What matters is the Aquasky crew have designed two storming cuts to make the ladies bounce and the fellas break as the lights flicker and the speakers shake!

New Haven songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/rapper Ceschi Ramos (pronounced chess-key) and Berlin producer DJ Scientist initially connected around 2005 over a mutual adoration of rare 60s/70s psychedelic, prog and folk rock as well as 90s hip hop. On their first record together, 'The One Man Band Broke Up', both gentlemen evoke their influences creating a completely original sounding, melodic, dark and unabashedly progressive hip hop concept album.

Based around the ever revisited topic of the rise and fall of a musician, in this case one named Julius and The Bearded Saviour, 'The One Man Band Broke Up' is as much about Ceschi's own fear of failure as it is about personal experiences in a dog eat dog music industry. As Ceschi's voice moves from meticulous almost mathematical rhythms to aggressive nearly punk howling to scat like rhymes, Scientist layers epic montages of samples, dynamic drums, along with chopped live instruments to compliment the diversity of styles. The album even slides in two of Ceschi's acoustic based tunes complete with violins, banjos and ukuleles. Friends including Sole, Astronautalis, Radical Face (of Electric President), 2econd Class Citizen, Cars & Trains and MiC K!NG also contribute instrumentation and vocals. The combined outcome is a post -modern hip hop project unlike anything else the two musicians have previously released.

It's been four years since Cesch''s last album 'They Hate Francisco False' slowly but surely gathered a following around the world because of its honest and unique blend of left field hip hop and indie folk. During that recording hiatus Ceschi relentlessly toured the US, Canada, Europe and Japan with independent hip hop heroes such as Myka 9 (of Freestyle Fellowship), Awol One, Sole and Onry Ozzborn all while starting his own successful record label, Fake Four Inc., and recording his latest album with Equinox Records' founder DJ Scientist.

However you take in this music - it is undeniable that 'The One Man Band Broke Up' is a powerful new album coming from an indie hip hop world that has largely become stagnant and safe. This record isn't afraid of its own intelligence, technicality and sincerity.

Since its formation in 2004, Bristol based Multiverse has been one of the key creative studios for developing the city's flourishing culture of forward thinking electronic music. Through their network of labels which includes Tectonic, Kapsize, Earwax, Caravan and Build the work of the studio has focussed on exploring the uncharted spaces between genres, bridging together today's cutting edge sonic possibilities with electronic music's rich and diverse musical history. Excavated is the second solo release from London-based veteran DJ/Producer Aupheus, who honed his skills with London-based hip hop crew Dedfires until 2006, when he released his critically acclaimed self-released solo EP Descent: "As a producer of heavyweight instrumentals he can't be beaten" HHC.

He has strong connections with the Sage Francis helmed Strange Famous Records; winning the heavily contested Buck 65 Shutterbuggin' remix competition in 2007 and continuing to produce tracks for Buck 65 (for the 'Dirtbike' album trilogy) and Sage Francis ('Sea Legs') last year.

Over Excavated's 8 tracks Aupheus unearths found sounds, obscure vinyl breaks and field recordings which he then manipulates through sampling and turntable techniques, adding live instrumentation. The result is an immersive, multi-layered merging of traditional world and ethnic influences with heavy electronic drones and tones, ambient textures and crunchy hip hop beats. Favourable comparisons can be drawn with other independent heavy instrumental hip-hop artists such as Sixtoo and DJ Signify as well as more ambient releases by labels such as Type Records.

The Excavated EP will continue 2600 Recordings' limited 7" (250 copies) and full EP download series, with hand-numbered and hand-stamped bespoke papyrus packaging. All artwork will be created by

Aupheus himself, reflecting the intricate aesthetics found on his website and previous releases. The 7" will feature edited versions of the tracks 'Insectoid' and 'Frozen Surface', with a download code available to obtain the full EP.

A whirlwind of controversy surrounds the talent of Borgore and its not hard to understand why. You could describe him as the marmite of Dubstep! A snapshot of the champeta sound that developed from the soundsystem culture of Colombian towns Baranquilla and Cartagena. The result of DJs mixing imported African and Carribean creole with homegrown Colombian sounds was a re-awakening for local groups who went on to produce new recordings morphing African rhythms into a highly danceable form of modern Colombian music.

On the Edge have been on form of late and have had some cracking releases. The DFRNT album late 2009 was arguably one of the best albums to surface from the Dubstep scene that year and crossed into paths some Dubstep artists have never entered. A well-placed RnB reissue which cheekily pairs 2 of the gems from Maybelle's '50s recordings for the Okeh label.

'I've Got a Feelin' has been sought after on the mod scene for a good while and proven really rather difficult to track down, especially on its 45rpm format. With fantastic latin accented congas, swinging horn patterns and Maybelle's dread-drenched vocals delivering a strong sense of foreboding, this is one of those tracks that really cuts through genre and scene fetishism and stands alone as a bloody brilliant record!

On the other side we have 'Ocean of Tears', one of Maybelle's more widely recognized sides and a true Rhythm and Blues masterpiece. A deep gospel feel is off-set by a really swinging rhythm and great horn parts, whilst Maybelle's immense, gut-wrenching vocal is the Blues encapsulated.

"Testify" is the second single taken from Boohgaloo Zoo's stunning self-titled debut album. U-Gene goes all out on the vocals while the bassline and synth stabs are clearly in the business of tearing roofs off suckers. Heavy 21st century funk!

The remixes make sure that those who like to shake their behinds to something more up-tempo get with the program as well - Soulphiction goes to work on the track not once but twice in a full-on boogie mix and one that is more on the minimal side, while Hot Chip's Joe Goddard takes it to very late night club territories.

Boohgaloo Zoo are K'bonus and U-Gene, two veterans of the Belgian and Dutch music scenes respectively. After meeting at the 10 Days Off festival in Ghent the duo started sending each other beats and tracks and soon enough a full album was in the making. K'bonus' beats and samples and U-Gene's vocals and keys are a match made in heaven, resulting in tunes reminiscent of Amp Fiddler, Chromeo, Arthur Russell and Funkadelic. All at the same time

It's our 7th release on the Jukebox Jam label, so we thought it was about time to throw you a curve ball with something truly interesting and unique. Back to back on one 45 are the 2 best sides from the 2 super hard to find singles accredited to the mysterious Marga Benitez, a calypso singing 'exotic dancer' originally from the Caribbean who first made her way to a studio in 1954 with vocal group the Mello Tones. The label artwork for this reissue, incidentally, features an illustration of the lady herself, in full shake 'n' maraca mode!

The top side here features the potent and intoxicating concoction that is 'Geechie Goomie', a record unlike any other we've ever heard like of. The slinky, seductive tones of Ms Benitez and her whacked out lyrics sit alongside an almost clunky exotic piano-led accompaniment and some oddly sinister backing vocals from the Mello-Tones to create a wonderful record which was perhaps always destined to find its audience in another time and place.

The B-side features the prize of the earlier session for Decca Records, 'Wino's on Parade', a curious one-off oddity which should definitely appeal further to fans of the weird and wonderful with its unique blend of calypso vocals, quirky story-telling lyrics and doo-wop backing vox.

Both singles dually flopped on original release and whilst 'Geechie Goomie' has had a small but dedicated following on the Belgian popcorn scene for a while, we anticipate that with this limited run 45rpm reissue the time and place for Marga Benitez's indisputably unique charms has finally arrived!

Following up their critic ally-acclaimed Red Letter LP, Digital and Outrage link up for Outrage's Backlash Records with 'Eclipse', a dub-soaked number to start 2010 proper! Lead by a thumping kick, this one is a dub-lovers dream, flowing with loads of effects, echo and perfectly timed ragga vocals. There's a lot of space in this one, allowing the elements to breathe, and the atmospherics feel like the soundtrack to the moon overtaking the sun. On the flip, Outrage's 'K Zero 9' finally makes it way to the record bins. This one has been tearing things down in its slow-burning venom, and is the perfect lick to get the party started, or send a ready crowd into a frenzy with its hypnotic bass. The two tracks selected for the release: 'Basic Music Knowlege' & 'Hunger' operate in the musical middle ground between the darkly swung garage of El-B and the dubstep pioneers, and the submerged techno sound of STL and New World Aquarium.
