"Content" is the 9th album of the US based producer Ricardo Donoso.

Terry Waite was taken hostage in Beirut in the late 1980s, before ISIS, before smartphones, before the Internet as we know it. He endured a mock execution during the first year of his five-year captivity, which was spent mostly in solitary confinement. Years later, during a Q&A session, he was asked to identify the main thing he had learned from his ordeal. The answer, came as a shock—it was not the excruciatingly hard-won appreciation for life and loved ones that one expects to hear. “Contemporary humanity,” declared Waite, “has lost the ability to engage in productive solitude.”

‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ is the brand-new LP forthcoming from SCAR, a duo who’ve spent years dominating the waters of dance music with their formulae of underground, yet accessible drum & bass. Individually and as part of their SCAR project, both Script and Survival have been involved in shaping the genre for decades, helping to sculpt its formative years alongside a range of imprints that have ensured it longevity. For their forthcoming album they’ve once again been welcomed into the fold of Metalheadz, where SCAR have now been exclusively signed after appearing in their catalogue as one of its main staples. Since their first piece of music together, ‘When’, debuted on Metalheadz via the label’s esteemed ‘Platinum Breakz’ series, through to their first SCAR artist LP ‘The Orkyd Project’ in 2016, the pair’s journey has followed the label’s growth and they’ve continued to be supported by its founder Goldie. On first listen to ‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ it’s instantly clear why they were made such an essential part of such a revered platform, bringing together the historic elements as well as the modern production levels which have enabled them to remain trend setters over the years.

From the sounds of ‘Circle of Trust’, right through to the finely-tuned vocals of Eleanor Higgins on ‘Eternal’, the tastes catered to throughout ‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ demonstrates why SCAR have been welcomed into the roster of Metalheadz and it’s not just down to their heritage with the imprint. Tracks like ‘State of Delusion’, ‘Stolen Memories’, ‘Can’t Do Anything With It’ and ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ show how SCAR still bridge the gap between contemporary standards and an understanding of their roots, as well as how this has influenced their current direction. Coming up next, ‘Funk Control’ injects much needed soul into the drum & bass sphere whilst tracks like ‘First Sound’, ‘The Seeker’, ‘Thinking out Loud’ and ‘Pauline’ continue the journey of breaks and immersive soundscapes. The album’s title-record ‘High Fives and Devil Eyes’ encompasses the album’s rawness whilst cuts like ‘Deep South’ and ‘Torn Apart’ pedestals the diversity demonstrated throughout. Even the LP’s interlude ‘Nomad’ travels the listener through an elaborate composition, and you’re left understanding that ‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ is a listening album too, despite how well it’ll translate within any club setting.

‘High Fives & Devil Eyes’ doesn’t just signpost another huge step forward for SCAR musically, but also for Metalheadz. They’ve added two more members to their pivotal roster and it’s another album to highlight the label’s consistency, something which has pushed forward from their beginnings in 1994.

Schmeichel - Mna, Focus & NoBreakfast

'Schmeichel' is back on Defrostatica with new tales from the 160 bpm footwork continent. Again he demostrates a deep understanding of the unity of body, mind and soul.

He's a beatsmith and electronic music producer from 'Leipzig' - his puzzling artist pseudonym (to schmooze someone) is nothing but purposely deceptive. In the last six years he was busy making and releasing music which never sounded quite like the same as before.
His diverse musical flex in abstract hip hop, drum and bass, broken beats, techno, acid and ragga too shows his ability to sweep away genre-expectations.
He is committed to fuse every style into an immediate but ever-exciting minimal music experience. As a dj he switches virtuosic between jazzy improvisation, stokey UK-rap, dark and spiritual dance redemption. Nothing really much beside his work is known about Schmeichel since he is not playing the social media game that much which forces attendes of his performance to listen and enjoy without any distraction.

... When he turns on the amp in his basement studio underneath one of Leipzig's record stores he leaves mundane matters behind. 'Schmeichel' loves being in the zone when he is exploring new sound territories - like a sculptor he carves out a vision of soul with a minimalistic blues vibe that is looking for an essence rather a presence.

While the title of his five track EP "Mana, Focus & NoBreakfast" sounds like a work spec it deflects humbly from the musical richness of his second release on Defrostatica. Once again, the whole is more than the sum of its parts: he is telling different stories in each track that belong to one carefully composed saga.

"Feel" in its intensity resembles the soundtrack of a remake of Scenes from a Marriage. "Sting" could be the melancholic story of a hip hop writer about his most epic stunt. Another hip hop reference and artist wisdom drops in "Judge Mee" almost prayerlike.
The b-side of the record opens with "G i o i", a powerful mantra of an unknown procession. "Yin Yang" marks the outerworldly coda to this EP as a soothing salvation.

Futureboogie unearth more dancefloor magic with next signing The White Lamp and their first single 'It's You' - a perfect rendering of electronic soul for 2012. Working Men's Club - Teeth (Anthony Naples Remix)

Working Men's Club announce a small run of remix 12”s, comprising of the brand new Anthony Naples remix and instrumental which will be released on November 15th' and placed in a limited Heavenly house bag. This comes after a previous reworking of the track by Factory Floor’s Gabe Gurnsey.

Heavenly’s Jeff Barrett says:

Yutie Lee - Flower Protocol 3x12"

Part I (Disc 1)

The Taiwanese artist Yutie Lee covers six Chinese folk songs about Flowers.
Tuberosa, Rose, Jasmine, Plum Blossom, Orchids & Chamomile all are odes to the beauty of the plant. The flower also being a metaphor for something we are desperately longing for, but can never quite get. However you may want to interpret the songs, they are all telling a story of something pure and indestructible. In the end nature will prevail?
Romantic thoughts created in a time long before the current state of the world.
By artificially mutating her voice, Yutie Lee successfully manages to transfer the songs into 2020s arguably much more complex, dystopian reality. She does this not without a bow to the past, prevailing something of the original songs sweet essence, even adding a layer of humour… in the end leaving the listener with a feeling of good hope.

To complete the package Yutie Lee’s versions have been remixed by, Alva Noto, Bell Towers, Laura Groves, Oceanic and Suzanne Kraft.

The turntable’s tonearm waves and indicates the West direction, as if it wanted to tear and
take off for Brazil? It’s alright; it's just playing Nação África, new single by Camarão
Orkestra, the most Brazilian of Parisian bands.
Sinewy bass and battery pulsating, it’s stitched to the dancefloor that "Nação África" spreads
its groove. And it's with a variety of keyboards and synthesizers that the tight production
maintains a level of constant motion, surrounded by the burning riffs of the brass section and
Amanda Roldand's refreshing vocals.
Anywhere close to a good record, you’d usually find Patchworks hanging around. He
satiates here his compulsive remix addiction, first by loosening the pressure of the bass,
giving us more fresh air, and covering the mix with airy synth patches. Then with a dub
version where he puts vocals and instruments inside echo chambers and effects corridors of
different scales. The bass becomes rubbery, the beat is robotized and, slowly, an electro
vibes seizes the title.
Nação África announces the return of Camarão Orkestra in the crates, just an appetizer
before a new album… Or two…

Submorphics - Kodak Dreams

Cult favourite Submorphics delivers his long awaited debut album “Kodak Dreams” on Amsterdam imprint The North Quarter. 15 year veteran producer Greg Axelrad has been one of America's premiere exports when it comes to Soulful Drum & Bass. His unmistakable 'smoked-out' take on the genre has made him a fan favourite for years. After his The North Quarter debut “Detroit Haze” early 2018, he now returns with his most ambitious project yet: “Kodak Dreams”. Written during a time of great personal highs and lows, his debut album is easily his most personal body of work. The Michigan native drew inspiration from his transatlantic journey and childhood memories to paint this musical memoir.

'Inspired by the treasure-trove of nostalgia I brought with me from Detroit, I plugged away at my own brand of D&B, hip-hop and neo-soul music in my new studio in the city of The Hague.' Submorphics explains. 'Cherished childhood photos reminded me of my roots: funky breakbeats and lush soul samples that I blasted out of my cheap boombox long before I knew what a sampler was. These old photos ended up deeply inspiring the album sessions, and even started permeating my dreams as I slept each night.”

A multi-genre piece that features vocals from frequent collaborators Big Brooklyn Red, SelfSays, T.R.A.C. and Christina Tamayo, brings together Soulful Drum & Bass and LA / Detroit flavoured Beats with an easy elegance. The album offers a glimpse into Submorphics' past, present and future and is brought together by snippet-sized, Polaroid-inspired narration, his personal Kodak Dreams.

Atlas - Solitude Ep

Keysound Recordings are proud to present the debut EP from up and coming talent, Atlas. A Brighton contemporary of Keysound family member Etch, Atlas' EP stretches the boundaries of the label's rollage aesthetic, weightless synth experimentation and established sub heavy paradigms to near breaking point. The EP's title track, Solitude,' has been a set opener for Keysound founders Dusk + Blackdown for over 18 months, wiping the slate clean with smooth lines towards a distant horizon, a pensive melodic tension broken only by skeletal drum flickers and sub gravity. Rewarding those who wait, it builds through layers of abstraction over four minutes towards a massive emotional apex. On the cusp' explores similar themes, using fragments of wistful dialog interwoven with skeletal drums that seem to suggest the photographic negative of a percussive floor filler: an X-ray of a now expired club banger. The EP concludes with Alone in a timespan', yet further taking the form & function to near collapse. Finally, it pulls back, returning to more familiar club dynamics with with the dubby, bass-heavy rollage of Calm'.

Comit - Remote Viewing

James Clements (ASC) debuts his first full-length album under his Comit alias, titled Remote Viewing.

Born out of his love for music that was often classed as 'IDM' during the mid-to-late 90's, and labels such as Morr Music, City Centre Offices, Merck and Hobby Industries, Comit is a new avenue for James that builds upon his background in drum & bass, his ambient projects for the likes of Silent Season and his admiration for a more nostalgic electronic sound.

It was this appreciation for early IDM that became the impetus for James' infamous Deep Space mix series in the early 2000's and resulted in a brief output of inspired productions as both ASC and Intex Systems. But this sound never fully evolved until it became a devoted project. The first outing for the Comit alias came as a limited 7" on the Short Trips label in 2016 and is now finally presented in its realized form within Remote Viewing.

Broken, glitchy breakbeats weave amongst emotive and often melodic chord progressions, all stemming from James' expansive collection of analog synthesizers. It's a sound that feels distinct and very separate to James' music as ASC, whilst adding a new evolution to the genre we may have previously described as IDM.

DJ Haram is a producer & DJ who distinctively ties her New Jersey musical history with more recent involvement in the Philadelphia DIY noise scene, whilst paying homage to her Middle Eastern roots. A close affiliate of New York's Discwoman collective, she is also one half of 700 Bliss with rapper & poet Moor Mother, who features on this EP. Haram’s non-traditional understanding of Islam, paired with a nuanced perspective on folk tradition and mythology, underpins the EP, bringing fantasy and colour to this in-between place. On opener ‘No Idol’, a darbuka rhythm pairs with offbeat claps around a dark synth and a contrasting airy flute melody, illustrating the theme of duality running through the music. The melodies of ‘No Idol’ are revisited in the final track remix, sped up with a classic Baltimore club beat and energetic bedsprings samples.‘Interlude’ is a combination of the sounds and patterns from each song. ‘Gemini Rising's synth is reminiscent of John Carpenter, paired with a darbuka rhythm and war drums that transmit a religious sci -fi horror aesthetic. ‘Body Count’ is propelled by Jersey Club kicks with a distorted drum crunch and ticking rim shot in triplets, and an ethereal melody. ‘Grace (K.O.D.)’ has menacing cinematic stabs that feel like acid raining on the scattered percussion. On the 700 Bliss track ‘Candle Light’, Moor Mother's distorted and doubled up vocal chorus evokes a frantic yet solemn energy as she speaks on themes of life and death.‘Grace’ is an EP constructed through deep feeling, transmitting vital dancefloor energy. It’s music is versatile, imbued with a strong will, personality, and colour.

KINGS OF THE ROLLERS - THE MAIN EVENT

Drum & Bass heavyweights Serum, Voltage- and Bladerunner, aka Kings Of The Rollers have entered the ring once again to deliver a
4-track smasher. Pushing the boundaries of D+B to the ropes, ‘The Main Event’ EP is a flawless infusion of each individual style, creating the perfect storm.

Rounding off the EP is ‘Solar Heat’, nostalgic arpeggios rest upon trance inducing pads before modulated reeses and rolling drums kick in to deliver a finishing blow.

On top of cooking up lay out anthems, Kings Of The Rollers are renowned for their high energy sets and innovative mixing styles.

The trio have headlined an array of festivals and large scale shows across the globe, including their own Royal Rumble event series. ‘The Main Event’ EP was originally destined to accompany their biggest headline show to date at London’s legendary venue Printworks. Sadly due to the 2020 COVID-19 crisis this event was postponed, but you won’t catch these guys throwing in the towel…

Novacom / Jk Flesh / Le Syndicat - A Disseminated Darkness On Inner Personality Status Ep

Industrial. Bitter. Techno. Raw. Profane. All words connected with the ravaged sound of Contort Yourself. And you'll be happy to know the latest offering continues down that twisted path. Bulldozing into being, Novacom arrives into this world with the bellowing bass and distorted dirge of 'Outsiders'. Downwards Records derelict JK Flesh (a.k.a. Justin Broadrick of Napalm Death/Godflesh/Techno Animal) keeps the beats boiling, drums and synths dipped in detritus and distortion. The flip is dedicated to French brutalist act Le Syndicat. The grunting, shunting 'Maximalist' from 1993 roars static and synthesizer strychnine scratch and burn before the bent and buckled 80s 'Prothesis Pack Xtra 08'. Ekman (Panzerkreuz/Berceuse Heroique) is on hand to close. 303 jumper cables are applied to 'Maximalist', pound and squawk pouring salt into speaker wounds.

Olga Wojciechowska - Infinite Distances (Limited Red Vinyl 12")

Initially put together in memory of a family member, Olga Wojciechowska's new album, 'Infinite Distances' is built around a similar sounding melody that appears across the backbone of the album - the sign of something that won't let go. Opening with 'Images Imprisoned Within You', the beautiful orchestral piece sets the tone for a potentially optimistic journey. But the album, with its changes in direction and varying emotion portrayed throughout the seven tracks, somehow always ends up at the same place. It was a memory Olga couldn't shake.

Told through several different approaches, varying from expansive modern-classical pieces, to more experimental and electronic touches in tracks like 'Memory Of The Pioneers' and 'Starless Water'; 'Infinite Distances' is a personal recollection that spans the emotions surrounding the feelings of loss; the highs, the lows, the polaroid-like happy memories, the ones that you never want to let go, and those that will never quite fade away.

In contrast to the inspiration behind the album, the artwork from Marco Vannini brings a vivid and subjective aspect to the release, whilst maintaining the idea of fragmented and juxtaposing memories together in one place.

As a true multi-instrumentalist, Olga has produced as Strie, for Serein with 'Perpetual Journey' (2018) and previously as her true name Olga Wojciechowska for the likes of Time Released Sound. Olga has also produced alongside Erik Skodvin on Sonic Pieces, collaborated with Greg Haines and reworked Nathan Fake on Ninja Tune. Olga can also be heard in the more contemporary space with commissions by Oslo Opera House and the Royal Opera House.

Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music.

The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. RAGE was a different beast, it certainly channelled some of that Acid energy but pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

RAGE is approaching it's 30th anniversary. It's sonic and cultural legacy is still being felt today, Fabio & Groove are still shutting down raves and festivals every weekend all over the world with their superior DJ sets and musical knowledge guided by their pioneering spirit. This musical selection you hold in your hands, the first of 4 parts, sees them delve into their prodigious memories and record boxes to select a true musical representation of the very beginning of one of the UK's most unique and influential musical movements of the last 50 years. I Break Horses - Warnings

If I Break Horses’s third album holds you in its grip like a great film, it’s no coincidence. Faced with making the follow-up to 2014’s plush ‘Chiaroscuro’, Horses’s Maria Lindén decided to take the time to make something different, with an emphasis on instrumental, cinematic music. As she watched a collection of favourite films on her computer (sound muted) and made her own soundtrack sketches, these sonic workouts gradually evolved into something more: “It wasn’t until I felt an urge to add vocals and lyrics,” says Lindén, “that I realized I was making a new I Break Horses album”.
That album is ‘Warnings’, an intimate and sublimely expansive return that, as its recording suggests, sets its own pace with the intuitive power of a much-loved movie. And, as its title suggests, its sumptuous sound worlds – dreamy mellotrons, haunting loops, analogue synths – and layered lyrics crackle with immersive dramatic tensions on many levels. “It’s not a political album,” says Lindén, “though it relates to the alarmist times we live in. Each song is a subtle warning of something not being quite right”.
The pay-off for her long-haul immersion is clear from statement-of-intent album opener ‘Turn’, a waltzing kiss-off to an ex swathed in swirling synths over nine emotive minutes. On ‘Silence’, Lindén suggests deeper sorrows in the interplay of serene surface synths, hypnotic loops and elemental images: when she sings “I feel a shiver,” you feel it, too.
Elsewhere, on three instrumental interludes, Lindén’s intent to experiment with sound and structure is clear. Meanwhile, there are art-pop songs here more lush than any she has made. ‘I’ll Be the Death of You’ occupies a middle ground between Screamedlica and early OMD,
while ‘Neon Lights’ brings to mind Kraftwerk on Tron’s light grid.
‘I Live At Night’ slow-burns like a song made for night-time LA drives; ‘Baby You Have Travelled for Miles without Love in Your Eyes’ is an electronic lullaby spiked with troubling needle imagery. ‘Death Engine’’s dark-wave dream-pop provides an epic centrepiece, of sorts, before the vocoder hymnal of closer ‘Depression Tourist’ arrives like an epiphany, the clouds parting after a long, absorbing journey.
For Lindén, Warnings is a remarkable re-routing of a journey begun when I Break Horses’s debut album, ‘Hearts’ (2011), drew praise from Pitchfork, The Guardian, NME, The Independent and others for its luxurious grandeur and pulsing sense of art-pop life. With the electro-tangents of 2014’s ‘Chiaroscuro’, Lindén forged a new, more ambitious voice with total confidence. Along the way, I Break Horses toured with M83 and Sigur Rós.
A new friend on ‘Warnings’ is US producer/mixing engineer Chris Coady, whose graceful way with dense sound (credits include Beach House, TV on the Radio) was not the sole reason Lindén invited him to mix the album.
“Before reaching out to Chris I read an interview where he said, ‘I like to slow things down. Almost every time I love the sound of something slowed down by half, but sometimes 500% you can get interesting shapes and textures.’ And I just knew he’d be the right person for this
album.”
If making ‘Warnings’ was a slow process, so be it: that steady gestation was a price worth paying for its lavish accretions of detail and meaning, where secrets aplenty await listeners eager to immerse themselves. “Nowadays, the attention span equals nothing when it comes to how most people consume music,” Lindén says. “And it feels like songs are getting shorter, more ‘efficient’. I felt an urge to go against that and create an album journey from start to finish that takes time and patience to listen to. Like, slow the fuck down!”.

For 001, after some extensive DAT searching, we’re treated with two never-before released Krust cuts deep from the vaults, ‘Unit 23’ and ‘Pentacle’. Both are over 20 years old, and show perfectly two contrasting sides to Krust’s inimitable production style.
‘Unit 23’ is a hypnotic upbeat roller, with a steppy progressive vibe, this one builds and builds. ‘Pentacle’ sees Krust in tear out mode, with brooding atmospheres, lashing drums and some of that Bristol bass we all know and love!

Hailing from the musical melting pot of Bristol, Krust earned respect through countless releases on V Recordings, his imprint Full Cycle Records, his collective with Roni Size, Reprazent and a series of cutting edge solo albums on Talkin Loud.

Having been at the forefront of the D&B / Jungle scene since its inception he continues to innovate and push boundaries, with recent music coming on Doc Scott’s seminal 31 Records, and with a long awaited new album project on the horizon.

* The original sister label to Ram Records from the old Ram HQ studio in Essex, Liftin Spirit Records now celebrates its 25th year with a special ‘RELOADED’ limited vinyl series of remastered classics, alongside rare and previously unreleased tracks since the beginning in1992.

* DATs from artists such as Andy C, Ant Miles, Shimon, Joint Venture, Interrogator and Red One have been located in the archives. Also from the Ram & Liftin HQ came tracks for the Deep Seven label in 1993 and all these rare DAT masters have been located and now re-cut by Simon, the original Ram & Liftin vinyl masterer at ‘The Exchange’. Initially, Deep Seven remasters will present on a printed white label and unreleased tracks will have a black label.
* In 1993 Origin Unknown had their first full release on Ram Records. ‘Valley of the Shadows’ aka ‘Long Dark Tunnel - 31 seconds went on to anthem status, majorly contributing to the developing genre of Jungle/Drum and Bass.
After 'Valley of the Shadows' had caused shockwaves throughout the rave scene, Origin Unknown set about composing their follow up single.
With Ram and Liftin Spirit Records cementing their places in the history books, their original 1993 follow up had been put to one side while they completed many remix requests for the movers and shakers of the era and subsequently the DAT tape went astray.
Some 26 years later, while going through the archives, a DAT tape that was previously believed to be faulty actually played ok on a different machine! The tracks were finally found and sent straight to master for our ‘Reloaded’ series. 'Voyage to the Future' carries on that 1993 vibe of 'Valley of the Shadows' and will now be finally available to own on vinyl, backed with the equally sublime track 'Second Sight'.

L’Embrasse is a compilation originally released in 1987, less than 50 Copies were distributed at the time through local shops & it's a portrayal of a unique and very little known scene, generated in the deep underground milieu of Amsterdam.

"Aix" is an outstanding piece of work by Italian electro-acoustic savant Giuseppe Ielasi, originally released in 2009 on Taylor Deupree's 12k label, the follow-up to 2007’s "August" (12k) and Ielasi's first collaboration with Nicola Ratti as "Bellows", also out in 2007 (Kning Disk). Originally only released on CD (12k), the album got a very limited vinyl issue on Czech label Minority Records in 2010. Keplar presents this extraordinary and timeless collection of 9 evocative minimalist soundscapes on vinyl again after 10 years.

From the original press release in 2009:

"With Aix we see Ielasi building his layered, atmospheric music around rhythmic grids. Most of the time these are quite irregular and the pulses are not neccessarily stable or clear. Where his previous work approached sound in a linear fashion Aix imposes a strong vertical development with the aforementioned grid and a production consisting of ons and offs, employing as much improvisation as Ielasi’s previous work, but in a different way.
Despite the self-imposed grid structure, Aix relies heavily on randomization. Not in the traditional sense of sound placement but instead of the spatialization of sounds, echoes, reverbs and the stereo image. As a result, Aix has an amazing sense and clarity of space as the small fragments of sound breathe and find their own place in the mix, thanks to Ielasi’s sublime skills as a mixer and engineer.
Ielasi relied heavily on numerous short samples and combining them in ways that fell into his groove; some found from others' recordings and many more recorded during the past year. We hear fragments of percussive (acoustic) objects, drums, piano, trumpet, guitar, and, of course, synthetic textures. Although there is a distinct rhythmic pulse to Aix, Ielasi manages to mold it into something wonderfully languid and warm... and strangely inviting."

People Places & Things is the single project of Manchester born & London based Mike Checuti. Mike grew listening to a heavy mixture of horror & film soundtracks an equal dose of the early electro via the legendary Spin Inn records & then the hedonistic sounds of The Hacienda & the more underground Thunderdome nightclub.

Mike was encouraged to press ahead with the project after a visit to Los Angeles & spending time in the studio with Atticus Ross (Gone Girl & The Social Network soundtrack composer).

Treating Patient A is the first in a trilogy of releases by People Places & Things each pulling from the above mentioned influences but each EP having it's own variation whilst keeping the references points clearly audible along with People Places & Things own take of these sounds at the forefront.

People Places & Things along with Gabe Guernsey of Factory Floor have recently just composed the soundtrack for the latest film for the forthcoming Adidas Spezial range which commemorates 30 years of Acid house.

Artwork for each 12" is designed by Andrew Jackson & each sleeve is individually hand printed thus having its own unique imprint and limited to only 200 copies.

By now you must be already familiar with Qual being the solo project of William Maybelline, one half of the Lebanon Hanover duo.When William first stepped into the scene as an individual artist back in 2014, he declared the intention to explore the very grimmest areas in synth-based music. While Sable debut LP was unapologetically gothic in subject matter and sound, Qual's most recent and uncompromising outputs of Cupio Dissolvi EP and last year's album The Ultimate Climax merge the despairingly freezing properties of 90s EBM with the more aggressive sensibilities of industrial techno without ever diluting the intensity of either. Brand new 4-track EP Cyber Care is the perfect synthesis of both these aspects. On A side the slither of the title-track and the mechanical assault of Inject Your Mind will make you feel the hardest, most vicious side of Maybelline's creation. B side's I Have To Return Some Video Tapes and Motherblood will toss you into a ice-cold galaxy of paranoia and disorientation.

This is not an appealing world, as Qual is impossible to listen to half-heartedly - it will drag you by the jaw and butcher you in a dirty alleyway.

Mothball Record in association with Bordello A Parigi is proud to present one of the strangest and most mysterious recordings from the whole Italo-Disco era. Sitting somewhere between goth, italo and new wave, “Space Melody” is a dedication to ancient Egypt and outer space.
The original EP was almost totally lost to the sands of time, until recently the original mastertape was unearthed by the artist and later painstakingly transferred by Rude 66.

The record is completed by new instrumental versions from the Danish Italo king Flemming Dalum and the Spanish italo duo Futuro.

Tilman Robinson’s third album, CULTURECIDE, is an investigation of the anthropocene; a seven part lamentation for our chaotic world.

Tilman Robinson is an Australian composer and sound designer creating electro-acoustic music across a range of genres including classical minimalism, improvised, experimental, electronic and ambient. Tilman’s diverse output focuses on the psychological impact of dense sound employing acousmatic and psychoacoustic principles. His third album CULTURECIDE will be released on Iceland’s Bedroom Community label in April 2020.

CULTURECIDE: “...processes that have usually been purposely introduced that result in the decline or demise of a culture, without necessarily resulting in the physical destruction of its bearers.” D Stein

CULTURECIDE is a rich sonic collage, harvesting sounds from a range sources including field recordings, medical machines that monitor the human body, traditional instruments and synthesisers, often melted electronically. The result is an unsettling paradox with sounds constantly on the edge of recognition. Each piece references a specific socio- political issue ranging from colonialism to neo-liberalism to climate change and the impending singularity of humans and machines. Far from an answer to these questions, CULTURECIDE invites us to meditate on their place in our life and approach personal understanding.

Recorded and produced almost completely in Australia, a land at the forefront of the devastation of climate change, CULTURECIDE was an attempt at catharsis for its author frequently appalled at his country’s incredible apathy and inaction. Mixed by Bedroom Community regular Daniel Rejmer and mastered by Lawrence English, works from the ambitious and unsettling record saw Tilman nominated for the 2019 Melbourne Prize for Music.

Various - Out of Practice Vol. 1

Standards & Practices returns after an extended hiatus with its first release for 2020 and the label's first-ever compilation. Showcasing six exclusive tracks from a variety of musically like-minded allies both new and established, "Out Of Practice Vol. 1" finds some of the most talented artists currently working in electronic music refining their sound and pushing their craft in exciting new directions.

Stave and Grebenstein's "Rack 4", their first collaboration since 2018's acclaimed "Live From Frankfurter Strasse", kicks off the proceedings with a view into a bleak, dystopian sonic landscape, while Italian producer VSK, known for his excellent EPs on Mord and 47 (among others) delivers "Pendulum", one of his best tracks to date - a visceral, unrelenting, broken-beat behemoth. Closing side A is Chicago native Todd Mattei 's contribution, "Lake Charles", a beautifully textured Frippian soundscape.

Kristian Jabs, better known to most as Pessimist, opens side B with "Rut", a sleek, stripped-down, techno track that positively drips with moody atmospherics and tension. Overlook and Karim Maas's contribution, the dense and claustrophobic "Chalk", is an ultra-heavy breaks track with hoovers and enough sub-bass to shatter blocks of granite. "7th Recording 29", an ambient piece which represents Jonathan Krohn's first recorded collaboration with long-time friend and associate Benjamin Mjolsness since their work together in the group Male - closes the compilation.

Various - Join The Future - UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91

The first release on Optimo Music founder JD Twitch’s new compilation-focused label Cease & Desist will be a collection of pioneering turn-of-the-90s British “Bleep & Bass” techno tracks curated by author and music journalist Matt Anniss.

Join The Future: UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91 is a partner product to Anniss’s critically acclaimed book on the foundations of British dance music’s ongoing love affair with sub-bass, Join The Future: Bleep Techno and the Birth of British Bass Music. The book, which was published by Velocity Press in December and features a foreword by JD Twitch, documents in vivid detail the previously untold story of the Yorkshire-pioneered style and the impact it had on the development of UK dance music.

The compilation is the first to focus on Bleep & Bass since the sound’s heyday in the late 1980s and early ’90s. It features a mix of historic cuts, period classics, overlooked gems and unreleased material. It was mastered for release by Warp Records co-founder and Forgemasters member Rob Gordon, a producer, remixer and studio engineer who arguably did more than anyone else to define the sub-heavy sound of the style.

Gordon also contributed a previously unheard version of Alfanso’s “Dub Feels Nice”, a near mythical track he produced in 1991 that has never received a proper commercial release. The cut has been a secret weapon for a handful of Sheffield DJs for almost 30 years, most notably Gordon’s fellow Forgemasters member Winston Hazel. Fittingly, the compilation also includes the original unreleased instrumental version of Tuff Little Unit’s Steel City classic “Join The Future”.

Many of the other tracks on the compilation are rare, hard to find or have not been issued on vinyl or digital since their initial release. It opens with Unique 3 and the Mad Musician’s “Only The Beginning” – the 1988 A-side of the first ever Bleep record – and also includes tracks and remixes from fellow scene pioneers Ital Rockers (an early alias of dub hero Iration Steppas), Nightmares on Wax, Cabaret Voltaire and DJ Martin and DJ Homes, the previously unheralded Chapeltown duo behind the influential Leeds-based studio and record label BASSIC.

Elsewhere on the compilation you’ll find Birmingham producer Demonik’s sought-after debut single “Layrinthe”, a hard-to-find cut from Bedford-based men of mystery Original Clique, two classic cuts from the vaults of influential Midlands label Network Records and a glassy-eyed slab of Bleep/deep house fusion from 100 Hz.

Join The Future: UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91 will be released on double vinyl and digital download. The 10-track vinyl version features an insert with extensive liner notes by Matt Anniss. It also comes with a code to download the 12-track digital download version. The compilation will be released by Cease & Desist on March 25th 2020.

First release of 2020 for Auxiliary comes in the form of a six-track EP of slower grooves by ASC. The emphasis is purely on analog synth sequences and drum machines. Cryogenic opens proceedings, with a heavy kick drum, backed with a weighty bass for maximum effect. Monomachine arpeggios are the order of the day here and are used to devastating effect. Following on is the laid back synth swells of Erosion Of Time, which leads into the more pronounced hits of Anthe, which tops off side A with a heavier crescendo. Meridian starts off the flip side in melancholic fashion, with it's half-time beats and pads that pluck at the heart strings. The final two excursions up the sci-fi notch a little, while ASC demonstrates his prowess with film score-like textures and sound design.

The next chapter for Haŵs actualises itself in the form of Dawl’s ‘Break It Down’ EP, a warehouse-ready, bouncy and charismatic record channelling insatiable vigour from beginning to end.

‘Break It Down’ on the A-side is a relentless jackhammer of a track, pumped full of rich breaks and clipped acid lines. ‘Subject 91’ flattens the gas pedal even further, with a gated, spectral synth levitating hazily above the militant drums that heave the whole track forward.

On the B-side, the brawny ‘Proton’ returns to the acidic burn of the opening track, except this one is occupied by chirping synths and oscillations of noise that seem to rise and fall with a trippy authority. Finally, high-flyer and man of the moment Kosh employs his natural gift of the gab on the closing remix of ‘Break It Down’ with a raucous rhythm and a regurgitated bassline that never dwindles on its own gusto.

Despite the substantial weight and pugnacity of this 4-tracker, the staple Haŵs euphoria twinkles through. There’s no shortage in complex drum sequencing, breaks samples and all the other frills, yet the final output is compact and neat. As Haŵs increases it's vision more extensively to dance music from across the board, it seems that the best things might at times come as contradictions, and this record’s tone certainly fits the bill.

Dominique Grimaud - 19 Feedbacks’

Dominique Grimaud makes you listen to the The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and many more artists from the 1960s, like you never hear before.

The title says it all: “19 Feedbacks”. French multi-instrumentalist and sound-experimentalist Dominique Grimaud dives into his adolescence and the 1960s, when he discovered music that he could identify with and that would stay with him for his whole life. But “19 Feedbacks” it’s not just about memories or music, it’s about feedback. The beginning of the use of feedback on pop and rock songs throughout that decade and beyond.

It helps – of course it helps – that Dominique feels and knows what he’s talking about. He lived those years. He knows the energy and the momentum and the historical breakthroughs that were made every time a rock band pushed the boundaries of commercial approval. He uses samples of feedbacks from that era and builds beautifully enigmatic sound-pieces around them.

Some of those samples/feedbacks will be very recognizable. It’s not worth telling because it will spoil the experience of listening and dive into “19 Feedbacks”. It’s better if the listener isn’t expecting them and enjoy the ways Dominique explores them and reintegrate them into modern experimental music.

Although it carries that experimental side, “19 Feedbacks” normally feels as a freeform library music. Tracks like “Out Of The Sand” and “Green And Blue” carry a beautiful ambiguity of handcrafted electronic sounds thought for an electronic library of sound, to be or not to be used for a movie, radio or television. While others, like “Soft Voice” or “18 Tides” dwell along the ambient spectrum.

Some tracks carry a more electronic momentum. Dominique adapts the “19 Feedbacks” to fit different styles and he wasn’t trapped in the gimmick side of working around such specific samples. It’s a brave new world of sound escapades and sonic ventures. You never thought you would hear the Beatles, Stones, Captain Beefheart or Pink Floyd sound like this.

Twelve years have passed since eedl released their masterpiece “Everse” spa.RK, 2007 and in that time the duo -formed by Miguel Ángel Martínez and Joan Duat- have shied away from the spotlight and stage. Despite this apparent lethargy, their previous two works - "Parallemped EP" spa.RK, 2003 and the aforementioned "Everse"- provided them with cult national scene status, while raising more than a few eyebrows among European “headz”. Both works continue to sound overwhelmingly modern and
undated, an obvious signal that eedl is a special breed of cutting edge electronic music.

Although creatively silent for a number of years they have remained musically active. As well as his career as a product designer, Miguel Ángel has applied his musical experience to the technology sector, and since 2016 has fully immersed himself in “modular”–Winter Modular, Plankton Electronics and Patching Panda–; Meanwhile, Joan, office programmer and classically trained pianist, has found his equilibrium with work and building a family life.

"Unstored" is their long awaited return to the fray and their second studio album. It is comprised of eight songs, some of which have been have been slow cooked since 2002, with others gestating more recently. Maybe such a long hiatus seems excessive, but the meticulousness nature and obsessive love for detail found in "Unstored" more than justifies the wait, which at times felt like a long goodbye.

This collection of songs navigates between perfectionist electronica, new generation electro, noisy harmonies, glitch and deconstructed rhythms; a sonic memoire with strong roots in British experimental electronic music -reminiscent of Autechre or Plaid-, another reason in understanding the longing produced by their extended absence.

It is therefore with great honour that in early January 2020, Lapsus will release the new album from the elusive eedl project in a luxury edition format.

Matthewdavid is a co-founder of the Los Angeles label Leaving Records, and a collaborator of Flying Lotus, Sun Araw, Julia Holter, Laraaji, Odd Nosdam, among others. Experimental Bliss is his first album on Umor Rex, two long pieces devoted to the bliss of experimental music creation. This is unconventional music, aiming to assist the listener in attaining a state of bliss or relaxation. It incorporates obvious artifacts of compressed noise and texture with harmonic tonal elements. The creative process is always evolving and changing, often relying on digital music software and hardware technology to process and re-sample collected 'organic' sounds from analog or environmental sources. Side A, Lo-fi bliss music, was recorded and performed live at the Leaving Records modern new age night event, using dynamic compression experiments with a processed & looped Critter & Guitari pocket piano, and ocean sounds samples from a cassette. Dynamic rhythmicals was recorded live at home, using digital marimba samples.

Heil Eris / Enjoy sees the first-time reissue of the work of German synth-wizards Overflow. The group, conceived as the session band of cult tape label Brainstorm-Studio, merely released two cassettes within the timespan of one year, of which Raakvlak now has culled some of the finest moments.

Out of a matrix of drum computers, synths, voices, tape FX and a flute come these five live-takes (no overdubbing used!), dedicated to the trio’s mascot Apumé, which was present at all sessions.

Robert Ashley - Automatic Writing

Lovely Music present a vinyl reissue of Robert Ashley's Automatic Writing, originally released as an LP by Lovely Music in 1979. Over the course of Robert Ashley's career his preoccupation with language and the voice took many forms. He became known in his librettos as a wonderful, funny, moving writer. But with Automatic Writing he examines language at a very "primitive" level -- the human impulse make sounds to express his inner state, whether it be regret, embarrassment, fear, or happiness -- even though there is no one else to listen. Talking to oneself.

Automatic Writing CD compiles three early Robert Ashley works from 1967-79 - some of his most experimental works. Composed in recorded form over a period of five years, "Automatic Writing" is the result of Robert Ashley's fascination with involuntary speech. He recorded and analyzed the repeated lines of his own mantra and extracted four musical characters. The result is a quiet, early form of ambient music. The piece rather famously formed the basis for Nurse With Wound's A Missing Sense (1997). Steven Stapleton's commentary on the recording: "A Missing Sense was originally conceived as a private tape to accompany my taking of LSD. When in that particular state, Robert Ashley's 'Automatic Writing' was the only music I could actually experience without feeling claustrophobic and paranoid. We played it endlessly; it seemed to become part of the room, perfectly blending with the late night city ambiance and the 'breathing' of the building." The piece features the voices of Ashley and Mimi Johnson, with electronics and Polymoog backing, with a switching circuit designed and built by Paul DeMarinis.

"Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon" and "She Was A Visitor" are excerpts from an opera entitled "That Morning Thing", composed in 1966-67 as a result of Ashley's impulse to express something about the suicides of three friends. "Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon", originally issued in 1968, is a woman's description of a sexual experience. Ashley attempts "to demonstrate the dichotomy between the rational-whatever can be explained in words-and its opposite-which is not irrational or a-rational, but which cannot be explained in words." The lead voice performed by Cynthia Liddell, the processed back-up chorus, the recurring bell tone, and the pervading tape hiss, create an unsettling mood. "She Was a Visitor" was originally issued on the electronic compilation Extended Voices in 1967. It is another form of description, intended to be understood as a form of rumor. The chorus is divided into groups, each headed by a leader. A lone speaker repeats the title sentence throughout. The separate phonemes of this sentence are picked up freely by the group leaders and are relayed to the group members, who sustain them softly and for the duration of one natural breath. The time lag produces a staggered, chant-like effect, with the sounds moving outward from the nearest performer to the farthest. Booklet notes by Robert Ashley.

After Ashley's phrases lengthen enough to encompass sense-making phrases, a bass-register groove briefly appears, vanishes, then returns. Invisible City Editions reissues a selection of classic street soul tunes from the legendary duo Soul Connection (Toyin Agbetu and Earl Myers). A mix of well loved tracks from Soul Connection's 1988 "Rough & Ready" and 1990 "Raw Street Soul", remastered from the original master reels. This one has been a long time in the making and we are really excited to finally put it out!

You’d be hard pressed to find a more central figure to the story of ’80s UK Street Soul than Toyin Agbetu. A former computer programming prodigy turned musician/artist/producer, Agbetu was one of the principals in the development of a sound that merged the playful romance of soul music with the DIY ethos and raw, drum machine-driven beats of hip-hop and other burgeoning underground movements of the time. With his London-based independent record label, Unyque Artists, and a studio HQ-ed out of his Hackney bedroom, Toyin would embark on a remarkably prolific run as a producer and artist under a myriad of aliases and pseudonyms on associated spin-off labels. One such project was Soul Connection – a collaboration with friend and fellow indie label head Earl Myers that, despite its low-key bordering on phantom profile, yielded two albums, Rough and Ready (1988) and Raw Street Soul (1990) released on UA affiliate Intrigue Records. Though both LPs were well received upon initial release, the years since have only increased their stature amongst fans of elusive grooves. As evidenced by the six beloved tracks collected on Invisible City Editions’ Street Soul EP, Soul Connection’s addictively simple hooks, punchy mid-tempo rhythms, and forays into breakbeat and house remain as easy to appreciate as ever.

Tropical Syndroms is the second album by Thé Déluge, a.k.a. Vincent Caylet, also known as Cankun (Not Not Fun / Hands in the Dark). Like his debut album Forest Structures (Umor Rex, 2017), this new installment is an amalgam of sounds generated through multiple devices and analog synthesizers, loops and layers creating an incredible mix of textures, sounds that can almost be touched. In Caylet’s work, there is always a certain familiarity in the tones, there is an implicit nature present, an ancient ecosystem that evokes somewhat ghostly landscapes, intrinsically friendly, subtle and sweet, concrete and sharp. Tropical Syndroms is one piece lasting almost 38 minutes, a cinematic trip inspired by Asian films. One single piece with many different atmospheres, but with one unified idea leading to a melancholic statement.

The digital releases DD01 (The Mamba) and DD02 (Krokakai) came about to provide a more DJ-focussed aspect of the label: dancefloor-friendly tracks that didn't wander off quite so far into the oddball, esoteric, 'psychedelic' territory of the label's primary output. It seemed digital was more appropriate for this output....however, much feedback and many emails have proven this isn't quite the case.

GOLDEN RETREIVER AND CHUCK JOHNSON - Rain Shadow

Golden Retriever and Chuck Johnson are artists unified by their ability to build entire ecosystems of sound. As Golden Retriever, bass clarinetist Jonathan Sielaff and synthesist Matt Carlson blur the lines between their respective instruments while guitarist Chuck Johnson is lauded for crafting a diversity of atmospheres, be it through fingerstyle acoustic or droning pedal steel. The combined powers of the trio is intoxicating. On their debut album, Rain Shadow, they combine slowly shifting instrumental layers and clouds of melody and texture, punctuated by emotional peaks. Minimalist approaches compound into maximalist pieces, evoking images of vast open desert and clear skies, simple yet seemingly endless. Rain Shadow's title is taken from a natural phenomenon which leaves the plains just beyond mountain ranges desolate and dry. Each piece moves with the ease and progression of a cloud formation. Inside a wash of ever-building layers of drone, subtle movement propels them forward. The album's A side emulates the the beauty and solace of these open spaces with lush beds of pedal steel chords and deliberate melodies trading between synthesizer and bass clarinet. Sielaff's increasingly distorted winds on "Sage Thrasher" gradually guide the ensemble towards the overcast deluge of the album's second half. The trio utilize steady, imperceptible motion akin to a desert's wind eroding stones into new and exciting configurations of sound. The four longform pieces that comprise Rain Shadow were devised entirely remotely. In contrast to the album's harmonious sound, each member of the trio tracked their performance separately from one another - Johnson from in Oakland, CA, and Sielaff and Carlson each in their Portland, OR homes. Previous Golden Retriever albums have used live performances as a reference point for arranging and consolidating ideas, but Rain Shadow's collaboration instead grew from members introducing a simple idea and each other member responding with musical reactions. Johnson's extended tape loops which gently degrade with each repetition into resonant tones served as the basis for the album's two longer pieces. Like the phenomenon that inspires the title 3 different forces come together to create something new.

With his second release for the Swiss-based Hallow Ground imprint after 2016's Soisong reissue, Ivan Pavlov pays tribute to the late Sentrax founder and prolific musician John Everall, who passed away in September 2014. Sourced from analogue material provided by the artist widely known for his output under the Tactile moniker for a collaboration that never came to fruition, the six tracks are an exercise in minimalism and subtlety singular even in Pavlov's impressive back catalogue. On COH plays EVERALL, Pavlov focuses on swirling arpeggios whose colourfulness is mirrored in the Ruth Stofer's artwork for the limited picture disk release. From the joyful, handclap-driven »2016« to the hectic gabber derivate »OVERBEAT«, the Russian producer explores a minimalistic yet organic palette of synthesizer sounds that stylistically reach from the hymnic poise of »WAVETRAP« to the playful and warm vibes of »ALONE (MINIMAL SELFIE)«. Garden City Movement's debut album 'Apollonia' is set for release on 16th March 2018. The trio of Roy Avital, Yoav Saar and Johnny Sharoni produce a blend of sounds drawn from their diverse cultural worlds, ranging from art-pop to experimental house to horizontally-aligned vibes.

Since surfacing at the close of 2013 with their breakout track 'Move On', Garden City Movement have released 'Entertainment' and 'Bengali Cinema' EPs, the 'Modern West' 12' in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory, climbed the Hype Machine Popular Chart with multiple singles, recorded live sessions for Boiler Room, Majestic Casual and FACT, opened for Bonobo, Caribou, Alt-J and played all over the world. The band's music video for 'Move On' received a nomination for Best Music Video at the LA Film Festival, won Best Video of The Year' at the MTV Israel Music Awards and the video for 'She's So Untouchable' screened at Raindance Film Festival in London.

Recording through 2017 at their studio in Tel Aviv, Garden City Movement took the time to explore their sound as a band. From the combination of dream-like vocals and cinematic-RnB in singles 'Slightly All The Time' 'Before I Fall' and 'A Means To An End' to the leftfield four-four of 'Mediterranea' and 'Sans Titre' or the ethereal jazz of 'I Knew Before I Met Her (That One Day I Would Lose Her)' and worldly influences of the title track - the heightened craft in their production is firmly felt across the album's 18 tracks.

After releasing three EPs, which each had a very tight deadline, recording the album has been a chance to grow. It's the first time we have been able to really take the time and experiment a lot in the studio, try to develop and deepen our language, come up with new sounds, and take our techniques even further'. - Garden City Movement

The album takes a darker path lyrically, exploring the breakdown of a fading relationship and the depression, loneliness and abuse that follows. While not explicit, this melancholy grounds the album in the real world. The fusion of forward facing production and confessional account of human-interaction frames an emotional and honest album of modern soul music.

Species Of Fishes was created in 1993 in Moscow during the experimental home sessions of Igor Kolyadny and Vitaly Stern, which resulted in the recording of the Songs Of A Dumb World, a sampledelic album, published on the sublabel of the Dutch Staalplaat - Kormplastics in 1994. It was followed by the album Trip Trap (1996) on the domestic label Exotica, which immediately affirmed Species of Fishes as one of the leading electronic groups in Russia. It is this seminal album that marks the first release of Nina Kraviz's new label GALAXIID.
GALAXIID runs as a sub label of , illuminating the listening side of Nina's musical taste with a focus on experimental, ambient and psychedelia. As with , GALAXIID has a strong connection to art through it's visual identity, with all the cover artworks drawn by psychedelic artists.
Trip Trap was so ahead of its time upon initial release and still sounds modernistic as it is rereleased almost 20 years later. Here, Species Of Fishes explore different genres of electronics, somehow interpreting them and creating their own unique out-of-genre stylistics, marrying different styles such as breaks and experimental in 'Health 100%', electro and ambient in 'Crash Recovery', IDM and techno in 'Bfg9000 vs. Barons Of Hell'. The 10 tracks range from short interludes '(Backspace)' and (Alt+Tab) to more lengthy tracks '(The Web)' and 'Access Depth'.

Backing up the clear 80's blue visuals of waves white washed wind blasted FX, is a variety of original pop and synth music made by the films' composer, Chris Eggleton. There are no song titles, rather each track is spiced-up with wind and wave sound fx, which were originally meant to act as sound accents for wave sail action in the film. The pop songs are beach-spiked hits, sounding like New Zealand's flying nun rock, or blasted out prince chorus funk, but with added film sound fx, the essence of the silver screen begins to creep into the medium of audio disc! The synth music on Tradewinds sounds as if Tangerine Dream made inspirational beach movie tracks during the height of their 'Firestarter' period. The mix is arranged by Pacific City, so that the summer doesn't crash and burn. Asuna + Tomoyoshi Date + Federico Durand - In The Open

More than five years after Federico Durand (12K, Spekk) released his solo record Adormidera through Dauw, the label announces his first collaborative full album together with Tomoyoshi Date (Home Normal, Baskaru) and Asuna Arashi (Faitiche, Home Normal): In the Open.

When Durand, Date and Arashi were touring together during the Spring of 2017 in Japan, they decided to visit the old city of Kanazawa. On one hand they wanted to wander through the streets, visit the castles and the gardens. On the other hand there was a longing for recording sessions together. This record is the result of the perfect middle ground: they did both simultaneously, accompanied by battery-powered keyboards, tiny instruments and a recorder. The track titles can be read as a story and are live recordings of that day.

In the Open combines the differential artistic practice of 3 musicians and results in 1 sonic reflection on both urban and natural elements the town of Kanazawa was depicting at that time. Not with words, but purely with sounds, this trio tried to give a glimpse of what their journey might have looked and sounded like. Even more, it’s a documentation of building friendships and long lasting ties of an increasingly integrating global ambient scene.

Brett Naucke - The Mansion

Brett Naucke returns to Spectrum Spools with his sophomore LP for Spectrum Spools following the "Seed" LP (SP-034) as well as a string of exceptional cassette releases on Umor Rex and Hausu Mountain.

"The Mansion" finds Naucke at the peak of his powers with a fresh array of meticulously composed psychotropic tapestries. Themes based on a childhood home, now a distant memory, reveal a mysterious narrative in mind-bending sonic detail. These complex ideas fuse conflicting states of tension and beauty with an organic acumen, each track a piece of the greater whole.

"The Mansion" is a fine mixture of contemporary concrète structure interlaced with tightly crafted melodic arrangement and hi-fidelity electronic exploration. In addition to his stalwart synthesis, Naucke employs additional personnel featuring vocal duties from Natalie Chami (of Goodwill Smith and TALsounds) and Viola sounds from Whitney Johnson (of Matchess). Field recording, piano and other various instrumentation are also carefully implemented adding a new, deeper dimension to the Naucke oeuvre.

With his most realized set of compositions yet, "The Mansion" finds Naucke at the paragon of his conceptual and sonic ethos with a work that's at once deeply meaningful and profound in it's auditory breadth.

His zonked imagination is brought to clarity by Corey Kikos' final mix, further animated via Ben Jones' sleeve design.

Feldermelder's "The Sound Of" is a collection of tracks created in hotel rooms around the world. "The Sound Of" is a homage to personal moments worth keeping alive in one's memory.
The flexi disc features the track "Harmony" and was an insert in Zweikommasieben Magazine #14. The screen-printed inlay by Mathias Forbach / Fichtre features an index of sounds and frequencies used in the composition. The flexi disc comes with a download code for four additional tracks.Feldermelder's influences range from the decomposed structure works of old pioneers of Electronic Music to classical Jazz, electronic and analog music from the now, before and tomorrow. The diversity of the music that inspires him, finds reflection in his own sonic adventures, forming his ever evolving sound, combining as map and compass to guide his artistic outbursts. Feldermelder is co-founder of -OUS records and member of the art collective encor.studio. He has been performing internationally with his recent audiovisual live show "Erratic" and the AI-driven installation "Initiation", among others.

After a long hiatus the noisy and most telepathic Montreal impro trio Jane & The Magik Bananas, led by Sam Shalabi (Land Of Kush, Karkhana, Dwarfs Of East Agouza) returned with a shifted focus exploring rhythm in a global sense. Live compositional practise with rhythm and polyrhythm as the structuring principle led them to different kinds of western / non-western tuning and micro tonality. In a certain way they play in the Western tradition of Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time Band, Harry Partch and Captain Beefheart. Various world music traditions boiled together in the groovy crucible of improvisation. An album that will certainly delight friends of the Dwarfs Of East Agouza. Loup Uberto founds the Bégayer trio with Alexis Vinéïs and Lucas Ravinale, explores the traditional melodies of northern Italy, records intriguing sound documents - Cuban "raw" music, Eastern European travel diaries, Kurdish songs from Syria -, initiates gestures for French “chanson” with Le Saule record label, questions the gaze and its fiction, the rough edges of language, documents exile and wandering through sound testimonies, writings and photographs.

Racconto artigiano, the artisanal tale, is inspired by Walter Benjamin's Experience and Poverty, where the author comments on the drying up of popular fables; it is the compendium of numerous attempts on various materials: mobile phones, percussion, short-circuited radio transistors, computer limiters, clarinet, medieval and popular songs from northern Italy, sound collages.

Recorded in the reformed church of Mens-en-Trièves, a village at the foot of the Obiou mountain range and digging towards the eastern slope of the Vercors, this album is the outcome of some three or four years of research, the account of a series of experiments, thus itself a sort of document, a repertoire of sketches delivered as they are, completely raw and made disturbing by their dryness, just as the folk tale - which refrains from speaking - is a view offered on the horizon of silence.

You Can't Defeat Her, When You Meet Her You'll Get What I Said B2 Marlon Hoffstadt - 2000MG Floating Info: Retrograde returns late September with 'In Reverse Pt.1', a various artist package featuring Matteo Luis, Natureboy Gold, Terron and Marlon Hoffstadt. Berlin based imprint Retrograde marks its fith release here and once again welcomes back a selection of the collective recording artists already featured on the label such as label head-honcho Natureboy Gold, FFRR/Play It Down artist Marlon Hoffstatd, also co-founder of the label and tipped as a Future Star by Pete Tong on Radio 1. Matteo Luis also makes a return following appearances on two EP's for the label prior to this, while an exciting addition to the catalogue comes in the shape of Terron, most notably known for their work with Young Turks sub-label WHITIES. Up first on the release is Matteo Luis' 'Out Here' setting the tone with ethereal pad swells, organic rhythms and choppy bass hits while a soft and brooding melodic tension subtly unwinds throughout the composition. Natureboy Gold's 'Eternal' follows and employs a similarly airy synth feel while introducing a robust tom- driven rhythmic approach to create an understated dance-floor focused contribution. Opening the flip is Terron's cryptically named 'No.57, You Can't Defeat Her, When You Meet Her You'll Get What I Said' which drops the tempo to a low slung feel with dubbed out bass licks, bumpy percussion and spiraling bass drones to create something idiosyncratic and psychedelic. Pantha Du Prince - Conference Of Trees

Hendrik Weber aka Pantha Du Prince (‘a fantasy character...a poetic transporter for the concept behind the music’) has carved a niche for a style of techno he calls, ‘layered and cinematographic.’ He released the Diamond Daze (2004) and This Bliss (2007) albums on Berlin dance label Dial before signing to Rough Trade and widening his audience with Black Noise (2010) and The Element of Light (2013).

On “Conference of Trees”, Pantha Du Prince explores the communication of trees and creates a sound concept based on it. What we experience here is a break through recording of experimental music, visual poetry, club culture and speculative science.

On the other side, PRAYER shows his talent for the piano with B1 - KIND, finessing the skills that reflect his first adventures in sound. It's an emotive, stripped back number. A smashing, jungle-esque drop and pumping drum patterns pull you deep into a reverberating, metallic bassline which pulses and stands out prominently against the mix. This is scratch music that takes us to the Electric ScratchHappyLand. It might as well be a tribute record celebrating 50 years of Jimmy Hendrix Experience's last album. And 22 years of Kid Koala's greatest mix-tape of all time.

The neon lights that decorate a dive bar's window cast a vivid reflection in rainwater on the pavement outside, as steam rises from deep beneath the ground. A slow pan across the scene, past alleys cast in shadow, twilit corners & glass doorways streaked with the mist of humid bodies fuming inside: the camera catches the denizens of an unnamed city, studying faces heavy with secrets too sad to bear. Cut to the motorway. Sleek cars barrel through the night. Sirens moan. Engines rev. You're behind the wheel, over the edge as the credits roll.

This film does not exist — but the soundtrack does. Symmetry is Johnny Jewel & Nat Walker, & Themes For an Imaginary Film is their two-hour cinematic opus pokus, a sprawling score for a movie that screens only in your mind. A 'conceptual tangent between Glass Candy, Chromatics, Mirage, & Desire's more abstract sides,' as Jewel himself describes the project, Symmetry is a vigorous, electric, restless exploration of ideas on the bleeding edge of instrumental sound. Greek electronic composer Vangelis created his piece Albedo 0.39 while influenced by the blues and jazz music. The concept album is themed around space physics and the title is based in the planet’s albedo; the proportion of the light it receives that is reflected back into space. Albedo 0.39 features amazing pieces like Pulstar and Alpha and went on to become his first British top 20 title. Vangelis played every instrument on the record, which contains effective and versatile synthesizer passages. The sci-fi techno sounds and progressive parts marks the different sides of the record, infused with jazz. A truly wonderful listening experience and a must-have for every progressive and electronic music fan.

The multiple-award winning composer of electronic, progressive, orchestral and jazz music started his career working in several successful bands, such as Aphrodite’s Child. He composed over 50 albums and is still creative in developing new concepts.

Minor Science - Second Language LP

The LP gives us a widescreen view of a musical world previously glimpsed through the producer’s series of 12" releases. A kaleidoscope of tempos and intensities, the record is often fast but rarely heavy, fizzing with detail but full of space, euphoric in places but frequently blue in mood.

As the title suggests, the album takes translation as a guiding principle, putting an idiomatic spin on familiar styles - from Detroit-ish techno and hyperspeed electro to twilit electronica, musique concrete and sour modal jazz. Minor Science's language is a knotty one, packed with odd time-signatures, brain-bending sound design and a playful palette of switch-ups, fake-outs and digital hiccups. But it's also soft and emotive, and shot through with vibrant melody.

Minor Science’s relationship with languages is a strong feature of the record. More precisely the relationship between a second and third language, and a mother tongue.
It signals an effort to get out of familiar habits, echoing the relationship he has with his own music writing and music making. Regardless of attempts to be precise, a translation can never fully capture the original meaning.

New York City based imprint HOMAGE continues to deliver raw and upfront electronic sounds from up and coming talent, the imprint released the debut EP from now hotly tipped artist KETTAMA and most recently released the critically acclaimed debut EP from Will Hofbauer. Here we see the label welcome Dublin, Ireland based artist DART onto its roster, yet another rising talent making waves on his home turf and further afield across the globe.

‘Raided’ opens the release with thunderous swinging drums, twitchy synth sequences, bumpy bass and rave-tinged strings to perfectly set the tone. ‘Only The Strong’ follows next, retaining a similarly rave-tinged aesthetic via a hypnotic synth hook, shuffled percussion and rumbling subs while female vocal hooks flow amongst the sturdy groove.

The two remixes make up the B-Side of the release and X-Coast’s ‘Da Vibe Mix’ is up first, reshaping the original with an uptempo trance-leaning twist courtesy of choppy, filtered synth licks, organic percussion and pulsing low-end bass line. Dixon Avenue Basement Jams regular Big Miz then rounds things out with his take on ‘Only The Strong’, opting for squelchy 303 licks and dusty dynamic drums alongside the originals lead and infectious vocals.

MICHAEL GRIGONI & STEPHEN VITIELLO - SLOW MACHINES

Slow Machines brings together veteran Stephen Vitiello and 12k newcomer Michael Grigoni, whose debut Mount Carmel (12k1090, 2018) made an impression for its merging of the pedal and lap steel guitars with a hushed, ambient sound. With both calling the southern mid-Atlantic region of the United States home, the two met up and discussed a collaboration in which Grigoni would provide the guitars and Stephen the electronics and processing with a goal of combining each of their artistic languages into a new form.
Vitiello, whose work is steeped heavily in the installation and art world, utilized both his trademark field recordings as well as recordings from the oddly whimsical kinetic sculptures of artist Arthur Ganson. The clicking and rattling sounds of these sculptures were the inspiration for the album title as the metal forms whirl and whir in repetitive motion like slow machines. A feather on one of Ganson’s pieces softly touches the string of a violin and recordings from Vitiello’s fieldwork in Sheridan, Wyoming provide a tactile sense of place as the duo creates a series of new sonic machines that morph and evolve over the bending, lulling tones of the steel guitars

The members of Minamo (Keiichi Sugimoto and Tetsuro Yasunaga) have known Moskitoo (Sanae Yamasaki) for many, many years and have worked together in all sorts of ways. They have not, however, performed a live set or recorded together before what has become Superstition.
Superstition is a gathering of close friends creating music they love to create and exploring the small crevices and details of electric, electronic, and acoustic sounds. While the songs sound intentionally composed and arranged, the actual recording process was quite spontaneous and generative.
Minamo has a wonderful back catalog of releases on 12k, Room 40 and the all-too-short-lived Apestaartje. Their music is known to incorporate a large amount of interesting instruments and sound-making objects. Dreamy and fractured, beautiful and slightly unsettling. Moskitoo adds a vocal element not heard before in Minamo’s music bringing an angelic air to the scattered earthen sound.

Newly reworked selected classics by the 2020 line-up of the legendary pioneers of electronica and ambient. Including “Phaedra”, “Stratosfear”, “Tangram” and “Yellowstone Park”. Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic music since Edgar Froese founded the band in West Berlin, 1967. Providing the groundwork for multiple electronic music genres including ambient and electronica, inspiring musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine Tree, the widely popular TV show ‘Stranger Things’ (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). The group have also received seven Grammy
nominations, written over 100 studio albums and were led by Froese, who developed an instantly recognisable synth-based instrumental music based on a meditative musical experience that came to prominence in the 70’s and 80’s. Fast-forward to the present day, when popular culture is rediscovering synthesizers and sequencers, and Tangerine Dream are in the mix of an exciting time for an evolving electronic music scene. Modern Tangerine Dream has seen the beginning of ‘The Quantum Years’, which began as a concept and series of musical sketches by Froese before he passed away in 2015. Remaining band members Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane worked together to realize Edgar’s visions and
expectations of a conceptual body of work that attempts to translate quantum philosophy into music. The new direction led to the 2017 album ‘Quantum Gate’, which was described by The Guardian as their “most interesting release in years.” With ‘Recurring Dreams’, the new generation of Tangerine Dream pay homage to the band’s timeless beginnings with captivating and emotional renditions of selected classics, such as “Phaedra”, “Stratosfear”, “Tangram” and “Yellowstone Park”. Huerco S.’ West Mineral Ltd. yield a split LP from Exael and Ben Bondy floating ambient ideas about augmented reality and technology powered by organic matter, or Biotech, following up the assymetric lines of Serwed’s debut and the frayed interzones explored by Pontiac Streator and Ulla Strauss Marking Exael’s return to the label after 2018’s ‘collex’ album, ‘Aphelion Lash’ brings the sympathetic soul of Ben Bondy into the fold for a sensitively dreamy album oscillating the pair’s work in solo and collaborative forms. Using barely-there, liminal traces of electronics arranged in laminal flows, the pair arrive at illusive conclusions across eight tracks comparable to a more worn-out take on Torsten Pröfrock’s T++/Dynamo/Traktor mechanics, or indeed the fleeting, thizzing timbres of Ghostride The Drift, aka the trio helmed by Exael with Huerco S. And uon.
Operating at a point of dematerialised compositional control where the layers of desiccated rhythm and pads appear to operate interdependent of each other, the album blooms and wilts in cycles of etheric harmony and scratchy, amorphous rhythms that unfold with only the slightest presence of human input.
Like the Serwed album of generative oddities before it, the sound of ‘Aphelion Lash’ craftily emulates a posthuman sort of nature, but like all the material on West Mineral Ltd., that elusive pathos or ghost in the machine spirit is key to the album’s appeal, and by the end of its course it’s practically impossible to tell who is behind each cut, as the artists dissolve into ambient compounds on its collaborative highlights, the dreamily diffracted slosh of ‘Aphelion Lash’, and the supremely blunted, Spectre-style illbient ‘90s hip hop crush of ’Six Steppa’.

Hidden Spheres feat. Oscar Jerome - Words Can't Explain

Mancunian Hidden Spheres has showcased himself as one of the most innovative producers out there, releasing across the likes of Lobster Theremin, Rhythm Section International and his own imprint Fruit Merchant, all of which have been the perfect outlets for his inspiring blend of house and jazz. Church now features as the latest addition, who continue their stellar discography with 'Words Can't Explain', a collaborative EP which sees Hidden Spheres alongside singer-songwriter and guitarist, Oscar Jerome.

The collection begins with the original mix, lowering you into slick jazz guitar licks and echoing vocals, before Hidden Spheres provides a tight groove to lock around the melodies in fine form. The hybrid creation of jazz meets house binds perfectly as warm keys hang effortlessly in the air and popping guitar lines carry you onwards, supporting the sublime vocal from Oscar.

The dub version opens up room for the guitar licks and synth top lines to take centre stage, a real opportunity to marvel at the arrangement here.

On the flip is Yu Su's rework who ups the tempo and dims the lights for a punchier rework.. The half way point welcomes a percussive led break before the hats return and pick up the groove once again, closing the 'Words Can't Explain' EP in style.

"Annual Flowers in Color" is an absolutely gorgeous, perfectly weathered, subtly strange record. It's exactly the thing you're thinking of when you think "I want to hear really killer polysynths and tape delay" but it's also much more, glistening with distended reflections of Steve Roach and Stapleton, ringing with simultaneous sublimated echoes of the dorkiest and most expensive French mellotron prog and the most incandescent cheap heat from the $2 exotica bin, and dripping with the "as above, so below" that characterizes synthesizer records at their best. It's both a welcoming point of entry for the uninitiated and a sticky, seductive cut deep enough to envelop any heads seeking a way station on the search for the apocryphal second volume of Cosmos Farm Sessions.

'Exit Entrance' is the DFA debut for Kohei Matsunaga aka NHK yx Koyxen.

Kohei has been making / releasing music since 1997 and has recorded for such iconic labels as Mille Plateaux, Important, Pan & Diagonal.

His latest recordings explore intricate drum programming, lush melodies & sparkling arrangements. Touchstones include the legendary 'Clicks & Cuts' compilations from the 1990's as well as Aphex Twin & Autechre. RA called his music bombastic techno funk....unpredictable but rarely disappointing'.

'Exit Entrance' is a collection of new songs that snap and flicker unlike anything Kohei has done in the past. There is a clarity and beauty to these tracks that bursts out of the speakers in a three dimensional way, matching the 3D glasses that the artist wears during all his live performances. The elegant arrangements and crisp drum breaks match the concise song titles - Kohei foregoes the typical impenetrable track names made up of numbers and shorthand, and opts for a more direct emotional sincerity through the sonic themes of the record. Not all the music here falls into the same exact formula.

As the album heads towards a close, after several tracks of harmonious beauty, we get 'Outset (for Mika Vainio)', a sombre hushed techno tune, dedicated to his late friend and musical collaborator, who unexpectedly passed away earlier this year as the record was being completed. What follows after this track is perhaps the real catharsis, as 'Dented' ominously kicks off with acidic stabs and rolls into a tumultuous dirge of gritty techno.

In this regard, 'Exit Entrance' can play out like a life cycle, a mini opera of birth and beauty, of sorrow and mourning.

It is one of the most direct and honest records Kohei has ever made, and DFA is beyond proud to present this work from such an esteemed creative force in the electronic avant-garde world of music.

It's a captivating encounter when a producer of relative anonymity bursts onto the scene with an exciting and engaging release, that you're drawn back to again and again, wondering how you've never heard of them before. Porto producer Pedro, & Washington DC vocalist Jenna Camille have achieved exactly that with this first release on the mighty Wolf Music Recordings.

The influences from jazz though to soul, RnB & broken beat are weaved deep within this record. You're drawn in from the off with an intro of stripped back pianos behind an emotional spoken word monologue from Jenna, before it opens up into a beatsy, RnB infused groove.

Having pulled you in 'Float' hits you with a richness of synth textures, layers of broken beats and dreamy chords alongside Jenna's "float" mantra hypnotising you deeper and deeper. Reaching the last section of the track though you're woken from that hypnotic groove with a switch to a raw and energetic breakbeat sure to get any crowd moving.

'Keep It H 2000', the final track on the A side, has a real flavour of Fatima to it emanating from Jenna's blissful vocals - laid over the top of sustained Rhodes, weighty synth lines and dynamic drums.

Flip it over and there's a tougher intensity to 'Future Dance (It'll Be OK)', coupling rhythmic stabs with jazzy chord progressions, laced behind a groove that wouldn't be out of place lighting up the floor at a Co-Op night.

To close out the e.p. you're given a sensory overload through Jenna's staggered, overlaid vocals panned to come at you from every angle - it's the perfect outro to both stun you and leave you wanting more. And if this extremely well-polished, first key release is a sign of things to come, Pedro's name will be becoming a lot more familiar in years to come.

Thomas Park is an artist committed to music but in a very different way than most artists, with a much deeper bond, with an extensive and very interesting career, connected in its beginnings with fractal music, a discipline that links composition with mathematical patterns, so that the recursive and experimental music had a great impact already in his first steps as a producer.

His artistic legacy is incredibly broad. In 2005 he founded Treetrunk, a record label that operates as a netlabel and that to date has more than 500 releases, most of them published by Thomas Park himself. Only in the last few months the number of albums he has released is extraordinary, up to 5 LPs in a week, and each one with a different concept.

TheGodsOfFission is a live double-track album in which Thomas Park shows not only enormous creative skill but also a great talent for combining countless sound sources. In this album, field recordings converge with different rhythms and other sound elements that add depth and, in a few occasions, break minimally with his urban aesthetics.

Matrixxman & Physical Therapy - Threads EP

Charles Duff and Daniel Fisher have known each other since well before their respective forays into dance music. They serendipitously crossed paths at some point in the early 2010s with mutual friends in the NYC club kid scene. Shortly thereafter they realised they both were keen to ditch the vapid hipster bullshit that had fueled their early careers thus far in order to pursue something pure: techno. Mind you, this was at a time when it was not terribly cool to be into underground dance music. If anything, they both were greeted with massive skepticism from their peers but that didn't ultimately deter them. Both went from relative obscurity to regular slots at Berghain. And for two American kids musing in a pathetic bedroom studio, this was nothing short of a dream come true. A prophecy had been fulfilled.

The two tried their hands at numerous attempts at collaboration over a 5 year period but nothing seemed to stick. Most of it sucked horrendously according to them. But not on this occasion. The stars finally came into alignment and they were able to execute a concise group of tracks that finally made sense together. Which brings us to Threads.

Threads, an homage to the uber-dystopian BBC docudrama from the 80s, sums up their dynamic approach to tracks. It's an alienating, sinister take on techno that somehow manages to not fully lose faith in dire times. Much like life today.

A MELODIOUS JOURNEY THROUGHOUT THE UNIVERSAL HISTORY Founded by Safak Ozkutle, Oceanvs Orientalis is a one-man formation which aims to challenge the aesthetic perception in electronic music. It blends itself with the archaic tunes of mankind’s cumulative musical history and in this very context believes that “everything comes from the east”. He uses electronic music to carry the old vibes he grew up with to the dance floor, transforming irregular local rhythms into 4/4 electronic beats. Since 2011 he has been making both DJ sets and live performances, and since 2015 he focused to perform mostly as live shows Ex Nihilo (Latin “out of nothing”) It’s and immersive experience where digital art and music collides. A melodic Story told by Safak Ozkutle aka Oceanvs Orientalis through his first thematic album which tells 10 different stories of 10 breaking points of the Universal history, from the Planetary scale to the Human dimensions. Beginning right from the first point of creation, the big bang in title track ‘Ex Nihilo’, Oceanvs travels through the timeline that in turn saw the evolution of our planet and universe as it is today, whilst touching briefly on where we may end in the future. SONG OF THE CREATIONPERFORMANCE The Ex Nihilo Show is planned to be performed by a 17-piece small orchestra. This orchestra will be consisted of strings, brass, a small choir and percussions, and will be led by a conductor.

THE FOUR OWLS - NOCTURNAL INSTINCT

The Four Owls swarm into 2020 by announcing the long-awaited news of their third studio album Nocturnal Instinct dropping via High Focus Records on 17th April 2020. Since their inception in ‘11, The Four Owls have become best known for their thought-provoking, emotive and undiluted lyricism. They’ve never shied away from delving deep within and in doing so have carved a unique space for themselves within the Hip-Hop landscape.

With the collective comprising of Leaf Dog, Fliptrix, Verb T & BVA the foursome perfectly demonstrate the age-old idea that you can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends, The Four Owls have fabricated an honest bond of brotherhood that spills out into their music which can only be described as Hip-Hop in its purest form. At the production helm, Leaf Dog is responsible for creating not only the entire album but The Owls signature sound which they have become so infamous for.

Nocturnal Instinct is set to become a cult classic and features artists you rarely see collaborate with musicians on this side of the pond. Super-producer DJ Premier, who only ever works with The Owls in the UK, lends his golden era beats to single ‘100%’ - with his signature scratched chorus proclaiming The Owls as 'kings of their throne' - the follow up to their first monumental collaboration, ‘Think Twice’.

Also gracing the project is RA The Rugged Man, an artist has also worked with the likes of Notorious B.I.G, Mobb Deep, & Wu-Tang Clan, now welcomes The Owls into his hall of fame. RA chops it up on ‘Air Strike’ and brings his own East Coast style and fast-paced flow. Up next is arguably one of the biggest names to come from the underground in recent years, Roc Marciano. Marciano lures you into a meditative state in ‘Dark Days’ by carefully finding his place within The Owls unmatched beats. Nocturnal Instinct is a series of hand-picked tracks designed to challenge the status quo and educate.

The Owls continue to school throughout the entire album with
other appearances from the likes of Smellington Piff, Kool G Rap,
as well as Masta Killa (Wu-Tang).
