Hip-Hop Vinyl New Releases - News

The LP ‘All Welcome on Planet Ree-Vo’ due for release on 29th July could only really have been made in one city steeped as it is in Bristol’s decades of less conventional hip hop and bass music. Tweaked and fine tuned during the summer of 2020 the record punches with a mix of red eyed paranoia to a playful future funk.
The album was all recorded, produced and mixed by Andy at Christchurch Studios, Bristol (home of Mezzanine era Massive Attack) with all vocals written and performed by T. Relly.
During 2021 the first two singles from the LP were released. The first was the juggernaut that is ‘Groove With It’. T. Relly growling out polemic against the relentless cacophony spun by Andy Spaceland, The brutality of the bass and horns is temporarily smoothed with Relly’s soulful, swaggering placation of ‘Turn your speakers on/ Till ya speakers blown baby/ If you’re feeling strong baby/ We can keep it going baby’.
This was followed in April by the 12” release of Combat featuring a thumping remix by Surgeon (Tresor Records) and an extended electro remix by Ree-Vo themselves.
2022 began with the limited red 7” release of remixes by NØISE and Batbirds with stunning original artwork by Shepard Fairey who came to the project via mutual friend Joe Cassidy (Butterfly Child). The release was announced on OBEY’s website
‘Spacebox’ which will be the last single to be released in time with the album is their hookiest, a party throwing chorus spinning tipsy visitors around the intergalactic control booth of mission control.
“Lift off, blast off, shirt off, dance off! Naked in the dancehall SPACE BOX!” is the beamed mantra, Relly transmitting to all occupants of the galaxy.
“We wanted to make a hedonistic and colourful dancehall track, a bold response to the suppressive circumstances of the last two years”.
About Ree-Vo:
T. Relly is pure Bristol hip-hop royalty – known in the community variously for his links to all of the city’s major club nights, his passion and support for the most disadvantaged (through his work with the youth and prison leavers), through to compering stages at St Paul’s Carnival and his seminal 2018 LP with DJ Rogue ‘Let Them Know’. He collaborates with many crews including Innalife and Killer Crab Men.
Andy Spaceland (AKA Andy Jenks) got involved in Bristol bass music as soon as he moved to the city with Static Sound System and a collaborative 12” with Rudy Tambala (AR Kane) as Sugarboat Vs Sufi, before his band Alpha were signed to Massive Attack’s label Melankolic, whilst he also became one of their tour DJ’s. His CV of collaborations range from Smith and Mighty to Madonna. He has released music on Dj Die’s label, Gutterfunk as White Bully and he is also currently releasing music with US producer Butch Vig in the band 5 Billion in Diamonds, whilst working on new tracks with Mark Stewart (The Pop Group) including remixes by Adrian Sherwood. His signature sound can also be heard on this remix for Elizabeth Fraser -

Creating a balance between the strength of bravado and the vulnerability of being intimate. A new journey awaits in "BRAVADO+INTiMO" or (B.i.) by .idk. (Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge). The name itself mirrors the enigmatic creator's duality. This musical journey is less of a narrative in words and more of an exploration of essence and melodic resonance. Through a fusion of soul, jazz, and hip hop, with a futuristic touch courtesy of the electronic leaning sequencer, .idk. crafts a sonic landscape that defies convention. “My goal with this album was to simplify everything.” With a concise 32-minute runtime and a focus on conceptual clarity, "BRAVADO+INTiMO" emerges as one of .idk.’s most accessible and cohesive projects to date. “With B.i., I just wanted to sing over beats that artists like MF DOOM would normally rap over and only rap when it felt the most natural” Drawing inspiration from his collaborations with MF DOOM, .idk. effortlessly transitions between singing and rapping, creating a seamless experience that captivates from start to finish. .idk.’s efforts provide rapping, singing, production, and even creative direction for a very specific language in a world that he governs quite well. BRAVADO+INTiMO (B.i.) provides a new palette for the future of melodic rap while capturing the essence of hip hop’s foundation.

05:21 are Koba Kane and T1 Vega. The group, managed by UK rap veteran and all round nice guy, Blade, have been putting together tracks and videos for a while with their eyes most definitely on the prize. They're extremely versatile and are bringing something new to the UK scene in a style that I can only describe as 'grime not grime' together with an energy unlike most other artists of their age. A competition was run online by Blade to showcase the group's versatility. Submit your beats and the group will record a track using your music. The competition was won by a producer named Sinikal and, true to their word, the group quickly put some lyrics together and recorded this track. This track doesn't lay out the group's intended path and is a complete one-off in terms of style and may be the group's only ever vinyl release so grab it while you can. You can also check out the official promotional video for it on the group's YouTube channel plus follow them on all the usual social media platforms.

New Jersey verbindet.
Yachty zusammen.

RAP OR GO TO THE LEAGUE is 2 Chainz’ first new studio album since Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, his RIAA platinum #1 release of 2017. That LP has netted over 2 billion streams after spinning off three consecutive RIAA multi-platinum hits: "4 AM" featuring Travis Scott; “It’s A Vibe” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz and Jhené Aiko; and “Good Drank” featuring Quavo and Gucci Mane. RAP OR GO TO THE LEAGUE, Chainz’ most personal, most lyrical, most soulful long player to date, challenges the notion that the only way out of the inner city is either to become a rapper or a ball player. The new album flips that trope on its head, celebrating themes of black excellence, the power of education, and entrepreneurship. (In fact, 2 Chainz has done it all, earning a full ride to college for basketball, grad¬uating at the top of his class, and becom¬ing a successful rapper and businessman.) Rap Or Go To The League features Young Thug, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Ty Dolla Sign, Kodak Black, Chance The Rapper, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne. Released on 2 x heavyweight yellow vinyl, wide-spined outer sleeve, white inner bags

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of 21 Savage & Metro Boomin’s Savage Mode! Including “No Heart,” “X” (featuring Future), “Savage Mode,” and “Ocean Drive”.

The '2Kings EP' is the debut release from Ash and Jay Shah, two brothers based in London. The record has come out on their newly formed '506' label via Kudos Records. Having produced for various MC's and vocalists in the past, this is the first time the brothers have teamed up to release something under their own '2Kings' alias.

Drawing on influences from the styles of producers such as Madlib, J Dilla and The Alchemist, the record blends obscure soul and jazz infused samples with incisive vocals to take the listener on an introspective journey across 6 tracks.

”Papered Up” and "Dark Corners" shows the pair team up with Detroit legend Guilty Simpson and LA wordsmith Blu over two soul-smoked instrumentals, with both MCs lacing up to provide hard-hitting verses. Guilty's gritty personal narrative of the daily struggles of living in the D is wonderfully counterbalanced by the spaced out, string-lead production; whilst Blu takes a more positive approach, his intricate west-coast flow interrupted only by the pitched-up vocal hook of the sample.

"Last Time", perhaps the standout song on the EP, is a rich, experimental piece of neo-soul embellished by gorgeous guitar riffs from Oscar Jerome (who has released on both Universal Records and Giles Peterson's Brownswood Records) and the velvet smooth tones of rising vocalist Douniah (signed to german based hip hop label Melting Pot Music).

Since the digital release, the EP has received widespread acclaim, with support from Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan, Giles Peterson and Alexander Nut, to name a few. The brothers have been repeatedly championed by Jamie Groovement / Agent J (head music editor of Bonafide Magazine) having recently appeared on his Groovement Show on Reform Radio, and "Last Time" was also featured on Spotify's 'Fresh Finds' and 'Fresh Finds: The Wave' playlists.

The '2Kings EP' is definitely one to watch out for.

Thug Life: Volume 1 is the only studio album by hip hop group Thug Life, started by rapper Tupac Shakur, it was released on September 26, 1994 by Interscope Records. The group featured Big Syke, Macadoshis, Mopreme, The Rated R and Tupac Shakur. Among the notable tracks on the album are “Bury Me a G”, “Cradle to the Grave”, “Pour Out a Little Liquor” (which also appears on the soundtrack to the 1994 film Above the Rim), “How Long Will They Mourn Me?” and “Str8 Ballin'”. The album was originally released by Shakur’s label Out Da Gutta Records. Due to heavy criticism on gangsta rap at the time, the original version of the album was scrapped and re-recorded with many of the original songs being cut. The album only contains ten tracks because Interscope Records felt many of the other recorded songs were too controversial to release. It has been said that 2Pac created two other versions of this album, with many of the songs still remaining unreleased. Urban Legends/UMC will reissue Thug Life: Volume 1 in 1LP 180 Gram black vinyl on 22nd November, 2019.

PRESSED ON MAROON-COLORED VINYL

The third instalment of “Speshal Blends” instrumental series includes
ten sought-after beats culled from Spesh’s own 6 Shots: Overkill EP,
Che Noir’s Juno album, 1000Words’ compilation, and the Army of
Trust II compilation. This collection further proves that on top of
being one of the nicest emcees on the mic, Spesh is also one of the
illest producers in the game. The cover continues the series’ trend of
tributing the cigar brands most popular for rolling blunts. This time
around Dutch Masters’ packaging gets flipped.

38 Spesh has quietly become tastemakers’ top pick for “next to blow.” Just ask LeBron James, Kevin Durrant, DJ Premier, Sway, Method Man, or Lloyd Banks, all of which have co-signed this Upstate New York emcee. His 7 Shots EP, the third and final instalment in his fan-favorite “Shots Series,” marked the moment that many caught on to the TRUST movement. The 8 track offering gives underground Hip-Hop fans exactly what they want, hard bars over soulful beats. The project features guest verses from Freeway, Ransom, Eto, and Che Noir, as well as production from Streetrunner, The Heatmakerz, LT Beats, Thanos Beats, and more. Mixed and mastered by Chris Pinset Cover by Laz Art Direction by Jordan Commandeur A&R by Ransom

[h] B4. Last Gasp (feat. Ransom & Tearz) [7 Shots Version] (prod. by Mayor, Ty Jamz & Bernard B. Westwood)

TCF Music Group founder and Rochester's own 38 Spesh is back with his brand new offering, 'Gunsmoke', featuring 9 bangers with guest appearances by the late great Fred The Godson (RIP), Ransom, Flee Lord, Che Noir and Klass Murda, as well as productions by Harry Fraud, Rain 910, Tricky Trippz and 38 Spesh himself, all topped up with outstanding artwork by Laz.

Upstate NY heavyweights 38 Spesh and Conway The Machine have joined forces for a collaboration album fans did not see coming. Having recorded with each other for well over a decade, these two lyrical powerhouses' styles mesh effortlessly on this 10-track offering. The soundbeds for the illustrious affair are provided by Spesh himself with the help of a producer he has championed for years, Jimmy Dukes. Instead of continuing to mine the '90s like their contemporaries, the duo bring a sound that calls back to early '00s Hip-Hop. On top of verses that will etch themselves in your mind courtesy of Spesh and Conway, the project includes standout bars and hooks by the likes Lloyd Banks, Pharoahe Monch, Benny The Butcher, Che Noir, ElCamino, and Emanny.

Europa is the new EP from Diplo, the internationally acclaimed club, pop and hip-hop innovator who’s constantly driven by a hunger for the unknown. “I’ve always been fascinated by creating something brand new: a new type of party, a new rhythm, introducing people to new things, catching a new vibe,” says the Grammy winner, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz. “My mission from day one has been, how can I be different from all those other guys? “

„Since I Have A Lover” erscheint auf Vinyl!

Since I Have A Lover“. Auf diesem Projekt befasst sich 6lack mit Themen wie Liebe und persönlichem Wachstum. Es ist eine Antwort auf die toxischen Erzählungen, die in letzter Zeit in der Musik und Kultur zentrales Thema waren. Das Album wird ab dem 23.06 dann auch auf Vinyl erhältlich sein.

Nach einer Phase der Reflektion und Transformation kehrt 6LACK mit einem kraftvollen neuen Album
zurück: „Love is the New Gangsta“ markiert den Beginn seiner bislang persönlichsten Ära.

DITC’s legendary producer Buckwild is back with his second producer album of 2020, aptly titled “Music Is My Religion”. His devotion to the craft has made history and continues to do so, with the Bronx’s producer collaborating with more and more interesting new names in today’s game. On this new offering he has gathered guest appearances by Fred The Godson (RIP), Willie The Kid, Planet Asia, Milano Constantine, Has Kingpin, Flee Lord Daniel Son, Rim of Da Villins and Jay Royale among others.

81355 (pronounced `bless') is a meeting of the minds between three pillars of the Indianapolis music scene; Sirius Blvck, Oreo Jones, and Sedcairn Archives. While the three have worked together in the past, this is their first start-to-finish collaboration, and the result is the stunning and distinctive debut Time I'll Be of Use. Simultaneously mystical and stark, somber and danceable, the project grapples with hard-wired truths and imagines alternate realities with better futures. These lucid wanderings amongst the street fires sound like a cross between the ghost of progressive electronic music of the 70s with its innovative eccentricities, and acrobatic wordplay delivered with sharp resolve. While surrealist in its metaphors and abstraction, it doesn't betray a present awareness. Reflecting on Black struggle in the pandemicridden and democracy faltering landscape of 2020, each member arrived from a synchronistic space, and the recording process ended up being largely intuitive. On "Capstone," the opening track on the album, Sirius Blvck offers a look from inside his space, "This is what we've come to. Generational curses I still can't undo. Just taught my lil girl to tie her shoes now she running to. Holy smokes lungs made of leather like it's comfortable. Climbing up this infinite ladder to get a better view." These three musical vagabonds have met up to find even themselves surprised with the results. Drawing inspiration from the likes of biting poetic commentary of the late Naptown residents, Etheridge Knight and Kurt Vonnegut, OJ summons a golden-era flow and paints a picture of the group's influences, surroundings, and trajectory in one fell swoop in "Thumbs Up." "Alright, in my feelings tonight, Honda Civic overturned as it burns through the night. Bone Thugs in these streets no Surender in sight. I'm writing poems from a jail cell, Etheridge Knight. I throw a fit when I flip it, it's all vintage. A pearl white Bronco like OJ you done did it. The sunshine shatters the rock painted so vivid. Two-hundred fifty pounds of gifted we so lifted_ wassup?" Sirius, with poetry present even in his speaking voice, adds, "It's a way to carve our story in the sky before we're gone. This is us choosing to believe that this time, things will be different. It is an affirmation to the universe. This time I'll see the whole blessing. This time I'll be of use."

Finally back on vinyl, this 2011 release was the first proper full-length showcase for the Grammy Award-winning superproducer. The signature soulful style of 9th’s beats was a sensation in hip hop and R&B--for underground fans and in the mainstream--and he played a leading role in bringing North Carolina to the forefront of American music culture in the 21st century.
