Dexter with a great ep full of some advance techno tracks! Being one of the regular artists on clone for the past decade this is his debut on the Clone Basement Series. Merging his trademark sharp electro and funk inspired sound with chopped up vocal snippets with a more techno-ish feel and some phat low-end as we know from dubstep for example. LOrchestre Kanaga De Mopti is one of the best West African modern orchestras which originated from a wide range of state funding. In 1977 the Malian government-owned label Mali Kunkan released a series of LPs including this holy grail of Malian music, one of the most rare and sought after records from Mali, going for over $400 (US) on ebay. Finally this timeless classic is officially available again including fully restored artwork and audio, plus in-depth liner notes about Mali and LOrchestre Kanaga De Mopti.

In the 1960s, during the First Republic of Mali, modern orchestras were encouraged and promoted by Modibo Keitas government. Starting in 1960, Bani Jazz became the city and regions main orchestra be-fore the name changed to the Orchestre Rgional de Mopti in the wake of Malis Second Republic in 1969. At the end of 1970, the band published its first album under the name Orchestre Rgional de Mopti. This record clearly helped to define Moptis vibrant cultural heritage under the aegis of bandleader Sory Bamba. Trumpet player, flautist, traveller and songwriter, Bamba already had a strong musical experience when he took over the orchestra in 1969.

Around 1976, the Mopti orchestra became the Kanaga De Mopti, and in July of that year, after months of intense musical and cultural research in Malis capital, the orchestra visited the Radio Mali recording stu-dio in order to document its new musical evolution. Six of these songs were featured on the only album of Kanaga De Mopti released in 1977 courtesy of Mali Kunkan, an ad hoc label originating from the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture. Stuck into the past but looking towards the future with its incredible mix of traditional and modern instruments, the Kanaga instantly touches and defines the highest levels of African music classicism.

Lando Kal is beat known as one half of the Bay Area neon hip-hop team Lazer Sword, but his solo tracks are freaked out juggernauts of electronic music, primarily experimenting with various mutations of house. Dense instrumentation, analogue synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90's RnB, classic house, freestyle, garage, Detroit Techno, early synthesizer music, Timbaland, and... to be honest, everything in between. These two tracks for Rush Hour Direct Current are his strongest to date. 'Maneuver' is a sure shot banger, a futuristic synth piece with heavy garage leanings and even a hint of Robin S' classic 'Show Me Love'. On the flip, Run It' is a more introverted electro-fused b-boy classic from the future.

Frijsfo Beats come with the biggest drop yet in their series of vinyl EPs compiling work from various artists. As usual it's evidently curated with a distinctive ear, tuned to wilder mutations of garage and dubstep. Volume 3 sees Geiom return, by now a label stalwart, but is largely about new blood, delivering a hefty load of talent to the roster all at once in Cardopusher, Desto and Submerse.Cardopusher will shock anyone who thinks they have him pinned down as a purveyor of jump-up tracks, albeit high quality ones. 'Then What' pulls the covers from the Venezuelan's real talent, for rugged techno soul and the kind of weighty but improbably elastic rhythm section that marks out a cannier producer. Though sharper heads will have clocked his recent album for Tigerbeat6, for sheer rewind and replay value his contribution here stands out memorably.Desto isn't the only Finnish producer to get ahead in the hype game recently, but he stakes out his territory in muscular fashion. His remix of Kuoyah's 'Convex Gravity' (released digitally last year on Frijsfo) follows two excellent twelves for Ramp Recordings. Unexpectedly but grippingly, his inner bruiser gets the cue to come out chopping and screwing: pitching juke-like drums and vocal buckshot at will and scalding the lot with something like the extra corrosive byproduct of an acid line. Geiom won't necessarily surprise fans of the rangy capabilities represented on his own Berkane Sol imprint and his Frijsfo EPs, Tone Generation being the latest to hit shelves earlier this month. He should delight plenty however, as he jams a grinding 2step beat with slippery tones and stroboscopic gating, the kind of computer madness Underground Resistance might transmit as a distress call from the nth dimension.Last but not at all least Submerse steps out for the label, arguably in overdue fashion. The hugely popular producer has inspired the diverse likes of Well Rounded, Fortified Audio, Mad Decent and Ministry of Sound all to jump on the wagon in some capacity so far. There's a strong case that 'Bubblin'' is his best tune yet, shying away from more blatant moves in favour of a gossamer touch. Low end dynamics are fully present, but beyond the subs it's all headroom, giving the merest after-impression of a summer garage anthem space to blossom.

Jan Driver has been releasing music since 1993, ehh what 1993 Yes right, today probably some of his biggest fans are born in that year hehe. Born and raised in Berlin, started to produce music with 16 years on analogue gear and ever since he's done more than 100 remixes, incl. Armand Van Helden, Laurent Garnier, Boys Noize, Faithless, Blaze, Romanthony, Afrika Bambaata and countless tracks & records.

It's fitting that this summer season sees months of Culprit planning and scheming come to fruition. A relationship that began almost four years ago, between Culprit's LA crew and Parisian native Shonky, has finally been realized, with the mercurial Frenchman stepping up for his first full Culprit release, 'Oasis'. Shonky first ventured to LA when Droog hosted him on the now defunct Terrace space at Avalon in late 2007. Since then he and Culprit founders Droog have become close cohorts, sharing the same musical wavelength, having playied together half-a-dozen times at locations ranging from Miami, Barcelona and Los Angeles. Shonky was finally introduced on the label earlier this year, when he and Dyed Soundorom collaborated on a remix of Lee Foss' 'Your Turn Girl'.

Renowned ex-Roll Deep MC Trim's unique tongue twisting style continues to grow in popularity, with new tracks in the works soon with Skream, Toddla T, Starkey and Terror Danjah. His buzz-building 'Stereotype' collaboration with Mark Pritchard drops on Planet Mu early in September, but before that, he joins the growing Butterz camp for the label's second vocal excursion, the hugely-in-demand and available now 'I Am. Revisiting TRC's 'Skipping Rope' instrumental from the first release in the Butterz White Label series, 'I Am' is Trim on a more laid back vibe then his usual 'war monger' approach, but it is one of the best things he has written so far, already strongly supported by a host of big name DJs including Logan Sama, Sinden, Benji B, and Mistajam. On the remix duties are young Birmingham producer Preditah, who has been climbing the ranks this year producing for JME and the Earth 616 label, followed by Hyperdub / Keysound residents LV, who keep up the skippy vibe of the original on their vinyl-only version. Finally, 'Notice Now' on the flip is a new Trim vocal on D.O.K.'s 'Chemical Planet' tune, which first appeared on Butterz in 2010.

Sam Walton is the 20 year old Mancunian producer behind this Hyperdub debut, an EP exploring four original experiments with the funky house sound, always keeping the emphasis on energy. 'Aggy' kicks things off by perfectly blending the raw, hard aggression of grime with the tight disciplined micro-syncopations of funky house. 'Mangled Riddim' runs a bassline that sounds like a rubber band being twanged accompanied by spacious toms and 808 kicks and claps, while '808 Vibzin's mix of swinging 808 claps and claviers with sunshine synths and xylophone sounds like classic blissed out Midwest 90s house music. 'Skrilla' on the other hand mixes tough off-beat funky drums and rhythmic stabs, simultaneously recalling grime's sparseness and the chilly toughness of Northern bleep house.

Coming off the back of his previous well received 12 "Genius of Time/Tight Genes", Gothenberg exile and current Berlin resident Cloud returns with three blinding tracks. "What You Want" is taken from the highly acclaimed Adventure album and this time around it has been remixed by rising Dutch stars Ju Ju & Jordash (Timeslip, Ropeadope and Deckmantel) who take us on a percussion driven excursion in a fluttery dubby echoey kind of way. Persistent beats build in a restless ebb and flow, the sound reverberating as though in a room full of mirrors building to an impressive crescendo before gradually fading away into the distance.

In the primordial soup that is the space often referred to as '130bpm,' there lies a lot of dull debris and dirty detritus. But amidst the scattered grey asteroids lies a small but glittering phuture-star, Damu, the newest signing to bass station Keysound Recordings. Whereas much that surrounds him is ordinary and unremarkable, Damu's quadrant is a glittering explosion of hypercolour and kinetic movement, emotive energy and playful pulsations. To enter into its proximity is, in the nicest possible way, to be irradiated by a kind of cosmic glow rays that leaves you fuzzy and warm. The source for this remarkable sound, developed over a relatively short period, is his infectious enthusiasm and unrelenting positivity. Damu's quickly picked up some high profile fans, with The Streets' Mike Skinner, when asked to guest edit an entire section of The Guardian, picked him out as a glowing example of hot new talent. Damu's also attracted plays from Night Slugs DJs and critical acclaim from F.A.C.T. and XLR8R, with an EP recently out on the Local Action label. F.A.C.T. Magazine's Tom Lea, a huge supporter of Damu, said 'Obviously I'm biased but Damu is the most promising young producer in the UK for me, and this is some of the best material he's done yet. I suppose they're dance tracks but for me it's more like big, massive pop music full of hooks, colour and emotion." With Damu now signed to Keysound Recordings, his new EP's title track 'Ridin' sounds like hypergrime grounded by crunk 808 sub drops - Damu once said he wanted to slip it to OutKasts' Big Boy at a gig. He didn't ... he should have. 'Be Free' and 'Crystal Gaea' unleash a warm, UK funky-inspired glow. 'Karolina's Magic J' is perhaps one of the oddest beasts in the realm, a trippy, woozy journey into synth-lead psychedelia.

'Gangsta' recently took on a different shape when the band made their US TV debut on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon two weeks ago, with Merrill and the band performing it with The Roots.
This 12' takes the hip-hop inspired elements of 'Gangsta' even further with remixes from legends in the field, Adrock (Beastie Boys) and Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli and DJ Shadow collaborator). Like all good old school records, the 12' is completed with not only the original but also with both the instrumental and
a cappella versions of the track.

For Alec Koone, the 20 year old, Pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in New York at the time of his first release, 'WANDER / WONDER' is a coming of age album that see's him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with.

Some may have thought the trail was cold, but Battant (Chloe Raunet and Joel Dever) have just been running as far as they can. Not running away from something, just keeping on moving. From the headless wave of their first lp, towards the strange shores of their second album, As I Ride With No Horse that is produced by it's a fine line (aka Ivan Smagghe & Tim Paris) and will be released worldwide in October 2011.

Moving up and moving on is the ever on point Modulations imprint, part of the formidable Critical Music empire. This time Kasra hauls in a duo familiar to most, a duo who've been a staple part of the D&B world for the best part of the last decade; step forward Bristol's D*Minds. 'Sub Crate' intros delicately with dark pads and a stripped back break that prep us for the badman steppa that's about to take flight. Drop dread bass is it what it's all about as D*Minds take us back in time to the early Full Cycle days with heavy kicks, reverse FX and a punching b-line that doesn't give up. Dangerous without a doubt! Drawing yet again from their heavy west country influence 'Stone River' flows nervously through a windswept cityscape with syncopated breaks, slow-rise bass and percussion fills that keep things moving in an otherwise fairly minimal slice of D*Minds artillery. Great to hear Critical bringing out something a little different from these guys.

The second and third parts of the Mountains suite nestle snugly together on pt 2 of the EP. Dissolving from the lush techno of Mountains pt 1, Rum lightens the pressure accenting the melodic motifs of pt 1 adding an almost lilting, percussively funky rhythm, only to be broken with a galloping gabba style beat washed over by his trademark string and synth blanket. However, the pressure is short lived, as once again the track gives way to a verdant and lush pasture of classic Rum ambience. Turiya on the flip pays subtle homage to Alice Coltrane by using her later adopted spiritual name. And you can hear her ethereal jazz and harp qualities evoked through his use of melody, before dropping into a broken 2-step bump with a nicely chopped up vocal. This track really brings out Rum's penchant for amazing strings once again as he drifts them in gently towards the later half of the track, creating further layers of lush melodic bliss. The illustrator on this release is the incredibly talented Matt Taylor from Brighton. We instantly fell in love with his furry and feathery skulls, and had to have them spinning around on a record. Greco-Roman welcomes a new artist to its camp: following some first appearances at the collective's local events, London-based producer Enchante will soon release his debut EP North End there, while playing the next Berlin label night this Saturday with Azari & III (DJ set) and others at Picknick. And the new material perfectly fits into the usual Greco-diversity: opening track 'Ego' offers deep UK garage, while 'Reggay' (despite its name) comes in as the finest skweee-2step we have heard in a long while.

Exit Records Presents 'Mosaic Vol 1' Sampler 2. With so much good music arriving in the Exit inbox it was decided that a various artist project was needed to ensure that it all sees the light of day and doesn't get caught up in a never ending schedule of singles. As normal with Exit Records, there's no prejudice in the track selection. Well known producers such as Skream, Instra:mental, Scuba and Commix rub shoulders with some inspiring new talents such as Indigo, Synkro, Mode and Code 3. The theme of the album is quality timeless music, whether it be a dance floor killer such as Systems 'Observation Point' or Loxy and Resounds 'Vertigo' through to the tangerine dreamlike sounds of Croms Invisible Cities' or Stray's 'Pushed', this album truly represents the more experimental side of Drum and Bass as opposed to the crash bang wollop which seems to be the only side of Drum and Bass portrayed by the mainstream media today. Hopefully this album will manage to reach the people that thought this forward thinking music was left behind in the nineties and let them know that it's still alive and well and still capable of throwing up some surprising and unpredictable results.

Nasca Records is another Austrian label currently riding high on the current wave of hi-energy drum and bass that's sweeping across the whole scene right now. For their fifth release label owners Body and Soul have locked horns with fellow countrymen Camo and Krooked and come up with something simply epic!

With a driving beat at its heart 'Sleep On It' is an urgent and utterly original piece of bass music. As with Cessa's previous productions, there's an unfathomably rich musical element - helping give them that crucial extra dimension. 'Burner' on the B, takes a future garage stance and deploys gorgeous melodic flourishes and playful samples to great effect; not to mention phonics that are to die for.

A1: Tales of Mistery
A very house feel on this one! Vocals add to the house vibe, with 808 sounds throughout. Echoed snares and evolving pads add the atmosphere. The bassline carries the track and gives off an 80's vibe. Breakdown stutters the track and groove kicks back in just at the right time!

A2: Vae Victis
Very mellow vibe to this track. A slow track, with each element taking its turn to come in throughout the intro. Nice bass line, things start moving with the hats. Very atmospheric, a cool little number!

B1: Mind Games
Cool vocal with a nice synth rhythm. Bass line takes things forwards and the percussion is well thought out, nice clicks and generally gives the track an edge!

B2: Epic
Disco house vibes on this one. Old school synth sounds backed by a deep bass line. Percussion is wicked. Long synth notes add to the atmosphere. A killer track!

B3: Dream
Fat bass line, with synth that adds an flavour of the 80's. Quiet vocals in the background along with a evolving pad sound give a cool vibe.

Mark Pritchard is a producer with countless pseudonyms, the latest being Africa Hitech for his collaboration with singer and producer Steve Spacek on Warp. Here he teams up with Trim, one of grime's most notorious and respected MCs, for this two-track twelve. On lead cut 'Stereotype', Trim asserts his disposition by twisting his riddles and vicious non-sequiteurs around Mark Pritchard's very British artful dodger rhythm, based on the kind of brass, woodwind and moogy synths you might have found accompanying some up-to-no-good action in a 1970s BBC drama.B-side 'Kiss My Arse' finds Trim ripping into rumours and revelations in his inimitable style, over a minimal lolloping dancehall-influenced rhythm complete with jungle atmospherics.
