"Yellow Brick Road" und das rhythmisch völlig ungewöhnlich aufbereitete "My 1st Single" sind nur zwei gelungene Beispiele von vielen, mit welchem Ideenreichtum der Mann auch diesen Job erledigt. Definitiv einer der stärksten Nummern ist das zusammen mit D-12 eingespielte "One Shot 2 Shot" sowie der am Ende des Albums platzierte Titelsong "Encore", bei dem Eminem von Dr. Dre und 50 Cent am Mikrophon unterstützt wird. Founded in 1983 by brothers Willard Richardson Jr. and Patrick Richardson, The Unit Band gathered in a few multi-talented singers and musicians, all neighborhood friends who grew up
together and attended Alcee Fortier High and surrounding schools. At the time, The Unit Band also interacted with other New Orleans based groups such as the Neville Brothers, Chocolate Milk, Family Players and Windjammer who later got signed to major labels.

The Wu-Tang Clan was assembled in the early 1990s with RZA as the de facto leader and the group's producer. RZA and Ol' Dirty Bastard adopted the name for the group after the film Shaolin and Wu Tang.

This fantastic 2-sider was originally released on 45RPM single on Piggylo Records in 1973. The label was owned by Joe Isaac Henderson who also released one 45 and a full length album under his own name on Piggylo. The a-side of his 45 ("Out Side Loving") was featured on the fourth volume of the highly regarded "Praise Poems" compilation series. Now it is time to introduce you to Marvelle Hampton and the only two songs she has ever recorded. Two beautiful jazzy funky soul tunes which are finally ready to reach a wider audience.

Soul Brother first reissued this on CD/LP on a compilation The Wants List', but such is the demand for the 7' it's back on the label again. Little is known about Rita Wright, only that she is not the singer who began with the same name and became Syreeta. Touch Me Take Me' was originally the b-side of this release and a song written and produced by Steve Royal who had released it in 1975 by Ester Byrde. Love Is All You Need', now the b-side, was arranged by Richard Niles who would go on to work with Swing Out Sister, Pet Shop Boys and Grace Jones. Original copies of this record on Jet have been on sale this year for over £300!

Uptown Syndicate Band was formed in Norman,Oklahoma May 1971. The band spanned nine years and had nearly 50 members. Uptown were renowned for high energy performances of Funk, Rhythm and Blues with soulful ballads mixed in

Uptown was born out of the fraternity and sorority parties at Oklahoma University, especially the Alpha-Phi-Alpha and as their popularity grew, encompassing campuses all over. Considered locally as the top show bands rivaling the Gap Band of Tulsa, yet still only managed to record 2 solitary singles, probably due to a hard touring regime. The group consisted of a powerful horn section, two strong vocalists, and a serious rhythm section that would have matched JBs, The fact they never recorded a few Lps is a crying shame, but here we have their 4 recordings in their delightful and varied glory

The Hoodna Orchestra is a 12 members orchestra who studies and investigates the African origins of western popular music. The Orchestra formed in 2012 in the south side of Tel Aviv, by a group of musicians, and it functions as a collective and a record label.

Hoodna's musical director is The Guitarist and composer Ilan Smilan. The cultural and musical environment that surrounds the group has a great effect on its creative process. Exposure to Ethiopian', Eritrean and Arabic musical traditions, coupled with an ongoing study and exploration of different jazz styles, creates a unique blend which has made The Hoodna Orchestra one of the most appreciated and sought-after live shows in Israel.

YELBEN (from my heart in Amharic) is the new single from the Hoodna Orchestra and Tesfaye Negatu. It is a love song, reflects a painful longing for a love that is long gone.

The song was written by the Ethiopian poet and singer Demisu Belete and composed

by Ilan Smilan.

The B-side is the instrumental song BEZE ("on my side" in the ge'ez language).

Both songs recorded live in the Hoodna studio, on mostly analog equipment.

The songs convey a respectful nod to the glory days of Ethiopian jazz and pop in

Adis Abbeba, during the 60's and 70's.

The new single is the first in a series of collaborations between the Hoodna Orchestra and Ethiopian singers and musicians, both from Israel and Ethiopia.
