talented producers from worldwide "Global Bass" scene to
revisit all time Afro-Colombian classic musical pieces.
Palenque Records' original artists, such as Son Palenque,
Batata y Su Rumba Palenquera, Colombiafrica The Mystic
Orchestra.., living testimonies of how much Africa has
influenced traditional music in Colombia, have developed a
remarkable culture, collaborating with african musicians such
as Diblo Dibala, Bopol Mansiamina, Dally Kimoko or Nyboma.
Most of them are considered to be the precursors of
Champeta", a unique musical genre setting its roots in the
west-african Soukous and folklore. This music is the origin of
the very interesting "Picó' culture of the Caribbean coast of
Colombia. In this volume, we´ll go deeper into modern
Champeta, re-interpreting nowadays dj's works of the like of
Rata Piano, typically dropping some catchy soukous guitar
samples and going mad on some cheap Casio sampler over
heavy drum machines played live.

Takeshi Okawa a.k.a. Okawa 78 is a skilled saxophonist also knows as one of a very few DJs specialised in 1920-50's world roots music who only plays out on 78 RPM records. Under his wing a whole bunch of Japanese musicians gathered to form The Rulers, experimenting with the authentic music from Africa, South America and blending into ska and soul funk creating a new groove of their own. Musicians include members from The Netandars, Sly Mongoose, Oi-Skall Mates, Rub-A-Dub Market, The 69 Yobsters, and Soil & Pimp Sessions.

The Ghanaian Afrobeat band Osibisa released their sixth studio album Welcome Home in 1975. Since their formation in 1969 they played an important role in bringing the world music to a bigger audience. The African and Caribbean musicians recorded an catchy fusion of jazz, funk, rock, Latin and music from their own continents. Their music can be compared with the early Santana releases, from psychedelic guitar to fine rhythms. The album Welcome Home includes their massive UK hit "Sunshine Day", with funky melodies, and their soft acoustic title song "Welcome Home". With the use of vibraphones, percussion and wind instruments the sun is going to rise higher above the musical grounds.

Osibisa is an important name in the influence world music has had during the seventies. In their almost 50 years of existence they recorded over 20 albums and even now they're still performing live.

Welcome Home is available as a first pressing of 750 individually numbered copies on coloured vinyl.

Great return of the classic and pioneer band of the French Funk scene! After a long absence, Malka Family reformed, burned some scenes and composed a new album without changing anything to its magic formula. Recomposed with almost all original
musicians, they come back today with a new album, Le Retour du Kif. At the heart of a still popular and multicultural Marais area in Paris, young musicians gather to jam. This is where Malka Family is formed. Their first self-produced album, Malka On
The Beach, was released in 1991, and gigs were immediately chaining up all over France and Europe, famous for their eccentric costumed performance and after-parties. In 1992,
Warner France signs them for a second album Tous des Oufs, a real P-Funk space opera with guests such as Sidney, Dee Nasty, Marco Prince (FFF), or Juan Rozoff... They will then traveled France, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Namibia, Japan ...
And in 1994, the band becomes independent again and records an EP for Big Cheese Records, titled Fricassee de Funk. After a final tour for the third album, Fotoukonkass (BMG) recorded with Renaud Létang , the band finally broke up. At a time when Daft Punk is using funk artists to support their performance, when Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" continues to make the crowds dance, it's time for the original funkateers families to come back and teach a lesson to new generations. After the
band reformed and started touring again since 2015, they quickly decided to record a new album and to leave on the roads again...

After a 3 album recorded between Detroit and Nashville, LAFAYETTE, the duo Nathalie Loriot and Franck Hedin, decided to dedicate to their 60's style "side project", THE SHUFFLES. An unceasing dream had been exciting them for a long time; Compose, produce and record an album of pure, classic 60's soul, with a sharp backing band, backing vocals and guest singers. The Studio Mercredi 9, one of the temples of the vintage sound in Paris, would be the place chosen for the recording. Analog mixer, 24 tape tracks, ribbon microphones, tube preamps and plate reverb, and Fred Carrayol, a sound engineer and studio creator, are the guarantors of the rough sound the duo is looking for. As for the musicians, they had to have strong musical personalities, essential for live tape recording: Daniel Marsala, guitarist, Olivier Ferrarin, drums, Stéphane Benguigui, bass,
aka the gang des Niçois, Fabrice Colombani on the tambourine and a guest of choice, Camille Bazbaz playing the piano and the Hammond organ. 3 days later the 12 tracks were taped. The following sessions took place at Gum Studio with
engineer-mixer Etienne Colin, another old accomplice of the duo. And for the vocal part, the finest of Parisian Soul Gospel scene were invited: Kandie, Felicia, Josephine Spector aka Nathalie Loriot, Mike Louvila, François Valade and Kevin Davy White.
The vocal performances are full of sincerity and energy, respectful to the illustrious legends of the genre. The shadow of the legendary Motown, Fame, Stax, Hi Records or Atlantic albums hang over the 12 tracks of this album, a vibrant tribute to the golden age of soul.

Odion Iruoje was the A&R manager at EMI at the time,' Benson says, and he auditioned us, liked he material and signed us.' Odion Iruoje of course had groomed and produced Ofege. Now he was looking to repeat the formula with other high school groups such as Tirogo, Apples and Question Mark. Grotto's deep rock would be a welcome addition to this schoolboy rock' series.
Work on their album started immediately, with Iruoje in the producer's chair. Adapting to the tastes of the times—as well as their own maturing musical sensibilities—Grotto started transitioning from acid rock towards sleeker, more dance floor-friendly grooves. As I grew older I think I got a bit jazzier,' Benson says. I also listened to Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Isley Brothers, Prince and a lot of funk groups from that era.'
Hard rock was the content of the first album,' Amenechi agrees, and funk/jazz/R&B the focus of album number two. Especially with the late Toma Mason Jr. joining as bassist.' The group's second album, Grotto II: Wait... No Hurry (released in 1979) reflected the growing sophistication of its members' musical outlook. Fat, funky bass grooves rubbed shoulders with jazzy flute lines, space-age synthesizer tones punctuated good, old-fashioned crunchy rock riffs.

Tenderness - A short-lived Disco project helmed by James Purdie and Skip Mahoney only released one 45 and one 12" single during their brief existence. Known for their work with Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers & Frank Hooker & Positive People and many more, this duo were undoubtedly a highly talented producer, songwriter and keyboardist combination. Originally released on RCA in 1978 'Keep On Trying' was an underground club hit. The record still packs an immense punch today, it's a mixture of tough streetwise drums and percussion and swooping dramatic strings and brass will surely hit the spot for Disco aficionados. The kind of record you can imagine causing all out pandemonium at the Garage while the scents of amyl and sweat fill your nostrils. The kind of record that would make everyone on the raised stages and podiums at the Powerhouse whoop and holler in collective joy as Frankie stylishly segues it into a punishing percussion break-down. Yep. It's THAT kind of Disco record, so rare and so coveted that even the infamous DJ Harvey put it over his knee and gave it a good editing way back when. There's been a shedload of poor imitations knocking around, dodgy Euro bootlegs etc, but this 2017 repress is from the MASTER TAPES (Yes, we can prove it) and is fully, 100% LEGIT in every way. Keyboardist and composer Weldon Irvine is among the most celebrated Jazz-Funk artists of all time. He was Nina Simone's bandleader for years, and wrote the lyrics for her iconic civil rights anthem To Be Young, Gifted and Black'. Throughout the 1970s, Irvine released a series of seminal albums full of deep, soulful, funky grooves. The Sisters is a collection of lost tracks and demos from his late-1970s studio sessions with fellow Jazz-Funk luminary Don Blackman. Featuring the hit single Morning Sunrise' (later famously sampled on Jay-Z's Dear Summer'), the album contains a mix of instrumental and vocal tracks that stand up with the best work in Irvine's impressive catalog. So we are here wondering why Earth people and especially to those from our beloved home country, why why are you just sitting there, going about your life unaware of this historic event That is really a pity!

Leon Bridges, the double Grammy Award nominated R&B artist, is very proud to announce details of his second album, Good Thing.
Good Thing, the follow up to Leon's critically acclaimed, award winning, Certified Gold debut album Coming Home, was Executive Produced by Ricky Reed and Niles City Sound, and produced by Ricky Reed. Leon and his long time collaborators and Coming Home producers, Niles City Sound, headed out west to work with Reed with the goal of taking Leon's music in a more modern R&B direction while staying true to his signature style.

By now Leon's backstory is well known; he went from working as a dishwasher and struggling through the open mic scene in his native Fort Worth, Texas to two-time Grammy nominated artist performing at the White House for President Obama, attending the Met Gala and appearing on Saturday Night Live in a two year span. They say good things come in threes and that's certainly the case for Shapes of Rhythm: a new year, a new artist and their new release! Announcing the mysterious D. Lynnwood's Connect EP. Four tracks of dancefloor-friendly music blurring the lines between house, disco and the 80s boogie sound.

You won't know D. Lynnwood but in some ways you already do. A South London based Parisian, he's previously released music on a number of UK labels, but recently decided to start afresh with a newer musical outlet. Armed with a studio full of synths and drum machines he set out on a new course. This EP is the first fruits of this new nom de plume.

Gospel Discotheque, (which features label-mate BodyMoves) is that peak-time club hit in waiting. A series of uplifting soulful gospel vocal hooks underpin the track we defy you not to sing along to. The solid 4/4 beat and percussive workout is accompanied by a moving bassline to create one of the most feelgood dancefloor tracks of 2018, guaranteed!

Bitcoins ramps the pace a notch higher and is a straight up synth and drum machine jam. With a beat that is faithful to the best boogie tracks of the early 1980s, the track is driven on by a darting synth lead and a repeating pitched down vocal. Snare drum rushes and more layers of synth textures keep this one jacking along nicely.

D. Lynwood brings the tempo down a little for The Vault but maintains the machine-based groove. With a drum sound harking back to Prince's When Doves Cry, this is Connect's funkiest track thanks to its bass and synth line combo. The EP closes with the sci-fi inspired Space Agent. Dominated again by a synth bassline and a crunching drum machine this is a more atmospheric groove with vocal samples returning to hold down the mood.

True Feelings 'Love Me, Love Me' is available now on 12', remastered and back as an official reissue for the first time exclusively on Backatcha Records. Released in 1981 in tiny quantities, the song's history has been an enigma ever-since. A streets ahead, local Harlesden cosmic Brit-Funk sound from producer Smokey T and crew. The real deal spirit of London's underground music land then and now. Jus' listen.
