Just as the Surrealists congregated at Rue Blomet, or how CBGB became inextricably linked to the birth of punk, a flat in SE London across the street from a stall selling karelas, edoes and those frighteningly large snails, has become the epicentre of an exciting undercurrent of new and unorthodox British producers. From within the confines of their home studios, the inhabitants of --- Rye Lane have been crafting a sound that channels Jay Dee as much as the street bustle outside their bedroom windows, and are garnering support from Gilles Peterson, Lefto and Kutmah in the process.
New tracks from Reginald Omas Mamode IV, Sunshine and Moneymaker ,turn around dusty stabs of guitar and Madlib-esque beats. A homage to good weather and a cautionary tale for superficial woman, the tracks also feature his supine and natural one-take vocals. These songs are reprised with the help of brother Jeen Bassa and childhood friend Al Dobson Jr, fresh from releases on IZWID and Rhythm Section, with additional vocals added for good effect. It showcases the collaborative spirit of this collective, their shared influences and their deeply individual ticks.

Second great vinyl-only 12' compilation from Fire Department featuring four hard-to-find old skool disco, funk and boogie scorchers. The party kicks off in style with the full 8 minute 12' version of Cameo's killer instrumental funk jam from 'It's Serious' followed by Le'O Roy's in-demand heavy dancefloor bomb 'Pound For Pound' - classic Peter Brown-produced NY disco magic. Flip over the uber-rare long version of 'Give It Up and Shake It Down' by Risse, a synth-boogie monster from a 1982 12' on the highly collectible Chocolate Cholly's label. And last but not least another blast of red-hot steaming soul/funk in the form of Nimbiss' 'Feel The Fire', a slow-burning gem from tiny Chicago label Full Scope. Great collection.

Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart is a name to remember when it comes to modern groove music! Bassist and guitarist in various band, he started production in the mid- 90s and continues today to combine modern technology with the raw and genuine spirit of the golden age of Disco, Funk, Soul, Jazz, or Reggae.

Based in Lyon (France), he's constantly been looking up for new artists and adventures to feed his endless appetite for production and composition. As a result, his discography is quite exceptional today and the list of projects he's been involved in quite impressive: Uptown Funk Empire, Mr President, Metropolitan Jazz Affair, Mr Day, Hawa, or Patchworks Galactic Project are just a few examples... Album after album, he proved a true gift of musical ubiquity, renewing in all genres and always mindful to ensure high standards.

Since 2007, just following the international success of The Dynamics first album, Patchworks has also started to hide under Taggy Matcher alias, releasing fine Reggae remixes on Stix Records, a subdivision of Favorite Recordings. And after a few years seeing these remixes played all over, the mysterious Taggy Matcher and Stix Records decided it was time to go further and prepare a first album.

After a first single covering two tracks of The Black Keys and shedding lights on a new singer called Birdy Nixon, Taggy Matcher recently presented the song 'My Man', alongside another surprising great songstress from Lyon: LMK. On this track, Taggy dug more into the Digital Reggae sound from the early 80s, showing another side of his production scale, more famous for his Rocksteady-Roots style until then.

Coming out late November, Taggy Matcher' first album, called Singasong, definitely explores even more into the various styles of Jamaican music. Surrounded by a loyal team of musicians, he continues the long-standing local tradition of covers, taking over titles as varied as "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath or "No Love Allowed" by Rihanna, to name just a few.

As for vocals, Taggy also gave his trust to a fine crew: around a captivating Birdy Nixon, the young LMK shows eloquent skills, as do Mr Day and John Milk, his two longtime buddies. And whether it's in adaptation or composition, the sound and production of this first album impress by its authenticity and style.

S3A, Rhythm&Soul, Cecil, Adepte on Slow Town's 6th release! Four cuts that goes from the sexy garage touch of Rhythm&Soul's Say U Will, the amazingly organic funk touch of What I Dreamt from the parisien golden boy S3A to the aggressive naughty groove of the Cecil or the bizarre uptempo beats of hidden treasure from Paris, the new comer, Adepte.

Piscean Group originally formed as part of an astrological union founding members and initial line up Sir Robert & Osunlade share. Since its conception, Osunlade has created an open coalition of musicians from his childhood home St Louis. As an open forum, the group has no real members and is a voice for all writers, musicians and performers alike. The non-credit of participants gives the groups identity a backseat to the sheer pleasure of the music. Their self titled debut e.p. released on R2 Records and was an intro of sorts to the groups intention. With their first full length project the approach is that of a soundtrack. With an open landscape and no actual movie to score, the group's imagination was allowed to go from soft to hard groove, and throw in a few cameo performances from Osunlade and rising LA pianist Daniel
Crawford. This movement proves to be the start of a long musical journey. Whether a Pisces or not, this will set your mood and elevate your spirit.

Following the Middle East vibes, this is the second volume of De Los Miedos edits, featuring two more tracks of the best 70's Turkish psychedelic music.

There's much to enjoy about Andrew Allsgood's Free Association edit series, from the psychedelic trippiness of the '70s rock-inspired artwork, to the impressive oddness of their source material. Of course, this would mean nothing if the edits didn't deliver, but to date they've been nothing less than inspired. There's more brilliance to be found on this third installment, from the voodoo percussion and slowly building intensity of "Polyryhthm Jizm", to the loose Afrobeat goodness of lead cut "Grassland". The EP's third track, the dense afro-rock epic "Zulu Salute" is arguably the highlight of another inspired collection of inventive and unusual re-edits.

Going even further into the tape archives of Robbie M we find ourselves with "Friend". This time it's going to be a late night affair, as Robbie smothers you with those smooth vocals as only he can. Rock Island's RAM music direct to you from the Midwest. Robbie is currently working on his autobiography film project, but had the time to bless us with a new music video for "Thanks For The Love" featured on this LP

Keep the Faith is Alexia Coley's debut album. Her music has a classic soul and jazz vibe with the edge of a girl who has grown up in modern day London. Uplifting good time soul and slow emotive torch songs are all delivered with style and backed up with a voice that could rank among the best.

Three single releases (7" vinyl) have brought her music to the attention of BBC6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and BBC London, where she has gained numerous plays and performed live on air.

Alexia has been perfecting her live show with regular performances in London showcasing material from the album, at venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Hoxton Bar & Grill, Blues Kitchen, The Paradise and Mau Mau.

Her band also featured on the festival circuit, with performances at the likes of Secret Garden Party, Mostly Jazz and Port Eliot festival.

Complete Works 1970-1975. Edward 'Apple' Nelson is best known for the small clutch of 45s he released under the Apple and The Three Oranges name on local Los Angeles labels in the 1970s. He first found credit as 'Apple' on a Marie Franklin single released the Stage Music imprint which led to the issue 'Free And Easy,' the first record released as Apple and The Three Oranges. This rapid development from road hog to recording artist inspired him to found Sagittarius Records, named after his zodiac sign. His run with Sagittarius contains six unimpeachable soul and funk numbers released under the Apple and The Three Oranges banner and one issued under his own name, Ed. (sic) Nelson. This material is ripe for a historical reappraisal. The low fidelity of every Apple and The Three Oranges single was never a problem for the low-riding Eastside Angelenos, who lionized tracks such as 'True Love Will Never Die,' but their muddy quality cast Nelson outside of the canon in which troubled soul singers like Bobby Womack have held court for decades. Nelson's master tapes — lost in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina — will never surface to right this wrong. And the records themselves are rare: the 'Love Brings Out The Best Of You,' 'Curse Upon The World' and 'I'll Give You A Ring (When I Come, If I Come)' singles are amongst the most sought after and expensive Los Angeles soul and funk records to ever list at auction. Thus, we are privileged to present Nelson's complete works in our Free and Easy anthology. Nearly forty years after he gave up on his recording career, we're left with little more than Nelson's explosive music and his straight-shooting stories of his life's arc. The fact he can't explain his life's contradictions are what makes the extensive interview contained in Free and Easy's book a compelling read. Whether it's his first hand experience with the great New Orleans drummers who laid the foundations of funk, or his relating the oft-told, and always sad, tale of lust supplanting love, Nelson offers confounding words to complement his all too beautiful soul and funk music. - Contains a 16-page booklet with full annotation, extensive liner notes and never-before-published photos. Inspired by a journey of a man, who is not afraid to leave everything behind and travel far beyond the stars, Vakula sets off for the exploration on new sound magnitudes. Written by David Lindsay in 1920, a story of a fearless traveler who is exposed to sublime energies and unknown spheres concurs with Vakula's perception of reality and his personal voyage to unknown dimensions. Claimed to be a soundtrack to A Voyage To Arcturus, the album is an attempt to expend beyond conventions of the modern house music and dedication to daring ventures.

It's been some time since The Qualitons have made some noise on the current Nu-Funk scene. Their debut album 'Panoramic Tymes' from 2010 received amazing reactions from people all over the world. Wah Wah Records co-owner Dom Servini stated 'it's like The Kinks, Tony Allen and Brian Auger have been chopped up and fused together to create a trippy, rollercoaster musical tour de force'. What a perfect description. So it was only a matter of time that producer Kanada Káosz and the band would get together to start writing and arranging new songs for their second album.
These two brand new tracks are perfect examples of what you can expect from their forthcoming second long-player. The nasty funk sound of Rolling The Bones features Los Angeles native Andy Hefler on vocals. The afro-soul b-side, titled Fülcimpa, reveals the progress the band has made since their last recordings.

Four decades on and Azymuth has reached legendary status amongst fans worldwide and across the music industry thanks to the trio's pioneering blend of traditional Brazilian jazz and proto funk fusion from the early 70's right through to the present day.

In 1979 the band's first Milestone Records release, 'Light As A Feather' quickly became one of the best-selling LPs of the year. Featuring the worldwide disco/fusion hit single 'Jazz Carnival' and going on to sell more than half a million copies internationally, the album stayed in the UK Top 20 for eight straight weeks. An incredibly well thought out album both in pace, song selection and musicality, 'Light As A Feather' marked a maturing of the band as they began to rightfully utilise the studio as an instrument itself, embracing numerous mixing and recording techniques not yet common for the time as well as pioneering the use of the Big Muff and Dolby System to great effect. The end result is an album that endures to this day as a jazz funk masterpiece.

Now Far Out is pleased to present this seminal recording remixed and re-mastered from the original tapes, lovingly reproduced on heavy weight vinyl and CD. Eltron John kicks off the A side with a reggae influenced rework of a Polish children's song from late 80's called 'Ludzie z Marsa'.
His modern, dubby production and close attention to the smallest details fuses perfectly with abstract lyrics. This serious-not-serious song treats about people who are from Mars and invade Earth, because 'they can't remember what the forest animals look like, what a farce !

Already road tested by the members of TVPC, this Caribbean-East European depth of a groove works perfectly in late night drunk sets.

On the B side Eddie C visits executive suite of a cruise ship with his extended, melancholic rework of 'Stoneczna Promenada'. The original tune is an old Polish cocktail-lounge classic from the late 70's, transformed here into a psychedelic story of epic proportions.

Moody loops evoke instant headnodding and added dub effects magnify the nostalgic, sunny vibe.

Mark Ronson releases his eagerly anticipated new album,
'Uptown Special, January 19th on Columbia Records. The explosive
first single, 'Uptown Funk', featuring Bruno Mars, is the number one single in the UK.

'Uptown Special', Mark Ronson's fourth album, was written and produced with Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Drake, Alicia Keys) over 18 months in London, Memphis, LA and New York City. The majority of the album's lyrics were written by Michael Chabon, Pulitzer winning author.

I wanted lyrics to push farther than most of what's going on in R&B and pop today,' says Mark. I wrote Michael to ask if he'd be interested in writing lyrics for the album.' To his surprise, Michael, a huge pop fan, said yes and quickly became immersed in the project.

Early on in the process, Jeff suggested a Southern USA road trip. The two held an audition at the Penguin on the campus of Jackson State University in Mississippi and discovered Keyone Star - a cool looking girl with an amazing rasp in her voice' says Mark. She sings lead on 'I Can't Lose'.

Also crucial to the sound of the album is Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, who sings lead on 'Summer Breezing', 'Leaving Los Feliz' and the ethereal 'Daffodils'.

The wonderful cast of characters also includes Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt, Mystikal, producer Emile Haynie, Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford, DJ Zinc and Stevie Wonder.

Ata Kak's cassette Obaa Sima fell on deaf ears when it was self-released in Ghana and Canada in 1994. The music on the recording - an amalgam of highlife, Twi-language rap, funk and disco - is presented with the passion of a Prince record and the DIY-bedroom-recording lo-fi charm of early Chicago house music. The astute self-taught song craft and visionary blend of sounds and rhythms has made the album a left-field cult favorite among adventurous listeners worldwide. Awesome Tapes From Africa founder Brian Shimkovitz found the tape in 2002 in Cape Coast, Ghana - one of only a few ever pressed - and later made it the inaugural post on the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog. Hundreds of thousands of downloads, YouTube views, music video tributes and remixes, as well as years of mystery regarding Ata Kak's whereabouts, culminate in this remastered release featuring rare photos and the full back story of one of the internet age's most enigmatic musicians.

BRZZVLL plays improvised dance music with a jazz-fusion, afro-funk and rare groove sound like those of the 70's.

BRZZVLL is the regular house band of the 'Nuff Said evenings, with spoken word, stand up comedy and literature, monthly at the Cultural Centre of Berchem (Antwerp, Belgium). This allows them to play together with renowned national and international artists such as Joseph Bowie (Defunkt), Amir Sulaiman, Jessica Care Moore, Zena Edwards, Ayanna Witter Johnson, Baloji, Mo & Grazz, Sharrif Simmons, Kain the Poet (The Last Poets ) and of course Anthony Joseph. The cooperation with Joseph is so obvious that after three concerts they decide to make an album together.


Anthony Joseph is a poet, novelist, academic and musician. He was born in Trinidad, moving to the UK in 1989. He is the author of three collections of poetry and a novel, The African Origins of UFOs. In 2004 Joseph was selected by renaissance one, Decibel and the Arts Council of England as one of fifty Black and Asian writers who have made major contributions to contemporary British literature, appearing in the historic Great Day photo. In 2005 he was selected as the British Council's first Poet in residence at California State University, Los Angeles.


Joseph lectures in creative writing at Birkbeck College, University of London. He is a AHRC scholar and doctoral candidate at Goldsmiths College.
As a musician he has released three critically acclaimed albums with his band the Spasm band; all released to coincide with book publications. His debut album with the band, Leggo de Lion was released in 2007 (Kindred Spirits), and featured lyrics taken from his novel The African Origins of UFOs. Bird Head Son followed in 2009 (Naïve Records). The band's third album Rubber Orchestras was released in 2011 on Heavenly Sweetness, alongside a new collection of poems with the same title.
Joseph has also collaborated with several artists including Archie Shepp, Joseph Bowie, Laurent Garnier, Othello Molineaux, Malcolm Catto, Mop Mop, Robert Aaron, Roger Raspail, Keziah Jones and Jerry Dammers of the Specials as part of the Spatial AKA Orchestra. His latest album "Time" was produced by none other than Me'shell Ndgeocello and has recently (February 2014) been released on Heavenly Sweetness.


The music is recorded by BRZZVLL themselves in their own studio in Mortsel. Renowned producer; Werner Pensaert mixed the album and the mastering was taken care of by Grammy Award winner Darcy Proper.

On their premiere full-length LP Enjoy The Ride, SOCIAL LOVERS take you on a musical journey with their unique, feel-good sound. Skalpel returns with new tunes after a lengthy sabbatical.

Duo, established by composers and producers well known in broadly defined electronic music circles. Their trademark was referencing a rich heritage of Polish jazz of the 1960s and the 1970s, with inspiration taken from the likes of Komeda, Stanko, Urbaniak and molding all of those retro ideas into their own original vision of contemporary sound.

Two internationally acclaimed albums "Skalpel" and "Konfusion" released at that time by Ninja Tune put Skalpel on the radar of curious and avid fans of different genres of music - from jazz, through electronica to club and hip­hop.

After a few years break Skalpel is back with brand new tracks to be released later in the year on "Transit" album but before it happens there is more music: they will start off with "Simple" that will give a little sample of band's new sound and contains three extra tracks that will not feature on the album, a remix and an intro to "Transit" in the form of it the title track.

This will be a treat for those who have patiently waited since 2005.

Skalpel also have a new live incarnation. Duo will be joined on stage by Joanna Duda on synths and Jan Mlynarski on drums and that will give a complete new depth to the tracks on the set list .

Idris Muhammad started out a drummer/percussionist, his first recording being Fats Domino's hit single 'Blueberry Hill' in 1956. He also played with the likes of Sam Cooke, Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions. Soon his reputation grew such that he earned a recording gig with the legendary Jazz alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson, with whom he contributed some of the funkiest drum patterns of the late 60's. His impeccable sense of timing made Idris a natural for the drum chair in the upbeat Soul Jazz of that period. Also he was frequently in Hammond organ combos to which his energetic style was especially suited. Muhammad played with nearly all the great Hammond players - Charles Earland, Lonnie Smith, Leon Spencer, Reuben Wilson and more besides, as well as Donaldson's sidemen like George Benson and Melvin Sparks.
Idris Muhammad recorded this classic Jazz-Funk album 'Turn This Mutha Out' in 1977 for the Kudu label. Some great session musicians accompanied him and the album has that David Matthews signature Disco-Jazz-Funk sound. It was well received in the UK most notably for the opening track 'Could Heaven Ever Be Like This', an undisputed classic. Idris and Wilbur Bascomb on bass create the perfect bedrock for Mike Brecker on Tenor Sax, Hiram Bullock on Guitar and Cliff Carter on Synthesizer to solo above, topped by Frank Floyd's vocals. It has been sampled at least seventeen times, most notably by Jamiroquai and Drake. 'Turn This Mutha Out' also has many other tracks of note. 'Camby Bolongo' is a delightful percussion heavy rhythmic instrumental featuring Randy Brecker on Trumpet and Jeremy Steig on flute. 'Crab Apple' is a wonderfully funky track with a great bass line and groove that has found favour with samplers having been used to create at least nineteen new Hip Hop and R&B tracks. 'Moon Hymn' is a beautiful ethereal track featuring David Tofani on Soprano Sax, that develops into a mid tempo funky groove as Ronnie Cuber's Baritone Sax appears, then shifts back to serenity. Jeremy Steig and Guitarist Eric Gale contribute heavily to the funky album closer 'Say What' that has also come to samplers attention. We are delighted to present this album on CD for the first time anywhere in the world.

Limited vinyl 12' reissue of this 1979 African disco classic from the great Mr Cecil Bunting MacCormack aka Bunny Mack. A perfect fusion of disco, funk and calypso, produced by fellow Sierra Leonean Akie Deen, this sweaty, pumping disco shaker has timeless dancefloor appeal and is still a big DJ play today especially after being revived as a contemporary club hit by Masters at Work and Anane and also sampled to great effect by Wale for his hip-hop banger 'My Sweetie'. Side B features the highly sought-after and very useful instrumental version 'Love You Forever'.

Ronnie Kae - Wigged out craziness from drummer Ronny Kae. Swinging Drums is the name of the track, but Demented Drums might be more apt as Ronny rolls the toms to a twanging one string guitar riff and a suitably crazed voice interjects with dance instructions for the hepped up teens at the sock hop - simple enough commands such as 'Go Go Go - Go Everybody!' On the flip side, a variation on the winning formula with 'Swimming Drums'. Not sure what swimming drums are, but the effect is just as great!

Endlich wieder erhältlich auf original Asexy-Vinyl: Das legendäre Machwerk des sagenumwobenen und doch fast vergessenen Musikproduzenten Bronco "Babyman" Babic aus den 60gern, den 70gern, den 80gern und dem Besten von damals! War er nun aus dem Balkan, Italien oder doch aus dem flämischen Teil Belgiens Um Bronco "Babyman" Babic ranken sich absonderliche Geschichten. So soll er auf der Musikmesse MusicaTechnica 1978 in Lugano einen Elefanten auf seinem neu entwickelten Synthesizer "Broncosaurus SEXX" spielen haben lassen, nur um seine technologische Exzellenz zu beweisen. Der schwedische Königin Silvia hat er mit seinem ihr gewidmeten Album "Undressed to the Crown" (1982) höchstwahrscheinlich schwer das hübsche aristokratische Köpfchen verdreht und als er dann 1987 das rumänische Bademodenmodell Bulgara Brugal vor den Traualtar aus gefrorenem Champagner führt, annulliert er die Ehe bereits 7 Wochen später, als sich herausstellt, daß Bulgara eigentlich ein luxemburgischer Synchronsprecher namens Bulgor Brueghel ist. Seine Hits sind von den Oldiesendern vergessen worden, seine Songtexte im Internet kaum zu finden doch für Kenner, Beatbastler und mutige Discjockeys weltweit ist der Bann des Gütesiegels "produca del Babyman" bis heute ungebrochen. Nach etwas sehr längeren Aufenthalten in Entgiftungskliniken und Herrensanatorien hat der mittlerweile graubärtige (aber gut gefärbte) Babic seine alte Plattenfirma "Asexy" wiederbelebt und bringt nun Single um Single seine für ihn wichtigsten Meilensteine wieder in genau dem Format heraus, in dem sie damals schon in den Regalen verstaubten: als kleine Vinylsingles mit großem Loch!
