Two great 'Tom Moulton' Mixes back to back! 'SOUTH SHORE COMMISSION' were a self contacted soul/funk band from Chicago.
They released their one self-titled, Billboard Dance Chart No.1 album in 1975 on Wand Records from which comes the Bunny Sigler composed/produced track “Free Man” featuring Instant Funk.
It was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. This Tom Moulton mix on “Free Man” was an original feature of the album and is considered one of the first proto-house records.
ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY:
More Philly splendor here from 1973 with “We’re On The Right Track” co-written and co-produced by Norman Harris. Mixed by Tom Moulton. Never previously released before on 12” single.

New 12" from the "Fonk" french master Dabeull, with a lot of vintage synths, 80's sounds and hairy moustache.
Vintage Funk from today.
Back from a tour in Mexico, Dabeull then toured in Europe as support of FKJ. It is during this period that all his talent as a "doctor fonk" was brought to light with his vintage lab, his eighties sounds and its undisputed mastery of his talk-box table ...

In a turn of events, Startree finds itself wading into the slower, more sensual side of things for its third release, courtesy of relative newcomer and super-talent Nelson Bishop. “Alice et les Aloes“ is a heart-rending, melancholic-yet-propulsive piece which impels the dancer in lovely and unforseen directions. The bass guitar holds the bottom down with a easy-yet-mighty, low-slung sleaze, and the ascending electric piano and keyboard figures joyfully take it to the stars. Soulful with modern-rock edges, this is music which endears itself to the listener on more than one level and for longer than one season.
“Still Life Noix de Coco” is rooted in a stomping Linndrum pattern, vaguely post-punk chorus-y bass and wistful, descending organ timbres. Driving and somewhat mysterious, you would do well to time the release of fog onto your dancefloor to coincide with the airing of this jam. Shoring up the other side is Darshan Jesrani’s take on “Alice et les Aloes.” In this version, Darshan takes the track around the corner, through the unmarked door, past the video arcade and straight to the ideal dancefloor, heaving and smiling, warm with bodies emoting to each instrument as it is given space, by the arrangement, to shine. Startree is proud to present this release as a continuing statement of its musical intentions and its simple desire to inspire and have a good time.
Rollover Milano present their second record and the super chic party crew from Italy do not disappoint. Harnessing the vibe of their legendary nights the Celeste EP sees Boot & Tax take to the stage.
Two of the most popular and respected DJs/producers of the Italian electronic scene, most well known for their 2013 bomb the 'Acido Ep' on Optimo Trax, Boot & Tax continue to put their unwavering passion for analog synths and deep knowledge of Italo music to great use. Opening the EP 'Celeste' is a Carpenter-esque patient groover. Stripped back to an essential core, the rhythm and memorable bass line keep you locked throughout. Next up, "Tempo" keeps things stripped and powerful. Utilizing fewer elements in a maximized soundscape, delicious FX work and intricate detail really make this one shine.
For the last original work we have 'Vortice', a raw, crunchy number - freaked out melodics and fucked up beats. This is the track that keeps on growing and growing. On remix duty and closing out the EP, Brazilian outfit Fatnotronic deliver their re-interpretation of the title track ‘Celeste’, a steady paced remix that’s the equivalent of calling in the disco heavy artillery.

Kobza Vajk is a Hungarian self-taught psychedelic folk musician who has been playing the oud and other obscure stringed instruments, like kithara or the lute for more than 15 years.
His main influences are folk and ancient music of all kinds, what brings these together is his contemporary approach of composing and the oriental technique he plays his instruments with.
This release focuses on his original work from the late 2000's with a few reinterpretations coming from established e-music producers.
The title track is a live recording from 2008, perfectly setting the mood for the whole EP: psychedelic shaman music with powerful oud chords and a hypnotic Middle Eastern atmosphere.
In his remix Dutch producer, Perdu keeps one of the main patterns of the original but by adding some extra percussion he turns it into an entranced tribal banger.
Next up is Multi Culti boss, Dreems, who revisited one of the most famous Hungarian folk songs creating a uniquely interesting piece with dubish subs and the twisted main melody.
The final track is a more carefully tempered yet driving remix by Hungarian producer and Budabeats staple, Bete (aka Suhov).

Off the back of the recent Gumba Fire compilation, Soundway
selects more sure-fire disco burners: a 4-track, dancefloor-
orientated EP drawing from the Heads label out of South Africa.
The Heads label lasted a brief two years between 1982 and 1984.
Started and run by the late South African producer and singer Emil Zoghby, it released only a handful of records before folding.
The early 1980s in the country was a time when disco was starting to fade into what was becoming known as Bubblegum: pop music aimed at the black population of South Africa.
William Mthethwa and his backing band the Young Five started
off in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s Mthethwa became a big star not only within his native Sotho community but all over South Africa. As with many of his releases, You Turn Me On' was produced by the renowned engineer and producer Peter Moticoe.
This was a big, meaty, classic early 80s disco jam that appeared on a 12' only, featuring a long instrumental dub version on the B-side.
New York's JKriv takes elements of the vocal and dub and reworks them into a condensed dancefloor winner.
Adaye were a Heads studio outfit featuring Tom Dollar on vocals,
and selected here is their typically 1980s track Turn it Up' which
saw some success in the charts. The Manyane cut Thabong' fuses traditional Sotho music with electronics, synths and drum machines - a popular style at the time.
Sofrito's Frankie Francis gives both the Adaye and Manyane tracks the cut-up treatment focussing heavily on the spaced-out weirdness of the dub versions but adding nothing other than a fine ear for an edit.
To complete the set we include Picnic', another in-demand track
from the Heads archives that was originally the flip side to the track Picnicing' (featured on Gumba Fire) by the mostly instrumental studio outfit Starlight. They recorded one album and a series of 12s that included classic covers of American and Italian disco cuts.

Mysterious Works return with a superb VA following the success of EP's from Krewcial & Jank earlier this year. The imprints attention to high-quality basement cuts is ever prominent, with a number of underground kingpins bringing the artistic vision throughout the EP.
Kicking off proceedings is underground heavyweight, Chicago Damn, who's 'Uncle Bob' provides an exquisite, low slung, downtempo slab of boogie fusion. Osaka's Kousuke Koga (aka Jank) makes his second appearance on the label, this time teaming up with Preston's finest Simba for a deep, brooding, soul-laden number, mysteriously entitled NLA. On the flip side, label co-owner Jonna steps up the intensity with a no-nonsense, loop-laden workout while fellow co-owner Darran P provide's an infectious rework of a lesser known 80s classic! Keeping the momentum going is Iceland's Intr0beatz who's track 'Start To Make Sense' is a huge club friendly cut already a favorite with the like's of BBC Radio 1's Artwork.

Two years after the electro-soca sensation that became of Carl & Carol Jacobs' Robot Jam, the duo return to Emotional Rescue with a reissue of the follow up in Yonge Street Jam Band. An update of Robot Jam's music and riddim in a true Caribbean sense, Yonge Street is a freestyle remix and comes in the original's Parts 1 & 2, plus a special Discomix by rising tape manipulator, Jonny 5. Following Robot Jam on Crosby Records, the Jacobs' husband and wife team released a series of soca 12"s for Eddy Grant's Ice Records in the following years. However, come 1988 and they decided to return to the electro flavours that had garnered considerable interest, reworking the Robot Jam tapes to create a new version for release on Straker's Records in Brooklyn. Running for over 30 years from the early 70s to late 90s, Granville Straker's label was a cornerstone of the soca scene releasing main stays, reggae stars and what have become highly sought rarities such as Yonge Street and The Rebles' Sweetest Taboo. In Yonge Street again the cut-up samples are there, topped with a fresh bass line and Carl's own rap attack. While Part 1 acts as straight up vocal version, Part 2 swerves towards scat-megamix stylings that work in their own right. However, as with the "Disco Giant" series of 2015, this one-off return hands the tapes over for a modern reinterpretation. With acclaimed releases for Bahnsteig 23 and Power Cuts, plus an upcoming EP for Pleasure Wave, Jonny 5 has finally made the leap from respected CBS Forum oracle, DJ and collector with a penchant from dub to obscuro European cold wave and post punk oddities to finally sit in the producer's chair. After sending the label a personal mix made for his own use, he was hauled in to the studio to officially cut, mix, arrange and dub a long-form Discomix in the truest sense that perfectly creates a dance floor retake that might well be heard from boat parties off the Dalmatian cost to the open air street parties of Sao Paulo and all over festivals across the green fields of Europe.

There is a long-standing love affair between DJ Harvey and Pikes, Ibiza. As well as coming back for his third consecutive 'Mercury Rising' residency, the legendary 'DJs' DJ has been appointed 'Cultural Attaché' for Pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at Pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, Pikes Records.
In 2015 DJ Harvey made his hugely anticipated return to Ibiza and made Pikes his home for his Mercury Rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real Ibiza, the incredible history of Pikes and a genuine love for music. The love, the dancing, the music and the Balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by DJ Harvey has seen Mercury Rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.
The next step in the Harvey and Pikes story sees him launch Pikes Records - the first record label founded by Pikes owners and Ibiza Rocks Co-Founders Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle. On the label, Harvey explains: I see so many avenues to work together to release music, everything from live recordings from Ibiza Rocks and Pikes, mix tapes, original productions, showcasing new artists, there's all sorts of avenues to open up.'
With the finer details still under wraps, it's safe to say fans can look forward to the first release being Harvey's very own Mercury Rising compilation. But what can we expect from the third instalment of Mercury Rising Putting it quite simply, Just a serious good time really' says Harvey.
The Sound Of Mercury Rising will be released September 1st on Pikes Records and DJ Harvey and his infamous all night long sets return for Mercury Rising from Monday 7th August to 25th September at Pikes Hotel.

COLLECTING ORDERS FOR A REPRESS
Amsterdam dwelling editor par excellence Em Vee took the solo reigns on the inaugural Lumberjacks In Hell - and truly excelled with a great reimagination of "Miss You". The second release on the label sees the German share duties with Spanish edit demon Rayko, with the Rare Wiri boss hogging the A Side. First up is an expert rearrangement of Candi Staton's cover of the Bee Gee's standard "Nights On Broadway" which strips the track of its orchestral leanings to focus on the groove! Following this is a meaty take on a classic, with Barbara Keith's cover of "All Along The Watchtower" reinforced with some bottom end bump. Em Vee spreads a special disco version of Alma Lee's late 70s Philly delight "Gimme Your Love" with an extended intro that fully displays his edit talents.
