Canadian dubstep pioneers The Konspiracy Group celebrate ten years of bass science, ambient drift and sound system thought with their fourth release and second twelve inch, 'What It's Not' by Kuma. Standing as The Konspiracy Group' firmest statement to date, 'What It's Not' is an uncompromising slab of heavily swung dubstep that sounds like nothing else rocking floors today. Strings and chimes straight out of Detroit meet one of Kuma's finest basslines to date, and a rhythm that invokes the swing of classic Zed Bias and the grime of classic No-U Turn (or should that be, Turn U-On). Carrying on the vast tradition of vocal versioning that runs back to the early days of sound system culture, TKG took Kuma's rhythm and gave it to two of their favourite voices in dance music today. After hearing his work alongside the mighty Sub Swara crew, as resident of New York's legendary Dubwar night and as a solo artist of series flex, it made sense to hand 'What It's Not' to the voice of North American dubstep, MC Juakali. Using the base of Reese bass and strings as a platform, Juakali has laid down one of his most affecting vocals yet, striking both heart and head with this distinct rallying cry. On the flip, Stockholm-born Vancouver resident Amalia takes her multi-octave range and sweeping tones straight to the heart of the rhythm, reinterpreting the tune as 'Fall', a love song not only for the dance floor, but the people you meet on it too. Sheffield's Grievous Angel is one of the few artists out there really linking the lineages of noise and industrial with UK Bass and sound system culture, so asking him to take a swing at Juakali's versioning of 'What It's Not' made perfect sense. What came back is a 2-step remix as ornery as Throbbing Gristle making acid house, as rough as a Kingston sound system rhythm and as swinging as any classic Horsepower track. This is an EP that fights against conservative thinking in electronic music, informed by the lessons of history, and looking firmly to the future, finely honed at Transition for maximum impact.

It's a hard act following Champion's Motherboard EP, but Hardrive label boss Terror Danjah has pulled the trick off with aplomb, with this revisit of one of the biggest club tracks of last year, produced by Redlight. The original version was supported across the board, from the dubstep heavyweights such as Skream, Benga, Hatcha and Plastician, to the leaders of the eclectic DJ pack like Mistajam and Toddla T. Fast forward to 2011, and Bok Bok and Royal T join the fold to give the catchy vocals an update. Butterz loyalist Royal T has been on fire with remixes this year already for Wiley, Wretch 32, Yasmin, Kano and original production for P Money and young upstarts Kozzie & Merky Ace. Bok Bok has been a lot more selective with his music, only appearing on his own Night Slugs imprint and a few other big players such as Modeselektors Monkey Town Records. Along with the original redlight production, the Mz Bratt acapella is also included for all budding producers to lay down their own remix of one of the leading female MCs in the game.

Following the huge success of XI's second release, Orca Recordings is back to deliver its highly anticipated forth instalment; this time from the highly versatile Xxxy , who has delivered two unbelievably cuts for his first 12' on the label.It has been an unbelievable year for Xxxy, with the success of 'You Always Start It' on Ten Thousand Yen capturing the attention of many of the scene's tastemakers including Mount Kimbie, Untold MJ Cole and many others. With his new outing on Orca, Xxxy's musical style has evolved considerably to incorporate a whole new set of influences and ideas, which leads us to proudly announce that the productions set to be released in the Orca series are 'You Gotta Do You' and 'Open Your Eyes'. 'You Gotta Do You' sees Xxxy venture into new sonic territory drawing influence from acid techno, continuing the creative exploration of this classic sound alongside other contemporary artists like Boddika and Blawan. The driving 808's and futuristic synth arpeggios give this all the heavy vibes of a classic Underground Resistance release with a unique modern interpretation. On the flip, 'Open Your Eyes' carries a completely different focus, taking on all the features of an early 90's jungle anthem and re-contextualizing them into 130bpm amen drivenworkout. Both of these productions are from the ethos that looking into the past for musical inspiration and to create a new breed of sound that is strong enough to smash the biggest clubs but versatile enough to please the most discerning headphone listener.

Tes La Rok's highly anticipated debut album entitled 'Them' will finally see the light of day. Tes La Rok made his name in dubstep circles in 2007 with the massive 'Round The World Girls Remix' which immediately positioned him as one of the most exciting artists and definitely one to watch. Anthem releases such as 'Under The Dancing Feet' remix for Clouds, 'Wikidness Remix' for Mungo's Hi-Fi, and 'Up In The Vip / Living Fire' on Dub Police were soon followed by bookings at DMZ in Brixton and dubstep mecca FWD>> at Plastic People. 'Them' features thirteen tracks engineered with precision and care. 'Invasion' sets the album off in a deep and minimal flavour followed by the dark and abyssal 'Earth'. The album title track 'Them' mixes techno flavours with tribal percussions and futuristic basslines. 'Murda' takes the sound back to the year 2006 which is the year when it was originally composed and luckily recovered from a destroyed hard drive! 'Virus' is a dark mutated sci-fi roller followed by 'You & I', the track that has been causing waves all over the world. Tes gives a taste of his old junglist roots on 140bpm amen roller 'Secrets' and as a follow-up tests his hands on hip hop vibes in 'Malfunction'. 'Tribal Ting' and 'Spiritual Ting' showcase the more known Tes La Rok dubwise production and his profound love to dig dub stepper sounds. 'What' and 'From The Shadows' combine deep & beautiful atmospheres with post-garage drums patterns and subheavy basslines. To bring the album to a finale and give a hint of the future, 'Turn It Up' brings in chopped vocals and raw 808 bass. Coming from the land of three months of nearly zero sunlight it is by no means a surprise that this album is deep, dark and futuristic. From the music to the artwork there's a touch of Bladerunner and Alien. These tracks are being championed by the main players such as Distance, N-Type, Kryptic, Minds, Desto, Pinch, Addison Groove and Cyrus.

Full of influences from several corners of the musical spectrum, this is everything dnb should be about: originality, dancefloor effect & depth. Stepping up on the flip, enters London's EBK. Another artist Revolution are very pleased to have on board their roster. His trademark razor sharp production skills are in full effect on 'Hybrid'. A no holds barred track that hooks us in from the first few bars. Haunting atmospheres and a thunderous b-line set the tone, as a multitude of layers weave their way in and out of the mix.

Formed last spring after a trip to LA by Lewis Rainsbury, Alex Bailey and Matt Law, Vondelpark's early work found release on the Sauna EP, a record that explored the emotional blankness of modern life - plane travel, jet lag, interaction and long distance relationships, yet crackling between Lewis' haunted voice and haunting vocal samples, Sauna was a work of precocious emotional depth and density.

Subtrakt drops the motherload with an album packed with the deepest and finest cuts of sub-driven machine step, by the masters and bringers of 1/4 step Current Value & Dean Rodell - Machine Code!!!'Environments' has more flavours than an orgy in a Ben and Jerry's factory, mixing up machine funk in a 1/4 step style with the likes of the already hailed classic 'Machine Freak' and the floor pounding 'Circadian,' blended with the deeper dub-based creepers like flat line . 'In the Shell' and 'Confessions' offer a new breed of dubstep a cross of intense techy rhythms and tight grinding bass are compiled with distant haunting pads and vocals that infiltrate and twist your neurons beyond comprehension. Last, but far from least, are the two tracks from me on the album that sum up the diversities of Machine Code's 'Environments' - 'Kjg' is a broken groove number with a growling bass stabbing at air wherever the intense kick pattern allows. This track is laced with ghostly dubby fx that loosely holds the sanity together within its most disturbing sub-existence. 'The Shadow' is the complete opposite. Slow, delicate beats produced to perfection give this monster of all bass room to drive through and collapse lungs in its wake. Ok we can do a long text here... but lets not do that.... Fantastic track by Recast (aka Fluxion)! A blissed-out track that is lush and jazzy! The experience of years of precision crafting dubby tech soundscapes is brought to these tracks, which are grooving House vibes executed in the melodic but quirky manner of Isolee or Luomo.
