We are proud to announce the forthcoming release by Thomas Ankersmit of his concert performed in Utrecht late in 2007. Here is some info about Thomas, who has no other solo CDs available at this time... in fact, Live in Utrecht is his first official CD album release.

Thomas Ankersmit is a 30 year old saxophonist, electronic musician and installation artist born and raised in the Netherlands and now primarily based in Berlin who combines abstract, intensely focused saxophone playing with hyper-kinetic analogue synth and computer improvisation. He also creates installation pieces that use sound, infrasound and "modifications to the acoustic characters of spaces" that disrupt the viewer/listener's perception of the exhibition space and their presence within it. He frequently works together with New York minimalist Phill Niblock and Sicilian electroacoustic improviser Valerio Tricoli, and other collaborators, mostly for live performances, have included Tony Conrad, Maryanne Amacher, Jim O'Rourke, Kevin Drumm and Borbetomagus.

Arp 101 is the last of the class Spirals with Elliptical Galaxy Companions on Arms. Both galaxies are in the UGC catalog, the spiral as UGC 10169 and the elliptical as UGC 10164. This is a field full of tiny background galaxies.

FD, Script & Keza Their tracks are receiving support from the likes of Alix Perez, Icicle and Marcus Intalex. With this release ready to drop on Total Science's CIA Deepkut The A Side 'White Horse' has become Doc Scott set opener.

The "Environmental Radiation Dose on the Moon" EP is the first collaboration between Zooloft and Aconito records. The two labels are twinned in exploring the limits of techno, experimenting with structures and sequences and ultimately arriving at the place where the deep and dark sublimes. The EP opens with "The Child That Was Watching The Moon" a track lifted right out of the drone-techno hymnal. It starts with muddied, subterranean bass and builds not just outwards but inwards. Filled with obtuse references and metallic rasps the atmosphere created is obscure and spectral. On the reverse "The Moon That Was Watching The Child" sounds like it's been exposed to radiation. The sounds are distorted, as if created from samples of the genome unzipping. The arrangement is stunning, bells filter in and out and the layers smelt into one another. There is awe at work here, but it's an awe that remains underpinned by terror. This release, mastered in Berlin at the legendary Calyx studio, is something of a record collector's dream. It will be released on solid silver vinyl in a very limited edition of just 200 copies. ZA000LTD should be enjoyed on wax, this won't be available digitally.

Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts has been unstoppable over the past three years. Since his debut album, Face À L'Est, on Montreal's Musique Risquée label in 2007, the Montreal-born Berliner has released a steady stream of EPs, remixes and compilation tracks for Circus Company, Musique Risquée, Oslo, Cocoon and many more.

The debut single from Herma Puma - the transatlantic hip hop production duo consisting of Simple X (USA) and Pimpernel Jones (UK). Having met through a shared love of golden era hip hop and dusty library music records, they crafted their debut album Synchromystic over the internet.

Disposable Rappers features vocals from Simple X's fellow Chicago native Sensei Of Soul, dropping J5 style flows over a club-friendly funk break-fuelled beat. On the flip Psyche Out is exactly what it says on the tin - a trippy DJ Format-esque break track - again perfect for the dancefloor.

On this new limited 7inch vinyl and digital release Equinox Records introduces Andreikelos from Greece to the label's artist roster. Mediterranean sound meets electro as the traditional Greek organ bouzouki smoothly flows over an abstract hip-hop beat alongside violins and synths, all blended with an MPC 2500 accompanied by two Technics 1200s.

The philosophy of '(Call For) The Last Stand' is all about unity even when there is no hope spotted nearby. Though fighting for your rights and beliefs until the last breath can lead to what the ancient Spartans called 'The ultimate glory', you never know how the final battle will end and who will be the last man standing.

Leaving these Greek affairs behind, Earthkeptwarm (who already provided us his great remix of 2econd Class Citizen's 'Step Inside') adds some UK flavour to the tune. The wobbling bass of his striking dubstep remix is giving the track a completely new feel and makes this release a useful tool for djs as well.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS RECORDING:

Another total quality double sider, this time recorded by Claude Huey and taken from the Fantasy-owned Galaxy label out of San Francisco. "Why Would You Blow It" has been in major demand for some time, not surprising given the easy, laid-back dancefloor appeal - it's a mid-tempo Northern mover sure to put a smile on the face of every dancer in the room. The flip side "Drifting" meanwhile, is held in equal esteem amongst aficionados of Heartbreak soul. A deep-soul ballad of the down and out, no-hope variety, the song contrasts beautifully with the breezy feel of "...Blow It".

The original 45 is a pretty tough one to find, and even then there is major interest and competition, given the broad appeal of "Why Would You Blow It", a song which would sound at home in a Northern, Crossover and perhaps even a Funk set. The price and demand is only going to rise, making this a very timely reissue indeed.

Chronos Records....What can we say~! They've just rounded up the filthiest up and coming producers and have left everyone listening's jaw drop like a fat tune on the dance floor! Their ever expanding of artist roster is growing into a bit of an army! From what we've heard from the two lads who are running it, they are confirming some amazing producers from all around the world!

Just when you thought it was safe to sink in to your Smokin Sessions new comfort zone, we would like to present another new talent that goes by the name of DJ Rum. His music is deep and jazzy influenced with a sprinkle of Techno added to the mix to give this bright young spark an absolute unique and fresh flavor that we have been very inspired by.
It is rare to get a track at 8 minutes and you don't want to flick through, but DJ Rum has really managed to keep it interesting throughout the journey of this track."Emerald" is also just as interesting to hear with a darker edge.

For their first releases mighty remixes come from local and International King Pins Jamie Lloyd (Future Classic), Tal M Klein (Aniligital) and Diesler (Tru Thoughts/Freestyle), which are all set on a course for dance floor destruction.

Exclusively released on vinyl, the new edition of the long-awaited Dragon War finally arrived. Remix dub of some title of the album 'Hebron Gate', this fourth album of Groundation is a rare and precious pearl for all the dub lovers. Considered the best group in the current reggae scene, these Californian virtuosos view music as a means of communication. Above all, they are jazz musicians. Their training does not cease to evolve, and their musical theory is rich and allows them to play complex arrangements with the utmost precision. Harrison Stafford, the group's pillar, singer, and composer, is a highly inspired person. His authenticity and his wisdom gave him the respect for the former or elders, Jamaicans, Americans and English. Many had already collaborated with Groundation (Cédric Myton, Don Carlos, Apple Gabriel, Short Michael, Marcia Higgs, Pablo Moses, I Jahman).

For our 24th release we wanted to go back to our classic Funk Weapons roots, and to do that we bring you Mash & Munkee aka David Hanke & Kolja Starkowski from Germany. They have produced three slices of supreme nu-funk goodness for all you break beat loving freaks. First off we start with 'Work it Out', a full on funk fest of horns, funky bass, and enough cracking break-beats to satisfy the nimblest of b-boys. 'Giving you the Funk' does just that, complete with a jumping live bass-line, building horns and hip hop vocals and groove that eventually builds up to a nice fat synth bass-line that takes the track to the next level. 'Make A Difference' gets all Ron Burgundy on us with some funky flute and smooth blaxplotation style horns and of course another funky bass-line to keep the kids body rocking. Finally we round out the package with Neighbour's remix of 'Make a Difference', who remixes the track in his signature future-boogie style, complete with honking bass-line and smooth chords and injects back in the horns and flute to make the whole thing jam perfect for those late night roller-disco vibes.

Mock & Toof return with the second single from their stunning debut album Tuning Echoes. This double A-side release is a nice reflection of what to expect on the LP as it features contributions from both vocalists Pollyester & Gavin Gordon. The sublime Suppress Your Feelings is on an eco-conscious electro-pop/kraut-rock tip while Shoeshine Boogie does what it says on the tin with some chuggy boogie chops. This release also features the brand new vinyl-only track Live At Alipali which has been picking up enthusiastic support from the likes of Todd Terje, The Revenge, Jacques Renault & Eric D.

Remixes come from disco don Ray Mang & Studios mega talented Dan Lissvik who both deliver fantastic interpretations.

As honorable heirs of the 60's & 70's Soul Funk movement, the Shaolin Temple Defenders stay true to this tradition while extending their influences towards current musical moods. The band has been touring for 5 years: Montreal International Jazz Festival, Francofolies of La Rochelle, Bobital festival, Italian Tours, Switzerland, Olympia Bruno Coquatrix opening for Sly & The Family Stone... BACKGROUND

Nothing much has changed since "Away with the Melancholy", the first album recorded by NYB. It sold out everywhere, quickly, and much was said about the band, much of it rumour and conjecture. They have yet to perform live, and they still refuse to do interviews. We put out their records and we still haven't even met face to face!

Of course what really matters is whether or not they make good music. Here's a single that's taken from their new album, "Tuck in with the Natural Yogurt Band", which will be out in the autumn. Let your ears decide!

Hole In The Sky is proud to present Tortoiseshell. This musical squad of dudes, brothers and cousins ride the sunny currents of Talking Heads, ESG, afro pop, the 80s, Howard Arkley, Roxy Music et al. They will take you to crystal, clear turquoise waters. As smart casual agents of new age song, the shells' pop manifesto is enshrined on their debut single "This Girl".
