A. Tito Puente - Tito's Odyssey
Often referred to as "the king of latin music", Puente was a master timbales
player, composer and band leader born in Harlem, New York.
'Tito's Odyssey' is the third Puente track in our Latin 45's series. Taken from
the Tico-Allegre All Stars LP recorded live at Carnegie Hall in 1974, released
on Tico. A dramatic intro to top all dramatic intro's; a wall of building
percussion, a huge horn section and crowd noise.
Previously unreleased on 7'. Popularised in the UK by the likes of Snowboy,
Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge.

AA. Sahib Shihab - Om Mani Padme Hum
The biggest drop in latin music! Taken from Sahib's 'Jazz Joint Vol. -
Companionship' LP released in 1971 on German label Vogue Schallplatten
featuring other players including Kenny Clarke, Milt Jackson, Francy Boland and
Benny Bailey.
Shihab was an American born jazz and 'hard bop' saxophonist who worked with
Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Art
Farmer, Donald Byrd and many more greats.
'Om Mani Padme Hum' is a sanskrit word and widely used Tibetan Buddhist mantra.
Previously unreleased on 7'.

Sao Paulo born Toni Tornado was considered the Brazilian James Brown by many.

His career began as 'Tony Checker', lip syncing to rock 'n' roll hits and touring extensively outside of Brazil. Whilst in New York he met Tim Maia and became involved in the 'Black Rio' movement. Toni also worked with Ed Lincoln and Antonio Adolfo amongst many others. He had a successful acting career and starred in many soap opera's.

'O Journaleiro' is a tearing funk track with tough drums and big vocals. Taken from his hard to find and expensive to acquire debut LP, 'BR-3', released by Odeon Brazil in 1971.

This track has never been released on 7".

Som Tres was a jazz ensemble formed by legendary Brazilian musician César Camargo Mariano, who also formed Sambalanço Trio.

Cesar's collaborations with many of Brazil's most important singers, notably Wilson Simonal and Elis Regina, have brought him worldwide acclaim; the historic 1973 album Elis and Tom, made with Antonio Carlos Jobim, features Cesar as arranger, pianist and musical director.

Som Tres recorded eight albums between 1966 and 1971. 'Homenagem a Mongo' is taken from the sought after 'Som 3' LP from 1969 on Odeon Brazil. It has never been released on a 7".

Wilson das Neves - Pick Up The Pieces
Wilson das Neves was is a legendary Brazilian percussionist most well known for being part of Os Ipanemas. 
His cover of Average White Band's 'Pick Up The Pieces' recorded with his 'conjunto' ensemble, takes the track into funky samba territory, laden with percussion and horns.Originally released on the 'O Som Quente E O Das Neves LP in 1976. Previously unreleased on 7".
Som Tres - Tanga
A Mr Bongo all-time Brazilian Funk favourite. Tearing drums, vocals and piano packed into just over 2 minutes. Killer. Som Tres were a trio formed by prolific pianist, arranger and producer Cesar Camargo Mariano.Originally appeared on the 'Um É Pouco, Dois É Bom, Este Som Três É Demais' LP on Odeon Brazil in 1971. Previously unreleased on 7".

Volume two of Nik Weston's Lost Soul & Funk Gems continues with a track from Loleatta Holloway who sadly passed away in 2011 . Loleatta was probably best known for her disco classics including 'Hit & Run' & the much sampled 'Love Sensation'. In 1971 however she cut a dope club funk 45 cut for Fantasy sub label Galaxy with 'Bring It On Up' with soaring vocals, southern styled guitar and great brass and fatback drums. A perfect example indeed of 1970's female funk . On the flipside an incredible super soul drenched previously album only gem ''I'll Be Around '' from Ron Henderson And Choice Of Colour . The track appeared on the 1976 'Soul Junction' LP on two labels Chelsea and Choice Cut but has never been before on a 45 single in it's own right. Dramatic strings lead way to spine tingling vocals and arrangement to die for. This particular track has been in Nik's top 10 tunes of all time for 20 years or so and been a labour of love to finally get it licensed and released on Mukatsuku Records for a new audience to enjoy perhaps for the first time who may not have come across these beauties before. Dug up from the dusty Blue Note vaults, Richard Blue' Mitchell's Good Humour Man' had its horns (and other bits) lifted back in 1991 to create the back bone of The UMC's classic on Wild Pitch, One To Grow On' - first time on a 45 for both of these classics!

Jarrod Lawson is releasing a special limited edition mini-album Jarrod Lawson At The BBC',
recorded at the historic BBC Maida Vale studios in October last year and broadcast on the Gilles Peterson Worldwide show on BBC 6 Music.

The mini-album, pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl, features one new Lawson composition Soul Symphony', together with a long version of Everything I Need' from his debut album and two covers - of Bilal's When Will You Call' and the Anthony Hamilton song Point Of It All', described on Twitter by Hamilton himself as a dope cover'. Guitarist Chance Hayden plays on all tracks and trumpet player Farnell Newton guests on two.

The limited edition Dome release will be available can also be bought at Jarrod's UK and European live dates or distributed exclusively by One Nation Vinyl Distribution.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing the newest addition to the slowly expanding Claremont 56
roster. You see, there's been no recorded output from German combo Bambi Davidson since
the release of their largely overlooked 'minimal post-rock' debut album, El Faco, in 2000.
Until now, that is.
Following the release of their debut set, founder members Robin van Velzen (guitar/vocals)
and Hans Christian Fuss (drums) became frustrated with their lot. Bored with 'rocking out' as
a two-piece, they decided to start inviting other musicians to join them on stage. That meant
that each performance was unique, with new tunes - often improvised on the spot - being
developed for, or at, every gig.
It's an approach that frequently paid dividends. One particular collaborative gig, with Frank Mollena (most famousfor his involvement with fellow German Balearisc rock outfit Mountaineer) and Sofia Fuss, went so well that both were asked to become permanent members of the band.
It was at this point that the newly expanded four-piece Bambi Davidson finally headed back into the studio to record a new album, some 15 years after they'd recorded their debut.
As you'd expect with a new line-up, things are a bit different this time round. Whereas El
Flaco was a stripped-back affair with most tracks featuring just guitar, drums and vocals,
Bambi Davidson features additional bass, electronics and keys provided by Frank and
Sophia. The result is an expansive but atmospheric album built around sensual, undulating grooves, gentle, sun-kissed melodies, lilting pedal steel and woozy, dub-influenced production.
Often magical and always immersive, the six tracks that make up Bambi Davidson are
delightfully contrary. While pleasingly accessible and capable of inducing broad smiles on the first listen, each carefully considered, drawn-out composition reveals more intricate layers on each listen. This is particularly true of 'Foxhunting' - reminiscent of fellow Claremont 56 act Bison

Limited reissue of an amazing old school early 80s hip-hop 12' from the prolific Peter Brown stable. On this super-rare Golden Flamingo 12', Little Starsky delivers a great jump-up party classic with heavy bumping bass and superb old-school rapping bringing the good-time party vibe every time. On side B, you get the instrumental version from Brown's in-house Land Of Hits Orchestra which provided the backing for many of his releases.

For the first release from Crowbar Records we are proud to bring you a true exclusive - a previously unheard mess of scratchy 60's funk from California. The two part track has been taken from a lone double sided 8 inch acetate cut at Hollywoods Gold Star studios that, judging by the style of the song, was recorded in the late 60's. The song was never published and thus we are certain that it didn't reach the pressing stage - the acetate likely ring the only surviving document of Troubled Soul's perhaps only recording venture. The fragile disc had survived well in the hands of a British record dealer since he found it - now remastered, it is ready for the broadcast it never got. About the singer and his band we know absolutely nothing (there were no other details available on the label save the artists and title), except that they were likely local to Los Angeles, it sounds like they may have been somewhat intoxicated that day and that their raw, delightfully amateur romp deserves the outing it never received back then.

Hot on the heels of Tenderlonious' Thoughts Of You EP, Jeen Bassa's first solo offering is another strong release from London's most talked about musical collective, 22a!

One of the three outrageously talented Deenmamode brothers (Mo Kolours & Reginald Omas Mamode IV), Jeen Bassa has remained the most elusive of the 22a collective until now. Raised in the west-country but currently residing in South-East London, Jeen Bassa's warm and woozy productions stand out in a world saturated with bland Dilla-esque pastiches.

His split EP on 22a with Henry Wu released in early 2014 was met with critical acclaim and promptly sold out within a week of hitting the shelves. Bassa's latest musical offering comes in the form of an EP, twenty-two minutes of "future rare-groove." This heavyweight cut is not to be missed!

Supalatino returns with another top notch compilation of funky Latino floorfillers, digging even deeper into the vaults to bring you some serious fire. Side A features two incredible Latin versions of disco classics - first up is Louie Ramirez' laidback take on 'Do It Anyway Ya Wanna' by People's Choice filled with funky piano riffs and great mellow brass followed by a wonderful lost version of Barry White's 'Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Baby' by Puerto Rican Willy Chirino taken from his impossible to find 1977 'Chirino 3' LP. On the flip we get the 'The Barrel' by Majesty, an über-rare slice of exhilarating synth-laden Latin disco worth the price of this 12' on its own. Next up is 'Afro Hustle' by Lou Perez, a super-cool grooving gem plucked from his 1977 LP 'De Todo Un Poco' and lastly the excellent 'Escravos De Jo' by Brazilian drummer Dom Un Romao, a killer jazzy Latin track covered in the 90s by Kerri Chandler and Joe Claussell. A superb package.

Great new four track EP featuring some super cool disco rarities hailing from the islands of the Caribbean. Worth the price of this 12' alone is the fantastic and über-rare 'Naussau's Discos' by Mucho Plus, an awesome remake of the 'Beginning Of The End' classic and a floorfiller so in-demand it features in Discogs' top ten of most expensive records ever sold. This is followed by a great funky steel drum cover of the Roy Ayer's classic 'Can't You See Me' by Trinidadian artist Boogsie taken from his hard-to-find 1979 LP. Next up is 'Sweetie' by Manhattan Charlie's Roots which is a Barbadian disco take on Bunny Mac's Afro classic 'Let Me Love You' and then rounding things up nicely is the super hot 'Hands Up' by Casual T, a soulful disco boogie jam originally out on a mega rare Jamaican 7'. Superb!

Peace starts off w/a jazzy moving disco edit. "Consume" is everyone's favorite avant-garde vocalist taking jabs at consumerism. "Love", an upbeat disco burner for peak hour hands-in-the-air twirling. Lafleur owns Motor City Wine in the D.

Strut continue their acclaimed 'Next Stop Soweto' series in March 2014 as they return to the rich archives of South African music to spotlight the fertile era of the late '70s and early '80s.

Mr Zambon's (of The Very Polish Cut-Outs fame) side label TRANSATLANTYK has made quite an impact across a handful of releases

etc...), the ©© Les Frères Smith collective is back with an even more ambitious new LP.
Recorded the old school way and mixed by genius producer Masta Conga in line with the
tradition of the great albums of the analog era, which results in a warm and heavy sound , a
production worth the ones by the Nuyorican Daptone Records or Truth & Soul.

More mixed, varied and generously sprinkled with multiple influences inherited from the
warm 70's sound, their dynamic and sharp music on record reveals itself totally explosive
on stage where the Parisian combo is now recognized as one of the best live afrobeat acts,
mainly thanks to years of stage experimentations and multiple tours in France, the UK and
Europe (Roskilde Festival, UK, Lounge on the Farm Festival, Germany, Nuits Zébrées
Nova, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Benelux, Slovenia, etc...).

After featurings on the first album with Fela Kuti musicians, Tony Allen and Oghene
Kologbo, the second LP will feature the divine Malian singer Mamani Keïta, Guinean griot
Djeli Moussa Condé and the over vitamined Barbadian flow of Milo, who all three
collaborated with the Smith family on this new album.

Other vocals are done by charming and enchanting Swala Emati Smith, with a soul
resonant of the Lauryn Hill style, and the charismatic Prosper Smith in a Camerounese,

'The First Day' is the debut album from French producer Will Galland, aka Quiet Dawn. Since signing to First Word in 2014, Quiet Dawn has released two singles, 'New Dawn' featuring Oddisee (including a remix from Eric Lau) and the more recent 'Golden Moments' featuring Sarah Gessler. These served as the perfect introduction to QD's style, with jazz, hip-hop and broken beat influences combined to create something that is very much his own sound.

'The First Day' is a concept album of sorts, a human journey based on one day - specifically the first day in search of love. This takes in many forms, peaceful familial love (Aurora, Hold Them Close), introspective love (The Trap, Golden Moments) and of course romantic love (Dusk, After Sex). Each track is linked to a specific time of day, taking the listener on a personal trip through time.

The album highlights Quiet Dawn's musical philosophy - particularly his desire to share the limelight with fellow musicians and artists. An introverted character as a person, his extroverted side comes out in his musical life. Consequently the album is dotted with collaborations. Miles Bonny, Oddisee, Theory Hazit, Sarah Gessler, Dandy Teru, Barrio and Majnun all add their talents to the album, with QD effortlessly blending their disparate skills with ease.

This is a real rarity, a record that fetches top, top dollar ($500 plus) on-line among Soul, Funk & Disco aficionados. "What Am I Gonna Do" has been comped numerous times but this is the first time the whole LP has been re-mastered & re-issued on vinyl (Having previously only been re-released on CD in Japan) Brought to you in conjunction & with the permission of T.K.
