Elements of Life - Eclipse (Part Four) 2x7"

Eclipse Part Four by Elements Of Life, the finale of the four part series bring the collection to a close.
The Johnny Hammond classic “Fantasy” in 7” form introduces Shades Of Melanin, the supporting and lead singers in the Elements Of Life band. The harmonies are heavenly and the ladies (Anané, Dawn Tallman, Ramona Dunlap) sing the song flawlessly. The EOL rhythm section are Josh Milan on organ, Axel Tosca on piano and synth flute, Gene Perez on bass, and Luisito Quintero on congas and percussion, their groove is “pocket”.

“Harlem River Drive” pays homage to Harlem, New York City, and the Mizelle Brothers. Taking it to the salsa street vibes, EOL with Lisa Fischer and Josh Milan on Backgrounds will have you singing the hook in no time. Hearing this on 7” takes you back to the days of collecting 45’s up in the Bronx where the people are fresh.

“You Came Into My Life”, the Roy Ayers penned choon, in downtempo form never released on vinyl is now on 7” with Anané on lead vocals.

“Bass Run”, written by Louie Vega and Axel Tosca, is an EOL Demo, still in the works, and is part of the Elements Of Life upcoming album entitled “Dreamer”, coming late 2022. Enjoy the sounds of Eclipse by Elements Of Life distributed by Above Board.

Oneness - Watching You

Repress coming

Hailing from Leicester in the early-80s, Oneness was a five-man band focused on strictly playing roots reggae. Managed and produced by Sugar’s International, they recorded their only studio release ‘Watching You’ at Rainbow Sound Studio in Nottingham around 1983. “They wanted to play reggae only,” explains producer Dennis ’Sugar’ Christopher. “We were trying to crossover with a mainstream sound, but some of the band weren’t interested in that so we just had the one single. The engineer kept wanting to turn the bass down to meet the needs for radio play whilst the musicians would want it turned up.” Following this, a highlight for the band was supporting Curtis Mayfield at Leicester University before disbanding soon after, leaving this top-rated and essential electro-brit-funk infused recording to be unearthed from obscurity decades later. Available now from Backatcha on 12” reissue.

Running Back Presents - Front Part 2 (2x12")

Running Backpresents

Front Part 2 (2x12")

2x12inchRBFRONTLP2
Running Back
15.10.2018

Running Back introduce a very important Mastermix /Mastercompilation 2LP GATEFOLD+ 24Pg BOOKLET) project centering around FRONT,

a legendary piece of german club culture and their music.

Eponymous Resident DJ´s Klaus Stockhausen and the later on globally known Boris Dlugosch and Running Back take a close look back at that Time, guide you through the early beginnings and absolute key moments on (House Music) Club Culture.
37 (!) legendary Tracks - many of which have not been on sale forever and a day - that mark the masterclass sound of that Era and could be an essential start or - end - point to any great collection. In Addition , the - stunning - Mixing brings back the "Front" itself and must be heard by old and , most of all, new fans , all over.

amburg's Front club was already the stuff of legend, when it was still open. When I was teenager on the outskirts of Frankfurt in the very early nineties - and before the name Klaus Stockhausen rang a bell - Boris Dlugosch was not only at the helm of said club, but also one of Germany's finest purveyors of house music. Front was his home as well as the playground for a colourful bunch of club kids from all walks of life. Its roots went back to the eighties as a gay club and it branched out to anyone who couldn't - even dance straight '.
The rumours about this club were strong enough to get people like Playhouse's Ata on a road trip and have youngsters like me fantasizing about it. The musical menu during that time was the monster house sound from the US and the UK that rotated deepness with hysteric glamour.
Of course, Front's sound was finely nuanced. Boris Dlugosch learned his craft from Klaus Stockhausen, who stopped his DJ career in 1992 (because - as he told me in an interview about ten years later - - every Bratwurst wanted to be a DJ all of a sudden') to pursue a career as fashion editor and stylist.  Stockhausen's thing as a resident (which actually meant to play at ONE club EVERY week during that time), was a mixture between electro, US-American R&B, British street soul, new wave and the emerging house sound. If you manage to dig up old recordings on the internet (a musical diet I lived on for a few years), there are striking similarities to the way classic US-American DJ would play, while adding a fierce uniqueness that won't let it pale in comparison. On the contrary, the sound of Front is one of the most interesting, you will ever lend your ears, too.
So, why a Front mix and compilation 21 years after the club closed its doors On the one hand, because it's story hasn't been told yet and it's worth telling. On the other one, German clubs like Robert Johnson or Berghain - as divergent as they might are - both resemblance Front's spirit, diversity and musical open mindedness. And finally, because dancing is still fun.
Even, if putting a compilation like together this took over one year in the making, is peppered with licensing horrors and other obstacles to dreadful to share them here, we are happy to have it done. Spread over a double-CD and two compilation LPs that are mainly chronological, Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosch picked and mixed some of the club's most cherished records and sweetest moments. This is the sound of Front. And even, if I was never able to move my feet on its dance floor, I for one would be a very different DJ without it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

04.05.2018

Indianizer was born in 2013, springing from the minds of psychonauts drawing inspiration from Animal Collective's wild frenzies and Django Django's tropical rhythms. Following two self-produced EPs ('Pandas', 2013 and 'Jungle Beatnik', 2014), their first full-length 'Neon Hawaii' (Edison Box/PBP, 2015) was released in 2015. Thanks to this debut album, chosen as one of the top 50 records of the year by Noisey, the band toured Italy and Europe. 'Zenith' is the second full-length produced by the band together with Edison Box, Musica Altra and Bordello a Parigi which will be out on the 27th of March 2018: 'a psychedelic texture, ancestral, made possible by vortical bass lines and cosmic patterns. An extraterrestrial cumbia in essence' (Rolling Stone).

Digital Afrika ft. Radouan Naim - Gnawa + Remixes

Digital Afrika return to the fray with this incredible EP for ASW. Featuring the original Gnawa plus it’s acoustic source recording as performed by Radouan Naim in Morocco PLUS two truly excellent remixes from the legendary Jose Marquez and Melbourne’s own TEYMORI (Amin Payne).

The original source recording for this track was laid down in Planet Essaouira and recorded by Zhonu “Nui” Moon (Digital Afrika ) on one of his many cultural trips to his ancestral home land. The studio is situated on the Moroccan coastal town of Essaouira , a cultural hub for the Berber (indigenous Moroccan) traditions.

This enigmatic town , popularised by the beatniks and bohemians of the 60ʼs, most famously by Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones , has a mystique all its own as well as a long musical history.

“Gnawa” in Berber language literally translates as “Trance“ music , and is traditionally performed in “Lilas” musical ceremonies accompanied by dance that can go on for days .. where the purpose is to produce trance-like states of being where different types of healing or catharsis can occur ..

The recording was then brought back to Melbourne, Australia. Where the Digital Africa team applied its electronic Afro-house touches , while keeping true to its original North African aesthetic.

DJ Monchan - DJ Monchan Edits

Brooklyn based, DJ Monchan, steps up to perform some surgical edit wizardy on four mouth-watering tracks for the ever-dependable Razor-N-Tape.

'Reaction Control' kicks things off with a joyous disco gem, DJ Monchan extending and echoing those killer groovers to create a whirlwind of dancefloor delight. Next up, 'Dance It All Out' has a touch of the exotic highlife sound to it but reworked into a DJ friendly, irresistibly bouncing jam.

Flip it and it's back to the late-night NYC soirees of the 70's with 'Can't Promise' channelling that pure unadulterated fun into an ethereal edit of magnetic proportions. Taking the final slot of RNT042 'Get Down With Your Love' closes out proceedings with a silky smooth soulful heater.

Vol.4[11,22 €]

After indulging in a little free movement over the first two releases, Vol. 3 sees us back in blighty, hanging loose with a hometown hero!

Way before our bongos had really begun to beat, Neil Diablo was slaying the hand-stamped edit scene with razor sharp disco reworks on his To Rack & Ruin imprint.

His energetic and effervescent sets at El Diablo's Social Club were the stuff of legend and his occasional appearances behind the Piccadilly Records counter helped pack the TD racks with some of our favourite floor fuel. Here, our newest Drum Chum digs extra deep with a triple threat of balmy Afro-disco, comic book funk and disco uplift.
Loose-limbed and laid back, 'High Emotion' stretches out across the whole of the A side leading the kind of slow motion dance we can't get enough of.
Potent polyrhythms underpin scratchy rhythm guitar and slick slap bass while that echo-laden vocal just keeps lifting us higher and higher.

The B side bounces into being with the synthed-up strut of 'Sex-N-Drugz', a portal into a parallel universe where Prince painted the Compass Point Paisley and the tempo never exceeded 100bpm - it's tropical pop served cooler than Kia-Ora.
The finale comes with the misty eyed magic of 'We Can', a triumph of snapping Italo snares and boogie optimism which shifts into bliss via a totally tops off chorus.

Keep the cowbell ringing folks!

S. Fidelity - Fidelity Radio Club - Toy Tonics Remixes EP

Versatile producer S. Fidelity pairs up with renowned Berlin-based house & disco imprint Toy Tonics to release four track EP “Fidelity Radio Club – Toy Tonics Remixes”, paying homage to DJ and club culture with dance ready edits.

The success of S. Fidelity’s sophomore LP “Fidelity Radio Club” (April, 2021) is still culminating. Widely recognized as a highlight for instrumental beat music this year, with recent track placements on Spotify’s Editorial Jazz Vibes and Butter Playlists, each with over 1.9M Followers. Now, S. Fidelity teams up with the unmistakable sound of Berlin’s Toy Tonics to rework four of FRC’s track to perfectly fit dance floors worldwide as they slowly reopen.

Toy Tonics label head Kapote as well as TT label artists Cody Currie, Rhode & Brown and Sam Ruffillo deliver four high quality club renditions from FRC. The EP, only 500 copies pressed, is to be released via Jakarta Records on September 3rd. Musically, the EP combines the feel-good, beat factor of “Fidelity Radio Club” with the dancefloor ready house, disco and funk grooves that Toy Tonics are known for. The EP will be a perfect follow-up to S. Fidelity’s previous Jakarta releases, which have gained more than 3.3M cumulative streams on Spotify alone.

The 1st single, “Me At The Zoo feat. Àbáse (Cody Currie Remix) is to be released on August 13th along with announcement of the pre-order for the Limited 12” EP. The upbeat collaboration with Cody Currie – who has more than 2M cumulative streams on Spotify – takes the swinging groove of the original and gives it a Balearic, percussive, dance-ready vibe. Currie, a London-born DJ and producer has been on the rise since moving to Berlin and teaming up with talent from the city’s jazz and house scenes. He’s released two EP’s with Grammy nominated pianist Joel Holmes on Toy Tonics as well as the mini album “Atlantic Exchanges, Vol. 1” with Felipe Gordon on DJ Haus’ Shall Not Fade in 2021. This year Currie also shared his first solo 12” on Toy Tonics, “Moves EP”, which showcases his sublime ability as a producer to blend elements of feel-good house, disco, jazz and UK garage into each other.

The three other tracks are set to be released as digital singles on the physical release day, September 3rd, in order to maximize playlist reach and hit each of the artists release radars. Toy Tonics head honcho Kapote, a.k.a. Mathias Modica, takes S. Fidelity’s boogie tune “Something Good” and spices it with a catchy piano lead line, infectious drum programming and several synth solos. Kapote, with more than 3.5M cumulative Spotify streams and over 97K Monthly Listeners, ran Gomma Records for more than 15 years, where he produced and released the likes of WhoMadeWho and Rammellzee.

Rhode & Brown remix “Presumably Broccoli”, a straightforward hip-hop instrumental, which they flipped and “reverso-ed” into a just as straightforward high energy dancefloor gem. The duo from Munich have been delighting house music fans with rock solid productions on such labels as Toy Tonics, Permanent Vacation, Public Possession, Shall Not Fade and their own Slam City Jams imprint, establishing themselves as one of the most consistent house producers groups. Most recently they released their debut album “Everything Is In Motion” on Permanent Vacation.
Bologna-based Sam Ruffillo rounds out the EP with a deep and meditative house rendition of S. Fidelity’s “Higher” featuring Àbáse on keys and a prolific vocal recording of Steve Arrington. The Italian DJ and producer debuted on Toy Tonics just a year ago with the pandemic inspired EP “Sport House”, offering jazzy-house alternatives to dancing while clubs remained closed. Sam Ruffillo received co-signs and spins by the likes of Romare, Folamour and Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Basement playlist.
The release will primarily be promoted by the artist’s and label’s ocial media accounts and profiles.
