Desertshore is Nico's third solo album, recorded and released in 1970. It was co-produced by John Cale and Joe Boyd. Like its predecessor The Marble Index, it is an avant-garde album with chamber music elements. The back and front covers feature stills from the film La cicatrice interieure by Philippe Garrel, which starred Nico, Garrel and her son Ari Boulogne. A few of the songs from the album were included on the soundtrack of the film.

This is one of Nina Simone’s best albums in a long time. She’s taken a flock of Duke Ellington tunes, some familiar and some not-so-familiar, and handed them interesting and intriguing renditions in her own special style. The album’s a bit straighter than later efforts, with large backings by Stu Phillips that also feature vocals by the Malcolm Dodds Singers. The result is a masterpiece, proof that even in her early years, Nina could completely transform anything she laid her hands on, and unlock a soulful depth that even the original recordings might have missed. Titles include “I Got It Bad”, “Solitude”, “The Gal From Joe’s”, “It Don’t Mean A Thing”, and “I Like The Sunrise”.

Reverie is the first full-length collaboration between Ori Kaplan and Lihu Melamed - a cinematic, soul-soaked LP that drifts between modal jazz, cinematic scores and psychedelic rock, released on Batov Records.
Saxophonist and producer Ori Kaplan is best known as a founding member of Balkan Beat Box, for his work with Gogol Bordello and more recently, Shotnez, while Melamed brings a deep studio craft honed over years as an engineer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Together, they create a record that feels both ancient and immediate: music that evokes old biblical films, sun-bleached Western soundtracks and 70s jazz explorations, while remaining playful, spontaneous and deeply human.

There’s a strong cinematic undercurrent throughout Reverie. Think Charles Heston wandering through an Old Testament epic; Ennio Morricone soundtracking a desert horizon; Nino Rota scoring Fellini’s Rome; or Pasolini filming in Ethiopia. Minor-key strings, modal structures and unhurried grooves sit alongside echoes of Mingus and Yusef Lateef, with Ori’s baritone sax and flutes guiding the listener through shifting scenes and moods.

Lifeforce is the 1985 sci-fi horror cult film directed by Tobe Hooper, responsible for the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Based on Colin Wilson's 1976 novel The Space Vampires, the film is about the remnants of a race of intergalactic vampires who are brought to London, where they soon begin to infect its population.

Legendary composer Henry Mancini has soundtracked this apocalyptic descent into chaos. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in film history exemplified by his impressive trophy wall: he won four Oscars, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He is most famous for "Moon River" performed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and of course The Pink Panther.

James Horner was first asked to compose the score, but Mancini was brought in instead and crafted a piece of music both bombastic and ambient (and sometimes even atonal), employing the London Symphony Orchestra. Sit back and feel the fear...

Something Very Bad is Going to Happen is a brand new 2026 Netflix horror series produced by the Duffer Brothers, the creative minds behind the global hit Stranger Things. Overlook makes his debut on Metalheadz with the 'Shadow Of A Doubt EP', shaped by a long-standing appreciation for the classic Headz sound as well as the wider language of 90s drum and bass.

The EP places emphasis on depth, detail and atmosphere, moving beyond purely functional club tracks in favour of something more immersive with each piece unfolding with a sense of progression, rewarding attention over time. A fiery blend of cinematic soul, psychedelia, and Afrobeat exploring the in-betweens of identity, music, and culture in the 21st century—Owelu Dreamhouse’s debut LP is a deeply orchestrated journey through memory and imagination, led by ex-Saskwatch bandmates Nkechi Anele and Nic Ryan-Glenie, and produced by Henry Jenkins (Surprise Chef).
The band's namesake is a play on Nkechi’s grandmother's village—Owaelu—in Nigeria. Growing up as a woman of color in a predominantly white Australia, Nkechi had fear and hesitation around expressing her Africanness and Nigerianess, and this album is about her journey. Both archival and contemporary, the album’s DNA is laced with musical and historic references as well as a cohesive vision of the present.

Die Musik von Panda Bear und Sonic Boom war schon immer ein Spielplatz: ein Ort, an dem Klangexperimente, Loops und unerwartete Ideen aufeinandertreffen. Während Sonic Boom einst mit Spacemen 3 die Balance zwischen Drone und Pop neu dachte und später mit modularen Synths experimentierte, erschafft Panda Bear, solo oder mit Animal Collective, schillernde Klangwelten zwischen Noise, Folk und Elektronik. Ihr gemeinsames Debüt Reset (2022) wirkte wie ein kreativer Befreiungsschlag im Pandemie-Nebel.

Mit A ? of WHEN setzen sie diese Spielfreude fort, gehen aber noch weiter. Harfen-Loops, Steel Drums, Pedal Steel, sogar Jodeln: Das Duo greift bewusst auf vermeintlich „uncooles“ Material zurück und macht daraus etwas Eigenes. Songs wie „Something Like Dreaming“ oder „Like a Moth to a Flame“ verbinden verspielte Psychedelik mit eingängigen Melodien, als würde man von Station zu Station durch einen musikalischen Abenteuerspielplatz springen.

Gleichzeitig wird der Ton ernster. Die zehn Stücke verhandeln digitale Erschöpfung, politische Verwerfungen und ökologische Fragen, ohne dabei die Leichtigkeit zu verlieren. Inspiriert von einer Welt aus „AI slop“, algorithmischem Dauerrauschen und permanenter Vernetzung, suchen Panda Bear und Sonic Boom bewusst nach anderen Formen der Verbindung: weniger Scrollen, mehr echtes Erleben, mehr Radio, Live-Shows, Listening-Partys und reale Begegnungen. Statt Zynismus setzen sie auf Empathie, Glück und gegenseitige Unterstützung.

Im Kern bleibt das Album jedoch ein Akt der Aneignung: Klänge aus unterschiedlichen Kontexten werden neu zusammengesetzt, getragen von ungewöhnlicher Percussion wie Harfe und Steel Drums. So entsteht Musik, die zugleich verspielt und reflektiert ist. A ? of WHEN blickt auf eine widersprüchliche Welt und verwandelt sie in etwas Verbindendes. Kein großes Heilsversprechen, sondern die Einladung, gemeinsam offline darin aufzugehen.

Konsequenterweise wird das Album nicht auf Streaming-Plattformen verfügbar sein: Panda Bear und Sonic Boom setzen stattdessen auf reale Begegnungen, Listening Sessions und direkten Austausch jenseits algorithmischer Dauerbeschallung.

After its first release in 2023, the tiny big band Parasite Jazz brings its public iterations to fruition with “♫”, a testament to an alternate reality, matured voyaging across France over the span of four seasons.



It sees the music flee through exuberant forests and steep troglodytes ; a parallel genre movie with a soundtrack of diluvian rhythms, mocking chants, jazz noir and voodoo accidents. In this shifting, autonomous world, the elastic orchestra—whose members Radio Hito, Valentin Noiret, Kyle Knapp, and Hochiwah keep on appearing and disappearing—plays for nocturnal secrets and feverish cavalcades.

Parra for Cuva returns in 2026 with a new LP – Nacar – and world tour, marking the next step in his ongoing artistic evolution. Known for creating immersive electronic soundscapes that combine organic instruments with detailed, emotive production, he now extends his vision with a renewed visual language and live experience that deepen the connection between sound and space.

Paul Anka (born 1941) was one of pop music’s brightest early stars, celebrated for his smooth voice, heartfelt songwriting, and teen idol charisma. "Monkey Mind" ist das neue Album des französisch-amerikanischen Duos Pearl & The Oysters, produziert von Jonathan Rado (Foxygen, Weyes Blood, Miley Cyrus, Father John Misty, The Lemon Twigs). Obwohl es vordergründig fröhlich und leicht wirkt, entstand das Album nach den verheerenden Waldbränden in Los Angeles im Jahr 2025 und Trumps zweiter Amtseinführung. Der Titel "Monkey Mind" ist dem buddhistischen Konzept eines ruhelosen, sich wiederholenden Bewusstseins entlehnt - das Duo nutzte seine eigenen "unruhigen Gedanken", um das Album innerhalb weniger Wochen zu schreiben und seine Sorgen durch Musik zu verarbeiten. Das Album markiert eine Abkehr vom leicht kitschigen Weltraum-Sound von Planet Pearl hin zu einem wärmeren, organischeren Klang, der vom Softrock der 70er Jahre (Todd Rundgren, The Beach Boys, Steely Dan) beeinflusst ist und Anklänge an City Pop und Exotica aufweist. Nachdem P&TO jahrelang ihre eigenen komplexen, im Homeoffice aufgenommenen Klangwelten erschaffen hatten, arbeiteten sie nun mit Produzent, Solokünstler und Foxygen Jonathan Rado zusammen und nahmen direkt auf Band mit minimalen Overdubs auf. Dabei kooperierten sie mit ihren Musikerfreunden aus Los Angeles. Das Ergebnis ist lockerer und stärker im Hier und Jetzt verankert als alles, was sie zuvor gemacht haben. Penguin Cafe was founded by Arthur Jeffes in 2009, bringing together a talented and disparate group of musicians initially to perform his father Simon Jeffes’ legacy of world-renowned Penguin Cafe Orchestra music, ten years after his untimely death in 1997. Following the release of A Matter of Life shortly after founding, The Red Book was released in 2014 to critical and fan acclaim.

“The name The Red Book comes from the book by Karl Jung of the same name. The book is about, among other things, the way our subconscious interacts with and intrudes into our daily lives. I thought this fitted what we were trying to achieve with the second album quite neatly — namely, exploring musical worlds that are at once both familiar and strange. There is another meaning which is that the main mastered disc you end up with, the one from which all other copies will be made, is called the Red Book Master — so somewhere at some point there will be a disc on which will be written “The Red Book — Red Book Master.”

The tracks on the album all fall on some point along a scale going from gently Apollonian at the one end to perhaps a bit more Dionysian at the other. For our purposes this would be the ‘spacey’ end — with tunes like 1420 and Aurora, and the ‘imaginary folk’ end — with tracks like Odeon, Radio Bemba and Black Hibiscus. The tracks between these extremes are, perhaps with Silent Sun in particular, an attempt to blend these two parts.”

Das Album erscheint als Doppel-LP auf schwarzem Vinyl, als Doppel-LP auf klarem Vinyl sowie als Doppel-CD. Außerdem wird diese Veröffentlichung damit zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf Vinyl gepresst. Complete B Sides versammelt alle B-Seiten aus der klassischen 4AD-Ära der Band und enthält einige der besten "anderen" Songs der Pixies, darunter "Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)", "Into The White" und "The Thing". Ursprünglich 2001 auf CD veröffentlicht, als sich die Band bereits seit fast einem Jahrzehnt in einer Pause befand, enthielt Complete B Sides: 1988-97 alle 19 Nicht-Single-Tracks aus der unglaublichen Reihe von Singles, die die Band zwischen 1988 und 1991 veröffentlichte. Zum Abschluss wurde die instrumentale Version von "Letter to Memphis" hinzugefügt, die zuvor nur auf der US-Version der Veröffentlichung der Alec Eiffel-Maxi-Single erschienen war. Da auf vier Vinylseiten Platz für mehr Musik vorhanden ist, enthält diese aktualisierte Version zusätzlich sechs Live-Tracks, die aus späteren Pixies-Veröffentlichungen stammen, darunter aus der 1997 erschienenen Neuauflage von Debaser. Für diese aktualisierte Edition wurden alle Titel von ihren ursprünglichen analogen Bändern von Kevin Vanbergen neu remastert. Das Ergebnis klingt erstaunlich frisch und vervollständigt zugleich seine umfangreiche Arbeit am gesamten Katalog der Band. Diese neue Vinyl-Edition fungiert außerdem als Begleitstück zur kürzlich erschienenen Compilation Live at the BBC. Designer Chris Bigg (v23) hat dafür ein eindrucksvolles neues Artwork geschaffen und dabei Fotos aus dem Archiv von Simon Larbalestier verwendet, die ursprünglich für die Pixies vorgesehen waren, später jedoch verworfen wurden. Beide arbeiteten seit vielen Jahren mit der Band zusammen und gestalteten beide Veröffentlichungen parallel, um an den verstorbenen visuellen Direktor der Band, Vaughan Oliver, zu erinnern und ihn zu ehren.

Where albums like Level Select and Dream Select explored imaginary game worlds, MOTORSLICE is the sound of a real one: a breakout indie game that has already made a huge impact online through viral gameplay clips and a growing community of players.
