After a fifteen year hiatus from music making, Pedro Tenreiro, Porto’s veteran and legendary DJ, former A&R, producer and re-edit pioneer behind projects such as Mr. Spock, Illmatic+Phaser and Dancin’ Days, joins Hugo Passos, a key player of the city’s early Hip Hop scene, to form Bonfim.

In the last couple of years they met once a week to have some fun exploring Pedro’s record collection through Hugo’s MPC.
The result is a six track EP of sample based music that draws its inspiration from soulful and, so called, classic golden age Hip Hop, 90s House and leftfield jazzy sounds that reflects the duo’s eclectic tastes.

Gator Boots strapped up and ready to wade in, Jacques Renault leads the expedition with four globetrotting gems, reworked, reloved and rejuvenated with the dancefloor squarely in his sights. One side a double shot of sun-soaked energy and the flip, two late night stompers ready to let loose.

Originally released in 1998 this classic, stripped back, funked up workout from the mysteriously monikered Jean Caffeine (aka The Freaks' Luke Solomon) is a true underground UK House classic. Raw garage-esque drums drive the title cut 'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards', the track skips along while these soul drenched creeping synth melodies and pads completely wash over us and engulf our senses... then, out of nowhere that wigged out bassline appears and we're locked in to a truly sublime groove that won't stop! Over on the flip we are treated to the subdued mellow groove of 'Jean's Train Of Thought', again crazy raw drum programming is accompanied by a sophisticated, bleepy jazzy feeling that goes super deep. The EP finisher 'Jean's Afterthought' carries on the minimal funk vibe of the rest of the EP - lean, driving drums, filtered loops and creeping synth sounds that weave in and out of the mix creating a mildly hallucinatory feel that is present throughout all 3 tracks. 'Downtime, Turn Around And Go Backwards' is a truly unique record with an original style that stood out in 1998 by miles and still sounds ahead of the curve now! A modern classic indeed.

Jamiroquai’s Matt Johnson and Derrick Mckenzie make their Groove Culture debut with ‘Interstellar Love’ Feat. Roki!!

Expertly curated in every aspect – as you’d come to expect from such seasoned producers, with Matt playing an arranging all the keyboard parts, while Derrick handled the drum sections. An original dancefloor bomb made by two incredible artists.

For those that don’t know Matt Johnson is the co-composer of ‘Seven Days in Sunny June’ by Jamiroquai and the mega HIT ‘Hypnotized’ by Purple Disco Machine, Sophie and The Giants. Couple that with the fact that Derrick Mckenzie is the co-author of the Jamiroquai’s classic ‘Cosmic Girl’, with Jason Kay and you’ve got yourself a sure-fire winner.

With heavy support across the board including Defected Records head honcho Simon Dunmore including the song in his Beatport and Traxsource DJ chart ‘Interstellar Love’ is set to be a smasher. While the Original Mix has cosmic funk stylings with nods to JK, The Micky More & Andy Tee Mix is a groovier and more DJ friendly cut created to set the dancefloor on fire. Quality dance music for those that like to get down. A MUST HAVE!

First up, Vagabundo Club Social takes 'Beso Loco' featuring Tomjake Sax and turns up the controls to maximum fun, the Colombians throwing in tons of groove and Afro -influenced percussion, before Monsieur Van Pratt and Guatemalan singer Teff Brolo. Kalita presents the first ever official reissue of Sweet Clover's highly sought-after 1979 disco single "You're What I Need', backed by an unreleased extended mix and the equally impressive 'Sweet Talk', sourced from the original master tapes.

With original copies released in a run of just 300 copies and now hitting top three-figure sums on the rare occasion that they come up for sale, Kalita finally serve up a chance to obtain this lo-fi disco masterpiece once again.

Accompanied by a never-before-seen photo of the band and liner notes based on interviews with writer and producer Willie McClain, this is another no-brainer from the Kalita camp.
