Hip-Hop Vinyl New Releases - News

A killer and essential head to head, back to back repress 7" right here.
2 versions of this alltime, evergreen rare groove in one place, fully legit, remastered and repressed just for you.

'90% of Me Is You' is widely known and loved, oft sampled and searched for high and low by soul aficionados and music lovers across the globe.

Vanessa Kendrick's take is a breathier, sweeter affair. A ridiculously rare 45 to obtain and boasting a $500+ price tag too. Recorded a year before Gwen McCrae's and arguably the original version, hence it's top billing spot on the A-side. Obviously, Gwen McCrae's version is more widely known, and it is astoundingly good. Her sultry and yearning vocals complementing the lush arrangement and tough backbeat drums in a different way. Obviously both versions bring something to the table in their own respective ways, with our 2 fabulous vocalists channelling different feelings and different moods, but they are both simply amazing and worthy of a place in any self-respecting music lovers stash. Flawless.

Licensed and reissued with the full involvement of the Henry Stone Music group for 2020. Featuring original classic Galdes label artwork.

Back in 2015, when we started Hip Dozer we were overwhelmed by the amount of talents that were still defending that old school way of doing beats and the amazing creativity that was circulating in the scene.

In a period of time where hip hop was evolving so much and getting always further (sometimes for the best but also for the worst), it appeared evident to us that we had to defend this rising scene of young beatmakers that were so tied up to the roots of the 'old-school' beatmaking but still bringing it to another level.

It has been 5 years since we have created Hip Dozer Records with our 1st Anniversary compilation and this is what makes this compilation such a special project every time. Its goal remains the same and will always be, championing the art of beatmaking that we love and help to showcase new artists from the scene.

This year we have the chance to have onboard some of our favorite new talent from the scene with the like of Burrito Brown, Loland, Imagiro, we also have the chance to have standard bearers like Jinsang, Saib, Flofilz, Melodisinfonie, Kazam, Shuko and, cherry on the cake, the french hip hop legend DJ Cam on top of that.

We want to thank so much all the artists who took part in this project and that were as enthusiastic as we are in its realization. It’s been such a thrill since this venture started and this is just the beginning. Much love to all of you guys listening and supporting wherever you are.

PEACE. Hip Dozer Fam.

The seventh (!) volume of high class reworks from rising star Young Pulse is here and it's a banger !.
With a mixed bag of jazz-funk, early 80's boogie and high energy disco there is something for everyone here.
But we really wanna give the A side track 'Bobo's Reason'(Willie Bobo) an extra mention...proper full on summer jazz-funk with a slight disco edge. Feel good material.

(Record Store Day Exclusive) Two Vinyl LPs (sold separately) Music Mania and Indica Dubs is proud to present the 20th and 21st release "Spirit Of The Ancients", featuring two legends of the UK Dub scene, pioneers Alpha & Omega and Jonah Dan! This album was originally released only on CD format in 2003, and now on vinyl for the first time, spread over two volumes!

More a family than a band, BANDA MAJE formed in a home studio in the historic district of Salerno, in Southern Italy, on the initiative of Peppe Maiellano (composer and keyboards) and Tonico Settanta (producer, rapper and DJ). The collective has an ever-changing number of members, all of whom – a bit like the lively port city they are from – exist at the crossroads between Italian melodies and imported genres like funk, soul and disco.

Released by Four Flies Records, a label specializing in vintage Italian soundtracks and brand new productions with a strong cinematic feel, Banda Maje's debut album "Ufo Bar" transports you to an imagined version of Salerno that combines local tradition and 70s pop and film culture.

Listening to the album's eight funk- and soul- infused tracks also means seeing stories unfold in the streets of this re-imagined city: from the jubilant uprising organised by the women from the Rione Fornelle neighborhood in "Fornellesse", to the cigarette smuggling story in "P' ciel, p' mar, p' terr"; from the distinctly southern Italian pucundria (bittersweet melancholy) in "Sunday Embarcadero", to the saga of provincial nightlife in "Living Disco Club".

While the LP's Side A is sunny and cheerful, its Side B is more nostalgic, almost nocturnal, with bittersweet vibes in "2010" and new wave-influenced synths in "Ago". This variety of moods reflects the emotional depth behind the music of Banda Maje: "We want to leave a trace of what we experience: the narrow little streets brimming with life; our love for Neapolitan music, for Italian soundtracks from the 70s, for B-movies and the saga of cigarette smugglers; our passion for vinyls and cassette mixtapes, not to mention second-hand love affairs and dusty afternoons spent watching third-division football."

The sophomore studio album from rapper and singer Doja Cat, with the singles “Juicy,” “Rules” and “Say So,” plus guest appearances from Smino, Gucci Mane and Tyga.

Fresh, dubbed out Dancehall updates

A singular group of ?experts? issues a notice of extraordinary urgency in the vicinity of various atmospheric phenomena, which are partially localized and, above all, of high intensity. Yet the sun shines with strength over the Neapolitan favela. ?Allerta Meteo? is the first album of sparkling sonics by The Funkin? Machine Collective and the newest release of Periodica Records? Pegaso Series, comprising a cross-section of jazz and funk sounds, with bright colors that are good for any season, whether rain or shine. The voice of Andres Balbucea - the binding soul of the opera - is supported by the unmistakable flow of Speaker Cenzou during the vibrant ''L'ora d'o Groove'', accompanied by the performances of Roberto Porzio on the synthesizers, Alessio Pignorio and Riccardo Betteghella on the guitars, Vincenzo Lamagna bass guitar, Andrea De Fazio drums, Paolo Bianconcini on percussions, and the extraordinary participation of Pietro Santangelo in the cinematic ''Django'' and Jeroen Verberne on Trombone in ''Rafiki''. An authentic wave of warm notes destined to overwhelm the most observant listener, the first hour followers and all the citizens.

collecting orders for repress!

An impressive live album by Marvin Peterson who was one of the finest trumpetersAin the 60's-70's is making its return on vinyl format.

African, funky, sarcastic, bewitching, green, ecstatic: these words collide to describe Vaudou Game and all of them are true. Bella is the first vinyl single derived from the upcoming album called Noussin, due to be relased June 11th 2021.
"Bella" is a smashing summer hit, sang in Mina and french. It's an ode to the nature and love in this hard times. "Be My Wife" on the B side, is a trip into a rock /funk universe with an uptempo twist rythm, sang into the voodoo harmonies.
Composed in Lyon on 100% analog equipment during the lockdown, those two songs might be the funky nuggets of all DJ's and radio playlists .

(Colour Vinyl LP) The Record Store Day 2021 vinyl edition of Super Nova Samba Funk – the comeback album from Banda Black Rio, featuring Brazilian heavyweights Seu Jorge, Marcio Local, Elza Soares, Cesar Camargo Mariano & more. Originally released in 2011, this new special edition for RSD features two tracks from the project that were never released on vinyl, ‘Irerê (feat. Gilberto Gil)’ and ‘Aos Pés Do Redentor (feat. Caetano Veloso)’.

Rare boogie joint time, Isabr'm or his real name Isaiah Lanes obscure and expensive. Recorded at Starlight Sound in Richmond, California (The same studio when many of the Digital Underground tracks were records as well as Alexander O'Neal) the record has remained obscure due to its price and rarity. Straight dancefloor boogie fire all the way on 'If I had you, flipped with a wonky drum machine balled 'Nothing At All' which I kind of love.

'Baby’ – cross it off your Wants List at last. Written by Caetano
Veloso, arranged by Arthur Verocai, covering Gal Costa. An
absolutely killer Brazilia modern soul jam – a rarity in Brazil
that we hammer in DJ sets and have been wanting to release for a
while. Taken from the Quinteto Ternura self-titled LP from 1974.

‘Filhos De Zambi’ is uptempo samba-funk of the highest order, and now very difficult to find at a decent price in it’s original RCA ’compacto’ format. Percussion high on the mix, hands claps and a brilliant harmonised chorus line.

The 18 track album is executive produced by EarBuds and features live instrumentation throughout from Aria’s band the Seng Seng Family.
The album is an incredible exploration of sounds and topics that cover the current times and beyond.

Following the 2018 release of a 12" preview sampler, BBE Music is excited to present the album 'A Taste of Chicago', a compilation of classic house edits by Jamie 3:26. Hailing from Beverly on the South Side of Chicago, Jamie 3:26 is an artist driven by a deep desire to get people moving in the dance.

A Chi-Town vibe is always the focus for the master selector and producer who's capable of lighting up dance-floors around the world and that ethos shines through on this compilation, featuring a collection of tracks giving listeners a true insight into the sound, culture and style of the Windy City.

The compilation sees classic tracks by the likes of Chip E, Quest and more get a serious Jamie 3:26 twist, with edits that not only capture the best of celebrated eras gone by, but point to the future too. Get ready for a unique and timeless journey into Chicago's famous house music scene, courtesy of one of the city's key players. Jamie 3:26 – “This compilation represents the true unspoken sound of my city.

While the House scene was blossoming into what would be a globally recognized phenomenon, we had this whole hidden movement going on. These personal edits that I played back then represent magical moments in time that are still being created in many of my sets today.

A huge thank you to my music brothers Marshall Jefferson, Braxton Holmes, Tone B. Nimble, Chip E, Pap Spencer, Doc Brucio, Carl Bias for trusting my ears with your creations.”

Description : Back in 2003, following on from the success of “Follow Me”, Red Astaire released “Rollin’ Stone” on G.A.M.M. which sounds as fresh today as it ever did with Erykah Badu’s vocals over a haunting piano instrumental featuring Andre 3000 (her ex!) on the guest rap. Fast forward 18 years and we are so excited to be putting this out on a 45 courtesy of Freddie Cruger who has done a special 45 edit of Love To Angie (Stone) for the flip which also has never featured on our favourite format before – these will fly out – snooze you lose!

Sexadelic disco–funk, boogie and Italo sounds by Spanish actress, singer and Sex Goddess SUSANA ESTRADA.

"Amor y Libertad" (Love and Freedom), was originally released on the Belter sub–label Sauce in 1981. Produced by Cosmic Disco pioneer Josep Llobell (Oliver’s Planet, Enterprise), this is a real fest of 80s Italo Disco, Munich Sound, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. The fabulous, minimal production of Llobell collides with the sensual vocals and moanings of Susana, singing about sexual liberation and freedom. Of course, when the album was originally released, nobody understood it. Criminally underrated for many years, "Amor y Libertad" has now become a cult item in the international Cosmic Disco scene.

In 2017, we released on Espacial Discos a Susana Estrada compilation, "The Sexadelic Disco–Funk Sound Of...", which included most of the tracks from "Amor y Libertad", now out of print on vinyl.

Due to high demand, we present here the first ever vinyl reissue of "Amor y Libertad" with the original tracklist and artwork, including a colour insert with photos and memorabilia.

Over 2 decades since his last compilation on BBE Music, Jasper The Vinyl Junkie returns to the label with ‘Vinyl Junkie Thangs’ a bumper collection of effortlessly cool, eclectic grooves for heads and feet. Vinyl collector, DJ and music writer, Jasper The Vinyl Junkie has been with BBE since the very beginning, curating our second ever label release, 1997’s ‘Stop & Listen Vol. II’. It seems only right for him to rejoin us in our 25th year with another stash of funk-filled, jazzy cuts and edits, many of which are almost impossibly hard to find. “Even all the digital interference hasn’t stopped vinyl being a fantastic way to get your groove on. When I put together compilations like this back in the day, there were just 3 formats: Vinyl, CDs and Cassette Tapes. Now there’s a whole heap of ways to get your favourite tunes: downloads, streaming, youtube etc. etc… Even so, when I put an album together, I always do it with the analogue in mind, so it has a certain feel to it.” – Jasper The Vinyl Junkie Featuring sounds from all-time music heroes like Fred Wesley, The Fatback Band and D-Train’s Hubert Eaves alongside lesser known artists like Exile One, Ashantis and Funkshone, Jasper takes ‘Vinyl Junkie Thangs’ above and beyond the norm for this type of collection by also including a smattering of contemporary edits, remixes and new creations. Material by the likes of Basement Freaks, OPOLOPO, Jkriv & Free Magic and Mr Scruff, much of which has never been available on vinyl before, blends in perfectly with the classic material, giving this album extra depth and fresh dimensions.

5 track EP ‘Idol Eyes’ is the debut release from Common Saints. Featuring some of the most carefully crafted and intricate guitar tones you’ll hear in a long time, this is RnB meets psychedelic pop, with an inexplicable natural groove that holds everything together.
With infectiously smooth vocal hooks, warm bass tones and a rhythm that flows effortlessly, this is a seriously cool record that destroys genre boundaries from the get-go.
On ‘Idol Eyes’, Common Saints added: “Idol eyes’ is a journey through a Utopian world. Dusty drums and Pink Floyd like guitars. The chorus lyric “We wanna make love, we wanna get high” kind of boils down some of the most simplistic drives of mankind.”

This is the start of an expressive journey of sounds, controlled music experimentation and high-end production from a producer that is renowned for his passion. You can expect a whole host of music in the near future too. We’re excited to introduce to you, Common Saints.

Of the many 1000s of reggae versions, Derrick Cross' version of Never Too Much has got to be one of the sweetest. Unfortunately, with a price tag of 500 euros plus, it's a local Hackney record that has become inaccessible to most.

Fully licensed by our man Sam Don and released on 7 inch for the first time, this late night melter provides a taste before the second instalment of our 'For the Love of You 2' compilation coming later in 2021 compiled by Sam and locked down during lockdown.

IZIPHO SOUL are thrilled to announce their next release: Early 80s music from New Jersey of the highest order and a first time re-release on a 45.

IF YOU WANT MY LOVIN’ is a synth-soul boogie bomb that we’ve taken to another level. The ‘Sunshine Mix’ by Philip Ward - miraculously restructured - giving it the feel of a 12” but keeping it under 5 minutes, the instrumental break in the latter stages is simply stunning. The sublime flip ‘HARDLY NEED TO SAY’, hardly needs an introduction. Whilst the Rhodes and intricate guitars weave their way throughout the track, June’s vocals shine with passion and power.

DJ DSK is back with more dancefloor goodness, DNA Edits vol 6. The A side is an edit of Patrice Rushen's 80s R&B classic remind me. The flip side is a funky house/disco edit of Funkadelic’s Knee Deep, both are DJ friendly remixed from the stems with intros/outros big sound and banging beats.

The track is already on the ‘Filoxiny’ album so Skinshape extended the mix and backed it with a dub version for the flip. Skinshape is the project of British musician William Dorey. The sound has roots in many genres but in particular 1960s Funk, Soul, Reggae, Psychedelic Rock, Afrobeat and Folk. Aside from the Skinshape project Dorey was bassist for the band Palace from 2014-2017 and also runs a reggae label called Horus Records based in North London. About I Didn’t Know from Dorey himself: “This is the most 'pop' song I've possibly ever made, and possibly the most 'modern' sounding. It is about being in a difficult relationship and not knowing how to deal with it and making mistakes as a result. I wrote and recorded most of the song around the drum pattern, and created some (terrible sounding) digital orchestral parts temporarily whilst I created the body of the song. I recorded the strings and horns in the last part of the recording process before doing the final mixes. The horns were recorded separately with the help of my long-time friend (since school) and master arranger Jon Moody (of the group Franc Moody).”

Uptempo funk-soul ’Vou Morar No Teu Sorriso’ is a real favourite of ours and a regular spin in DJ sets. Tough drums, breaks and percussion, big vocals, horns and bass.
Taken from their self-titled LP from 1971.
Dancefloor Samba-funk-MPB business on ’Quem Vai Querer’,
originally released in 1977 on RCA.
A rolling samba groove, layered percussion and a lovely lead vocal from Eliana build into a big chorus and increased drum pressure!

Little did we know when we started Highlife back in 2010, that over in Quito, Ecuador a young Nicola Cruz was being drawn to the similar sounds and artists as us. Over time we've formed a mutual admiration and we couldn't think of a better example of a Highlife artist - so we're unbelievably excited to present his debut record on the label!

The EP is inspired by walks around nature, cachoeiras, forests, simply all the beauty you find when visiting isolated, almost untouched spots of gorgeous nature.

BEATCONDUCTOR drops this limited 1-sided reworking of a 60s classic from the BEACH BOYS under a cheekily appropriate alias. Lifted from original stems and branched out towards tropical shores. Still keeping the moody feeling and adding some extra extended uplifting rhythms. The original organ is transferred into a laidback skankin backbeat with the bass steady pounding deep below. Full color stickered label on a 1-sided 12” with vocal and instrumental mixes
