Szymek Lawik and Maritn Lefteri’s regular party and NTS show, Feel the Drive, turns record label with a debut release that takes you through the gears.

Spending their lives digging up the very best Italo, New Beat and EBM delights, a record label was the next logical move for Szymek Lawik and Martin Lefteri. The perfect distillation of their combined tastes and determination to search the globe for new music, the four-track debut EP features big hitters from Franz Scala (Bahnsteig 23, Tusk Wax, Cocktail d'Amore), Anatolian Weapons (Beats in Space, Dark Entries), Furor Exotica (Bordello a Parigi, Sprechen) and the label bosses themselves under their Ondata guise (Red Laser, Night Noise Music).

First up is Franz Scala, with “Sabrina”. A pulsing, new beat thrum bolts out of the gate, setting the pace with heads-down conviction. This straight-ahead velocity soon leans into guitar licks and Italo horn stabs and, before you know it, you’re transported - hugging the curves and corners along with the motorik rhythm.

Next, we shift down a gear and head east for “Ela” as Anatolian Weapons lights up the skies with a slow-burning intensity delivered with complete conviction. Exotic synth melodies, impossibly dextrous string playing and rolling acid lines carve out a unique path through the terrain, leaving no choice but to follow in its slipstream.

Argentinian duo Furor Exotica pick up the pace with “Fat Training”, an arpeggio-supercharged dancer guaranteed to lift the spirits and recharge the batteries come 3am. This is a track that carries its momentum up front and its boogie in the back. There’s a nod to the old new beats, but with wide eyes facing resolutely forward.

And then it’s time for the last lap. “Kolossos” is an apt moniker for this no-nonsense, heads-down, full-force monster. It’s a neon-lit tunnel late at night – unfamiliar, alien light throwing repetitive, yet slowly shifting shapes against sheer walls as you move through. “It’s not as bad for humankind to be dominated by me than to be dominated by others of your species” a voice intones as we reach our destination.

It’s metal machine music to save us from ourselves.

Various - Perfect Duality Series

The Series continues and this time Anton Scruscru comes to us with his friend Sergey Timoshenko and incredibly brilliant tracks filled with warm and jazzy vibes. Flip the record over and you are hiding in the shadows with Common Mode and Flabaire, whose tracks take us far away on their waves. Enjoy!

Selected DJ Feedback:

Jimpster - Great sounds on this release! Flabaire caught my eye but all tracks are good. Will play something on my next sofa session

Admin - Sounding nice and Jazzy!

Sable Blanc - What a great compilation of tracks. I feel like there's more thought into having 2 different sides. Side A is for the classic and warm house lovers. And Side B for the more shallow and mellow explorators. I love Common Mode and Flabaire's tracks!

Michael Diamond - Artwork is sweeeeet as usual. I like the idea of having a different mood/feel on each side - it keeps the listening experience fresh. Both sides bring the vibes, but in particular I'm really liking Flabaire's track. Top release yet again.

Saint Paul - Great 2nd release from Deeppa Récords ! I loved it as much as the first "Perfect Duality series" EP. I'll play them for sure. It was hard to choose one but my favorite track is "A2 Scruscru & S.Timoshenko - Jubilee Boulevard".

Carman Bryant - Midnight Star/Take a chance

York Pennsylvania born and raised, R&B vocalist Carman Bryant has performed throughout the U.S. and all over the world. There’s a saying in the Harrisburg/York Pa.area “If you want a seat, you better get there early” for a performance by Carman and her band.
Carman's recording "Midnight Star” is an unreleased recording that was produced many years ago by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The original studio masters were lost when Cecil moved to England because Teddy Pendergrass stopped performing. "Take a Chance" is a duet by Doug Payne and Carman from the same recording sessions at Alpha International Studios that was located in South Philadelphia. This was during the time that Doug Payne was on the "We are Family" tour with Philly recording group "Sister Sledge''. Doug Payne is a graduate of Howard University Washington D.C., and Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art in New York City, this is the same school that was used for the movie and television series "FAME" starring Debbie Allen and Irene Cara. Doug had two songs signed with TSOP Gamble & Huff's publishing that were selected to be recorded by Phyliss Hyman before her death. In 1981 Doug Payne started his own label in Philadelphia with the release of "HOLIDAY" by Doug Payne & Polygon.
Carman and her son Terrell Bryant aka Nakuu both have been busy lately
recording new music to hit the scene around the same time.Terrell Bryant is
the son of Jason Bryant who started The SOS Band.
Doug's wife June Payne is a former member of Philadelphia recording group The "Three Degrees".

Roz Ryan - Life after love/Sky High

We are now taking wholesale orders for our next release, which is again a lovely double sided unissued affair.

The A side really is one for the connoisseur collector, lovers of rare groove soul and 2 step. With Mrs Roz Ryans vocals always being strong and on point. Accompanied with the class or ex Motown producers and legends Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey. The B side is a real funky little disco plodder but what sets this out from all the rest is the amazing breakdown which we have highlighted in the attached clip.

If i was still making beats on my Mpc id be all over this!!

Welcome to the 2nd release in the Roz Ryan studio reel discovery from 1980. Produced by the mighty Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey their production skills and arrangements never fail to deliver, and they always throw in a breakdown to keep it funky. Roz Ryan is a household name within the u.s and had some great success in the uk with her hit on Mirage records entitled "Boy where have you been".On the A side we have just a wonderful 2 step song called 'Life after love" which is sure to hit a note with those rare groove London collectors. Flip it over for "Sky high" a nice float along disco number, but what makes this track stand out is the huge breakdown in their middle section. One for the beat makers.

Dam Swindle - The life behind things EP

After releasing the ‘High Life' remixes just before summer and their more electronic EP on Aus Music, it’s time to get label heads Detroit Swindle back on Heist. They come in with full force, delivering a set of Swindle styled house tracks, accompanied by a jazzy remix by Volcov in his Isoul8 moniker with guest appearances by Kaidi Tatham on keys and Nigel Bennett on vocals.

The EP kicks off with ‘The life behind things’; a life affirming soulful house tune that’s cleverly built around a set of switching organ stabs. The energy in this track keeps on building with the filter slowly opening up while live percussion oozes its way through the track (courtesy of Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining). After a well working surprise acid break, the track breaks down into a jazzy organ solo by Byron the Aquarius, building up momentum till the full track comes back in for a ecstatic delivery of feel-good dancefloor emotions.

The second original of this ep is Detroit Swindle’s view on what a party-starting piano house track should sound like with ‘Music for clubs’. This track is all about rolling drums, lush piano stabs and possibly the funkiest baseline in four-to-the-floor house music. The latter two are made possible by the quick finger work of their live show collaborator and close friend Lorenz Rhode.

The full B side goes to Volcov’s remix of “The life behind things”. He takes his inspiration from the energy of the original and chooses to set a steady groove where the lush key work of Kaidi Tatham shines both on the chords and a muscle-flexing organ solo. The vocal sample from the original is accompanied by some great ad-libs by Nigel Bennett. With these elements working together in perfect harmony, you can practically feel the good vibes these 3 friends had when recording the remix.

It’s been on our to-do list for a while to record a full-on house record, and we hope this one does the trick for you as much as it does for us.

If you’d happen to be around town during ADE this year, you can get this record a week ahead of its worldwide release exclusively at our Pop up shop on Elandsgracht 55. Apart from the record, we’ll have a limited edition collaboration collection available with Amsterdam-based streetwear brand Baskèts, loads of DJ’s playing sets and you could also just come by for a drink or two.

Yours Sincerely, Maarten & Lars.

Antioco - The Night Break

Antioco churned out his debut ep "The Night Break", two
rich and emotion-filled tracks! "Night Light" is like waking
up from a beautiful dream. The joyful percussion
accompanies a crescendo of explosive grooves that are
drawn-out by an absorbing rhythm, towards a piano solo
composed on a moonlit night.
With "The Black Cat's Shadow" Antioco reveals a deeper
side to his soul through an intoxicating harmonic pad
alongside the bass riff, the vocal sample and the synths
which allow for a darker and more engaging sound.

ETHIMM - BY NIGHT EP

Ethimm scratches the pop, does a pirouette and then takes another direction. Both on stage and in his productions, the young producer from Zurich shows his unique style. After three releases on the cult label Light of Other Days he now shows himself more danceable and club-oriented than ever before. ‘Don’t Go Away’ has already been approved in clubs several times. At peak time the track shows all his power. On ‘Lies (feat. T.A.V.)’ Ethimm speaks directly to us. His pitched voice perfectly intertwines with the beat and the melodies. The slow groove of ‘Island Jam’ is peppered with a penetrating bassline and playful sound snippets. This EP is for DJs and home listeners alike.

Produced by Elisabeth Thimm. Vocals on A1 by T.A.V. Bass on A1 by Reto C. Gaffuri. Vocals on B1 and B2 by Geraldine Roth. B1 written by Warren Doris, Deirdre Heart and Elisabeth Thimm. Mixed by Hannes Bieger. Mastered by Reto Muggli.

Leo Sayer / Average White Band - Easy To Love / Let's Go Round Again (Dimitri From Paris Remixes)

French Disco maestro Dimitri From Paris' Le Edits imprint is back supplying you with the excellence you've come to expect.
As ever beautiful new versions of deep soul and disco classics alongside the most fantastically realised limited physical artefacts are the name of the game. When you buy a Le Edits release, you know you are holding something très magnifique in your hands!

Le Edits No.6 is truly a treat. A split 12" featuring 2 very different artists, reworked to stunning effect. The A-side sees 2 mixes of Leo Sayer's 1977 stepper 'Easy To Love' sit comfortably across the whole side of wax. A real connoisseurs track, this midtempo treat has seen numerous cover versions and has long been a play for underground DJs and diggers for many years. Naturally, Dimitri has crafted these special versions in true Le Edits fashion - with infinite love, care and respect, from the master tapes - we're even treated to a 'dubstrumental' take that eases Richard Perry's languid original arrangement into new places in the best possible way.

Average White Band's anthemic 'Let's Go Round Again' is a stone cold disco classic, instantly recognisable and one of many highlights in the Scottish groups enviable discography. AWB have long been cherished by true fans of disco and soul music, and their music has been sampled, reworked and rediscovered numerous times. Dimitri brings his deft studio expertise and knowledge to the table and turns out a stellar new remix and 'club dub' of this evergreen mover. With much care, sensitivity and unfettered access to the licensors, source audio and tapes, Dim has managed to breath new life into these records and continues his reign as one of contemporary music's top remixers.

All mixes are fully sanctioned and created in conjunction with the artists, rights holders and Above Board Distribution. These releases are 100% official and therefore essential. This isn't an 'under the counter' operation, Dimitri and Le Edit are here to bring back quality and class to the re-edit game by doing things, once and for all, properly and respectfully. All Le Edits releases include a no re-press guarantee. Utilising the highest end tip-on heavy duty sleeves, and outer protective sleeves, pressed onto 100% virgin vinyl. These new mixes have been legitimately commissioned and will not be available digitally. This product cost 4 times as much to produce than your average Disco edit 12’’ because Le Edits believe in quality first and foremost.

Moony Me - Pretentiously Unpretentious

Moony Me ¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? For this lovely piece of black gold
we’d like you to meet Moony Me! The man probably doesn’t
need much of an introduction, but he took some time off the
game so we’re even happier he’s honoring us with his
comeback EP. And what a glorious one it is! When we first
heard the title we immediately thought about all the beauty
and honesty of the electronic music world…Fancy promo texts,
fake third person bios, deep’n’dark artist pics and kids
standing in the front at boiler room. In a healthy way,
“Pretentiously Unpretentious” leaves a lot of that stuff behind
(fancy promo text LOL) and instead offers a package that has
MUSIC written all over it. There’s not a single track on this
record that takes itself too seriously, you’ll always find quirky
percussions and weird synth blobs somewhere. For us here at
the rtct.records headquarters it’s all about the attitude
someone makes music with. And, I mean, would you look at
that picture on the record? It’s friggin’ adorable! It’s all in there:
family values, humor, his niece and a blue tongue. He’s got it
all! Check this record out, there are tunes on there for every
age and bpm while still staying true to the classic Moony Me
danceability. Is that even a word? We don’t care. We love it!

28.06.2021

Parisian label Chuwanaga proudly presents Latitude, Saint-James label co-founder new studio project. Keeping it close to the deep jazz-funk ethos of the label, Latitude brings to the light two luminous songs of joy and hope for a better day, highly danceable yet rich and complex grooves with a human feel to feed your soul and make you move. Their new EP Leo / Attitude presents these first effort with a Dub Remix by Mato: plenty of diverse tastes for every music enthusiasts. Available as Vinyl 12" and Digital.

Latitude is french. Not a random collection of chansons sung in french. Latitude is so french in its sheer elegance, in its simple yet so sophisticated seemingly effortless attempt to groove in a pop context, trying to create moments of grace in the process. Latitude is here with the right vibe as the chorus of "Attitude" says it in french: "It’s the bad attitude, always the good latitude". Latitude is sprung out of the wicked musicianship of Parisian jazz-funk and fusion mavericks and Saint-James tight and adventurous compositions and production. All that jazz combined with David Cukier (Greita) retro-futurist engineering skills in these intense sessions captured in his cutting edge vintage Delta studio.

On A Side, "Leo (Extended Mix)" is an uptempo disco track for the dancers but also a beautiful song for the summer. A seductive number with a pregnant classic French jazz-funk feeling with the help of Parisian singer Club Celest’s energy and beautiful voice. It comes on digital as a short edit for radio but as a serious extended 12inch mix on the vinyl with 8 minutes and 10 seconds of pure pleasure, ending in a real climax after an irresistible percussion break.

On B1, "Attitude" enchanting quality shines with a banging rhythm section and goes for the win as an anthem chorus while sweeping synths keep on growing till the very last drop. On B2, Reggae/Dub don Mato (Stix Records) delivers a sweet dub wise riddim for the Lovers Rock massive.

MOY BOY / JET SET / JIMMY ROSS / STEPHANY - mr disc obscure tracks volume 1

Let us introduce to you the Mr. Disc Organization brand new series
"Obscure Tracks", made of essential, stand-out and rare italo and
electro tracks straight from the label's catalogue, remastered and
pressed on limited-edition vinyl for the first time ever.

A very diverse array of material in this special "Volume 1" that begs to
be explored.

Up first, Moy Boy's "Notte Divina" (Divine Version), originally released
in 1990 and recently spinned by Neapolitan instrumentalists Nu Guinea during their infamous set for Boiler Room at Dekmantel Festival. Jet Set's "Love Dance" is pure diamond of Italo disco with exquisite vocals to carry you away. So much anticipated and requested.

On Side B, the fizzlin' electro of 1984 "New York To Moscow" by Jimmy Ross, with busy, bristling drums and plenty of cinematic atmosphere plus the instrumental mix of the heavy funky italo jewel "Shame" by Stephanie overflowing of tropical attitude coming from 1983. All killer, no
filler!

New Musik - The Planet Doesn't Mind / 24 Hours From Culture - Part II

From the mists of 1981 comes the most contemporary and ground breaking of the criminally underrated London group New Musik, helmed by prodigious writer, producer, mixer and engineer Tony Mansfield (Nick Straker Band, B-52's, Captain Sensible & more).

'The Planet Doesn't Mind' is a flawless piece of shimmering electro disco, uptempo, synthetic, futuristic - almost a perfect fusion of pop and 'proper' electro. A truly exceptional track that stands out through its originality and its sonic aesthetic, the mixing, the lyrics.... everything. An early 80's electronic masterpiece. On the B-side we have the very different, but equally as exciting and forward looking '24 Hours From Culture - Part II', a heavy and moody slice of instrumental dub. A record that, over the years, found favour with contemporary DJ's and producers who sought inspiration from the left-field fringes of popular music, counting Ame and Todd Terje among its fans it is a true left-field nugget, deep and soaked in atmosphere.

This is pretty much a flawless 12" all around, and the fact that it is 37 years old and sounds like it could have been made next week makes it an essential record for any music lovers collection. Sublime.

This is a fully licensed and 100% legit reissue, remastered and repressed in conjunction with Above Board distribution and all relevant license holders.
