Having teased us with a free download in recent weeks it's time to present the real deal, the first official single taken from the brand new album from the unstoppable, wholly original, Alix Perez. Having laid his foundations firmly within drum & bass over the past eight years it was his debut LP back in 2009 that set a precedent for his musical ambition, being one of the first producers to really embrace the crossing of the genres; '1984' astounded critics and fans the world over, gaining accolades across the board from the likes of Mixmag and DJ Mag through to the Metro newspaper and Q Magazine. Now as we get ready for the next chapter, 'Annie's Song' serves as the ultimate prelude to the main event, a thoroughbred electronic masterpiece.
- Hard to pigeon-hole, 'Annie's Song' is a sublime slice of bright-eyed electro R&B featuring the stirring vocals of Sam Wills and some of the most sparkling production to have ever come out of the Perez studio. Plucked strings, affected vocals and fuzzy synths all melt together over a thick half-time break for a full-on future soul excursion perfect for those warmer springtime days ahead.
- Following on and this limited 10' vinyl is completed by the absolutely pumping remix from man of the moment Shadow Child, taking us deep into some proper UK garage business. Throbbing 4/4 kicks, scattered percussion and the chopped vocal make way for a truly rudeboy bassline ready to rock any club or house party you care to throw it at. A lovely addition to this already superlative Alix Perez single release.

Ever since Stephen Sharp and Roc Jiménez de Cisneros embarked on the deconstructive process they refer to as Rave Synthesis, the goal was to come up with odd relatives of well established sounds in techno culture by constantly messing with the original recipes, expanding the tropes, and hinting at novel paths for contemporary psychedelia. Almost three years after the influential 'Rave Slime', their fifth long player takes the idea one step further.
The content of 'Proper Headshrinker' was first presented in public as part of the group exhibition 'Recurrence, repetition, hypnosis and ritual', curated by Paul Purgas at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, 6/12/12 - 13/01/13. In the show, right next to the speakers playing these tracks, the sentence "Like a balloon producing balloons, producing balloons" was printed on the wall in Pantone 805 fluorescent red, the same colour used on the cover of the album. As it turns out, the title of the exhibition almost feels like the perfect tagline for 'Proper Headshrinker'. The ten tracks in the album are unlikely techno anthems, stripped down hoovers, and deformed supersaws driven by extremely simple cyclic patterns. Ten pieces of identical length that focus on continuity, neighbourhood, and iteration, but also on sameness, insideness and outsideness.
Sharp and Jiménez de Cisneros have used key words such as "slime", "stretching", "sonic Play-Doh", "squeezing" or "folding" to illustrate the notion of homeomorphism (a metaphor borrowed from topology) in relation to the structural developments and the way in which tone bends in their Rave Synthesis tracks. In 'Proper Headshrinker', though, this continuous deformation is much more oblique, since the only source of variation in these monolithic structures comes from subtle phase modulations. The resulting straightforward brutality demands deep listening and, as usual, proper playback volume.

Peering over the edge of their second year, Program is re-engaging with some of the acts they broke last summer for some equally impressive follow-up releases. Kove is the first to return to the label. A talented tattooed tearaway with a taste for both the blazing beats and the deeper side of the dance, both cuts on his Program debut - 'Iodine' and 'Open Ground' - became instant 2012 dancefloor standards, championed by key players across the board.
* 'Gone' continues his promising audio armoury with distinct maturity. Breathy and breezy, its stunning depths become apparent from the very first fluttering pad. Coated in a beautifully underplayed vocal hook, 'Gone' rolls with blistered bass grace as staccato kicks and snares puncture the otherwise dreamy ambience... And the groove masterfully develops with timeless dancefloor dynamics. Rolling but never quite rampaging, it represents everything that you fell in love with drum & bass in the first place: subtleties, sophistication and just a slight sense of pensive menace.
* 'Airlock' follows. Allowing the vocal to play more of a dominant role in the mix, it's Kove at his most yearning and poignant. Opening with a blast of minor key euphoria, the skippy, snappy breakbeats take complete control of the groove, bowing a big nod to drum & bass's most formative period. Stark and solid, warm and rolling, as 'Airlock' develops we're treated a fine balance of cruising synth washes and laidback guitar licks as the vocal whistles deep in the well-textured mix. If you're looking to hypnotise your floor any time soon then look no further... This will have your crowd locked in tighter than a state penitentiary.

Fresh from the release of his debut solo 12", Destruction/Poseidon, dubstep scene figurehead Youngsta returns with a two-track 12" through Rinse in collaboration with fellow heavyweight LX ONE.Youngsta should need little introduction by now: he's been representing dubstep on Rinse FM and as a resident at FWD>> since its earliest days, as well as mixing one of the most acclaimed titles in the Dubstep Allstars mix series. LX ONE, meanwhile, has released a string of fierce records through labels like Tempa and N-Type's Wheel & Deal, and has collaborated with the likes of SP:MC and Icicle.Together, LX ONE and Youngsta have created some of the leanest and deadliest tracks in the Tempa back catalogue. Even by the stripped-back standards of most contemporary dubstep, 'Responsibility' stands as an exceptionally minimalist cut: little more than metallic percussion, flickering dub chords and a hulking bassline that tears through the mix like a wrecking ball. On the flip, 'No Cure' heads off on a techno-leaning flex, matching plunging subs with rolling percussion, offering an entirely more propulsive companion the A-side's crushing weight.

Massive electro techno Tunes... Resh G and Konik special DZ power !

OK there are not many artists who have had such a hugely influential and broad career as Ray Charles and many of his tunes have been covered for the detriment of betterment of a hundred different styles. Well here at Jazzman we always like to find little gems hiding in plain sight and here we have two beauties that are exactly so. One answer and one reimagining of the classic 'I Got a Woman' - both super fun dancefloor versions. Let's start with the Annie Williams, practically unknown apart from within the deep soul record collector circuit, this version is stronger on the dancefloor than even the Ray Charles original, with its stronger backing and rawkus r&B style vocal it smashes any dancefloor! One for the ladies (so I'm told!)

On the flip we have Bronx-born girl group Baby Jane & The Rockabyes (Madelyn 'Baby Jane' Moore, Yolanda Robinson, Yvonne DeMunn, Estelle McEwan) doing their girl pop interpretation of another classic from Ray. One of the busiest backing session groups in New York City of the period they released 15 singles in their career and were backing singers for Baby Washington on her early Neptune singles, two sides of which we have coming up on Fryers very soon.

Looking to follow in the universally fawned-over footsteps of James Blake, Mount Kimbie and Darkstar, Vondelpark unveil their debut album of lovelorn electronic pop for R&S. Unlike the aforementioned though, Lewis Rainsbury's trio barely even pay lip service to dubstep and dance music tropes: their music is old-fashioned bedsit indie with a crisp 2013 digital veneer and the occasional bold production flourish. Sometimes it really works: the jangly guitar-driven 'Quest' sounds like Aztec Camera slowed to stoner pace, but still bright and buoyant, and the minimalist future-soul sound design of 'Come On' is nothing if not seductive. In the end it kind of falls between two stools - not quite as populist and accessible as, say, Everything Everything, but not as refined or experimental as a Blake or a Kimbie. Still, they have a way with a tune and a good ear for ambience, and you can imagine this very accomplished album embedding itself in a lot of star-crossed young lovers' playlists between now and the end of summer

Exploring a strange ecosystem balanced with equal parts Tech-Noir and Adriatic light, Rainbow Arabia land on a new world with their second full-length album FM Sushi. Amens on Night Slugs OG Grime producer P Jam serves up a curveball on the latest instalment of the White Label series.

Known for seminal beats such as "Anger Management" and "Real", P Jam's old skool productions were right among the canon that influenced Night Slugs so much in the days before we were Night Slugs.

Recently P Jam has been developing a unique production style that incorporates intricately edited hardcore breaks into an updated grime sensibility. A style that is ingeniously deployed on the A side of this 12" - a sub-heavy 2013 jungle 'cover' of a certain very famous Frankie Knuckles production - which is a concept that's just too perfect for the NSWL series. And it's built solid and razor sharp. Ecstasy guaranteed on this one!

On the flip is a bonus cut, another 'cover' of the same track, but this time the breaks, rolling sub and conceptual rave domination are stripped away, creating a skeletal dub version. The icy 808 drums lets the Frankie's sweet melody breathe until a nasty squarewave bass cuts the track in half.

Die Geschichte hinter "Lost Tapes" klingt wie aus dem Zeitalter der analogen Aufnahmegeräte und Medien. Die Songs haben Paco Mendoza und DJ Vadim schon 2008 zwischen London, Berlin und Köln zusammen produziert. Doch kurz vor der Veröffentlichung des Solo-Albumdebüts "Consciente y Positivo" von Paco Mendoza verschwanden die Originalaufnahmen. Auf einem Langstreckenflug von Europa nach Peru ging ein Koffer verloren. Mit dabei waren die sechs Tracks auf einer Festplatte. Auf dem selben Flug zerstörte ein Virus die Sicherungskopien auf dem Computer von Paco: es schien wie ein Fluch aus dem digitalem Zeitalter. Das Duo hat es seitdem nie wieder geschafft sich zusammenzusetzen und die Songs noch einmal im gleichen Stil zu produzieren. Die Veröffentlichung der Songs auf dem Album musste abgesagt werden, dass einzige was blieb waren digitale Mixdowns im MP3-Format. Doch wie es der Zufall will, hat Paco Mendoza auf seiner letzten Reise zu seiner Familie nach Peru ein kleines Wunder erlebt: Aus der Anlage eines Straßenhändlers mitten in der Millionenmetropole Lima schallt der Song "Candela" in die Menge. Der Song wird auf einem Tape mit anderen Titeln verkauft. Paco kann den Verkäufer überzeugen, dass er der Sänger ist und erhält nach langen Verhandlungen die Telefonnummer des Tape- und CD-Produzenten in de Händen, der für tausende Musik-Straßenhändler der Hauptstadt Perus die Ware produziert. Nach etlichen Telefonaten, konspirativen Treffen in einsamen Hinterhöfen und intensiver Überzeugungsarbeit passiert das Unmögliche: Paco Mendoza bekommt die Festplatte mit den Master-Tracks zurück. Im gleichen Moment scheint der Titel der EP klar: "Lost Tapes". Jeder Song für sich ist ein Meisterwerk. Voller eindringlicher Lyrics, satter Beats, einfallsreicher Samples und einer sehr organischen Produktionstechnik. Paco Mendozas variabler spanischer Gesang, vermischt mit den unverkennbaren Beats von DJ Vadim, wird zu einem Klanggenuss zwischen Deep Hip Hop und Downbeat. Die souligen Lyrics von Paco Mendoza haben passend zu den Arrangements inhaltlichen Tiefgang. Der Song "Justicia" ist ein Schrei nach sozialer Gerechtigkeit und eine klare Positionierung Paco Mendozas für die Seite der "entrechteten". Gefeatured von seinem Bruder Don Caramelo und Deuce Eclipse. Der Track "Candela" ist eine Hymne an das Leben, gefeatured von der Londonerin Yarah Bravo, die mit ihrem Flow den Song Hitverdächtig macht.

Although drum & bass evolved from existing only really on dancefloors and into living and lounge rooms long ago, quality listening music with longevity and dancefloor cabability at the same time is almost impossible to find. Thankfully, there are a select few who still consider production a kraft, not commodity, and the making of music a passion that brings pleasure, not as werk. United by this ethos and a love for analogue electronic sounds, genuine artisans TRIAD spent 2012 ensconced in the studio further shaping the essence of the sonic visions they'd already shared with the world into one solid statement of intangible intent - an aural essay in long play format entitled UTOPIA.

Following the first release on my LIT label is from the quite brilliantly named; Bebop & Rocksteady. This might be a new name to some but the guys behnd this project are lukes anger & Ben Mallott.
After playing Catalunya throughout the year i felt this tune needed to see a release, its just so f***ing good. Its response on the dancefloor was devastating. Anyone who has seen me dj recently would remember this one in my set , it gets a massive reaction once that drop comes in. I'll still be playing this all year, a proper slice of good wonky techno.

DJ Madd's entrenched passion for roots music has led to many of his productions over the last five years exhibiting strong creative
influence from the genre. Perhaps most notably on the acclaimed and increasingly rare 'WAR' white label series, Madd melded
together timeless, sun-drenched dubby vibes with the harder-edged bite and suffocating bass pressure of dubstep; a perfect fusion
of styles that has stood the test of time. As a continuation of his dedication to the hybrid sound, this spring sees the inauguration of
his brand new imprint, 'Roots & Future', a label established to deliver the freshest cuts of reggae-flavoured dubstep on full vinyl and
digital release. Madd himself is set to kick off proceedings with 001 featuring two original beats created specifically for the project.
Encapsulating pulsing dancefloor energy and a vibrant sonic palette, the A side 'Never 2 Late' features Japanese vocalist G.Rina, with
her playful melodies intertwining with rich brass fanfares and dread-weight basslines. On the flipside 'Murder Dub', crisp halfstep
rhythms swing below driving saxophone riffs before escalating into a full-blown skanker, punctuated with off-beat chords and a
healthy application of sub frequencies. Due to land late March/ early April on manila sleeved 12' plates, these heavyweight tracks
signal an exciting start for Roots & Future, with plenty more of the best in reggae- infused dubstep music on the horizon.

Following on from their 'Arc EP' released in April, Lakker return to Blueprint with 'Torann EP' featuring five new cuts from this Dublin based duo.

Dara Smith and Ian McDonnell (aka Eomac) formed Lakker back in 2001, with early tracks appearing on compilations for various labels, alongside a number of EPs, followed by their debut album 'Ruido' on Lazybird in 2007, plus more recent excursions on the likes of Killekill and Love Love Records.

With influences ranging from breakcore and jungle to techno and electronica, their sound is just as far-reaching with
organic sample-based productions and synthetic, processed electronic beats.

Lakker's 'Torann EP', their second release for Blueprint, kick-starts with the dappling beats of 'Summer Rains', before
moving onto the more experimental 'Mustard Crying'. 'Ciar' takes us back to the dancefloor with ominous undertones, while 'Static & Amp'
is a simple but effective exercise. Finally the diminutive but meticulous 'One Note' caps the EP off in fine Lakker style.

Miles has been releasing material on Modern Love for a decade, first as one half of Pendle Coven, then on his own as MLZ, and eventually pairing up with Sean Canty to record as Demdike Stare. In between he's also pursued more experimental terrain under the Suum Cuique moniker, produced Jungle for the HATE project and (together with Andy Stott) taken on the occasional release as Millie & Andrea for Modern Love sublabel Daphne. He is also an admired, exhilarating DJ, his sets have been known to span a broad spectrum of electronic music, from the obscure UK techno of labels like Radioactive Lamb and Irdial, to classic Chicago House, Detroit Techno and - most importantly - early 90's jungle and breakbeat, feeding into his love of the most uncompromising end of the Italian experimental movement, Musique Concrète, Synthwave and contemporary Noise. After more than 10 years of producing, "Faint Hearted" is his debut solo album. 'Faint Hearted' is an exposition of Miles' love of electronic music in all its shapes, harnessing his fidgety production style into one expansive, restless set of tracks. The album opens with the filtered and looped Jungle mutation of 'Lebensform', through to the minimal, barely-noticeable bass-shifts of 'Irreligious', the classic Plastikman-infused looped ruffage of 'Status Narcissism' and the padded bliss of "Sense Data", coming across like a lost Move D production from the classic Studio Pankow era. The second half opens with 'Rejoice', a slowly-unfurling 4/4 variant that sounds like a more technofied and electric take on his work with Demdike Stare, while "Archaic Thought Pattern 1" invades a sequence of strings and bass notes with blasts of white noise, sounding like something off Aphex Twin's 'Donkey Rhubarb' EP rebuilt by Mika Vainio. The set ends with the evocative field- recorded sequence 'Queuing' and the ambient futurism of 'Loran Dreams', in some respects the straightest, most affecting 9 minute stretch yet from a producer who is seemingly unable to settle or stand still.

BLACKEST015 is the first vinyl pressing of music by Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement. Two long form, minimal synth / dark ambient compositions with field recordings. Sourced from a box of cassettes found at a market in Port Moresby, it was thought to be recorded by a group of Christian missionaries prior to their unexplained disappearance during the 1980s. *In a world where the genre has become ever more standardised and the rules are rarely broken, along comes a track which harks back to the early days if dubstep when experimentation was commonplace.
*Scene stalwarts in their native British Columbia, brothers and production partnership Daega Sound have taken the dubstep template and injected into it a fusion mix of electronic music DNA - 'State Of Mind' draws as much on 90s hardcore as it does techno, D&B and electro. Rushing synths introduce the track, building pressure before the sudden zero-g inertia drop of driving percussive movement and sub undulation.

Formed in 2009, Damien Dubrovnik is the Danish electronic duo of Christian Stadsgaard (Sarah's Charity) and Loke Rahbek (Sexdrome, Var, Lust For Youth), founders of the Copenhagen based record label Posh Isolation. In their day job as label managers, Stadsgaard and Rahbek have been instrumental in establishing the city's prolific and exciting noise / punk community and outgrowing their humble beginnings in noise / industrial culture by attracting a cult / fanatical worldwide following of obsessive record hoarders, hipster bloggers, depressive punks and industrial maniacs. Working together as Damien Dubrovnik, they have published work across 2 LPs, a handful of sought after cassette releases, compilations and notched up numerous performances throughout Europe and Scandinavia. Their third LP, 'First Burning Attraction', draws explicitly from DIY minimal synth traditions and the canon of European Industrial music, resulting in the strongest manifestation of their sound so far. Consisting of 6 powerful and varied tracks, the album features more of the brooding synth parts and ominous bass throbs that dominated the highlights of previous LP 'Europa Dagbog - Europa Diary', yet it feels tenser and more atmospheric due to the application of new acoustic-based sound sources, primitive bass pulses and more disciplined dynamics. Rahbek's vocals, which were previously guttural and wild, appear more restrained here giving the tracks an alluring air of ambiguity and suggestiveness - no undirected aggression, but something more thoughtful and introspective instead. *This 10' record brings together the very two rare and early eps made by these pioneering electronic musicians. Both records have not been in print since 1962. Each musician has one side each, and the artwork brings together the original sleeves (beautifully reproduced), with one side each. There is also an insert with sleevenotes.
*On Side One is Daphne Oram's first complete commercial recording and was released in the UK as part of Vera Gray's Listen, Move And Dance series. Basically this was music made for school children to throw shapes and improvise along to during drama and creative lessons. It was Vera's hope that these new and exciting sounds would lead the children into some 'imaginative situations'.
*Side Two represents and whole different country of electronic creativity, with the exceptional sounds of Dutch electronic pioneer Tom Dissevelt. A multi-instrumentalist and jazzman, Dissevelt was invited to work at the legendary Natlab (Philips Physics Laboratory) studios. There he spent time working alongside composer and theorist Dick Raaijmakers (AKA Kid Baltan) producing new electronic sounds and interpretations of popular music. This four track sampler was issued at the same time as the Oram work and its comprehensive sleevenotes hinted at the music being 'attractive', 'dizzy' and 'mysterious'. And yes, I sure dig that.

London staple Deadboy returns for the first time since 2011's HERE, releasing new four track EP 'BLAQUEWERK' on 25th March. The release is the first of a set of many to shortly be announced, joining festival Pleasure Principle to form part of our 10th anniversary in 2013.

The record's opener 'On Your Mind' sees Deadboy swapping out divas and using his own plaintive vocals for the first time, within a 7 minute late night house exploration. Perpetually building analogue snare rolls and tape fuzzed basslines marry with a tense breakdown, reminiscent of his epic 'Wish U Were Here' and an 80's touch that pushes the track into the same realms occupied by Chicago's own pioneers of dancefloor melancholia, Virgo.

'Geek'd Up' pushes raw and direct with a heavy kick and dramatic piano stabs showing just how killer House music can be with only a few simple tools. 'Black Reign', previewed on Jackmaster's Radio 1 show, experiments with the darker side of Garage - claustrophobic and nightmarish, an antidote to the recent charting hybrids. The EP's closer 'Nova' is a play on Deadboy's formative years in South London - mournful chords, tuned 808 basslines and precision crafted breaks bring to mind the pioneering sounds of early Drum & Bass producers Foul Play, with a deeper and more feminine sound.

Heterotic are a group formed from husband and wife production team Mike Paradinas and Lara Rix-Martin. Mike is the boss and founder of Planet Mu, and a celebrated producer in his own right as µ-Ziq. Their debut release is a composite of four striking instrumental tracks and four unique collaborations with Gravenhurst, the musical pen-name of Nick Talbot, who is known for his dark, folk tinged output on Warp. They were brought together by a mutual friend who sensed potential in the pairing. For both Nick and Mike, the project is something of a departure. 'Love & Devotion' displays a love of hazy, dreamy 1980s influenced electronic pop shot through with the dynamics and space of modern dance music. The lyrics describe a world that is profoundly haunted by its past. While the allusions to a key event are cloaked in ambiguity, their echoes in the present are described in visceral and magical detail. The result is an album of tightly coiled melodies cloaked in an insomniac haze, subtle harmonic shifts and strong vocal counter-melodies conveying sweeping sketches of a troubled, neon world. The LP opens with 'Bliss' - an aquatic, dreamlike instrumental that sets the scene for the record. The tempo switches up for the 4/4 piano house of 'Blue Lights', a scene of nocturnal intrigue, with an ambiguous cat and mouse narrative delivered via Gravenhurst's insistent and memorable hook. 'Wartime' opens with a kick like a heavy heartbeat, the lyrics recalling a poignant, romantic scenario that in reality is just an idealised memory, modified and projected onto a half-imagined past. 'Robo Corp' - an evocative Vangelis-like instrumental - sustains that feeling, adding a subtle tension. As the blissful synthesised choirs build in the background, 'Devotion' presents a portrait of faded glamour and unfulfilled ambition. The mood is broken by the instrumental 'Knell' in which lines of synthesised guitar and harp intertwine until the track breaks into an unexpected coda, giving a sense of resolution. 'Slumber' takes things down to stumbling pace, the drum kicks buried in echo over a muted bassline, as the lyrics describe the solitude of empty streets in the early morning when the party is over and the detritus of a night's compulsion and excess are laid bare. 'Fanfare' is a suitable denouement with echoed 808 drums, mournful synthetic horns and a bassline that sound like a flickering opiated grime instrumental, finishing the album with a sense of bittersweet triumph.

*Jouvay (Jouvert) is the Darker side of Trinidad Carnival. The inception of Jouvay coincided with the Canboulay riots where freed slaves burned cane fields in rebellion to their former slave masters. Nowadays people carry on the tradition by smearing paint, oil and mud on each other in a rowdy procession during the wee hours of the morning.
This is a hybrid that combines influences from Trinidad's Indian and African roots with hard-hitting production to create a riddim fit for Jouvay morning.

One Time was the first track Interface and LAZAbeam created together. The unique fusion of Power Soca with UK Jungle set the tone for the project which was to become JUS NOW.

Field recordings of the Mijikenda tribes, made in different spots in and around Mukunguni village, coastal Kenya, throughout September 2011: mostly healing music (especially for mental problems), but also love-songs, and spiritual contributions to weddings and burials; mostly in the Sengenya style which evolved in the early twentieth century, adding pace, new Tsikitsi rhythms and extra drums to the traditional Dumbwi forms of the Duruma tribe.Besides the Sengenya drums — bumbumbu, dahdahe, chapuro, vumi, ngoma — there are lungo and dena (metal rings), kayamba (raft rattle), njunga (bells), ukaya (metal tray), bamba (metal guiro) and bottle-tops. Our album opener is solo dena, played to sound like a bat and heal the village sick, with the ear for frequency and timbre of a stringent minimalist. There are the piercing, reeded nzumari oboe and bung'o horn, sounding like fierce free-jazz improvisation; and two gently stunning marimba solos, with complex, overlaid melodies and rhythms, played in polyphonic accents, almost like talking drums.Most of the recordings here are songs, with strong tunes, robustly delivered, different solo voices leading the group — to heal; to chase away Pepo Mlume, the devil who poisons the imagination; to get you on your feet, dancing; to celebrate dowry payments and weddings; to bring the Mijikenda cultural inheritance to life. Matatizo — 'Worries' — was recorded spontaneously at a bus-stop, waiting for a ride: it's a Swahili love-song, with a plaintive female vocal performed to the accompaniment of five or so people rubbing their palms together in tight rhythmic patterns. 'The lord conferred this love on us, my sister. Is it human, or from the angels Flowing out of binoculars... or computers I can't figure it out, but my heart aches so badly.'
The vinyl set is two ten-inch records, plus the CD, in a gatefold sleeve. Besides photos, both formats contain the musicians' own introductory notes, snatches of translation, and brief track-by-track commentary.

Phosphor were formed in London in 2011, originally consisting of Nathalie Bruno on vocals and synth, Jake Ambridge on guitar,
the duo then later teamed up with Hélène de Thoury who now is on synth and backing vocals. Heavily influenced by the likes of
Depeche Mode, Sixth June, Fever Ray, HTRK, Linear Movement, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins, PHOSPHOR have written and
produced three EPs in the past few years. Self releasing- 'Blossom/Cold Hearted', a broody, shoe-gaze soaked EP produced by
Ryan Ambridge, 'To Never Love Again', self produced and reminiscent of Siouxsie & the Banshees and Cocteau Twins, and 'FEAR',
which was voted one of the top 20 EPs of 2012 by Burning Flame. Alongside the EP's, PHOSPHOR have also produced two slow and
haunting singles - 'Numb' and 'Influx'. Their debut album 'Youth And Immortality', released by Desire, was inspired by the confusion
and desolation of living in the city, constant battles with the troubled mind and an obsession with beautifully dark sounding music.

*Part 2 of the build up to the third compilation album from Innerground features a bit of old and a bit of new in the shapes of Random Movement and Dialogue.
*Random Movement has long been a favourite of label owner, DJ Marky, and on 'Down Somehow' he shows us exactly why this is, with some vintage RM soul. A handsome male vocal adorns this funky bass roller, which perfectly epitomises the label and its ethos. It's no surprise that Calibre picked up on this to be part of his forthcoming mix for the FABRICLIVE compilation series.
*'Dialogue's B-Side 'Won't Budge' continues the dark edge that Innerground has started to show over the last few releases. This is a track conceived, born and made exclusively for the dancefloor, with a beat that feels as though you are going faster and faster and a throbbing bassline to shake the foundations of any club.

Radius Recordings boss DJ Hazard has confirmed that he's pressed two tracks used in his 'FABRICLIVE 65' mix to vinyl. The limited edition 10' vinyl (limited to 300 copies) is comprised of two of the standout tracks from the mix - a previously unreleased exclusive in Retronym's punchily aerated, techy 'They're Not Human', and Ray Keith's uplifting amen rollout 'Deeper Love'.
With relative newcomer Simeon Vambe (notable for his releases as Tyke on Grid Recordings) unveiling his Retronym alias, combined with Ray Keith's lengthy and influential legacy, the short run pressing will give fans the opportunity to own two tracks that sum up the variation and dancefloor leaning of Hazard's mix.

'Airmiles' is the track that helped Swindle enter the electronic music scene back in 2010. Given its name by Elijah on a Rinse FM radio show, and later released on 12' by Planet Mu, it has remained a center piece of his and the rest of the Butterz crew's DJ sets ever since it emerged. This redesign was inspired by the London residency the label has at super club Cable they have held since 2011. At the November event Swindle broke out a synth mid set and started playing on his early Butterz release 'Mood Swings'. 'Airmiles' was screaming out for the same treatment and after high profile releases on Deep Medi with 'Do The Jazz' and 'Forest Funk', Swindle has revisited 'Airmiles' to give it a bigger sound. The outro is a perfect balance between high energy club music and jazzy instrumentation. Only available on this limited one-sided vinyl pressing.

The lush and soulful vibes makes this song a worthy successor to Beastie Respond's debut release Syncopy. This track has received frequent radio airplay in Denmark as well as Londons Rinse.fm including dj-support from the likes of dBridge, Loxy and Blocks. In collaboration with Danish ensemble Scenatet, Jacob Kirkegaard's two pieces Labyrinthitis and Church are interpreted here using classical instruments. The intention of this transformation into an instrumental score is to explore the musical dimension and potential of the sounds that were used in creating the original works.

Church (from "4 Rooms", Touch, 2006) is originally based on ambient recordings of an abandoned church inside the radioactive zone in Chernobyl. Laybrinthitis (Touch, 2008) is a canon of otoacoustic tones generated by the artist's own ears. Like most of Kirkegaard's sound works, both pieces are characterized by a strong focus on methodology, and by the artist's wish to omit any deliberate emotional or "musical" intention.

improvisations and the crackle of unstable digital processing. The result is a skewed look into a
landscape of gentle noise and rich timbres."

The story of Bonobo is one that's become uncommon in contemporary music. There was no sudden, viral internet sensation, no one-off big hit, no abrupt, accidental alignment with the zeitgeist. Instead, over the course of four albums, myriad tours, singles, remixes and production work for other artists, he quietly but very definitely became one of the most important artists in electronic music. The hard work paid off, and culminated in 2010's 'Black Sands,' a masterful album that married Green's inimitable melodic genius and musicianship to bleeding edge electronics, bass and infectious drums.

After a year plus of touring the hypnotic, extended live versions of Black Sands, he finally found time last year to embed himself in his New York studio and write his fifth studio album. Now, in 2013, he stands ready to take things up yet another notch. 'The North Borders' is a long stride forward - both a natural evolution and a continuation of the electronic palette of Black Sands. Thematic, resonant, addictive and perfectly formed, it's a thrillingly coherent statement piece.

It's also an album that shows just how far electronic music has come. Its richness of texture, emotive force and all round depth are facets found more often within, dare we say it, classical music. If there's a renaissance taking place within this scene, Simon Green could make a strong claim to being one of its key driving forces.

As with previous albums, The North Borders features a careful balance between vocal tracks and instrumentals, ensuring that the productions themselves get room to breathe and shine. When Green discovered that he and Erykah Badu shared a mutual appreciation for each other's work, he leapt at the chance to collaborate. The resultant 'Heaven for the Sinner' is one of the album's triumphs, a transcendental, incanted vocal masterclass married to a brilliant two-step glitch and a yearning melody.

NYC folk underdog Grey Reverend appears on album opener 'First Fires,' providing a raw, emotion-laid-bare growl that sets the tone for an album that's joyously unselfconscious. Bonobo has a long history of unearthing new talent, Black Sands having launched the solo career of guest vocalist Andreya Triana. The North Borders sees him do so once again. The startling, ethereal vocals of new collaborator Szjerdene are sprinkled across the album, and Green has yet again found the perfect voice to express where he's at. 'Transits' sees her vocal weave around a garage beat that's somehow fragile and purposeful all at once, a gradually emerging hook rising from the depths of the song.

'Emkay' is a stunning example of the album's marriage of addictive, urban-inflected drums to rise-and-swell melody that never fails to move the listener. Opening single 'Cirrus' sees a clockwork-precise rhythm drive a chiming, insistent melody that builds to one of the record's great emotional climaxes. This is where Green excels, he knows how to invest electronic music with immense feeling.

The North Borders - like all great records - is an album that demands to be listened to as such, a body of work with its own internal logic, themes and narrative arc. Bonobo's abilities are at an all time high, and The North Borders everything his growing army of fans will have hoped for - a sheer delight.

Hailing from Perth, Australia, this talented and prolific producer is no stranger to the music scene. AMIT's debut release on Tempa — 'Acid Trip' — finds the UK-based producer/composer turning his hand towards two dark and deadly dubstep tracks.

'Acid Trip' has been a regular weapon in Youngsta's record bag for some time now,  and it's as confounding and intensely psychedelic as its name suggests - driven along by bounding,  Middle Eastern-influenced percussion,  grinding sub-bass and the gritty shrieks of a 303 acid line. 'Don't Forget Your Roots' nods toward its title: a skanking,  dub-infused and meditative flipside to 'Acid Trip's total freakout,  accompanied by half-sung,  half-whispered vocals from Rani.

AMIT is something of a veteran in UK electronic music,  having been releasing tracks since 2002 via labels such as Commercial Suicide,  Metalheadz and dBridge's Exit Records. He initially became renowned for his stripped back and rolling takes on drum & bass,  which melded harsh and aggressive textures with a spacious and very fluid approach to rhythm. He has released two full-length albums through Commercial Suicide,  and has also composed soundtracks for film and theatre. These two tracks on his Acid Trip 12" show off aspects of AMIT's musical personality that have run throughout his career: by turns ferocious, grounded and holistic.

A surprise for some, but also a perfect fit, Chicago Footwork don DJ Rashad releases his Hyperdub debut after long period of admiration and support from Hyperdub artists, in DJ sets and on the Hyperdub radio show on Rinse FM. These four tracks show DJ Rashad at his unpredictable best. The EP opens with the sorrowful R&B vocal cut up of 'Rollin'. It's half time drums and layered, pitch shifted vocals give way to double time 808 kicks and hi hat rushes, building up to tense arpeggiated tones. 'Let It Go' does something else entirely different; with a nod to past UK Jungle and hardcore but gradually mutating into footwork's present, it opens with a perfect recall of early jungle's mix of 160 amen breaks, euphoric diva wails and surging, ravey strings before the drums pull away, leaving a carpet of bass tones and firing 808's, the euphoria of the track kept moving over hectic drums and a frantic piano melody. 'Drums Please' featuring DJ Manny, adds a tough rush of rolling, martial snares to the morse code of clattering toms, sweet Detroit techno chords, and a siren-like tune that breaks out into the upper register, somewhere between melody and noise. 'Broken Hearted' is more familiar territory for Rashad, this time featuring long time partner DJ Spinn. Vocal lines and synths layered and chopped to gorgeous effect with half words left echoing and punctuating the stop start rhythm of the track. Following the success of their 2012 Record Store Day collaboration with the legendary Fashion Records, Nice Up! return with another two classic cuts from the vaults, remixed and refashioned for 2013! First up, East London's Wrongtom takes time out of his packed schedule to rework the massive 'Incredible' by General Levy. Universally loved, very few people know it was originally recorded as a dancehall number, then later remixed in a jungle style by M-Beat for chart success around the globe. It is a tune that has traversed genres and ages and still smashes any dance to this day. Wrongtom takes it back to the source with a fresh bumping reggae riddim featuring live instrumentation and his trademark dub fx. Over on the flip, rising star of the reggae world Mr Benn gives his spin on the modern dancehall sound with a dancefloor pleasing remix of Cutty Ranks 'As You See It'. Probably one of Cutty's lesser known tracks, this also found its home in the jungle raves of the mid '90s when sampled extensively by the producers of the day. Taking his cues from classic '90s dancehall producers such as Dave Kelly, Philip "Fatis" Burrell and Bobby Digital, this remix showcases the producer's talents perfectly. This release will form part of a full album of remixes from the Fashion back catalogue, expected later in the year.

A stunning selection of hard to find tracks that all found favour both on Italy's Afro Funky Cosmic scene and on the dancefloors of Ibiza and beyond. Lady is the new collaborative project by Terri Walker and Nicole Wray. Looking to follow in the universally fawned-over footsteps of James Blake, Mount Kimbie and Darkstar, Vondelpark unveil their debut album of lovelorn electronic pop for R&S. Unlike the aforementioned though, Lewis Rainsbury's trio barely even pay lip service to dubstep and dance music tropes: their music is old-fashioned bedsit indie with a crisp 2013 digital veneer and the occasional bold production flourish. Sometimes it really works: the jangly guitar-driven 'Quest' sounds like Aztec Camera slowed to stoner pace, but still bright and buoyant, and the minimalist future-soul sound design of 'Come On' is nothing if not seductive. In the end it kind of falls between two stools - not quite as populist and accessible as, say, Everything Everything, but not as refined or experimental as a Blake or a Kimbie. Still, they have a way with a tune and a good ear for ambience, and you can imagine this very accomplished album embedding itself in a lot of star-crossed young lovers' playlists between now and the end of summer

*'Alive' is up first. Striking up with a star-glazed synth and string hook that rises exponentially, we're soon dropped into crisp guitar hooks and smooth vocals. From spine-melting electro-soul to turbo-charged bass shock-out at the flip of a switch, it's production techniques like this that attracted Mind Vortex to us in the first place.

Peter Aldanmaz, aka NC-17 is a Drum & Bass producers based in Toronto, Canada. His namesake refers to the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).

NC-17's love of film reflects not only in the name, but equally in the music, combining both deep and techy vibes with a cinematic edge that has resulted in releases on an eclectic set of labels such as Renegade Hardware, Viper, All Sorts, Proximity, DSCI4, MAC II, SOM Music, Vampire, Big Riddim, and more.

Having now formed his own label, Grindhou5e Audio, NC-17 brings two rising producers to the forefront for the labels sophmore release following up from The Upbeats and Smooth remix package from the labels debut release. Grindhou5e 002 features Dread Recordings artist Mr. Explicit with the dark techy vibes of 'Fear No Distance'. On the flip, Ukraine's Fade brings the dark old skool vibes with 'Guerrilla Radio'.
