Clattering amens and sinister stabs are the order of the day on the first track taken from Jaydan's immense EP for Ganja. Dropping with a stepping beat and call-and-response bass combinations 'Deception' lovingly combines everything that's great about old skool jungle with today's drum & bass. 'Original Rudeboy' heads deeper down the old skool route, sounding like a track by Rude & Deadly straight out of '95, this one will satisfy anyone who knows their D&B

'T-1000' manages to simultaneously evoke memories of raves past with its old school style riffs and dark atmospheric intro and dance floors future with its triplet skip breakdowns and titanium tough beats, alongside multi-layered bass only the biggest rigs will be able to truly handle. Flip it over and 'Learn To Fly' is a deeper, more contemplative side of Metrik's sound. Sublime Vocals, warming bass and reversed synths create a late night moment of inner city reflection.

If you haven't heard the original of this then you're in for a treat. On the A side you've got 'Clarks'. This tune is actually referring to the Somerset based shoe maker that we all know and love. The original of this track had massive success in 2010 and has been remixed into a 175bpm dancefloor destroyer. On the flip see's another collaboration between Vybz and Dirty Skank. On these two absolutely devastating tracks, Callide shows two different sides to his production skills. 'Ecstasy Rising' is a monster of a tune, that kicks of quite innocently, but drops into a half step kick snare and some mean and nasty bass, and just when you think you are safe it switches! On the flip, 'GL Allstars' is a straight up dancefloor banger that would get any self respecting raver brockin' out. Both tracks have been getting serious support from across the scene!

'Ginger Pubes' isn't for the faint hearted and shows Cookie Monsta on absolute top form with his trademark relentless bass lines and hefty switch ups. Flip it over and you get 'Blurgh!'. To call this track wonky would be a massive understatement. Cookie Monsta's synthesis on this one is so clean cut, it's as if it's jumping out of the speakers straight into the part of your brain that makes you wanna dance.

Heist and Benny Co-Lab take no prisoners as they follow up their last huge 12'' and unleash another mighty monster in the Sumo Beatz catalogue! 'Mothership' tricks you with a rolling old skool break and haunting pads before a cheeky vocal snippet heralds the impending drop. Boom! Heist's trademark tough beats and a face-pounding bassline are all that's needed to wreck the dancefloor. Kicking off with a set of rinsing drums, 'Unicron' leaves you in no doubt as to its intentions. Winding FX take you by the hand and pull you into the bass-fuelled madness that awaits. Finn People returns to the shelves after a brief hiatus with a remixes of two stand out tracks from the catalogue. '90 Seconds' is reworked by Sensai, then Micky and Erb n Dub have gone back in on 'My Dog', dropping their VIP mix. Redeyes returns to Spearhead Records Future Retro project to drop his first major 12'' since the 'Poetry In Motion' LP. Oh Please! shows the deeper side of Redeyes, dropping heavyweight subs and a rolling beat. With an increasing fanbase and tracks released on Argon, Dub Police and Roska Kicks & Snares accompanied with resident plays at London's prestigious 'Fabric' nightclub heat is steadily rising around the Kent-based selector.

The phrase 'tropical' is currently getting used to describe a lot of different music; some good, some bad, some ugly. To save on confusion Senseless went out and travelled the world to find some music from the actual tropics, Venezuela to be precise. Somewhere buried deep in the mysterious rainforest, or possibly just in a studio in Caracas, they found Pocz and Pacheko. It's so near the equator maybe we can ditch the 'tropical bass' tag and go for something new, 'equatorial bass' perhaps~ Maybe not. Pacheko, Francisco Mejia, will be familiar to some for his solo releases on Lo Dubs, Murder Channel, Seclusiasis and for his work with legendary Venezualan expat Cardopusher. His partner in bass Pocz (Carlos Majoral) is a classically trained musician and production engineer. Along with a select few others they run Abstractor, a collective of producers, artists and designers, who promote parties, run a blog and do a fine job of representing bass music in Venezuela pretty much solo. The collective includes graphic artist Design or Die who is responsible for the incredible artwork and pretty special video for 'Zarbak'. Together by day Pocz and Pacheko run a sound design studio in the rum fuelled pressure cooker of political and social unrest that is Caracas. Their training in high-end audio engineering is evident in the quality and weight of the production. Nights are spent in the tropical heat cooking up beats. Over the years an audio diet that includes salsa, merengue, reggaeton and other local music mixed with old jungle tapes, Rinse FM sets and lots of dub has helped them to build a unique and captivating sound that combines all those things.
The spirit of hardcore, jungle and garage from the UK are all evident from the UK Funky rhythms and rumbling sub bass in 'Zarbak' to the melancholy melodic refrains of 'Dorado' but there's something else there too. There's something tribal in the drums that taps into a deep history of Latin American percussive rhythms and adds a dimension that is clearly their own. If UK bass is about the energy and pressure of the city at night then Caracas bass about the point where the intensity of the city meets the wide open space of the jungle, the beach and the mountains under a carpet of stars. Put the needle on the record, close your eyes and imagine it. Also, there's remixes from Brackles (Blunted Robots/Planet Mu) and Mr Gasparov (Soul Jazz).

Inneractive label goes from strength to strength as S.P.Y releases his debut on the label. Deep, heavy and rolling Drum & Bass just the way it's supposed to be made! S.P.Y is fresh from releases on Soul:r and a massive remix collab with Marky on Jakes & TC's smasher 'Swerve', watch out for this boy!!

Shortstuff dribbled this EP out of his arse. It took him 12 months - he worried about everything, accomplished nothing, and then called it something stupid. By the end of the process, everybody at RAMP wanted to die. The end result is a 6 track EP, released on 3 separate 10' throughout August, with the whole EP coming out digitally on the 30th with bonus digital only track 'Naughty Step'. Survival and Christina Nicola deliver 'Hand it Over', their third collaboration in as many singles.
