before the B side is commanded again by Dan Tyler. His longform utilises the best of both versions, cutting and dubbing to abandon while maintaining total control of desk for a fitting finale.

Javi Frias has earned a solid reputation as a producer on the international disco scene since he began releasing his edits and reworks back in 2015. However, this year, during confinement, he decided to put editing aside to unleash his creativity and start recording his own productions, playing with synthesizers, electric pianos, syncopated basses and tribal percussion, and the result is this 'Sunset Disco EP'. A collection of songs that take us to a summer sunset on a beach in paradise that represent a huge leap in the career of this artist. The A side begins with 'Give Love', a hedonistic and melancholic disco song, followed by 'Noche Tropical', with Balearic overtones and reminiscences of a Caribbean party. Side B opens with 'Are You Really Fellas?', a funky little number featuring jazzy guitars and smashing bass. 'Dance With Me' brings us back to the field of the emotional and evocative disco. And finally 'Musical Connection', with touches of reggae downtempo perfect to say goodbye to this eternal and warm sunset.
Telephone Man bring the joy of the Paradise Garage to Mafalda’s Tropic of Love with expansive 17-piece live disco EP, Angel.
A coming together of close friends Nostalgia 77 aka Benedic Lamdin and DrumTalk aka Nathaniel Pearn, Telephone Man fuse the stirring arrangements and technical prowess of library music with a dance floor sensibility drawn straight from the heart of Larry Levan’s NYC.
Imbued with the DNA of iconic library label KPM, the project began as an exercise in disco, written to the KPM brief, complete with the stuttering drum loops, funk guitar licks and euphoric piano breakdowns of classic Sleeping Bag and Dinosaur L recordings.
Angel was then recorded live by a core group of musicians featuring Tom Herbert (bass), Jose Joyette (drums), Kishon Khan (piano), Ross Stanley (Rhodes), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Rob Updergraff (guitar) and Nathaniel Pearn (synths).
They were joined at Fish Factory studio in London by vocalists Jaelee Small and Chantal Lewis Brown and an 8-piece string section arranged and conducted by Giles Thornton, in a scene that recalls the golden era of live disco, when large ensembles of the world’s best musicians would cut live arrangements for the likes of P&P Records, Prelude and Salsoul.
Described by Nathaniel as “warm, deep, colourful music, that wears its influences on its sleeve with pride,” these live recordings were then taken back into the studio, where Benedic and Nathaniel cut them with tape echo, layered additional synths and crafted each track with the extended topography of a Walter Gibbons disco mix.
Presented as a four-track EP, Angel opens with the rolling percussion and heavy piano stabs of the title track, before the lush and opulent strings set the tone for what is an ambitious and astutely executed piece of club-ready disco.
A motorik beat and sparse guitar work line the edges of second track ‘Burning’, where the bass and synths simmer on a groove without letting the intensity drop. The third track ‘Stand Up’ is pure Class Action - all wriggling baselines, wonky cowbells and rising chords - dubbed out for another 6-minute odyssey on the EP’s final track.
The EP was mixed to tape through the MCI console at Fish Factory, and mastered and cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery in London. That it has landed on Mafalda’s label chimes with the vibrant, sunshine music of her own much-loved DJ sets.
Angel is disco as it should be done, touching the soul and lifting the spirit in the process.

On Animals Dancing's eighth disc, Dazion aka Cris Kuhlen lets rip with three psychoactive, percussion-laden mind benders for all good dance floors.
A tweaked vocoder mantra speaks in tongues across interlaced layers of live percussion on 'Yu Go Bah' before sirens ring in the distant chants.
Blood Moon takes the marching band down to the basement, fusing more twisted percussion with electro squelch to soundtrack the sweat rain down from the heavens.
'The Chant Of Celebrational Beings' beckons in a sunrise as the last inklings of serotonin jerk a tear to your eye.
Faze Action return with a classic original house track "Paradise" managing to seamlessly fuse Italo house with the New York sound of the late 80's early 90's. Finely mixing a cocktail of heavenly piano house riffs with dreamy vocals and dubby bass lines, topped off with some classic breakdown moments to tease the most discerning dancefloors into hysteria.
We have also included two tracks for the first time on vinyl, the classic Rudy's Midnight Machine - "Open to Your Love" and Faze Action's - "I Wanna Dancer" (Old School House Mix) plus we have the floor filling ST House Mix of "Freak for Your Love".

Hifi Sean gets his hands on a dusty old tape that had the golden vocal of the ultimate soul diva Loleatta Holloway singing the Style Council classic 'Shout to the Top' which was recorded and released by Fire Island in 1998. There was no musical parts on this tape only the vocal so Sean went about rewriting the arrangement and brings this beauty into the present with these 3 versions including a soulful string laden soul groover , a real late night pumping gospel house jam and a swooning orchestral reprise closing the E.P which includes the last repeated line we all want to hear and we all want to believe right now . "It's going to be alright"

Legito follow up their first single ("Be Happy" which was played by various DJs inc. Giles Peterson, Francois K, Artwork, DJ Harvey and Folamour), with a nod to both Philadelphia soul and Chicago house, in the form of new release "The Old Routine". Describing the frustration of wanting to change in a stressful world over a smooth, head nodding backing track with shuffling house drums for the dancers and gorgeous orchestral strings for the dreamers. The B-side has a deeper house vibe with a conga groove over a nagging guitar line that leads into a synthetic string, drone like breakdown with inspirational spoken word over the top, before bursting back in to the dancefloor groove with driving bass and shuffling hats. Limited repress of 200 copies after intial 100 sold out quickly in 2021.

Craft Music's taste in sizzling hot party music is absolutely confirmed as razor sharp with this third instalment of edits and re-rubs with a twist. Far from vanilla re-arrangements, these re-versions get fruity with the source material and on Good For Dance there's a particular emphasis on acid. First up Scruscru & Aman Po-Kaifu get right down and dirty with Nigerian classic 'Salem' by The Funkees, whipping up a veritable storm with 'Acid Salam'. Next up Skitcut gets into a serious stomp laden with wriggling 303 action on 'Zaletaet Na Acid', and Funkyjaws has some fun weaving slamming claps and nimble bleeps into the brassy source material for 'Acid Circus'. Eddie C rounds things off with a proper rubbery acid tweaker which slips in smooth on 'Dysk Dzokej On Acid'. Classy stuff, and whole heaps of fun for those who love acid, those who love disco, and those who love both.

The cosmic funk sounds of Crazy P are sure to endure through the ages but it's always good to hear classic tackle through a fresh lens. And so it is that Walk Don't Walk asks four crucial artists to add their own spin to some fine originals. DJ Nature brings his textbook rawness and heaviness to 'SOS' while Ilija Rudman's take on 'Night Rain' is lovely downtempo boogie funk. Running Back label head Gerd Janson is in dazzling disco mode on his take on 'We Will F**k You Up' and last of all is a super vibe and atmospheric house joint from Ron Basejam.
Four highly soughta after cutz from label boss, DJ Mes have been put together on one 12"! Fans have been requesting these tracks on vinyl for ages, so we decided to put them all together on one EP to satisfy the demand. This EP is stacked with chucky, funky, deep, dirty, jackin house tracks aimed directly at the dancefloor.

Makèz have come a long way since they first sneaked into Amsterdam’s studio 80 at the age of 17 to hand over their demos to Dam Swindle. Those demos led to their debut EP ‘Different planets’ on Heist in 2019 which gained major support from artists like Seth Troxler and Chez Damier. Quickly after, they signed two records on New York based label Let’s Play House. Fast forward two years, and here we are: the release of their debut album “City of all”.
"City of all” shows an admirable level of sophistication and matureness and effortlessly bridges genres across its 13 tracks. You can feel the amount of thought that has been put into this record, with songs happily blending into each other as Makèz submerge themselves in their concept of accidental encounters, inclusiveness and what it means to live in a city like Amsterdam.
On “City of all”, Makèz bring together all the musical influences they’ve picked up in their life as music fans, clubbers and art students. The jazz-funk of opening track “The entrance” feels breezy, casual almost, like the freeform rhythms that are played in a jazz club during soundcheck. That energy also oozes from “Not so different”, which features the smooth vocals of LYMA. There’s a hint of the house-meets-R’n B vibe that made Anderson .Paak the star that he is now. The song is brilliantly funky and shows the songwriting and arrangement talent of Makèz, who cleverly use pop & soul cues to create one of the album’s highlights.
What follows is 4 cuts ranging from the syncopated Balearic funk of “Orbit”, the strings of album title track “City of all”, the organ-led jam “Gonna getya" and the downbeat “Sonder”. Allysha Joy -best known for performing in Melbourne Hip Hop collective 30/70 - is featured on the deep and jazzy cut “Looking up”. If Makèz and Allysha are all looking up, it’s clear they’re seeing the same thing. These kindred spirits perfectly complement each other on this track, where the deep bass, warm harmonies and jazzy percussion prove to be a perfect foundation for Allysha’s rhymes.
Is it an album all about jazz and soulful tracks to listen to at home? Far from that. There’s a nice bit of dance floor-oriented tracks, where the distorted filter funk of “Roselane” featuring Fouk proves to be a highlight along with what is arguably the heaviest cut of the album: “Bent with funk”.
In an EP context, these house tracks would surely do their work, but they really come to life in this album format. No compromise has been made to storytelling and the house tracks all play their part while still standing their ground as powerful club tracks. It’s the expert production and smart arrangement that gives this album its casually funky feel. On “City of all”, Makèz showcase their remarkable talent for writing an album that goes to so many different places, but most of all, just really feels like home.
Enjoy the music,
Maarten & Lars

Sounding simultaneously from the past, the present, and the future, the debut album 'MLDE' by Marxist Love Disco Ensemble seeks to eradicate both the trite from disco and the sobriety from political music. Half poetic, half tongue-in-cheek, this stunning compact eight-track album is influenced by Eastern European and Mediterranean 70s disco records. In the words of band member Paolo, ''it was written in response to hearing 'I love America' by Patrick Juvet. The song prompted the question: why does disco, a genre originally created by oppressed minorities, eventually become synonymous with American capitalist excess?" MLDE seeks to break this connection.
Merging disco, post-disco 80s pop, and boogie into the fold, 'MLDE' was recorded using only analogue instruments, giving it warmth and space. Recorded on cassette, ¼ and ½ inch tape, this gives moments of lo-fi abstraction between the beats of an aggressive, tight drum kit. Instruments used for this recording range from saxophone, trumpet, harpsichord, guitar, and rare analogue synthesisers. The bass sound is shaped by early 80s boogie records, whilst the influence of artists such as Hamlet Minassian can be heard in some of MLDE's more driving-disco outings, such as 'Hues of Red'. In the tradition of Soviet vocal group records, which the band has studied, some songs are sung by a vocal quartet in homage to this tradition.
Tracks such as '1905' and 'Brumaire' have a greater pop aesthetic, with Paolo's vocal style on these more pop-driven songs evoking early 80s bands such as Orange Juice and Chas Jankel.
The format and message of pop and disco are commonly viewed just to entertain and move bodies around a dancefloor; however, lyrically, the subjects range from dialectical and historical materialism, class struggle, Marxist theory and praxis, as well as the concept of Marxist disco music.
Adding the icing to the cake, mastering don Joker aka Liam McLean dusted the album with his magic, giving the songs space where the room is needed, as well as the kick and punch demanded by the modern dancefloor.
Yes, this is a press release, and they are always full of hype, but we were blown away when we heard this album, and we hope it enriches you too.
It's the 9th innings, the bases are loaded and Schatzi's at the plate...
Will the knight of the night hit the ball outta the park and into the lights? Yes, of course: you've got sliced up disco, chopped up chants, piano riffs and steady rhythms to go all around the bases.
Whether it's a Brooklyn home game or away, Schatzi always has you covered for the win!
Signs point to Schatzi!
What do you get when you combine one of history’s greatest vocalists with one of our era’s most gifted discotizers? There’s only one way to find out! Al Kent has been on a roll of late, and it’s pretty certain that this record will find its way into an awful lot of DJ’s boxes.

Back in 1985 the Kae Williams II penned and produced album “Genie” delivered, such under the guidance of executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus, a brilliant combination of soul and disco-tracks. Boogie natives the BB&Q Band’s – Dreamer perfectly encapsulates the music of the 1980s. Introducing Curtis Hairston as the then new vocalist, it delivered chart-positions for a.o. “Genie”, “Ricochet”, “On The Shelf” and… “Dreamer”!
Arguably, the decade when music was real music.
Michael Gray has donned his long satin shirt and patent brogues to bring the “Dreamer” classic up to date with a fantastic new house remix.
His tight percussive groove, punchy bassline, and pad work take the vocal and track to another level along with uplifting pianos! A classic-sounding gem – ready for the charts again!
We need more dreamers!

Controversy, Prince's fourth album, originally released by Warner Bros in 1981 and now re-issued by Rhino with original content.
For the most part, the album was an expansion of its predecessor, 1980's Dirty Mind. This record was considered to be his most political to date. The album was also an important stepping stone from his early works to the more mature song writing of the mid 1980s.

If you’re in the middle of a soul searching effort, we’re more than willing to point you in the right direction! ReGrooved has taken it upon itself to rerelease an otherwise lost treasure called Dancin’ in the Flames of Love by Regina James. This record first saw the light of day back in 1978 and was never reissued on vinyl.
Not only was this album the only one ever released by the singer, it seems that security has claimed her ever since. Only three singles under her name have come forth, one standalone 7” called ‘Gee Wiz Boy – backed with ‘My Man Is Coming Home’ - followed by ‘Alfie/Dancin’ in the Name of Love’ in support of her album. After the Maxi-Single ‘My Love (Ain't Gonna Never Let You Get Away)’ – again using ‘Dancin’ in the Name of Love’ for the B-side – she has literally vanished from any and all charts.
Her legacy lives on, though. Apart from the obscurity that surrounds both the record and its performer, another important detail makes this disc an important collector’s item. For it seems that Regina James was a protégé of none other than legendary songwriter, producer and vocalist Clarence Reid, who actually became (in)famous through his controversial XXX- rated stage persona Blowfly!
Many of the songs on Dancin’ in the Name of Love were written by him – including the title track. Catchy soul, funk and disco rhythms are given an extra dimension by various synthetic sound effects and James’ sultry vocals. She often uses narration to introduce a track and ease the listener into the subsequent grooviness.
Enjoy this formerly lost treasure!

Albert’s Favourites co-founder Adam Scrimshire is set to release his fifth album 'Believers Vol. 1’, featuring guests And Is Phi, Bessi, K.O.G., Omar, Xana & Faye Houston, Penya, Stac and Tamar Osborn. The album draws from Scrimshire's passion for jazz, soul and electronic music of all styles; from energetic Afro-disco through lushly orchestrated neo-soul to harmonious jazz experiments.
'Anadwo' opens the album, a bright, Afro-disco inspired groove written with Ghanaian artist K.O.G., and is possibly Scrimshire's most extroverted track to date. Regular collaborator Stac and Brighton singer and producer Bessi sing on snappy neo-soul tracks ‘Where Are We’ and ‘Lost In Space And Time’ respectively. And Is Phi brings an eclectic mix of jazz, poetry and improvisation to ‘Chance Me’ while ‘Transformation’ stars acclaimed saxophonist Tamar Osborn. Genre-defying quartet Penya feature on global-jazz epic ‘Tanto Tiempo’ and the incomparable Omar joins with Xana and Faye Houston on album highlight ‘Love Is Loving’. Cosmic-jazz instrumental ‘Peaceless Peace’ closes out ‘Believers Vol. 1’, ending a bold and positive album filled with creativity and joy.
“Writing and producing my last album, ‘Listeners’, opened the floodgates for me. I’ve written more in the last 18 months than in years. Practicing for the live band levelled up my playing and opened up possibilities in writing I couldn’t find before. Since then I’ve written more than two albums worth of “Scrimshire” songs. But I really wanted to try and focus the experience and separate between music that represented the positivity and optimism I’ve experienced in recent years against my more introverted and angrier instincts.
‘Believers Vol.1’ represents warmth and hope. Everyone I worked with early in lockdown, seemed to want to express those longings for physical and emotional connection too. The whole album reaches out, I think it’s full of long embraces. But it is also, for me personally a love letter to black music and the black artists that shaped everything I care about sonically, from my very first memories of music until now. It draws from sounds I grew up around in the early to mid eighties, classic records from the seventies that I’ve never tired of, but important dance records from the late nineties and early 2000s that celebrated and subverted those ideas too.”
Scrimshire released his fourth album 'Listeners' in summer 2019, which was supported across BBC Radio 6 Music, including an Album of the Day feature, as well as by Jamz Supernova, Jamie Cullum's Radio 2 Jazz Show, Worldwide FM and Amazing Radio. His earlier albums ‘Bight’ (2013), ‘The Hollow’ (2011) and ‘Along Came The Devil One Night’ (2009) were released on the Wah Wah 45s label, where he’s also now a co-owner and director. He has continued to gain support for his successful “Scrimshire Edits” series and has produced and mixed records for artists including Stac, Daudi Matsiko, Bastien Keb, Ronin Arkestra and Jonny Drop. Albert’s Favourites was formed by Adam, Dave Koor, and Jonny Drop, who designed the logo and artwork, and has released records by Hector Plimmer, Ronin Arkestra, The Expansions, Huw Marc Bennett, and Jonny Drop.

Al Kent takes on Japan’s answer to Vince Montana for another extended disco mix, with the emphasis - as always - on disco! Judging by the popularity of the pair’s last outing this release should once again please those DJs and music lovers with a penchant for the percussion, strings and traditional instrumentation that underpins the best disco music, bringing it up to date with one eye firmly on the past.
Joel Holmes is a phenomenon that fits perfectly into the musical scenario of the next years. 35-year-old american jazz pianist and 4 times Grammy nominated. He was the musical director of Carl Craig’s Synthesizer ensemble as well as the keyboarder in legendary Grammy wining band of Roy Hargrove (the IT jazz artist from the late 1990ies, who later died.) Holmes is always hunting for the new, so he moved to Berlin a few years ago. Being interested in what’s happening in that new dance world. Similar to Jazzers from the 1970ies like Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones who turned into disco stars Joel, the jazzer wanted to connect with the new Berlin electronic scene. He succeeded, teamed up with upcoming London house kid Cody Currie and the Toy Tonics crew who is working on new sounds in Berlin that connect the organic and jazz musicians scene with the dance and house world. Developing a new style of Jazz-House… (that has nothing to do with sampled jazzy‘ house! If you know what we mean). Joel and Cody Currie released 2 EPs that had a good buzz mainly in the UK and USA. Big support from the Worldwide FM and BBC Radio world as well from tastemaker DJs such as Bradley Zero, Gilles Peterson and Masters at Work. While working on these EPs Joel created a kind of new jazz-dance universe around him in Berlin. He curates a bi-monthly jam session in an underground location where the crème de la crème of the international ex-pad -musician scene meet up. Joel became THE MAN to hang out when American musicians come to Berlin. Like when Erykah Badu was doing her Berlin gig in Berlin in 2019, after the show all the band moved to Joel’s place to have a legendary jam session. Yes, there is a lot of happening in the new Berlin Jazz meets Electronic scene. And Joel Holmes is in the center now. So it’s time for a Joel Holmes Solo EP.

As big fans of food here in Calypso, we asked Linja to provide us with the ideal dish to marinade his EP 'Iced Peaks'.
URAL DUMPLINGS is the choice by the Moscovite new member of the cult. It is one of his favorite local dishes and the ideal companion while listening to his cold modular master piece. To heat things up on the release we invited Brazilian papi Pigmaliao who delivered a hot electroish remix.
Always remember: Ural dumplings taste better with vodka in the company of a dear neighbour.

A tasty pair of chunky, beefed and dubbed up disco delights courtesy of the Cardiology label and every bit as likely to get the heart rate pumping as the name would suggest. The Owl's 'Groove Engine' steps up to the breach on the A-side, the slightly slower of the pair but blessed with a thumping framework of four-to- the-floor sturdiness on which funky keys and an almost Afro vibe are tastfully and decoratively hung. Flip track 'I'm Gonna' by C Da Afro is constructed from more archetypically traditional old skool disco ingredients, from the Sister Sledge-esque female vocals to the shooting, strings. There's a nice amount of dub behaviour via the desk, enough to elevate it into orbit but not so much that the song elements of the track are obscured. Nice work all round.

Sharing with you the debut Album of Nice Girl titled “Ipsum”.
As a natural progression from her prior singles on Public Possession the music has a very capturing energy, although essentially machine music every single sound on the record seems connected with mother earth.
It’s rooted in the common ground that is home to all of us: the soil that nurtures flora & fauna, the air we breath, the water we drink, the sun & moon that shine upon our bodies.
One tribe, a million rituals, a common ground: The Dance (the Beat). Repetitive rhythms creating a sense of community & togetherness.
Brit Funk at it’s finest! Tony Simmons eye-wateringly expensive ’83 jam ‘I can’t let you go’ backed with Soul Shack’s cosmic masterpiece ‘Galactic Funk’ from 1980, reissued for a new generation.
Stepping up first ‘I can’t let you go’, slaps a smile on your face before you’ve even got 30 seconds in. Harnessing that raw, live instrumentation energy that made up so much of Brit Funk’s charm, a recipe for happiness via a killer drumbeat, heavyweight bassline, dazzling guitars and uplifting vocals. With originals trading hands for close to £200 this reissue will be welcome sight for many.
On the flip, a cosmic kaleidoscope in the form of Soul Shack’s ‘Galactic Funk’. Slap bass at boiling point, synth lines to tingle the spine and raucous chants to send your head to another dimension.
Two Brit Funk gems that you need in your life!

Basic Fingers returns!
Sameed brilliantly join the dots between dusty disco samples cut 'n paste frenzy and jackin' house on 'Old Songs'.
Don't let the name scare you though, these are timeless joints.
The jazzy interlude 'Quarterback' sets things off perfectly with its mellow strings followed by 'Join The Party', an uplifting slice of drivin' soul.
On the flip Sameed continues the roof-raising treatment with 'Horns N Tht', last but not least Sameed gives us a chi-town inspired track, 'Walkin', proper dirt...
For an understanding of the past, you have to look to the future – or was it the other way round? No matter how you want to put it, some things are an aesthetic choice, and the meaning of style does not necessarily go hand in hand with the latest fashion fad or an incurable retromania. Chinaski’s debut (album under that name) on Running Back seems predestined to resume these discussions. Drenched in sepia colors and faded VHS tapes memories, fed by a science-fiction that never became a fact, essentially made with the ultramodern instruments of yesteryear (see back cover for further reference) that became redundant through their own relatives and a need to ensure efficiency (time, space, money), it’s either concept art, an ode to Disco Piu, a post card from the early days of Frankfurt’s Dorian Gray or the search and itch for a time machine.
All of the debate above is rendered useless by the title though: No Pop, No Fun! And those are the main musical reference points here: instrumental pop that you can dance to, pastel melodies that stick with you and fun frequencies. Downtempo ballads for video game characters in love meet cabriolet anthems and scooter songs. Perfectly composed and carefully made.
If John Hughes would have ever aspired to make a high school movie set in a post-apocalyptic Italy: this is what the score would probably sound like.

Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy presents Balearic Breakfast Volume 1. An eleven track compilation of gloriously transcendent genre-hopping music inspired by one of the most listened to shows on Worldwide FM; most tracks impossible to find on vinyl.
How does one make a Balearic Breakfast?
You need to obviously start with one part blissful sunshine, rising over one part white sand, set to the sound of the sea looping back and forth. But what else - that perfect, idyllic backdrop aside - sums up that most important time of the day, specifically when spent right in the heart of the most glorious archipelago in the western hemisphere?
Luckily, DJ, broadcaster and producer Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy has perfected the recipe.
Colleen has been mixing together Balearic Breakfast shows on Worldwide FM for the last few years after starting in earnest during the first pandemic lockdown. Her shows offer a remedy to the pressures of the outside world; each is curated with the admirable aim of trying to “create a musical atmosphere for escape”, be it from bad weather or bad vibes.
Inspired by formative experiences at The Loft in NYC and on the terrace at Space, Colleen’s Balearic Breakfasts are endlessly eclectic and always inspiring, pulling together - in her words - a “hodge-podge of chill out, spiritual jazz, deep soul, percussive house, quirky disco, indie-dance and what may ‘traditionally’ be called ‘balearic’ (whatever that may be).” Basically, the kind of music you want to hear as the sun breaks over the horizon.
For her first Balearic Breakfast album (lovingly compiled for the ever-visionary Heavenly Recordings), Colleen has put together a set of songs that allow the listener to drift with her between myriad genres and join the unseen dots between them. The journey takes in shooting star ambient sounds, deep soulful hypno-house, ecstatic Neu-esque locked grooves, ethereal sea-shore jazz and Southern Hemisphere starlight disco, with tracks by artists such as Friendly Fires, Mildlife, Linkwood and Lady Blackbird (a track praised by Elton John, who called it “a groove that blows my mind”) and producers such as Andrew Weatherall (under his Asphodells alias), Ashley Beedle, Coyote, the late, great Phil Asher and Cosmo herself.
Flowing together, the tracks perfectly create that musical atmosphere for escape - a recipe for daydreaming yourself into a Balearic Breakfast state of mind. Tune in and leave the everyday behind. The sun’s rising overhead and the waves are at your feet, whatever time of day it is wherever you might be in the world.

George Smeddles kicks off his new South label with a pair of standout tracks backed by his own different remixes. The UK artist is someone who has had heavily-supported releases on some of the biggest labels worldwide, and has played all of the most vital underground clubs. He now steps out with a superb first offering on this exciting new label.
Opener 90s is a throwback tune with tight drums and rich bass. The kicks power it along while old school chords add the fun and colour. It also comes as a Smeddles Piano Mix which is even more uplifting and feel good with diva vocal stabs and yet bigger chords.
Malt Whiskey then slips into a deep but dynam ic house framework. Bulbous bass underpins the groove, and twisted synths and warm pads fresh it out. Smart vocals add some soul and ensure maximum response from the crowd. The LDN Dub Mix then pairs it back, making it a tech house kicker perfect for those back room spots.
This is a great foundation to what is sure to be a vital & exciting new label.

Some V/As are dubious in their length, seeming to span both EP and mini-compilation length in equal measure, but not this one, which definitely seems to know what it's about. Moiss Music are no stranger to this format, here presenting their second vinyl release 'Watermelon Jam' after the first EP-length four tracker, 'Strawberry Jam'. Nu-disco, funk and house is the name of the game once again, and the tone is set by C Da Afro's 'That Funky Horn' via sample-filtering soul and raucous trumpets. The vocal cuts on this record are among its highlights; Disco Endeavours' 'So High' carries Brandy-esque chirps along a funking house backdrop, while the best of the bunch - 'Feelin's Mutual' by Pookie Knights - channels Carmen or Sylvester in its syrupy refrains and jet-set arps. Even a samba house bit closes it off - a swell all-rounder.

One of the most sought-after italo-disco release, the combined effort of Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici and Alexander Robotnick saw the light of the day in 1986 on Fuzz Dance, Materiali Sonori sub-label ran by the wizard Giampiero Bigazzi. Florence born producer and musician Maurizio Dami, created a mysterious character, a so-called “modular structure born out of a soviet calculator and promptly runaway”. His classic “Problemes D’amour” was featured on the influential Strut compilation Disco Not Disco 2. GMM was an even more enigmatic character, one of the most unclassifiable audiovisual experiences to emerge from Italy in the 1980s. Maurizio Dami itself was responsible for the group’s music output, while the unit was founded in 1984 by Antonio Glessi and Andrea Zingoni as an art collective whose production represents the quintessential expression of postmodern transmedia hybridity.
First 7" ever on Disco Fruit comes by label boss Tonbe. Beatiful Housy track blended with Soulful ,Deep and Nu Disco influences, also includes powerful Soul/Gospel vocals. Perfect combination and maybe Tonbe's best single so far. On B side is an instrumental version of the same track.
"1959" is a concept album dedicated to my father. The main theme is based on my particular perception of travel and movement, which are both narrated with similar and different electronic sounds at the same time. The double vinyl edition is divided into 4 sides entitled "Moon", "Flight", "Space" and "Land". The vocals of some tracks, such as "The Aircraft", were made with fragments of vocal announcements recorded in the airports during my tours. The plane, already featured on the cover of the single "Lux", is interpreted as a mysterious vehicle that travels in space-time. The album cover instead portrays my father's motorcycle, as if it were suspended in the sky during the transition from night to day, which in this case symbolizes the transition from the noise of earthly life to the stillness of eternity. In this new work of mine I found my Synth-pop, Electro and Ambient influences, combined with rhythms that lend themselves well both to listening and to the dance floor. Enjoy it!

It's debut time!
Making his first appearance on wax is Manchester's hottest property, Approach Release. When he isn't creating cross-genre chaos behind the decks, this genial gee mans the tram, so you gotta know he's comfortable at the controls.
In addition to a clean drivers license, the man is in possession of some seriously deep crates and this three-tracker sees him pick out a few obscurities in serious need of some scalpel.
The A side serves up the swooning space disco of 'Krypton Factor', a mid-tempo trip into the mirror ball nebula which pairs sweet female vox and dramatic sax with malfunctioning electronics and chest height bass riffs. File it under set opener, sci-fi frother and future anthem!
Over on the B side, A.R. indulges in a little beatific boogie via 'Coma', an outer national excursion building from bubbling bass and classy keys into the eventual heart-swelling vocal, an arms aloft moment if ever we've heard one.
We've been dropping this anywhere there's a CDJ and are just as happy as you lot to have it on wax. Approach Release makes it three hits out of three on the B2, as a slept-on slice of synth-pop Francais gets a necessary extension and leaves its lame chorus on the cutting room floor. Tune in for taut drum machines, playful melodies and a chic vocal.
100% Drum Fun Guaranteed.
After a long process, we managed to get in touch with an Australian duo that went by the name of Boxcar in the ’90s, producing a lot of music ahead of its time. They’ve recently started re-issuing their songs with modern producers on remix duty and after asking Romain FX to work on a remix, it was only natural that Fauve Records would work on a limited-edition vinyl-only release with a stellar cast. For this edition, we have asked some of the coolest cats in the game to hand us a remix with their specific touch and an array of bangers came about. Donald’s House with a rave house-inspired remix, Fabrizio Mammarella with a more EBM/Italo touch, Jonny Rock with a dubby finger-licking-good take, and of course Romain FX with an intergalactic voyage.

Disco Segreta reveals another music mystery !
This EP – taking 4 years in the making – marks the first ever 12” release of the elusive downtempo italo-boogie tune “Guarda l’Amore”, sung by the mysterious italian duo Gianni & Donatella, only previously available on the impossibly rare 1987 “Disco Italia” compilation LP, released on the tiny italian “Disco In” label.
Our archives diggin’ job proved to be incredibly fruitful, to the point that we’ve unearthed four *previously unreleased* demo tracks sung by tracks author Walter Canducci along with Gianni, supposed to be part of an LP release that ultimately never saw the light of the day….until now, and guess what – they’re jaw-dropping!
Starting with the slap-bass funk bomb “Si, No”, then going into the late-night love maker “Amore Mio”, topping it all with the mellow beach vibes-infused “Come Allora”. On top of that, you’ll also get an alternate “Guarda l’Amore” demo version.
We will never know how these lo-fi demos would sound if the original project of Gianni & Donatella singing on all tracks succeeded, but the only existing recorded evidence can sure give a feel of this unique italo-boogie studio project, that has a space in the most respected DJ bags only.
As usual with our extreme quality standards, reissue is from actual analog multitrack and stereo masters!

Hear & Now's Story Is One Of Friendship And A Shared Passion For Music. It Began With A Chance Meeting On The Dancefoor At Red Zone In Perugia, One Of Italy's Most Legendary Clubs
Of The 1990s. Nearly Three Decades On, These Glassy-eyed Clubbers Have Joined Forces To Deliver One Of The Most Magical And Sun-kissed Albums That Claremont 56 Has Ever Released. By The Time Ricky L And Marcoradi Frst Joined Forces In The Studio In 2016, Both Had Become Established Producers Within Italy's Vibrant Deep House Scene. Between Them, They'd Released Records And Remixes On Such Labels As Ibadan, Uomo, Reincarnation, Top Tracks, Restricted
Tracks And Vega. Keen To Step Away From The Dancefoor, They Decided To Simply Create Beautiful Music For Bleary-eyed After-hours Sofa Sessions, Lazy Summer Afternoons And Early
Mornings Spent Blinking At The Rising Sun.
Aurora Baleare, Their Debut Album, Follows On From A Fantastic Double A-side 12' For Claremont 56 In February 2017. Those Two Tracks Take Pride Of Place Amongst An Eight-track Selection Simply Brimming With Evocative Workouts, Gentle Soundscapes And Noon-bright Sonic Bliss. While You'll Fnd Luscious Instrumental Cuts Designed To Inspire Baggy, Glassy-eyed Shuffing - See The Mid-tempo, Spine-tingling Brilliance Of salsedine', Mind-massaging hirundo' And Dreamy Slow-house Treat sabbia Magica' - It's The Effortless Brilliance Of Marcoradi's Improvised Guitar Playing And The Duo's tmospheric Approach That Really Catches The Ear.
Check, For Example, The Heady Horizontal Shuffe Of trasimeno', Where Poignant Ambient Chords, Jazzy Electric Guitar Solos And Deep Space Electronics Tumble Down Over Shuffing Beats And A Squeezable Synthesizer Bassline, And The Sun-down Adriatic Wonder Of stella Dei Venti', A Track So Effortlessly Loved-up And Blissful That You Might Be Overcome By Emotion (it Certainly Had Us Daydreaming Of Days Spent Exploring The Intense Natural Beauty Of Italy's Adriatic Coast).
Moments Like This, Where The Duo's Dreamy Electronics And Smile-inducing Melodies Seemingly Shimmer Across The Sound Spectrum, Can Be Found Dotted Throughout Aurora Baleare. There's The Darting Digital Synthesizer Motifs, Sparse Hand Percussion And Ricocheting Solos Of airone', The Italo-disco-inspired Chugging Positivity Of la Marsa' And The Title Track's Humid Beachside Breeze, Where Intertwined Electronic And Acoustic Lead Lines Seemingly Glimmer Like Rays Of Sunshine Bouncing Off The Surface Of A Becalmed, Crystal Clear Ocean. Their Roots May Be On The Dancefoor, But Hear & Now Are Fast Becoming Down Tempo Masters. You Can Dance If You Want To, But You May Just Want To Hug A Stranger Instead.
Formed in Ohio, Dayton were formed by: David Shawn Sandridge (lead vocals / guitar) Chris Jones (lead vocals / keyboards / trumpet), formerly of the group Sun. Other members were: Dean Hummons (keyboards) Derrick Armstrong (vocals) and Jenny Douglas (vocals) who originally recorded as Magnum. Kevin Hurt (drums / percussion) Rachel Beavers (background vocals) Elaine Terry (background vocals) Rahni P. Harris (lead and background vocals, piano and synths) and Karen Harris Chappel (lead and background vocals) We chatted to Shawn Sandridge who presented us with a few previously unissued cuts. Many hitting the funk sound that was very en vogue around the 1980's. But our pick of the bunch was the smooth syncopated drum sound of "Sky's The Limit". It jumped out straight away and hit all the right buttons at SDE Hq . Criminally overlooked for some reason as an lp cut. With the release you get the full 6 mins version on the B-Side. Whilst we trimmed it down for a nice loud radio friendly cut on the A Side

Emotional Rescue looks back again with a 2022 repress, digging deep in to the early 80s Bristol post punk scene of Pig Pag, the Wild Bunch and the Dug Out club. A short lived project of just 3 releases, Mouth trail-blazed leftfield percussive jams in the rich vain of Liquid Liquid and ESG but in their own jazz-infused way.
Centered round the cultural melting post of the St Paul's district, it's pubs, clubs and blues parties threw together young and old to the sounds of dub, funk, jazz and soul and took the spark lit by punk rock and new wave and spawned music that still resonates today.
Consisting of a floating line up based around main members Andy Guy and Rob Merrill, alumina included a young Nellie Hooper before he would go on to be a founding member of the Wild Bunch and on to produce the likes of Bjork, U2 and Madonna.
Based around a hard tribal drumming, mixing guitar, trumpet, shouted vocals and effects, the thrown in the mix nature was inspired as much by avant-jazz than punk's do it yourself attitude.
Here then, on one EP are their complete recordings, including as the title cut, their best and deepest, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. Featured on a compilation LP from the legendary Y Records, its bottom heavy dub sound is augmented by female and toasted vocals riding a top a heavy stepper style riddim.
This is followed by an increasingly dizzy array of percussion jams. Acab (Part 2) is all skips and trumpets, while the versions of Take Your Coat Off perfect skat vocal / tom interplay, before the finale busts out the rockabilly influences in full effect with jagged guitar, skipping hats meets double bass punk style.

S-Tone Inc., one of the most acclaimed artists on Schema Records, with +300.000 monthly listeners and millions of plays on Spotify, is back with a full rework of his previous full-length "Body & Soul", a homage to the late '70s / early '80s disco music that the artist used to immerse in during those adventurous years. Early '90s British acid jazz, '70s soul, Brazilian and jazz music are here reworked in a nu-disco key, with the exception of the downbeat tracks "Flying Away" and "Midnight Sun" and the 'spacey' "Odoya", rearranged by The Invisible Session without mining the overall mood of this release.
Mit den oft gesampelten Tracks 'Funkanova' (DJ Sneak, The Bucketheads, Black Science Orchestra), 'My Lady' (Pete Rock), 'My Darling Baby' (Erykah Badu), dem Ronnie Laws-Klassiker 'Always There' sowie der Extended Version von 'Welcome To The Party' (bislang 12inch-only).

Duke about this EP: Ironically one of my very first records was a disco sample in 1990 taken from Queen Samantha. I don’t know exactly what inspired me, but likely coming from the Hip Hop world where everything was looped and sampled brought me to doing the same for house and therefore the disco, funk etc samples for the house stuff. The first techdisco EP was done in 1995. I think there may have been a handful of other house records out that sampled disco tracks at the time. Harvey Mason’s Groovin you comes to mind. Sneak also had done a few, but maybe Pal Joey was one of the originals too that used loops, particularly Dance by Earth People. Joey also came from the Hip Hop world so we likely were inspired by the same style of loops.
The main concept was the idea of fusion. I was heavily into fusion jazz in the early 90s and that is really what spawned the techdisco and techfunk series. A mix between genres that hadn’t really been done before. Not saying I was the first, but I did my best to create a new and distich style.
I did everything myself when it comes to the techdisco series. In 1996 I traveled a lot DJing, in the states but mostly in Europe. I didn’t have time for a resicency at that time like I had prior to me being full time DJ/producer/label owner. I did do some remixes back then, but maybe not as many as I would have thought. Perhaps because people looked at me as having my own label and doing my own thing.
Savage is the original ‘80s Italodisco pop star, worldwide famous singer and platinium record producer of Europop and house artists such as Zucchero, Alexia, Double You and Ice Mc. Composer and writer of various multimillion worldwide hits. His real name is Roberto Zanetti. Throughout his career he has used two different professional names, "Robyx" as a producer, and "Savage" as an artist. In 1983 he produced a dance single entitled "Don’t cry tonight", chose the stage name “Savage” and started his career as solo artist. The song was a huge hit in Italy for first and all Europe later and was invited to take part in many TV shows such as "Mister fantasy", "Discoring", "Pronto Raffaella", "Azzurro" and "Festivalbar".
Thanks to the catchy melody and timbre of his voice, Savage quickly
became one of the most appreciated singers in Europe, one of the creators of the “Italodisco” movement. From 1983-85 Savage was continuously on tour, performing about 300 shows throughout Europe, in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Sweden and, of course, Italy. In the meantime other singles, "Only you", "Radio" and "A love again", were released and included in his first album “Tonight". In Eastern Europe Savage is still one of the most popular contemporary artists. After more than 30 years, DWA is proud to announce the re-print of this album on vinyl, a special gift to all collectors of Italodisco’s hits.

Armonics made quite an impression with the stellar “Universal Oneness” on Diamonds in the Night Vol.1. Now the Italian synth magician returns to the Bordello with Prison Planet, an EP sizzling with the same sensational sounds that graced his first appearance. Dark nights and rising cities are conjured in the soundtrack grandeur of “Mind Guardians” before the solar synthwork of “Prison Planet.” Elements of the otherworldly course through the four tracker, fantastical images and the splendour of space being captured for the floor. The B-side maintains the magic with the crusading crescendos and swashbuckling lines of “The Awakening.” BPMs rise for the finale. Chords dance and twirl with spritely charm in “Spiritual Gate”, neon flecked percussion racing to the finish line.

This time we pay tribute to the overlooked work of italian musician Luciano Zanetti. Still relatively unknown to most, he was born in Lecco, where he graduated in violin and piano at the local Conservatorio, but then focused on acoustic and electric guitar, spending most of his life as a musician and teacher.
The only recorded evidences ever published by Zanetti are incidentally just two disco-related 45s. The one presented here, “Volo Delta”, was a synth driven space disco track released in 1976 on Zanetti’s own private label Rot, before such niche subgenre found its way into disco productions.
But we discovered that “Volo Delta” was just a part of a sort of “space suite” Zanetti had been working on: a wonderfully cinematic blend of downbeat electronica, chiptune, library music and mellow synth-work recorded in 1975, sounding way ahead of its time, perfectly rendering what was the concept of “future” and “space” back in the 1970s.
The EP “Space” presents for the first time the original slightly extended version of “Volo Delta”, and three *previously unreleased* tracks: “Esplorazione”, “Incontri Ravvicinati” and “Verso Base Terra”.
As usual with our extreme quality standards, all tracks are taken from the actual analog multitrack masters and respectfully remastered.

Italian disco band - made up of 3 elements - tooks its name from a
gay-club in Rome. The group was formed by Paul Micioni (the disc-jockey of Easy Going, who after a few years becomes one the creators

The first hit of 1978 Baby I Love You is the epic song that successfully opens the way of the italian disco music abroad, is produced by Giancarlo Meo & arranged by Claudio Simonetti, both forerunners of the Hi-NRG and Italo-Disco scene.

The intoxicating songs of the Sirens found in the bay of Napoli are irrististible to all, lured to their sounds as if by magic. Writhing to their hypnotic and sudctive voices. Through the warm, soapy waters of Naples Bay. Partenopes music echoes round the pillars of rocks until listeners can bear it no longer and they are pulled onto the dancefloor, as if transported to another land.

'Mysticisms' prides itself on finding the groove, but with a nod (and wink) to discerning ears. However, sometimes it's right to just let it all out and go route one. Berlin based producer Daniel Scholz aka (DJ) Leinad was all about the dancefloor, releasing a series of simple but highly effective EPs of cut up, looped house music that summed up that late 90s Chicago-NYC-London-Paris influenced bombs.
The jack that house built the "heroes" with the "touch" Souvenirs embodies Leinad's sound. Moving from high-school DJ, to computer programmer to professional producer, DJ and soundtrack artist, remixing for the likes of Yellow and Peter Gabriel's Real World, moving from early classic mid-90s German techno and trance releases on to his 'Leinad' moniker (Daniel spelt backwards), the series of releases on JXP can now go for dizzing sums. In Souvenirs, taken from the Disco Part's III EP, Mysticisms found the source - elastic bass, filtered loops, watertight kick and twisted disco'n' strings, all cut back and forth 'for the party' to abandon.
Present day remixes come from Lewie Day's 'Deep Dean' project, offering a wonderful example of an artist at work, a laid back groove, pushing all the right dancefloor buttons, all presented with respect to the past, but with acres of modern day swing; Mysticisms' own cohort Piers Harrison, side stepping his edit school as one of Soft Rocks, to produce a literal peak time acid banger; and to close the 'DJ' returns, Leinad offers a bumping 2022 remake to show he's still a teacher.

Nothing like an edit is from an obscure acid jazz track that made its rounds in the underground disco scene in Chicago. Played by veterans like Sadar, Lee Collins & Ron Trent at clubs like Slicks & the B-Side Café.
Don't Cha Wanna get down is a rare groove monster chopped from a Funk 45 and kicks off with tights drums, bass licks and crazy synths coupled with some sick brass stabs and a touch of vocals that keeps it all in check and make you wanna get down, get down.
Played by: Rahaan, Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Marcellus Pittman, Jamie 3:26, Kai Alce', Zernell & Soul Clap.

Andromeda Orchestra returns with an original dub disco peak time floor filler. Sounds fx dub over a throbbing bass line before the chorus drops, launching the latest EP into soaring high disco heaven.
"Dance Closer" is the title of this latest offering from Faze Action brother, Rob Lee, that sees his signature organic production style right where it should be; front and centre.
Accompanying the title track is a darker, dub work out called "Primo Ventura" along with the Salsoul-esque "Inferno," before the stuttering mid tempo "Hoops," with its slap bass and wigged out synths, rounds things off.
Oozing with disco dub goodness, this four track EP is one you'll be reaching for at any occasion.
Much in demand album from 1986.
Not much is known about the mysterious pop sensation Vumani or his short musical career. Originally from KwaZulu Natal he made his way to Johannesburg in the mid 80’s to follow his dream of becoming a recording artist. He was able to make that dream come true when talent scouts from Decibel Music came across the charismatic youngster. At the time Decibel was still a small fish trying to make waves and the label believed in Vumani they had found the star they were looking for. Being a label with mostly groups signed to the catalog they needed a Front Man to push into the growing demand for Solo Artists that were dominating the airwaves and catching the hearts of youngsters.
Up to this point Decibel had one major hit record. In 1986 they released a single by an artist named David Thanzwane. The music was a direct rip off of the first hit Single by Shangaan Disco pioneer Paul Ndlovu. Copying the music of both sides of the original single the “covers” offered different lyrics and hooks also sung in xiTsonga. This was enough to trick the masses and the single led to record sales for the small label. The unintentional outcome of the single was that from then on the producers and label had one sound they wanted to pump out in hopes of recreating that magic. This desire to create another Shangaan Disco hit would be the backbone of the Vumani sound and what makes his music so special and collectable after all these years.
That same year Vumani would release two Singles, Black Mampatile and Guy Fawkes. Musically these playful and fun singles would have great appeal to youngsters as they sung of daily life in the Townships. Black Mampatile being a game of Hide and Seek, Banana Kari referring to the trucks that would go around the Township exchanging chips and snacks for glass bottles and of course every child’s favourite reason the dress up on November 5th, Guy Fawkes Day. Both singles were received well and a few more tracks were later recorded to create the full album Isiqedakoma. Although he would sing in Zulu the music was unmistakable for Shangaan Disco. The synth heavy bass lines and happy melodies along with relatable fun lyrics were a perfect blend for an album that would make people dance if they were out at a Tavern or Shabeen on a weekend or just enjoying at home with family and friends.
Vumani quickly became the Label’s top priority with managers making sure he always had the freshest clothing styles to go along with his persona, and he never missed any performances or opportunities to impress a crowd. His popularity grew in the Township’s but with that came the unfortunate and all too common problems with fame. He started getting mixed with wrong crowds. He would record another album for Miracle Music, the Decibel sub label that had emerged to focus on the more underground sounds of the post synth pop era. Musically things were going well for Vumani but it would be his life off the stage that would catch up with him. Always known for his commitment to his music and fans one day he uncharacteristically failed to show up and was never heard from again. His body would later be found in a burnt car on the outskirts of Soweto. What led to his tragic death was never known but with the company he kept it is not hard to imagine what one of the many situations that led to that horrific ending could be. His funeral was attended by the entire Township it seemed as people packed the service and flowed out onto the streets, a testament to his popularity and the love the people had for one of their own.

One of the most diligent underground DJs from the ranks of Detroit's finest, whose bodacious style has bubbled up from the underground to become highly in demand by the house scene's tastemakers, Detroit's Filthiest stays true to name with his debut for Defected. Since he was sampled by Disclosure on 'Bang That', Detroit's Filthiest's genre-hopping abilities have really resonated. The pounding 4/4 beat is infectious and the sass-laden vocal hook is hard to forget after being blasted out relentlessly throughout the year. Defected draft in the skills of Belgian nu disco king Aeroplane for this special 12' vinyl package, delivering as always with a melodic electro-influenced banger, shining a whole new light on Amina Ya Heard's vocal attitude. The 12' comes equipped with instrumental versions of the original and Aeroplane's remix, plus the Accapella, making this the most complete DJ-friendly package available.

Remixes[14,24 €]
Originally released in 2010 on their own label, Brooklyn nu-disco group Escort’s ‘Cocaine Blues’ is now lovingly revisited by Glitterbox Recordings, re-introducing the dancefloor essential to a new generation of disco fans. A loose remake of disco-reggae classic ‘Cocaine in My Brain’ by Jamaican DJ Dillinger, Escort’s ‘Cocaine Blues’ with its relaxed, disco approach and catchy vocal soon became a hit, with this special 12” package featuring Escort’s original and their instrumental, as well as Greg Wilson’s remix, where he takes the stripped-back approach with minimal vocals and enhanced drums. It may have been over a decade since it was first released, but this package still sounds just as good as it did when it first graced dancefloors.
