Killer disco-boogie-funk from 1982!

Featuring Italo-Disco legend SANGY (Firefly) and co-produced by Tony Valor.

Originally released in the US on the Chaz Ro label with generic sleeve, here’s the first ever vinyl reissue with new artwork.

• The Classic Example were a Los Angeles duo - possibly the song-writing team of Curtis Colbert and Harriet Hurst who provided four of the songs on the eponymous 1972 GSF LP. Inexplicably the superb dance track ‘Right On’ was the only one omitted from the album, but Kent’s licensing deal with Mickey Stevenson’s Stevenson International revealed this gem.
• It was finally released as a promo 100 Club Anniversary 45 in 2021 and has been in demand ever since. Now it can be purchased at a reasonable price with the duet’s excellent harmony ballad ‘I Found Me A Girl’ added on the B side. The backing group is none other than Hodges, James, Smith & Crawford.

• The Hytones were Nashville’s top soul group and under the tutelage of genius producer and songwriter Bob Holmes, made some great music. ‘You Don’t Even Know My Name’ was their first release on the short-lived Southern Artists label before it was released on Bell. It is an exceptionally smooth style of singing by the group - in unison for much of the track.
• ‘Good News’ by contrast is a gritty Stax-sounding mover that was first a 100 Club Anniversary single before being issued as a Kent 45. Now regarded as a rare soul classic, its release on a Southern Artists repro label will be welcomed.

• Since its first plays at the 100 Club in the 90s, the San Francisco TKOs’ ‘Make Up Your Mind’ has been a revered sound that consistently packs the dance floor - with soul music devotees who like their music edgy. It first appeared as an Anniversary single and has sold out of its previous Kent pressing.
• We have taken the opportunity to re-release it coupled with the group’s beautiful ballad version of the Miracles’ ‘Ooh Baby, Baby’.

We've got two brand spanking new exclusives for the latest Z Records 7 inch record. First up is 'Reach For It' Afrom The Sunburst Band with it's uplifting Mtume/Lucas feel, glorious vocals from New Jersey singer Tiffany T'zelle (fans will know her from Dave Lee's 'Produced With Love II' album) and all the usual star players of The Sunburst Band. Then making her debut on ZR is Queen B Unlimited with '27 Sided', an ultra smooth dose of modern disco-soul. It's and expertly produced love song about us all being different shapes, trying to find our match, we suggest turning the lights down low for this one.

What’s the point of running a label if you don’t open it up to homies? Leave exclusivity to posh people, inclusion is the word. Pordenone is a small town in the NorthEast of Italy at the heart of what EU calls “Corridor 5” which is the complex road network linking the italian peninsula with the Balkan regions and Austria. If you are heading east, most likely you’ll find yourself passing through this nice little town which happens to be my hometown aswell. Further than that, or most probably thanks to that, this area (Western Friuli region) has alway been prolific mother to a variety of musical activities. Beyond The Great Complotto and the Perseo’s Mods and Rockabillies
- the prime movers who put Pordenone on the italian map of the underground youth - from the late 70’s to the early 2000’s there has been quite a lot of other relevant subcultures. At the dawn of the 90’s, while the whole world went crazy for house music and
quite fast transformed it from a neighbourhood tale to a massive business, from the underground to uptown, becoming the soundtrack of jetset crazy nights with ultrapaid djs and door selections, in Pordenone a bunch of carachters kept doing their thing. They
were all about finding new barns where to party hard, putting together Frankenstein Sound Systems, mixin up original funk 12" with the house stuff comin from uk and the states, travelin in n out of the balkans with their record boxes, finding empty parking
lots at the sunrise to sit on the tarmac and let the party night fade away passing spliffs in between brothers. I will always remember once, during the usual quest for the best sunday morning parking lot, we stumbled on a group of hobby anglers going fishing
on the shores of the very same creek we had just partied hard at. An embrassed silence while crossing eyes, us with dark shades on and beats on background, them carryin’ fishing rods all dressed up in camo stuff. I still piss myself everythime those memories
spring to my mind. Tigers Den is the name of this posse and “North East Groove” is a production of today, with the flavour, the roughness, the colours and the sound of those times.

Ecstatic Meditations’, the follow up to 2016’s acclaimed debut solo outing ‘Interludes’, features six beautifully crafted new tracks leading with an edit of the 20 minute album opener and lead track ‘Journey In Ecstasy’. An adventurous deep listening experience, the new collection was recorded, mixed and mastered by Furse at his electronic studio on the Margate coast.
A sonic tapestry of sound that takes inspiration from the likes of Alice Coltrane, Laraaji, Eno and Steve Reich together with a new found appreciation for Japanese environmental music composers such as Akira Ito and Yasauki Shizimu. The result is an intense yet playfully refreshing take on ambient and electronic music.

Die Band wurde 1965 von dem charismatischen Sänger und Bassisten Sky Saxon gegründet und gilt bis heute als einer einflussreichsten Mid-60s Garagen-Bands überhaupt. Die Songs des Debüts 'The Seeds' war sehr einfach und zeichnet sich durch einen rohen, ungeschliffenen Klang aus. Die Single-Auskoppelung 'Pushin' Too Hard' erreichte durch häufigen Einsatz im lokalen Radio Platz 36 in den Billboard-Charts, und war nicht nur deshalb der größte kommerzielle Erfolg der Band. Aber auch 'Can't Seem To Make You Mine' wusste in den USA zu punkten. The group "Onyx" was formed in 1972 the members
were Aaron and Wendell Basey, Malvin Scott, and
Ronald Busby. Ronald left the group to pursue other
interests and was replaced by Cornelius Weekly.
We were reared in the San Francisco Bay Area,
specifically Oakland and Alameda, California. We grew
up singing in our School and Church Choirs. We all
began singing in quartets while we were teenagers in
Junior High School. Malvin sang in the group Morry
Williams and the Kids. They had a national hit
titled "Are You, My GirlFriend." The Basey brothers
sang with several groups in California, none with
any recording history. The Basey's were
the founding members of the soul group Natural Four. After
that, along with Malvin, they started the singing group "Onyx."

Later, the Basey Brothers started their own label NIA. The
name NIA was selected for, in the Swahili language, the
word NIA means purpose. The first song recorded by Onyx on the NIA label was "Break It Loose."
They subsequently recorded the songs "Time Take me Back,"
and "Keep on Waiting." Other songs were recorded but never released, "Help Me," "Give a Little Bit," and "Spellbound."

Welcome everyone to our 2nd previously unissued tv soundtrack, & what an honour to put out some of this amazing tv & film music history. Back around 1977/78 Stu Gardner and his group "The First Cousin Ensemble" who recorded the wonderful LP "For the cos of jazz" were signed to powerhouse label Capitol records. The group consisted of many members of Stu's close musical network. And often changed personnel. On the Two Block Hero soundtrack we had such heavyweights performing like James Gadson (Drums) , Rudolph Johnson (Saxophone) Ray Parker Jnr (Guitar) & Melvin 'Wah Wah" Watson . Stu was approached by the big wigs at Capital to lay down a soundtrack for a new TV movie that was in production called "The Two Block Hero" a tale of growing up too fast , not learning life's real lessons of family values and working hard to make a living. For some reason towards the end of the production the TV movie was scrapped and the subsequent music lay dormant on a reel at Stu's house for all this time. The music represents the feeling towards the end of the 1970's, creating lush layered production skills but keeping the raw energy of a film score.

Before there was Saturday Night Fever there was underground disco. DJs across America went out and found the music to play; dancers went out and found the clubs. At this point, in the early seventies, the disco was the venue and not a genre of music.

By the time Nik Cohn’s short story Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night was published by New York magazine in June 1976, disco was the biggest genre of music on the charts and was about to get bigger still, becoming an all-enveloping cultural phenomenon. Cohn sold the film rights to Robert Stigwood, and his classic club yarn became Saturday Night Fever.

“Tribal Rites Of The New Saturday Night” is the soundtrack to Cohn’s story, where disco began; a 1975 score for the underground clubs of Brooklyn and Queens that played R&B, soul and Latin beats to people who lived for the weekend.

Bob Stanley has put this collection together, sourcing what was actually played in Brooklyn discos in 1974 and 1975. Only a few specific records were mentioned in Cohn’s feature, but two of them – Ben E King’s ‘Supernatural Thing Part 1’ and Harold Melvin’s ‘Wake Up Everybody’ - were cosmically great and both are included here, alongside underground favourites like Moment Of Truth’s Four Tops-like ‘Helplessly’ and Gloria Scott’s Barry White-produced modern soul classic ‘Just As Long As We’re Together’. Ivano Fossati’s incredible ‘Night Of The Wolf’ has fans in northern soul, disco and prog circles.

Without Cohn’s original story, it’s quite possible that disco would have remained an underground phenomenon – “Tribal Rites Of The New Saturday Night” paints a scene in full flower. Saturday Night Fever would eventually, if unintentionally, wreck the underground nature of this scene, and clubs like Studio 54 would destroy the democracy of the party, but for two or three years the scene was largely undocumented and magical. This album is the sound of disco before it was captured.

We're starting a series of official reissues of 45rpm singles about incredible rare music made in Central America during the 60’s and 70’s. We’re taking great effort in giving these tunes a second chance. These are songs full of potential that fell by the wayside, that didn’t manage to be a hit in their home country, that came out as minimal pressings or only for promotional distribution on local radio stations. Locating one of these original pieces represents a titanic labor that only a few will succeed.

This first 7” entry exhibits two bands from Costa Rica who were influenced by Brazilian music: Via Libre and Grupo Amigos, from 1974 and 1976, respectively.

Two hallucinating cover versions in Spanish, originally by Marcos Valle and Trio Ternura. The full story of how these bands absorbed obscure Brazilian sounds is unfolded in the liner notes.

Flächendeckender Release der B4E LP des US-Produzenten Yung Bae von 2018, die bislang nur in Miniauflagen im Eigenvertrieb erschien. Yung Bae ist einer der prominentesten Vertreter des Vaporwave-Subgenres Future Funk, der Electro-Funk-Sounds mit japanischen 1980er City-Pop-Samples zu einem verspielten Disco-Pop kombiniert. Er spielte auf Coachella, arbeitete mit Method Man, Mike Posner und Jon Batiste zusammen und veröffentlichte bis dato acht Alben und unzählige EPs.

Originally released on seven-inch by the tiny PRM label in 1986, ‘Witches’ was the product of a sister-brother song writing team whose music was mostly recorded in the front room of a terraced house in Nanpean, a small industrial village in Cornwall, England’s most south-westerly county. While the single was infectious and dancefloor-ready, it sold in limited quantities at the time.

Zenana’s story can be traced back to the early 1980s, when singer-songwriter Anita Tedder founded the all-female trio as a vehicle for her socially conscious and politically charged songs, with a burning desire to put strong depictions of women front and centre. To bring Zenana to life, she joined forces with her brother Mike, an early adopter of electronic music who had built a small studio in his Cornish home, and recruited two fellow bandmembers, Penny Griffiths and Ruth Elder.

This specific release is a limited reissue that the band created in 2023 and holds three more songs ; The Final Winter, The Touch Of Woman & When The Comet Comes. This issue comes with an 8 page booklet including background stories as well as historical photographs.
