Dear Reptilian Santa, we're sorry...

192 rec is taking the music industry by surprise with a 3rd EP right in time for end-of-year celebrations instead of a Best Of Christmas Songs. Kizoku is dropping with Waited Too long EP a pure nostalgic shot of raw tech-house straight out of the Stud, with naughty basslines, haunting melodies and funky rhythms. Already an after classics.

Lips & Rhythm
10.01.2023

Izzy Wise makes a return to the Lips & Rhythm family with another sultry 7" EP expanding upon his love for so-called world music and expertise in heavy grooves. This EP arrives after his self-imposed isolation in the jungles of Nicaragua during 2020 and features two pure melodic jams we just had to share with you.

The title track 'Night Swim' has a long and enchanting flute lead that will take you upriver for a moonlight rendezvous. On the B-side longtime collaborator La Kata returns to lend her flowing Spanish vocals on the rhythmic number 'Semillita.' Izzy Wise once again transcends musical boundaries with this warm and stellar release.

MR K - One Step Back Two Steps Front

The latest collaboration between Most Excellent Unlimited and veteran DJ and editor Danny Krivit takes the form of a 12-inch single celebrating the hardcore high-energy sound that often fueled nights at the Paradise Garage - uptempo and passionate.

Betty Wright was a queen of modern soul music whose career bridged multiple generations and musical styles. She made her professional debut at an impossibly precocious two years old with her siblings' gospel group and scored an international pop hit with "Clean Up Woman" when she was just 17! The single went gold in 1971, the same year Danny Krivit began professionally DJing and was the first among many records of Wright's that would become important in Krivit's sets. While he regularly featured the mid-tempo stepper "I Love The Way You Love" and the bright, funky "Where Is The Love," given our focus on high-energy Garage classics Mr. K's pick from Wright's oeuvre for this single was naturally "One Step Up, Two Steps Back." A 1984 release produced by Amir Bayyan, younger brother of Ronald "Kool" Bell of Kool & the Gang and a successful producer who was infusing the early '80s club scene with quality cuts like "Funn" by the Gunchback Boogie Band, "Give It To Me" by Conquest and two strong singles from Tomorrow's Edition. The sound of "One Step Up" is prototypical big drum mid-'80s, with the added touch of a Morales & Munzibai Mix on the 12-inch. "Not many other people knew how to play it the way Larry did," Krivit recalls, "It had a lasting affect on me, which inspired this edit". This version Focuses on the intensity & building of Larry Levan only using the key elements of the dub mix, and emphasizing the late-song emotional peak of Wright's vocals, giving it a much tougher edge.

Eddy Rosemond's recording career may have been but a brief flash compared to Betty Wright's, but his song "(Wake Up And Move) Funk It" punches well above its weight on the flip of this high-energy Garage excursion. Riding giddily over a peak time disco groove, the singer from Martinique's similarity to Sylvester is uncanny. For a Garage audience who adored Sylvester's signature sound but were left unmoved by a lot of his '80s releases, "Funk It" became a surrogate for the sound they'd come to love. Krivit's edit rightly features the much-sampled cosmic synth hook, still sounding futuristically funky as ever, and loses none of the frantic power of the original.

Roisin Murphy - Play Thing / Like

Warehouse find !

Following the release of 'All My Dreams / Innocence' last month, today Róisín Murphy unveils the second pair of tracks in her series of four scintillating 12'singles produced by Maurice Fulton and shared across consecutive months this summer through The Vinyl Factory. Having taken control of all aspects of her work in recent years, Murphy delivers yet another amazing vision with a series of films to go along side her new music. Filmed over a two day residency in London's The Store X, the 'Plaything' video follows 'All My Dreams' From Moloko onwards, Murphy has always gravitated towards a deep groove. But here, with Baltimore maverick musician/producer/DJ Maurice Fulton, she's gone and made some of the most hip-twitching, pleasure-centre-stimulating music of her life. And it's being released in the only correct way for sounds so intimately connected to the dancefloor: on a series of 12' singles, with stunning graphics from Portuguese New Yorker Bráulio Amado.

'Ultimately its about dancing,' says Murphy. 'My kind of dancing: all low and funky, allowing itself to be a little out of control. It's all very simple in a way but Maurice has spent a lifetime immersed in music for dancing. His experience and depth of knowledge is undeniable. I did as I was told!'

Across all eight original songs, her lyrics are intense, exploratory, probing into dark parts of her own and the listener's psyche - all the while working on the immediate, endorphin-stimulating dancefloor level too - and her voice is finer, richer, more expressive than ever. The tracks are full of the unadulterated, but deeply warped funk which Maurice has honed over his decades of dancefloor experience. This is as vivid and urgent as Murphy has ever sounded, and it bodes more than well for whatever comes next in her absurdly exciting on going voyage of discovery. 'I've got more projects on the go,' she says; 'I've got some new and exciting collaborators on board and I'm hoping an interesting patchwork of ideas and formats will emerge in due time. But for now I'm just gonna dance it out!!!'

Funkadelic - Reworked By Detroiters 3x12"

Funkadelic have created an enduring legacy, and the power of their impact is visceral in Detroit. Their records not only played with genre, but possessed a diabolical sense of humour that led to music domination by the late 70s with Parliament, Funkadelic, Parlet, Bootsy's Rubber Band and the Brides Of Funkenstein all releasing albums the same year for two years in a row.

The music itself is beyond stereotype, but equally huge is that they were a black band not allowing themselves to be limited by anyone else's notions of who they could be, having a massive impact on the next generation of Detroit music, Detroit Techno.

But more than just Techno, it is a freedom of thinking that extends beyond boxes, so we included all sorts of today's generation of Detroit musicians and producers to show the wide range of music that was Funkadelic and how these ideas are still contemporary, they endure and inspire.

LTJ XPERIENCE - HOT GROOVY REMIXES EP

Luca LTJ Trevisi (LTJ Xperience) began his dj/producer career in the 80s. As resident dj in two of the most famous Italian clubs of the time, Kinky in Bologna and Cap Creus in Imola, he was one of the first Italian jocks to spin House and to re-propose those black music, jazz and latin-bossa classics from the 70s that at the end of the same decade would have given birth to the Acid Jazz and Rare Groove movements. His first single
release in 1988, titled First Job, together with Kekkotronics, was also the first release ever on Bologna based Irma Records. It was featured in a lot of compilations of the time and entered several playlists, rapidly reaching cult status for many UK and US djs. During the early 90s LTJ delivered a couple of singles in a kind of pre-breakbeat style: Dont Stop The Sax, released all over Europe, and Funky Superfly. He also produced US singer Tameka Starrs single Going In Circles, always for Irma Records, still a classic in the downtempo/r&b field. In the second half of the nineties Luca began to produce acid jazz bands like Bossa Nostra, still today one of Irma Records main acts. Their first album had Vicky Anderson as special guest and today is still considered one of the most important European acid jazz albums. In the following years he concentrated on developing his activity as collector and rare vinyl merchant, which gave him the chance to get in touch with djs from all over the World and to discover many forgotten gems from the past years. Thanks to this experience he was able to create two extremely successful rarities series on Irma Records:

Groovy and Suono Libero. In the meanwhile LTJ started to dj outside Italy too, performing in important venues like the Blue Note and Jazz Café in London, Giant Step in New York and Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. In 1999 saw the release of his first solo album under the LTJ Xperience moniker. The album was produced with the collaboration of fellow Irma artist and producer Ohm Guru and had Taka Boom and Jackson Sloan among the guests. Two of the main tracks on the album are brazil house classic Sombre Guitar and title track Moon Beat, which became a true hit of the Chill Out genre, featured in dozens of important compilations.

After making countless productions for Irma Records, including their second album When The Rain Begins To Fall (with the participation of the historic Spanish-American singer Joe Bataan), and the recents singles as ORGAN MIND / I LOVE YOU (favorite track by Larry Heard ) & ON THE FLOOR / SOUND MACHINE, LTJ is devoted almost exclusively to re-edit and reconstruct tracks from the past with the addition of sounds and rhythms in post production for labels like SUPER VALUE, SMALL WORLD DISCO, HOT GROOVY RECORDS, OH CRISTO! increasing the production of this new musical genre that is currently defined as beatdown/slo-mo, working with international labels such as Far Out Recordings, Sleazy Beats, Future Classics, E.A.R. Music For Dreams, Apersonal Music, Roam Recordings, !K7.

Andromeda Orchestra - Mozambique

Robin Lee makes his most organic disco sounds as Andromeda Orchestra and Faze Action Records have tapped him up for more sonic treasure here. His signature sound is apparent from the off with the dancefloor dub vibes of EP opener 'Bad Girl.' It's bold bass, string stabs and robust pianos are all run through with a fine Moog solo. There is then plenty of cello and vocal delight to 'Twilight Lady' and a fiery dance floor cut 'Mozambique' as well as a full vocal mix of 'Bad Girll' to close out the EP.
