Tempa091 is a two-track collaborative 12 by Wen and Parris, featuring dramatic rollers 'Caught' and 'Collide'. Parris is the founder of rising label Soundman Chronicles, while the past year has found Wen exploring his own idiosyncratic, haunted visions of grime and dubstep.

Their debut for Tempa, it follows on from their collaborative track 'Time' earlier this year, which featured on Wen's acclaimed Signals album for Keysound. These two new tracks find them plunging still deeper into sparse, sensuous territory.

Shifting away from the harder angles and subtle garage flex of Wen's album, both 'Caught' and 'Collide' - which are regulars in the record bag of DJs such as Youngsta - heighten the atmosphere to near breaking extent.
'Caught' is all abrupt percussive tics, flickering melodies and snippets of voice that cut through the air, while the rhythms underneath reshape themselves in real-time, switching from grime's staccato bass blasts to sinuous, sidewinding grooves. 'Collide' is even more exquisitely fluid, with its drums and distant melodies swimming though a backdrop that's somehow monolithic and tantalisingly fragile at once.

The veil is torn once again and ANDHORD are back with their first EP after three years sunk in the loudest silence. Pleroma of Uncreation is a sophisticated triad which will feast upon the blind and rejoice with those whose eyes are open. Django Django is the latest band invited to curate a prestigious Late Night Tales collection set for release in May 2014. For 2014s RSD we have made their exclusive Late Night Tales cover version of The Monkees 1968 cult classic 'Porpoise Song', The psychedelic coloured vinyl 7" is backed by actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who exclusively narrates the fourth and final part of the "Flat Of Angles" tale.

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Texas, formed of Laura Lee on Bass, Mark Speer on Guitar, and Donald Johnson on Drums. Mark and DJ's roots are in R&B, Hip Hop, and Gospel having played within the same gospel band for years. Both professional musicians, Mark began teaching Laura how to play bass in the summer of 2009. As such, Laura quickly developed a huge passion for the instrument and the aesthetic it brought to music she loved. Having worked studiously on developing her skills, both Mark and Laura were invited to tour with Ninja Tune's, YPPAH, supporting Bonobo across his 2010 American tour.


The tour galvanised the two of them to start making music together more seriously, sowing the first seeds of Khruangbin. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - Khruangbin literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - the two took a trip to a barn deep in the Texas countryside and jammed for the entire weekend, developing a sound which was steeped the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration. Khruangbin was formed, with D.J. the natural go to for drums. Having kept in touch with Bonobo following that earlier 2010 tour, Bonobo decided to include Khruangbin's 'A Calf Born In Winter' on his recent 'Late Night Tales' compilation. In addition to increasing the already considerable Stateside following the band has built, the release has helped Khruangbin in topping both the US & UK 'Last FM' fastest growing artists whilst 'A Calf Born In Winter'
continues to be one of the most popular downloads of the compilation.

*The mysterious Nomine's debut 12" for Tempa takes dubstep into altogether more tropical territories. The fluid textures and east Asian melodies of its two tracks conjure up images of a future London fried by global warming, where rising sea levels are sinking the city below the waves.
*'Searching' opens with chimes like drops falling on water, before being consumed by an oily sea of sub-bass. Metallic, syncopated percussion slides across the surface, propelling the track forward. On 'Nomine's Sound' the bass lands in pulses, building in intensity before falling away again, while disembodied voices sing in the distance.

*Although only having previously released his debut, the Jahpan EP via Dubzilla Recordings, in June this year, Nomine's tracks have swiftly become staples in the record bags of scene figureheads like Youngsta and J. Kenzo. It's not hard to tell why: although they're ethereal and drenched in melody, there's a physical pressure to these tracks that's primed to swallow a dancefloor whole. Ltd Edition 300 copy 10' press with illustrated collectable comic strip series 'The Phantoms inside me are beginning to win...' And so, 7 years after it's original release Equinox's legendary darkside classic 'The Phantoms' resurfaces, this time with a distinctly more oldskool feel after some studio treatment from fellow breakbeat protagonist Nebula. Opening with some stark atmospherics and a subdued voice telling of a dreamed communication, a bubbling bass builds the tension thicker still before it's suddenly released by a metallic break that will be familiar to fans of the original tune. This is Jungle, 2012 style! On the flip side, crystalline pad sweeps and a rolling drumline make for a calm prelude to the barrage of chopped beats and the urgent bassline that follows. Different breaks and percussives drop in and out, sometimes tangling to create intense whirlwinds of rhythm. The track changes direction with the introduction of a searching synth combined with some drifting atmospherics which make this another trip for the imagination.

Plod starts with the distant echo of machinery and comes into focus via the inner workings represented by the 2 step break, over laced with vocal snippets, a nervous laugh, ethereal trains and sweeps of a ghostly subway. This works its way into layers of bass and a long forgotten sound.

An awakening via Jagganath where a car alarm arrests slumber and heralds tribal drums in a distant valley. Electricity pulses and the rhythm steps up a gear, a door slides open and reveals shards of light, before the electronic sparseness resumes.

4th System continues to tread the experimental, deep dub path. A constant #ow is punctuated by !ltered drums a warm sub, cymbal shards and a wood block. A ghostly orchestra #oat in underneath a waterfall with some spiced rum, sunny delight and join the party.

Kaspi & Stride is a new project from Justin Tripp, best known as one half of the Georgia equation. Leanings has its origins in rigorous yet laid back studio sessions, dual personal practice sensibilities that seem to get at Tripp’s creative ethos as well as any descriptors might. The material here was born out of collaborative studio sessions with multi-instrumentalist Jimy Seitang (Conga Square/Stygian Stride) - the “Stride” of K&S. The music from these sessions has been reworked and recontextualized by Tripp to form the eight tracks found on the record. These compositions are heady and diverse, anchored by infectious drum patterns and intricate electronics, capably occupying a somewhat hard to define space between “club ready” and “home listening.”

“Vishing” throbs with a wide-eyed intensity, infused with the type of deceptively rudimentary synth stabs and bass swells that wouldn’t be out of place on an early Hype Williams record. With contributions from Mary Lattimore and Jon Leland, “Kaptoxa” charts a more ethereal, if no less dizzying, course. Indeed, this is an album that navigates dense, tactile passages and airy, celestial planes with aplomb, making a case for Tripp’s prowess as both composer and arranger with equal priority. The most important thing is to keep moving.

Gato Negro is the final album by the American punk rock band 7 Year Bitch. The band, which was active between 1990 and 1997, released the album in 1996 on a major label. It’s got the heavy and slow bass lines, fuzzy guitar and the angry vocals by band member Selene Vigil for which they are known. They were edgy and fierce, as showcased on most of the tracks on the record. Gato Negro spawned three singles: “The History Of My Future,” “24,900 Miles Per Hour” and “Miss Understood”. Some songs even got melodies of the grunge sound of the ‘90s, while the album is still punk dominated.

Gato Negro is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on moss green vinyl.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, ABBA’s Voulez-Vous will receive a multi-format reissue on 14 June. The album that saw the band say goodbye to the decade they dominated with style, Voulez-Vous was their fifth consecutive No.1 in Sweden, a chart-topper around Europe and a US Top 20 album. Powered by classic singles, including the title track, and ‘Chiquitita’, Voulez-Vous was at the heart of one of the groups most successful years to date. Marking one of the longest gaps between new albums, Voulez-Vous was recorded across an entire year, with Benny and Björn refining their precision song writing, and Agnetha and Anni-Frid providing some of their finest vocals across a diverse set of songs that ranged from contemporary disco classics to ballads that explored Sweden’s rich musical past.

Hallelujah Mystic Garden Part Two contains a new deep-pocket groove disco version of fan favorite "Pink Lady Lemonade". The Entertainer is Alex Twomey’s first album since 2012. Many have been waiting and, finally, here we are! During the silence, Twomey’s keyboard work has germinated into a more framed compositional structure, beaming with orchestral strings, woodwinds, and brass. Eleven cinematic settings and bouncing refrains mark this LP. Alex describes the album as, “vignettes alluding to a vague narrative regarding one’s idea as an artist.” A somber beauty is penned.

Alex previously recorded as Mirror to Mirror, and operated the record label Jugular Forest from 2004-2012. I first met him in 2010 during a large concert in Santa Cruz, CA. Alongside Twomey, myself, Kyle Parker (Infinite Body), Matthew Sullivan (Earn), Pedestrian Deposit, Mike Pollard, and Peter Friel performed that night. Alex’s performance was a thick ocean of chords, a penetrating grace that I can still recall. Everyone has since bloomed from the ambient roots of that time in their own way. Alex has held onto utilizing the keyboard, albeit as a tool to build a larger musical world. A legend to the map.

On this album the melodies dance as twinkling bulbs along a retired parade float. A dark comedy, a tragic smile. Love found in the rough of it all. Twomey is currently studying composition at Occidental College in Los Angeles.

Originally pressed in a limited run of 1000 numbered copies in December 1974 The Alice Island Band is one of the rarest UK folk private pressings, having sold in auction for over 600 pounds. Little would school friends Keith Hughes, Tim Phillips and Roger Moore imagine that when they formed The Conqueroos blues band back and subsequent projects like Cinderella's Party Songbook from 1967.



By 1974, Keith, Tim and Roger were ready for something special, and the arrival of Cinny - the ‘Princess’ from the principality of Wales - completed the line up for the next LP. They became The Alice Island Band and recorded Splendid Isolation - Tim, Keith and Cinny played, Roger produced and recorded the 14 songs, some of which had been conceived back in 1968.



For those into the UK folk and psych scenes who love the homemade recordings of Peter Howell and John Ferdinando's projects (Tomorrow Come Someday, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Agincourt, Ithaca...), the bare, raw sound of Comus or those impossibly rare folk albums cut through the Deroy Sound Services – but also for lovers of good crafted songs with male & female vocals and mostly acoustic performances.



Done in close cooperation with Keith and Roger who have been very kind to provide original masters, information and photos for the gatefold insert which also includes the original lyrics – here are 500 copies for those who cannot afford or find an original copy. In 1971 he moved to Hamburg, Germany, and worked in the boiling experimental scene of the city. As a result, two LPs were issued on Polydor in 1971 and 1972, right before forming Slap Happy with old school pal Peter Blegvad and Dagmar Krause.



"Pieces From a Cloudland Ballroom" is the first of those early solo LPs by Moore on Polydor. It was released in 1971 under the production of Uwe Nettlebeck and featured Anthony Moore on conduction, Ulf Kenklies, Glyn Davenport and Gieske Hof-Helmers on vocals, plus Werner 'Zappa' Diermeier on hi-hat.



Pure minimalist experimentation with echoes of Richard Young's "Advent" or even Moondog, done just a month after Faust (who included Werner 'Zappa' Diermeier) recorded their first LP. The missing link between British "art-rock" and the German "krautrock" scenes!

Astral Colonels are Anthony Pateras and Valerio Tricoli and this is their second album: On side A (The Difference Of Similarity) the formidable use of a sound arsenal based primarly on prepared piano and tapes and a bright use of echo and repetition create winding tensions grafted into harmonics, irregular spiral-shaped non-progressions intertwining costantly on the ridge between the familiar and the unknown, a recurring alternation of stasis and fibrillation that delivers listeners to a thrilling, eventful audio experience. Side B (The Similarity Of Difference) is more focused on the piano that here sounds just like an elegantly lame carillon able to take us in a charming journey dappled by only apparently discreet electroacustic whiz and burst.

Often hailed as one the hard psych masterpieces to come out from Spain in the early 70's, "The Beginning Of The End" was the vinyl debut of Atila, a trio formed in 1973 by Eduardo Niebla -guitar- Joan Punyet -drums- and Francisco Ortega -keyboards. Originally released in 1975 by the obscure New Promotion label in a alledged tiny pressing of 100 copies the album has reached "monster" status between die-hard collectors worldwide, sometimes reaching the 1000€ tag.

INTENCIÓN, the sensational second LP recorded by Atila, has never fetched the high amounts their debut album THE BEGINNING OF THE END (Wah Wah LPS022) does exchange hands for in the collectors’ market, but it is still a mega rare LP hardly seen below the 400 euros tag, and is considered by many to be better than their previous output.



At the time of recording this album, the band was already considered one of the top stage acts from Spain, which led to their signing for the BASF label, where they were had access to a better production, which not only resulted in a better sound but also in a much more visually attractive full colour gatefold sleeve, which the Wah Wah reissue will reproduce to perfection and outgrade to a gorgeous 8 page booklet full of info on the band.



Originally issued in 1976, INTENCIÓN is the perfect follow–up to THE BEGINNING OF THE END, with Atila offering further pieces led by the strong guitar licks of Eduardo Niebla, Benet Nogué’s organ & Moog, and Joan Punyet’s drums melting in top progressive freakouts, plus the addition of wordless vocal parts and even some catalan sung parts, besides adding a symphonic edge to the general sound. Side A offers three killer tracks in that vein, while B side is a new recording of the bands’ signature theme EL PRINCIPIO DEL FIN, with updated overtones, Moog passages and a much better recorded sound than the one appearing on their debut LP.

Barbara Proksch (born 1943 in Berlin, living in Salching, Lower Bavaria) is a German visual artist. After having studied Lettering and Illustration, she first worked in graphic design and theatrical painting before in 1982 deciding to become a freelance artist, concerning herself mainly with drawing. Her works are characterized by her long lasting fascination for letters and geometrical figures and often incorporate signs, characters and writing as well as calligraphic elements. Another thread of influence stems from her background in theatrical painting: the physical aspects and the body language of painting which come to the fore when working on huge canvas with large brushes and litres of paint. From the beginning, a further aspect has drawn her attention, namely the sounds that occur while drawing and writing, and the way they influence the resulting work. She noticed that the sounds made by the tools she uses feed back into her drawing process, and that just like speech and writing – in a linguistic sense – cannot be decoupled from each other, drawing and listening cannot either: Eye and ear become partners, drawing becomes a performance with the specific tools and materials used as musical instruments.

This observation has led to the development of her group of works called OPTO_PHON, a name which, from the 1990s onwards, Proksch uses for performances that draw upon this synaesthetic process: Usually, Proksch works on large sheets of paper, mounted like drumheads and tackled with various tools (scrapers, brushes, pens, knives, twigs, etc.), the sounds amplified through contact microphones. The early OPTO_PHON performances were made with herself standing in front of the paper sheets, visible to the audience while drawing. Later, she decided to stand in the back of the paper with a spotlight behind her, so that light shines through it when it is cut and ripped.

Side A of this LP contains excerpts from OPTO_PHON performances, the first made in a church in Cheb, Czechia, in 2003, led by the strong echo emerging in the hall, the others recorded in her studio. They are contrasted on side B with a very different performance that is, however, conceptually related to OPTO_PHON: While travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, Proksch experienced a similar synaesthetic process while listening to the repetitive rattling of the train and watching the landscape passing by. In 2010, this experience was transformed into a sound piece for amplified sewing machine.

The Spanish musical group Barrabás was formed and led by drummer and producer Fernando Arbex. During their successful period in the 1970s and 1980s they released several funk, rock, jazz and disco influenced titles. After a four-year break they returned by releasing their album Piel de Barrabás. The use of synthesizers increased in their energetic dance sound. The record spawned two singles, “On the road again” and “Please Mr. Reagan, Please Mr. Breznev”. The last one was promoted by a big campaign in Spain and eventually got a lot of airplay on the radio stations.

We're absolutely thrilled to present a landmark album in Afro-Venezuelan music on vinyl for the first time. Originally released in 2017 on CD and Digital formats, Loé Loá gained critical acclaim in North America and Europe from the likes of NPR, The New York Times, and Songlines.

Most of the music on the album is in the style of 'Parranda', a traditional Venezuelan genre that literally translates into party. However, not every song is about joy and celebration as the band often sing about many of the most painful topics of daily life in Venezuela, as prevalent in 2019 as they were in 2017 when originally released: hunger, poverty, and shortages of basic medicine.

The entire album was recorded out in the open in Betsayda's home town of El Clavo in Barlovento, a region in the central Caribbean coast of Venezuela known for its cacao plantations and African heritage. It features 17 singers and 12 percussionists compared to the hundred or so that might be part of a real-life celebration. Yet the spirit, one of defiant survival and sheer joy, resounds the moment they strike the drum or sing the first note.

A week before leaving, I bought a dictionary and phrasebook.

Covered in rain, during the days and even the nights, Shanghai was lit in a glow, a mist turning to a constant grey fog. Buildings lined with neon and lcd screens flashed, and from around corners and behind buildings, the night was illuminated much the same as the day. Cars separated the classes, their horns voices punctuating the streets, as pedestrians in groups loosely scattered the streets, talking and walking on speakerphone.

For this legendary Town Hall Concert recorded on October 12, 1962, the great jazz composer and bassist Charles Mingus brought together an amazing lineup spanning the totality of the nation’s jazz scene with such luminaries as Eric Dolphy, Buddy Collette, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims, Pepper Adams, Jaki Byard, Grady Tate, and more. Brought together to perform new Mingus compositions for the first time in public, the recording was initially considered weak due to limited rehearsal time but the years have been kind to this recording and it’s a fantastic set of Mingus compositions, including the powerful “Freedom” which rivals the works on Mingus Ah-Um for its strength of purpose and message, in a similar vein to Max Roach’s legendary We Insist! album. Mingus is one of the most important figures in 20th Century music and this live recording documents his compositional and arranging prowess as well as sheer swinging joy. Essential.

Chelsea Wolfe has always been a conduit for a powerful energy, and while she has demonstrated a capacity to channel that somber beauty into a variety of forms, her gift as a songwriter is never more apparent than when she strips her songs down to a few key components. As a result, her solemn majesty and ominous elegance are more potent than ever on Birth of Violence.

There is a core element to Chelsea Wolfe’s music—a kind of urgent spin on America’s desolation blues—that’s existed throughout the entirety of her career. At the center, there has always been Wolfe’s woeful longing and beguiling gravity, though the framework for compositions has continuously evolved based on whatever resources were available. Her austere beginnings were gradually bolstered by electronics and filled out with full-band arrangements. The music became increasingly dense and more centered around live performances. Her latest album, Birth of Violence, is a return to the reclusive nature of her earlier recordings

“I’ve been in a state of constant motion for the past eight years or so; touring, moving, playing new stages, exploring new places and meeting new people—an incredible time of learning and growing as a musician and performer,” Wolfe says of the era leading up to Birth of Violence. “But after awhile, I was beginning to lose a part of myself. I needed to take some time away from the road to get my head straight, to learn to take better care of myself, and to write and record as much as I can while I have ‘Mercury in my hands,’ as a wise friend put it.“ Birth of Violence is the result of this step out of the limelight. The songs stem from humble beginnings—little more than Wolfe’s voice and her Taylor acoustic guitar. Her longtime musical collaborator Ben Chisholm recorded the songs on a makeshift studio and helped fill them out with his modern production treatments and the occasional auxiliary flourish from ongoing contributors Jess Gowrie (drums) and Ezra Buchla (viola).

The album opens with “The Mother Road,” a harrowing ode to Route 66 that immediately addresses Wolfe’s metaphoric white line fever. It explains the nature of the record—the impact of countless miles and perpetual exhaustion—and the desire to find the road back home, back to one’s roots. Songs like “Deranged for Rock & Roll” and “Highway” offers parallel examinations on the trials and tribulations of her journeys while the ghostly “When Anger Turns to Honey” serves as a rebuttal to self-appointed judges.

While the record touches upon tradition, it also exists in the present, addressing modern tragedies such as school shootings in the minor-key lullaby “Little Grave” and the poisoning of the planet on the dark wind-swept ballad “Erde.” But the record is at its most poignant when Wolfe withdraws into her own world of enigmatic and elusive autobiography. Much like Alan Ginsberg’s hallucinatory long-form poem Howl, the tracks “Dirt Universe” and “Birth of Violence” weave together specific references from her past into an esoteric overview of the state of mankind. Though the lyrical minutiae remain secret, the overall power of the language and delivery is bound to haunt the listener with both its grace and tension.

“These songs came to me in a whirlwind and I knew I needed to record them soon, and also really needed a break from the road,” Wolfe says. “I’ve spent the past few years looking for the feeling of home; looking for places that felt like home. The result of that humble approach yields Wolfe’s most devastating work to date.

Desmond Dekker recorded some of his best known songs together with his backing group the Aces. Their single “007 (Shanty Town)” made him Jamaican music’s first outernational superstar, reaching the 14th place in the UK charts. The Leslie Kong produced Double Dekker was first issued in 1973 and consists of the best material Desmond recorded during his early years. In 1969 he scored a number one hit with the legendary song “Israelites”. You’ll hear how the Ska music from the mid-60s developed to the Rocksteady sound. This was “Ska” or “Blue Beat”—(or its new name for the slower tempo “Rock Steady”), and the lyrics come from the Calypso-Mento method of telling about current events in music. He was really at his prime from 1969 to 1971, and recorded classics such as “It Mek” (1969) and “You Can Get It If You Really Want” (1970), which you’ll both find on this record. Even before Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff Jamaica already had their own international superstar, Desmond Dekker was his name.

A very limited vinyl reissue of Vertigo II - the second album of Dictaphone from 2006 - with a wonderful new timeless artwork.

Already formed in the late nineties in Berlin, Dictaphone was born by Brussels-bred multi-instrumentalist Oliver Doerell. In 2000 Oliver Doerell found a partner in Berlin's Roger Döring, who shares Doerell's love for the Brussels-based music of the eighties. In the following years the duo and several guest musicians (e.g. Stephan Wöhrmann (SWOD) , Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact) & more) released the critically highly acclaimed "m.= addiction" (2002), the "Nacht" EP (2004) and "Vertigo II" (2006) via the City Centres Offices label of Thaddeus Herrmann and Shlom Sviri (Boomkat, Modern Love). In 2009 the violin player Alex Stolze joined the band. During their two decades of existence Dictaphone played shows in more than 20 countries with festival appearances at Mutek, Transmediale, Unsound, Benicassim & more. Their latest release "Poems from a rooftop" from 2012 came as a very limited edition through the Berlin-based boutique label Sonic Pieces. In 2017 the band released the long awaited third album "APR 70" on denovali. The label now also offers a reissue of the trio's past repertoire.

Dictaphone never make music for the sake of it, they always want to create something which was missing before. And they did.

Die Tödliche Doris are back! In the sound spectrum of 31 contemporary dildos and vibrators, we are residing in 2019 with a resurrection of The Deadly Doris. She now appears to us as a performer, musician and instrument in one. Doris has never been that close to us. Tabea Blumenschein, a band member of the first hour, made illustrations of all 31 dildos and vibrators. In the Neuköllner recording studio of Frieder Butzmann cultural scientist Katrin Kämpf put the devices into operational and receptive readiness. Leeds-formed Drahla have defined their own vital subset of art-rock with Useless Coordinates , a debut album that’s as fearless as it is enthralling

Speaking from her current base in south-east London with bassist Rob Riggs, singer/guitarist Luciel Brown recounts the record’s somewhat chaotic gestation. “Most of last year was spent touring, so we were squeezing writing and recording in from the beginning of 2018 until end of August.” In-between a headline tour, support slots with Ought and METZ, and multiple festival appearances - including at Meltdown at the request of The Cure’s Robert Smith - Brown, Riggs and Wakefield-based drummer Mike Ainsley managed 10 days in the studio in total. It was the unsettled nature of the period that part-inspired the album’s title. “[Useless Coordinates] summarised all of our situations,” Brown explains.

The set’s sharp angles, stark tones and claustrophobic textures are reflected in the album’s artwork. Designed by Brown and Riggs - as per all previous record sleeves and promotional videos - the minimalist, mixed media creation takes inspiration from Talking Heads and Gang Of Four album art, the work of American artist Cy Twombly, and the economical, regimented aesthetic of the Bauhaus movement. “Drahla came about off the back of needing an outlet for creative expression,” Brown explains. “So the whole aesthetic is hugely important. As important as the music.”

Collecting some of his most important recordings, this is Duke Ellington and his Orchestra in late 1927 and early 1928, at the peak of their "roaring '20s" popularity. This was also at the beginning of the Ellington Orchestra's famed run at Harlem's Cotton Club, a legendary jazz club and host to some of the biggest names in the history of the music. Featuring the beautiful voice of Adelaide Hall, this collection includes some of his most highly regarded compositions and titles such as "The Blues I Love To Sing", "Jubilee Stomp", "Washington Wabble", and "Creole Love Call". In a career that spanned decades and countless accolades, these might be the finest recordings Ellington ever made.

Uniting two of the Ireland’s most forward-thinking musical propositions — Eoin O’Callaghan AKA Elma Orkestra and Ryan Vail — Borders is a singular collaborative project. Spanning symphonic ambience to widescreen electronica, it’s a genre-warping meeting of the minds from two of the country's most innovative artists. Having both been releasing music independently of one another since 2012, the album is a project that has almost felt destined to happen. As two artists residing on either sides of the border in Derry/Londonderry, their paths have entwined several times in the past. Now, mirroring the spirit of the times — of grasping for unity and togetherness in an unpredictable, ultimately borderless world — Borders is a release that sees those creative paths meet head-on. Across eight tracks, from opener ‘Droves’ to the beat-laden outro ‘Arlene’, O’Callaghan and Vail masterfully blur the contours between contemporary electronic and classical realms. This breaking of new ground — of pushing boundaries and thwarting expectations via attention to detail and a joint penchant for analogue equipment — is what underpins Borders. They create a new continent of sound, a world where Borders don’t exist. Though it was titled before the looming spectre of Brexit, Borders, as an album, encompasses much bigger universal themes about belonging in a world where division is more rife than ever. And yet, there’s a uniquely personal aspect that runs throughout the release. “The album was written with the mindset that we were scoring the border between the North and South of Ireland,” reveals Vail. “While performing the album live, the audience will see a visual journey across various parts of the border.” Underlining the collaborative nature of the release is the presence of Dublin spoken word poet, Stephen James Smith (‘My Island’) and Moya Brennan, who sings in both Gaelic and English on ‘Colours’). Combined with O’Callaghan and Vail’s meticulous, inspired compositions, these tracks only serve to highlight the album’s staggering feat of collaborative spirit. The ‘Borders’ album will be toured as either a two-piece solely with Elma Orkestra and Ryan Vail or alternatively as a four-piece or six-piece which includes a string section. In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the release of the critically acclaimed film Ghostbusters, Sony Classical is pleased to release the original score from the film, including the iconic main theme as well as previously unreleased tracks. Ernstalbrecht Stiebler (b. 1934) is a German composer of minimalist and reductionist contemporary music. Since the early 1960s, he has been developing a unique compositional style that draws on minimalist structures and repetitions, though not in any way related to the so-called Minimal Music, but rather influenced by Minimalism in visual art and characterized by long static tones that slowly change and evolve over the course of a piece. Stiebler has composed for solo instruments as well as for different chamber musical and orchestral line-ups. Many of his ensemble pieces are built around long tones coming together in specific intervals, often alternating between dissonance and harmony, sometimes involving microtonal structures. Often, the single instruments are hard to distinguish, instead the musical space opened up by the complex harmonies, disharmonies and interfering pulses becomes the focus of listening.

This double LP collects four live recordings of pieces journeying "between the tones" ("zwischen den Tönen"): "Intervall 19" and "Slow Motion", composed in 1997 and 2003, respectively, are apt examples of Stiebler's style set for chamber ensembles, with static tones putting every tonal nuance under microscopic view, and slow movement allowing for observation of the slightest variations. The third piece, "Zwischen den Tönen" (1997) is an anomaly in his oeuvre in that it makes use of his distinct techniques but is written for women's choir. The edition is rounded off by a recent recording, "ortung" (2018), again for chamber ensemble, that displays a newfound ease and compositional intuition that has become apparent in Stiebler's recent work. All recordings are previously unreleased.

"With great concentration the essence of sound becomes clear in Stiebler's late work, here in the heyday of his advanced age, and this has brought his music to the listeners and locations of the alternative avant-garde of noise, ambient and the real-time music scene, in which a culture of heartfelt dedication to sound has long existed. The fact that Stiebler's initiation of precise listening also constitutes a challenge to the cultivation of classical music (he is a great admirer of Mozart) has not yet been properly recognized." Pequeñas Melodias is the result of a dialog between the photographers Albarrán Cabrera (Angel Albarrán & Anna Cabrera) and the composer / musician Federico Durand initiated by IIKKI between December 2017 and August 2018. The complete project works in two separate physical imprints: a book and a disc (vinyl or cd).

Albarrán Cabrera are the photographers Anna Cabrera (b. 1969, Sevilla) and Angel Albarrán (b. 1969, Barcelona) who work together as a collaborative duo based in Barcelona. The work of Albarrán Cabrera has been shown in galleries and photo fairs in Spain, Japan, Switzerland, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Lebanon, Italy and the United States. Anna and Angel have both studied under photographers such as Humberto Rivas and Toni Catany, among others.Some of their prints have become part of private collectors and institutions such as Hermes, Goetz Collection, Banco de Santander, Fundación de Ferrocarriles Españoles among others. They have also produced printing work for several institutions like Fundació La Pedrera in Barcelona, Fundació Toni Catany in Mallorca, Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid or Barcelona Photographic Archive.

"There is a gap between reality and what we understand as real. And photography lies in the frontier between the real and unreal, the true and the false. So it helps us to “see” what is hidden from us. (…) We use a wide range of processes and materials. Some of these processes are the result of the combination of several old photographic processes or they can be a mixture of new and old ones. Thus we use, platinum, palladium, cyanotype or gelatine silver processes. But we have also invented and developed new processes, as it is the case of the one we use for our colour prints: pigments, Japanese paper and gold leaf. All this serves just one single purpose: we want to have far more parameters to play with the viewer than just the image. The texture, colour, finishing, tones; even the border of a print can give extra information to the viewer. Federico Durand is an Argentinian musician and composer who has recorded since 2010 twelves solo albums through some labels among others as Spekk, Home Normal, White Paddy Mountain, 12k. Federico Durand’s music is a weave of sound searching introspection and delight through simple melodies, made in the heart of Argentina. He likes music, gardens, John Keats' poetry, collecting stamps and Earl Grey tea. He has also a musical project with Tomoyoshi Date (Opitope, Illuha) called Melodía.

Gasper Nali plays a Babatoni - a 3 meter, one-stringed, home-made bass guitar - with an empty bottle and a stick. And makes the most beautiful and catchy original afro-beats possible.

"I am Gasper Nali. I live in Nkhata-Bay but I was born in Mzimba, a town close to Nkhata-Bay. I started singing and performing in 1997 with my two brothers who passed away in 2002. After they passed away I started on my own as a soloist. After singing for a long time I decided to make my own guitar with one wire string called the Babatoni. I just came up with the idea from nowhere. I made the instrument and started practising my songs. Nobody taught me how to play the instrument, I taught myself everything from making it to making music with it. I like the Babatoni because it does not need electricity to play with, so I can bring it everywhere with me and play it without plugging it to electricity. I use cow skin for making the cover of the body, and took part of the blue-gum tree to form the fretboard and the neck of the guitar, and I use car tire wire to make the string. I also play a self-made local bass drum with a self-made pedal, together with the Babatoni."

The first vinyl release between Carl Abrahamsson & Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, ’Loyalty Does Not End With Death’ is the final part of a spoken word trilogy initiated in 1990 with the Psychick TV & White Stains side ’At Stockholm’, and proceeded by their ‘Wordship’ [2004] album as Thee Majesty & Cotton Ferox.

Electing to use their own names for this final part of a 30 year wide series, the duo intend ‘Loyalty Does Not End With Death’ to be received without the connotations of their other projects. It’s the sound of two cosmically-travelled minds crossing paths after a long time to chew over the bare essentials - love and magick - via vibrant poetry and beautifully charged forms of ambient music.

In nine parts they conjure a warmly meditative music, where Abrahamsson’s characteristic, playful tones, cut-up electronics and gentle rhythms comfortably lay the bed for Genesis, who inhabits and enlivens the pristine scenes like an observant dark interpreter, translating the incomprehensible and revealing the divine through their psychedelic prism.

The spellbinding results were recorded in New York and Stockholm 2017/18 and could feasibly have occurred at any point between 1990 and now. They are blessed with a pacing, intuition and timelessness that pays testament to an enduring creative friendship, taking the form of writing, interviews, photographs and films (‘Change Itself’ [2016]) for nearly 35 years.

TRNT is the first attempt at reworking the Tarantella Tradition by Go Dugong.

Tarantella is a popular, magical dance and music from South Italy, that in ancient times was related to the ritual of exorcising hysterical people, mostly women, who were allegedly bitten by Tarantula spiders, scorpions, snakes. Delirious people, named ‘tarantolati’ after the poisonous spider, underwent therapeutic rites and dances, that drew them into a trance, healing status.

Tarantism related hysteria was actually due to the socio-cultural oppression of women in South Italy, where this diagnosis and its cure originated within a machismo dominated society. The bite of the Tarantula was indeed a scapegoat, used to justify what people did not want to understand at the time.

By working on this music, I happened to turn into a trance status, just like the ’’tarantolati” - Go Dugong

Go Dugong is the moniker of Giulio Fonseca, musician and producer born in Apulia, Italy.
Passionate lover of global sounds, in the last 7 years he has been crafting personal interpretations of rhythms, languages, instruments, field recordings and samples from all over the world. Half collector, half artisan, his sound collages are unique and cinematic in that they let the listener travel through sound. This long trip, started years ago, today has brought him back to his home land, to re-elaborate and synthesize memories, images and tales from his fellow countrymen and women.

Green Ribbons is a project dedicated to the celebration of unaccompanied song. The current line-up features Debbie Armour(Burd Ellen), Frankie Armstrong, Alasdair Roberts and Benjamin “Jinnwoo” Webb (Jinnwoo, Bird in the Belly). Their debut release is an intimate collection of traditional and newly composed songs. Recorded live at Studio 95 in Brighton by engineer Tom Pryor, GREEN RIBBONS sees each artist featured solo, in duet and in full ensemble. Ben “Jinnwoo” Webb brought the project together in July of 2018:

"Very broadly speaking, unaccompanied singing seems to have gone out of fashion in more recent years – but it’s always something I have enjoyed performing and listening to when I’ve had the chance. I wanted to get a group together whose voices I feel really lend themselves to storytelling, and focus purely on the voice and the stories. We wanted to make something very rough around the edges and unpolished, a kind of documented swapping of songs..."

About the track that gives its name to the project and album, he says: "I found these words in the Bodleian Archive and set them to my own melody. Green Ribbons were used to label people as ‘insane’ in the 1800s. I enjoyed the historical reference to mental health, a subject which features in some of my own writing. I liked, too, the directness of the lyric."

Laid Back is the debut studio solo album by singer-songwriter Gregg Allman, released in October 1973 by Capricorn Records. Allman, best known as the vocalist/lyricist/pianist of the Allman Brothers Band, first began considering a solo career after internal disagreements with that group. He developed the album as a small creative outlet wherein he would assume full control, and he co-produced the album alongside Johnny Sandlin. The album explores Allman’s varying influences, including rhythm and blues and soul music. It consists of several cover songs, originals, and a traditional hymn, and contains performances from a host of musicians, most notably Scott Boyerand Tommy Talton on guitars, Bill Stewart on drums, and Charlie Hayward on bass guitar. The album was created while Allman also worked on Brothers and Sisters, the fourth Allman Brothers album. To support the album, Allman embarked on an ambitious tour, consisting of a full band and an entire string orchestra. Two singles were released to promote the record, with lead single “Midnight Rider” becoming a top 20 hit in the U.S. and Canada. Pressed on 180gm vinyl. No DL codes included.

"- log p" is the debut release by the Hamburg based improvising duo David Wallraf and Klaus Frieler. The group takes a contemporary approach to classical concepts of Minimalism and Kraut. Repetition and layering are some of the main characteristics in the creation of rhythmical complexity through drums, field recordings and electronics.

Guideposts adorn the path of every journey, no matter the distance. Given Icelandic extended daylight, journeymen couldn’t rely on the stars, so they followed the Varda. Translated to “cairn” in English, these tiny rock towers heralded the way as the next cairn would always be visible from its predecessor. Icelandic duo Hugar—Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson—envisioned such a trek on their second full-length album, they appropriately titled Varda. A tectonic shift between classical orchestration, alternative ambience, and post-rock spirit, the 14 tracks string together an epic expedition awash in stark piano chords, gusts of lyrical brass, high-powered strings, off-kilter guitar, and brushstrokes of electronic swells. “Similar to those piles of rocks, the songs are like small cairns on the album,” explains Bergur. “It’s not about the destination though, but rather this never-ending journey, which the whole record represents. Thematically, it’s like the story of an intense road trip or rally car racing,” Bergur goes on: “It’s beautiful, nice, and energetic, but there are all kinds of obstacles and difficulties.”

Icelandic natives Hugar have forged a musical lane all their own with a genre-defying sound. Combining a shared passion for music and an impressive resume working alongside fellow Icelandic luminaries Björk, Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds and Johann Johannson, the longtime friends and natives of Seltjarnarnes began writing music together in 2013. Through a series of impromptu sessions, Bergur and Pétur recorded and released their independent self-titled debut Hugar the following year, making it available for free on their website. The sweepingly multi-layered and ethereally ambient album quickly amassed an organic following of listeners and has since racked up over 45 million streams worldwide on Spotify alone.

Prior to ever working together both Bill and Stu traveled in similar circles. Both heavily worked with Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks/AOTP) which led to Stu being on Bill's The Grimy Awards and Bill being featured on Stu’s albums with Esoteric and Blacastan. Having worked together on those tracks is what led to the manifestation of this project. Add to the scenario their love of comic books and the concept Cannibal Hulk was born. With both feeling most at home with aggressive music, this album sonically sounds exactly as its title indicates. Can Hulk features Vinnie Paz, Goretex, Slaine, Snak The Ripper and DJ Eclipse.
