"Emotional Rescue presents the first ever reissue of Sugar Minott’s rare 12” of I Remember Mama. Recorded in Soho in mid-80s London, the Boogie meets Reggae song comes in vocal and instrumental mixes, as well as a wonderfully teasing long Discomix by NAD aka Dan Tyler (Idjut Boys).
Having grown up and become a star out of Kingston, JA, with over 50 albums and hundreds of singles for the likes of Studio One and Black Roots labels, the legendary vocalist was a pioneer of the Dancehall and then later Lovers Rock sounds.
Based in London for much of the 1980s, a chance meeting in the Wackies offices he met producer Steve Parr, who had recently opened the Sound Design Studio next door.
Hatching the idea to create a label to showcase their capabilities, Parr played all the instruments except the distinctive sax by friend Andy MacDonald, while Minott’s delivery is at his prime, storytelling in the Jamaica tradition of hardship and praise.
Released on 7” and 12”, they have striking differences. The “Sound Design” instrumental / version sees the studio team craft a disco meets reggae in a cod-style to wonderful, almost Balearic effect.
The collaboration with Dan Tyler continues, as he again works his desk dubbing magic. Extending and editing between the two mixes, teasing the instrumental before finally bringing the sax and vocals together for a ‘discodub’ finale. "

Completing a trilogy of reissues from the Indipop label, Emotional Rescue celebrates its 10th Anniversary by looking again at the ground-breaking music of Steve Coe and his label.
Founding Indipop in 1981 to debut the single of his new project, Monsoon and the soon to be hit 'Ever So Lonely' that brought to the world (dance) music stage the singing talents of young actress and vocalist, Sheila Chandra.
Having worked with Steve right at the start of Emotional Rescue, it's fantastic his special mix of Indian Classical and Dance Pop under the spotlight once more, highlighting his role in helping to kick start the 1980s huge interest in world music, while achieving considerable commercial success and cross-appeal.
The reissues of The Ganges Orchestra's The Dream (ERC010) and Jhalib's Mysteries Of The East (ERC029) were tinged with sadness as both Steve and John (Jhalib) passed shortly after each was released. Working with Sheila Chandra over a number of years, the idea to bring the sole East-West release back has been a long labour of love.
Only ever released as a white label promo in 1984, the reasons the song remained a mega rarity have been lost over-time; however, its sheer scarcity means it now trades for dizzying sums. Appearing later on compilations, here at last is the first-time full reissue of the Club and Dub Mixes, plus a long-form remix in 2 parts, by label honcho Chuggy.
Possibly the most song based of Steve's projects working away from Sheila, he again teams up with Martin Smith to work with unknown vocalist Usha on what became an unfinished band project idea. Presented in Club Mix, they craft a one-off, uplifting sitar and bass heavy 80s disco-inspired "Klab hit", as well as the instrumental focused Dub Mix that accentuates the sitar play for a slower and steady build.
As this project was painstakingly formed, the B side remix took shape, diving in to the studio with label affiliate DanyTyler (Idjut Boys / NAD), rearranging the best of both mixes, extending and dubbing over 12 minutes of Indian Classical meets 80s Psychedelic clubland Ecstasy and is presented alongside a digital only bonus long Dub for the more nuanced minds.

You can always count on Magic Wand to bring a classy edge to any edit they press, and their latest batch of re-rubs is no exception. There's a downtempo slink and Balearic haze to the tracks on offer here, leading in with RSS' Clandestine Dub' of 'Somebody Told Me' before Baz Bradley takes over with the piano-powerd paean to tripping, 'Acid Love Bath'. Secret Soul Society slip into something more comfortable as they sample Whitney Houston for 'When The Night' and then the CC edit of What I Am does some magic with an eternal Wham! banger.
Comet presents the 2nd release from its new Disco Highlife series, featuring remastered originals
by Ghanaian legends Ebo Taylor & Pat Thomas and disco re-edits by Monsieur Scott and 2 Paris
Septembre.
Founder of Comet Records, Eric Trosset started working with those great heroes of West African
music, Ebo Taylor & Pat Thomas, back in 2010. Taking on the role of manager/publisher, Comet
teamed up with Strut Records and musician/producer Ben Abarbabel Wolf f to revive Ebo Taylor‘s
international career with a string of album releases. In 2014, Eric collaborated with Pat Thomas &
The Kwashibu Area Band on a new album, gathering together the old ‘pals’ (Ebo Taylor, Pat
Thomas, Tony Allen) in producer Kwame Yeboah’s studio in Accra and inadvertently creating a new
hybrid: Afro-Funk Highlife.
It is with great pleasure that Comet launches this second EP of the Highlife series, a soulful afro
touch of new Parisian underground. On Side A comes “Peace On Earth” by Ebo Taylor, a
stunning track from the album Twer Nyame, originally released in 1978. “Peace On Earth” is
definitely a must have! Monsieur Scott, the Paris based afrobeat scientist comes back with a deep
and soulful afro-house remix.
On Side B is “We Are Coming Home” by Pat Thomas, a classic highlife anthem originally released
in 1980 on the LP Stage 2. 2 Paris Septembre is an electronic music group composed of two
Parisian brothers, raised with the music of Fela Kuti. Their production is a mix of electronic music,
afrobeat and hip-hop. “Remixing Pat Thomas was an honor. He’s a true living legend of Highlife
afrobeat music.” Until then get funked with their debut rework on Comet and expect a lot more from
the pair in the coming months.

First EP by Flegon as a three piece band, Extra Twist takes you through different episodes of a mysterious investigation. Five fragments of an unsolved case that almost had the inspector lose his mind, after decades tracking down a fugitive woman he never quite got his hands on. Embark on a journey through time and space, full of shadowing, chase and unexpected encounters.
Giuseppe Scarano's musical journey began at a young age, DJing in some of Puglia's best clubs like Clorophilla, Guendalina, Discorama and Heartz Festival supporting top tier DJs before launching NICEPEOPLE in 2018. His latest is on Constant Sound sublabel Cardiology and features four deep and dusty cuts. From the low slung disco loops of 'In Your Own' and the particuarly thumpin' Same For You' on the A side. Over on the flip, there's the swing fuelled deep house of 'Freaky' and some late '90s filtered house in the form of 'Best Places', cleverly sampling a pop classic from the same period.
Newborn french label RAOI Records is proud to release for the first time a remastered and fully licensed compilation of the two sought after records of Joe Sembene: Heart of Africa & Weur Di Dane/Le P’tit Quinquin. Side A is "Heart of Africa" with the songs "Gorelle" & "Autrefois", two timeless and unparalleled afro/electronic tracks. The first song on Side B is "Weur Di Dane", a perfect blend of afro and boogie vibes.
The voice of Joe's wife, Josy Sene, stands out all along the track, a pure bliss! This is followed by a cover of a traditional song from the north of France called "Le P'tit Quinquin", but Joe gives it a strong reggae twist in the vain of Serge Gainsbourg’s "Aux Armes Et
Cætera"! However, it had little success at the time... After recording these two remarkable and hard-to-find 7 inches at September Records in Lille (Fr), Joe suddenly disappeared… Who knows where Joe Sembene is right now?
